Dual Fates
Chapter 6: Tears of pain...
"Hm, from scanning the device, that young girl wasn't kidding about it manipulating the vibrations and being able to direct them..." the same male's slightly mechanic voice resonated through the air and the screen flashed before his silhouette, showing the scanned rod's contents. Countless numbers in one corner scrolled up slowly while highly sophisticated sentences did the same on the left side of the screen and kept showing many different angles of the staff. It was 3D and moved around on its own, zooming in or out of specific spots on the rod.
"She wants her to use it at the festival, huh? I'll be more than happy to test it out, I'm just surprised that implementing codes into one part of her brain was successful... Now, let's see how she wields it," the dark man's figure shifted in his stance with a simple fold of his arms and thin cords could be seen dangling from the sides, appearing to be hooked to his head.
At some point during the day, everyone took part in the heroic class with Mr. Aizawa, they all stood outside and watched as the dark-haired sensei explained things to them. However, Uviel's eyes locked onto her best friend who...stood at the far end of the lined-up students. Her blue hues grew worried at the obvious distancing she gave her and her upper-black lips curled into a frown, it was beginning to upset her.
They did some training, which was the usual, and Uviel passed specific physical tests to see what her limits were. The redhead wasn't real big on the idea of running around and she nearly passed the speed test, she was just thankful that a lot of her cybernetic parts had increased strength so lifting heavier objects that normal girls couldn't was relieving.
As mentioned, the speed test was almost a failure and barely passed. Although with Haru, a lot of the students, including herself, were amazed at the sight of her. She passed the speed test rather easily and managed to pass the strength test, however, it wasn't the best results compared to most but her speed was impressive for her age.
Now that everyone received their results on paper and continued on with their day, the poor, concerned girl never ran into her best friend nor had she ever appeared around her very often... Time to head home, Uviel made her way to the front of the school and collected her things, all the while exchanging her school shoes out with her own. "Haru..." her whispered words escaped frowning lips as she securely carried her rod and rocket boots in her arms, along with her school bag.
"I wonder...if she'll come and get her stuff..." mumbling, the redhead simply slid her backside against her locker and pressed her knees against her chest, arms wrapping around them in the process. Those red bangs hid the side of her face more when she laid her mouth within her forearms, swirling worry continued to engulf her eyes from the thought of her distancing friend. "Was it...something I did...?" adding to her muffled words, she sat there waiting for a good ten minutes until it was believed that Yukimura wasn't going to show.
Depressed, the girl stood and made her way toward the exit, keeping those boots in her armpits, the staff over one shoulder, and her bag in the other hand. Rain began to pour not long after she stepped out from the double doors and when she neared the gate, there she saw...her best friend.
The brunette's back was pressed against the inside of the gate's frame and her head was lowered, she could tell that water drenched her uniform since everything about her looked wet. A shadow masked her face and nothing could be seen other than the fact that she was sulking, therefore Uviel sprinted over with sheer worry in her eyes.
Faint heavy breaths and water splashing against her shoes, the cybernetic girl caught up to the brunette who hadn't even stirred from her sudden approach. "Har-Har, there you are!" Through slight panting, Uviel waited for some sort of response and stood there in the soft rain allowing everything to get drenched.
Nothing...but pure silence and the light pats of droplets from the sky danced in the air. All was quiet for maybe five minutes with them staying in their position until...Yukimura broke down. Quickly, Har-Har whirled to the side and hugged her best friend, crying hard into her neck. She was shaking, her fingers dug fairly deep into the girl's clothes as she screamed and her own school bag fell off her shoulder.
Blue eyes widened at the sudden hug and cries, then not long after did she comfortingly wrap her arms around Haru's frame, listening to the pained cries of her friend. "What's wrong...Haru...? You're usually never like this," knitted brows and emotion stirred in her eyes at the mention of her strange behavior.
As if on cue, Yukimura started to explain her situation during that moment with Hatsume and it shocked the girl. "I don't know what made me do it! As soon as I saw you start to cry, something inside me took over! I don't know what happened to me! -hic- I -hic- just got very protective -hic- of you! She hurt you, she hurt my best friend and all I could hear were whispers in my head saying...that I should kill her!" through a cracking voice and between hicks of her cries, her fingers tightened on the redhead's frame.
Over her shoulder, heavy tears streamed down her cheek and stained the girl's uniform. Those blind hues watered down with pained emotions and the need for mental comfort, could be seen past her brown bangs. "It's okay, Har-Har. You were just looking out for me, don't be so hard on yourself... Besides, you can always apologize to Hatsume tomorrow I'm sure she'll forgive you. Just, don't listen to those dark thoughts and fight it the best you can, I'm sure that's just you being super protective and stuff," the redhead reassured and rubbed her friend's back, trying to ease the sobbing on her shoulder.
"But what if it happens again?! What if it's not just me being really protective, what if it's-!" before the brunette could continue, Uviel pulled her off of her shoulder and stared strictly at her face.
"Don't worry yourself too much! The more you think about it, the more it's going to bug you!" Even though Haru couldn't physically see, she could still tell that her friend was being serious just by the sound of her voice and the firm hold on her shoulders.
A simple nod was all she received and the redhead's lips curled into a grin at the response, relieved. "Come on, I'll take you home okay?" Uviel knew that she needed the company, so she sauntered on home in comforting silence with an occasional, short conversation.
It took them perhaps, twenty minutes or so to get her home and the girl stood in the pathway to the front door, watching Haru wave her way with an appreciative smile. Uviel returned the gesture as she too grinned and watched the brunette enter the house with a simple twist of a key. A sigh left through her nose seconds after the door shut and her smile dropped, there was still some concern for her best friend.
When she turned to leave the pathway, which led to the door, a muffled scream made her halt in her step. Blue hues widening and her head swiftly twisting around back to the door, her feet rushed up to it. "Haru?!" Right on time, the door slammed open and a tall man in a black business suit charged out of the house with his suitcase in one hand.
One glance, was all it took, for her eyes to pick up ominous vibes from the man when his black ones met hers. A passing glance between the two, he hurried around the corner and left the front door wide open. "HARU!" the girl dropped her stuff and ran inside, those blue hues aimlessly searching through the barely-lit hallway that led to the kitchen.
However, in the middle of the hall, her ears picked up on muffled screams and cries. When she looked down she saw her best friend laying on the floor with... "OH MY- HARU!" a very badly, busted and bruised ankle. On her were small cuts and her fist was tightly clenched from the pain, not once did her head rise to Uviel.
With her cybernetic strength, she picked her friend up from beneath her armpits and pulled her out of the house. Grunting, dragging, and hearing Har-Har cry out from pain during the entire process didn't help her own need to cry. Tears started to brim at the edges of her eyes and once she got out of the door, very carefully did she move the brunette's feet. "HEEELP!" yelled the redhead and panted, she didn't want to carry her over her shoulders because her feet would drag across the pavement.
No matter which way she tried to hold her, her feet would either get dragged or held onto if they were put under her armpits. Haru whimpered and continued to clench her fingers tightly, as she laid there unable to move from the sheer pain that rode up her leg. Now that she was in better lighting, Uviel noticed more bruises and other spots on her skin... It was no wonder Har-Har wasn't moving, she couldn't even if she tried. Very pissed the cybernetic girl was and sat down on her knees, contemplating.
Lifting her hands, her blue hues gazed upon their slightly shaky state until they clenched closed. Determined to get her some help, the redhead decided to try and carry her like a Princess, albeit struggling to do so but did nonetheless and carefully made her way down the sidewalk. "Come...on Har-Har, you're gonna be fine," Even though she was lazy and hated putting forth much effort to do anything, those feelings get pushed aside when her best friend's in danger. "You know... Whoever that guy was, he's going to hell..." mumbling, Uviel sauntered down the path the best she could without dropping her.
Though, she wasn't expecting a boy with indigo hair casually walking in their direction. Shocked to see a student near their homes, her eyes narrowed and her feet sprinted the best she could to reach him.
The boy simply narrowed his own at the sight of the two and stopped in his steps when the redhead bolted for him, however, what she said surprised him. "You! Help her, please! I don't know if I can carry her all the way back to U.A or the hospital myself!" A look of determination was evident when she exclaimed and almost toppled to her side.
This time, after understanding the situation, he trotted up to them and didn't hesitate to get Har-Har out of her arms. "What happened...?" his question made a decently long pause occur and chose to turn the other direction, probably heading towards the hospital.
"I don't know, all I heard was a scream from the inside of her house and a slightly snake-faced looking man in a black business suit ran out... I ran in and I did everything I could to get her out," It wasn't too hard for her to carry the brunette despite the few inches difference, she thanked the heavens above for her cybernetics and the strength they gave.
"Alright then, let's head over to the hospital," answering Uviel simply, he picked up his walking pace and those purple eyes glanced down at the whimpering brunette in his arms. Questions began to pile up in his mind as they all raced to their best ability without hurting her, to the hospital.
Moments later, maybe an hour or so, Haru's blind hues opened groggily to a white ceiling. Her senses picked up on the scent of cleanliness, chemicals in the air, the sounds of beeping around her, and voices that conversed about her condition. Her hair was out of its ponytail and beautifully framed her; her fingers lightly touched the fabric on her person to understand what she was wearing. After picking up on everything, a sigh escaped her lips once she learned that she woke up in a hospital.
"Yeah," Uviel's voice echoed behind a curtain that only showed her shadowed figure and another boy's figure behind her, talking with a nurse.
"Make sure she stays with you for a while until she's recovered... You said her parents were on a business trip for a couple of weeks, right?" the nurse's figure was seen moving her arm to write something on a clipboard.
"Yup and I'll make sure she doesn't do much until then," The cybernetic girl's voice, who obviously lied, made the nurse's shaded head nod then watched her leave until it was her and the indigo-haired boy.
Sliding the curtain open, Har-Har didn't even stir in her spot, if anything depression was evident on her face and her lips were in a line. "Haru..." no, she refused to respond. There was something she hadn't told her best friend despite the many years they've been together and was afraid of worrying her more than she already was. "Haru, answer me!" Upon feeling the redhead's hands slam on her bedside, those green hues widened and a gasp left her.
"Shinso, right?" Uviel questioned when she peeked over her shoulder and blinked. Watching him nod his head and stuff his hands into his pockets, her upper-black lips curled into a frown. "Could you...please excuse us? I'll call you back in after we're done," hopefully he would agree and she looked almost pleading at the request.
"Sure..." With a rub on the back of his neck, his eyes lingered on Haru's form that was hooked up to an IV and a heart monitor. Now that he left, Uviel's gaze reunited with blind ones and she quickly sat down on a chair after pulling one over.
"Haru...you can talk to me... We've been friends for a long time," Her voice was wavered, pleading for her best friend to answer her and to ease her concerns at least a little bit.
"Okay, fine..." Har-Har began and closed her eyes, with a gentle press of her head against the headboard of the bed. "You've always wondered why I'd never let you meet my father, right...?" her question made the redhead blink quizzically and her mouth turned agape; sensing her nod slightly, she continued. "He..." the brunette started once more but couldn't seem to find the right words to explain. "He...is a bad man. My family is...well, isn't good. They hate heroes, they have a history of villain work and my father wants me to continue their line of work too...but..." her words trailed off and those green hues closed in thought. "I don't want to, I hate my father...I hate my family line, my heritage, everything... I hate it all. I just...want to run away from it all. I want to be a hero, not be forced into being someone I'm not... I don't know why he sent me to U.A since he hates heroes, but he said that the higher-ups requested it..." Har-Har explained and sighed with a lift of her shaky hand.
From the side, her shaky hand was lightly grasped into paler ones, and her attention was brought over to Uviel who looked incredibly pissed off. "Har-Har...who's your father...? I can try and get some heroes on him for you, I'm sure they do jobs like that too," a look of determination was present on the girl's face and a soft reassuring squeeze of her hand, made her friend answer.
"No, I don't want anyone getting hurt because of me... Please, just let me stay with you for a while? I don't want to be around him..." At the last part of her sentence, her voice cracked a little and emotion made it waver. The brunette leaned into her pale hand more and silent tears strayed from her green eyes, causing a shadow to veil over the redhead's face.
"Yeah, stay with me..." That was all Uviel said and her best friend never got to see her sharp, dangerous glares staring into space. After some time had passed, Shinso was called back in and the three of them began to converse, giving each other introductions despite Uviel's reluctance to do so. It wasn't long until he had to leave, so now, only she and Haru were alone in the room now.
