"Sure, where do you need to go?" Naruto asked the cute nun.
"Oh, thank you so much! I've been wandering around all morning trying to find the church in this town," The girl said thankfully.
"U-Um Naruto? We really don't have time, school's about to start" Mio said urgently, hoping the blonde would get the message.
"School, shmuool, Who cares if we're a few minutes late" he shrugged.
'Damn it, you Baka! I'm trying to save you here!' Mio thought worryingly.
"O-Oh, I'm sorry if I've interrupted your morning," The girl said apologetically.
"Don't worry about it, my imouto is just being a bit of a worrywart" Naruto waved off the Sister's worries, while Mio's worries shifted to rage at Naruto's jab at her.
The blonde nun smiled in gratitude "I'm so glad I ran into someone so kind. This must be the lord's guidance".
...ShE REEEEEKS oF InNoCeNcE!... The Darkness growled at him.
Naruto, Ignoring the Darkness's insult, smiled at the nun. Just when he was about to show the girl the way to the church, Mio grabbed his arm, trying to pull him away from the nun.
"C-Come on Naruto! Y-you know if you're late again, sensei will have your head, h-haha" Mio said hurriedly, trying to get the two blonds away from each other.
Naruto, who didn't understand why Mio was being rather rude attitude towards the nun, pulled his arm free from her roughly "Mio, stop! If you're that worried about being late, just go on ahead" Naruto said sternly.
Mio couldn't believe that the blonde would speak that way to her, furrowing her eyebrows in anger "F-Fine! Get into trouble, see if I care!" She shouted as she stomped off angerly, away from the two.
"O-Oh dear, I'm sorry I caused you and your sister to argue," The nun said as they watched the girl leave.
"Don't worry about it, she gets like that sometimes, she'll be fine once she's cooled off," Naruto explained to the girl, she nodded slightly trusting the blonde's word.
"The church is about a 10-minute walk from here, so we'll have you there in no time at all!" Naruto grinned at the girl, to which she smiled at the strange boy.
"Here…" The sister blinked when the blonde extended his hand towards her "You've been looking for the church all morning right? Let me carry your bag for you".
"Ah, that's alright! You've already helped me so much by showing me the way to the church" The nun tried to decline.
"You're tired, you've been swapping your bag from hand to hand for the past few minutes," Naruto said as he took the girl's bag for her.
The nun blinked, she hadn't even noticed she had been doing that, she smiled at the kind boy "Thank you".
As the two walked through the park, they heard the cries of a child, they both turned to see a small boy on the ground, holding his scraped knee.
Naruto wasn't surprised when the nun ran over to the child, he'd pretty much expected her to do so.
Walking over to the two Naruto heard the Sister comforting the kid "There, there, a big boy like yourself shouldn't be crying over a scraped knee"
No, what surprised Naruto was the girl's hands, which were hovering just above the boy's wound, glowed a bright calming green light.
Naruto blinked, not believing his eyes, as he watched the child's wound fade away like it was never there.
"There you go, all better" She smiled once her work was done.
The boy looked at his knee in awe, he stretched out his leg slightly and smiled when he felt no pain "Thank you, Nee-chan!" The boy shouted as he ran back over to the playground.
Asia blinked owlishly, She turned towards the taller blonde "U-um what did he say?" She asked questioningly.
Now Naruto looked confused. "He said thank you Nee-chan, did you not hear him?" That was weird, Naruto had heard him perfectly fine.
"I don't speak Japanese, so I've been having a hard time adjusting to the language, I'm glad I met someone like you who can speak Italian," The sister said while smiling happily.
"Ah, I see".
…
…
Wait...go back.
"What do you mean 'speak Italian'? We're speaking Japanese" Naruto asked in confusion.
The nun looked at him slightly startled "N-No?…we've been speaking Italian this whole time, I was honestly surprised to hear both you and your sister speaking it so well! You both have a very good grasp of the language" she said quite happily.
So Mio had been speaking Italian too? Was this another devil power? The ability to speak foreign languages without realising?.
Meh, not the worst power to have.
"O-Oh yeah! Sorry, it's been so long since I heard someone speak Italian, I guess I didn't even notice that I was, h-haha" Naruto scratched his head nervously, silently hoping the Sister wouldn't press him.
Luckily the shorter blonde didn't seem to notice his nervousness "It's wonderful, isn't it! When two people from different lands come together under the lord's guidance" The girl smiled brightly at him.
Naruto stared at the smiling nun, slightly baffled by how...devoted she was to god.
Before his devil life, Naruto was an atheist, he didn't believe in God, to be completely honest, he hadn't given any thought to the almighty at all during his human life.
But since he was a devil now, he guessed the thought of something like the actual almighty wasn't as ridiculous as he once thought.
Still though, even if hadn't believed, he would never ridicule someone's passionate beliefs.
"You're a really nice person, ain't ya" Naruto stated with a smile, only for an uncomfortable feeling to pass through him when he noticed the silver cross hanging around her neck, causing him to shy away while the girl looked at him in confusion.
The two continued their walk to the church, chatting as they did so.
"Y'know, you surprised me when you healed that kid, is that like a special trick you learned as a nun?" Naruto asked
"Oh no, it's a wonderful gift that I received from God," the nun said while smiling, though Naruto noticed her expression shifted from a happy smile to a more downcast expression "Yes...a wonderful gift…".
He was about to question her when the Sister suddenly spoke out "Ah! That must be it" She said happily.
Naruto followed her gaze, to see the top of the holy building that was peeking out from behind the trees in the distance, "Yep, That's the place, it's the only one in town I think".
"Thank goodness you helped me find it," The nun said in relief.
As Naruto looked towards the building, the same uncomfortable feeling came back, but ten times worse, he could feel every hair on his body stand on edge as he stared at the church, the mere sight of it caused him to break out in a cold sweat, the feeling doubled as Naruto hunched over, converting his mouth as felt sick to his stomach, it felt as if something was growing in the very pit of his stomach.
The Sister turned to him, planning on returning his kindness "Would you like to- are you alright?!" She panicked when she saw the kind boy holding his stomach in pain while covering his mouth.
She got her answer, but not the one she was hoping for.
Black, tar-like liquid splattered through the boy's hand as he coughed into it, leaking through his fingers as he tried to hold it in.
Naruto forced his body to move over to a nearby bush, burying his head into the shrubbery so the nun couldn't see him throwing up.
He heaved as the thick liquid poured out of him, like a never-ending stream that pooled onto the ground, his throat burning as the black tar forced its way out, he felt his ears start leaking the same substance as flowed down the sides of his head, his eyes bulge out from pressure as the same black liquid poured from behind them, he felt his air supply cut off when he felt the tar-like liquid pour out of his nose
...ThAt'S iT,...LeT iT cOmE,...nO nEeD tO fIgHt, NaRuTo… The Darkness whispered, sounding as though it was pleased about what was happening to him.
His head felt like it was about to explode, the amount of pressure building in his skull was too much, like a balloon that was about to burst.
The pain was incredible, he felt a burning sensation so strong it was as if his very flesh and blood were on fire, the lungs themselves felt like they were melting away into nothing. Naruto's bones were freezing, his legs and arms still shivering. Naruto reflexively struggled against the pain, despite the Darknesses words, he could feel the growing pressure building in his throat as the tar-like substance thickened.
'I'm dying! I can't breathe! For the love of God, Help me! Please!' Even the pain of taking the lord's name in vain didn't even come close to the agony he felt at the moment.
The Darkness refused to answer him, too busy relishing in its host's agony.
'Please! Please just make it-...stop?'
A warm, pleasant feeling spread across his back, the pain fading away quietly, The pouring black vomit slowed greatly like it was finally coming to an end, every single inch of Naruto's body tingled in pleasure from the warm feeling.
He coughed, the last remnants of the liquid forced from his throat, fresh oxygen filling his deprived lungs as he gasped the air in, he felt a small hand lay on his back, rubbing him gently.
"Are you alright?" He heard the nun ask him.
Barely managing a nod "J-cough! J-Just give me a m-minute" he said in a hoarse voice while wiping his mouth.
...HmhMHmHm...SoOoOn… the Darkness whispered gleefully to him.
After taking a few deep breaths, Naruto raised his head, letting his face bathe in the shining sunlight, as the remnants of the black liquid dissipated in dark smoke.
Naruto shakenly turned towards the nun, stumbling slightly as she helped steady him, "S-Sorry" he mumbled.
The smaller blonde shook her head furiously, "Don't apologise, I'm just thankful that I was able to help you".
Naruto looked at her questioningly, before remembering what she did for the young boy "That feeling, that was you?".
She nodded with a slight smile while poking her fingers together nervously, "Mm-hmm, My gift doesn't work on illnesses, only physical wounds, but I thought it might be able to ease any pain you were feeling".
Naruto clasped his hands with her, "Thanks, you really saved my ass" he said sincerely with a bright smile, while the young blonde was a little taken back by the gratitude in his bright blue eyes.
"Y-You're welcome," She said with a bashful look while staring at the ground.
Letting her hands go, Naruto grabbed the girl's luggage and said "Come one, it's not far now".
The Sister blinked before nodding at him, as the two left towards the church, a small white puppy, that had a red dog lead trailing behind it, attached at its collar, approached the very bush that Naruto had barfed in, the cute dog raised its hind leg to mark its territory.
A thin, long leathery black tentacle shot out from the shadows, wrapping around the middle of the puppy, the poor creature didn't even have a chance to bark out it in fright before being dragged into the shadows.
From the outside of the stilled bush, the whimpering puppy's fear-filled whines could be heard, softly begging for help.
The whole bush started shaking violently, the leaves rustling as the dog's whines shifted to aggressive growling and barking, for a solid 5 seconds this continued before the puppy released a heartbreaking cry and the audible sound of something snapping happened at the same time.
No movement came from the bush, even with the slight blowing of the wind, hardly disturbed it as a nameless woman neared it, she looked around the wide-area "Riku?! Here boy!...come to mama!" The woman called out worryingly, as she walked away, continuing to call for her dog.
Had she stayed for a just moment longer, she would have seen the blood pooling towards the pavement from the bush.
Back with two blondes, they were just about to enter the grounds of the church, the Sister turned toward him with a smile on her face.
"Thank you so much for helping me today! Would you like to come inside for some tea?" She asked with a hopeful smile.
Naruto was about to accept the nun's requests when he felt himself becoming uncomfortable from the proximity of the church like his devil senses were warning him to stay away.
...Go No FuRtHeR, nArUtO… the Darkness whispered in a serious tone, Naruto decided to listen to both his and the Darknesses warnings.
"I-I would love to, but I've really gotta run or I'm gonna be late," He said in half-truth.
The Sister seemed saddened that he declined her invitation, but soon smiled "I see...then if you have any spare time, would you come to visit me at the church? It's been such a blessing to meet someone as nice and kind as you are, so soon after arriving in Japan".
Naruto blinked at her request before nodding with a happy grin"Sure! We can even hang out around town if you like" he said while giving her a thumbs up.
The Sister's smile widened considerably as she clasped her hand together in excitement "That would be wonderful! It's a promise then!" She said happily to him.
"My name is Asia Argento, but please call me Asia," She said as she introduced herself to him.
"I'm Naruto, Uzumaki Naruto, in Japan we say our last name first".
"Naruto-san" Asia tested saying his name while trying out the Japanese formality.
"You don't need to use 'san' with me, Asia, we're friends now, right?" Asia's eyes widened when she heard what the blonde had called her.
"H-Hai!" The happiness in her voice was easy to detect.
Placing her luggage down in front of her Naruto started walking backs, away from her "I gotta run, see ya later!" He shouted while waving.
Asia smiled as she waved back at him, "Until next time!".
As Naruto started jogging away, he looked over his shoulder to see Asia still waving at him 'What a nice girl' .
Scene Change
Naruto's Classroom
"Now if you can all turn to page-"
Knock Knock
"Hai?" The teacher called out, as the door opened to reveal a sweaty Naruto, who was breathing heavily, as he slumped into the classroom "Well, look who finally decided to join us" His sensei said as he crossed his arms accusingly.
"S-Sorry sensei," Naruto said breathlessly, trying to catch his breath, "I got held up, there was this tourist nun who got lost, and I helped her find her way".
Ok, even he knew that sounded like a lie, even if it was the truth.
The teacher shook his head tiredly "Come on Uzumaki, do you really expect me to believe-"
"Sensei" The two turned to Nonaka, who had her hand raised as she stared blankly at the two, "Uzumaki-san is telling the truth".
"Nonaka?" The teacher looked at her in surprise.
"I saw Uzumaki-san this morning in the park on my way to school, and he was walking with a nun holding a suitcase".
Naruto blinked in surprise, he hadn't expected his classmate to come to his aid, honestly, he was totally prepared to get detention for his tardiness.
Their sensei sighed tiredly, "Honestly, if it was anyone, I would've called them a liar, but since it's you, Nonaka, it must be true. Go and take your seat Uzumaki" he said as he pointed towards the desk.
Naruto hurriedly took his seat, but not before sending the light blue-haired a grateful look, to which she spared him a nod".
"Now then, will everyone turn to page 394" The teacher requested as turned back to face the board.
"Ok so on this page we can see the word- what is it, Uzumaki?"
"I-umm I don't have that textbook…" Naruto scratched his head nervously with the hand that he had raised, as his sensei's eyebrow twitched violently.
"Haaa… alright, Nonaka share with him" The girl nodded at his order, the girl moved her seat to the right side of his desk, splitting the book between them.
"Alright! So we can see that the word in English means-... Uzumaki, I swear to god…" the teacher trailed off.
"W-Which page...?" His sensei stared at him for a moment, unblinkingly.
He walked over to Naruto's shared desk, his hands gripping the sides of the desk tightly as he loomed over Naruto, eyes filled with nothing other than silent annoyance.
"Page 394" the sensei dragged each number out, pronouncing his words slowly.
Nodding hesitantly nodded his head and quickly turned to the correct page, the teacher nodded in satisfaction.
Moving back to the front of the class, happy that the class can continue "Right! So we can see the word in English means-"
The teacher was cut off once again as the school's chiming bell, indicating recess for the students.
Said students quickly grabbed their belongings and left the classroom in haste, leaving their sensei standing there, blankly, completely alone, holding a textbook.
"I hate my job".
Scene change
Club Room
"You will not go anywhere near the church again".
Naruto could only gulp at the stern look he was receiving from not his master, but also from his self proclaimed little sister.
They were both standing side by side with their arms folded, in front of Rias's desk.
"To Devils like us, the Church is considered enemy territory," Rias continued."If someone like you or I were to step into the Church, it would create a major incident that could cause the small moment of relative peace between Angels and Devils to become strained. It's also a good way to get a light spear to the heart.".
Even though he was on the receiving end of her harsh lecture, Naruto couldn't help the warm feeling that spread in his chest from the tone of worry that was laced in her voice.
"Don't you think you're overreacting just a little? I mean you just said as long as I didn't go inside or do anything, then no problem, right? " Naruto asked.
Don't get him wrong, he knew from Rias's explanation about the factions that the current peace treaty was hanging by a thread, but it's not like he did anything wrong, if anything he did something good by helping a nun!
"Overreacting?...you think she's overreacting?!" Mio's temper finally burst forward, she stomped towards him "Do you even realise how much danger you were in?! Just stepping a foot inside that church would've signed your death and caused another war! Millions if not billions of lives would be lost if that happened, and all of that blood would be on your hands!"
Naruto felt the Darkness's vicious chuckle echo throughout his being, ...HaAhAaHaA...SiGnEd YoU'rE dEaTh?...LeT tHeM tRy...LeTs dO tHe WaR tHiNg ThOuGh...It SoUnDs FuN…
'Now's not the time buddy!' Naruto cried internally from the verbal lashings, he hadn't thought of the possibility that his act of kindness could have led to war.
Rias placed a calming hand on Mio's shoulder, the girl huffed at the taller blonde before moving back behind Rias.
"And don't go near anyone who has any relationship with the Church. Especially the exorcists. They are some of the worst enemies our kind has. They have been blessed by God, so they have enough power to destroy a Devil, especially a lower class one like you are right now. If a Devil were to be hit by their divine powers, they would be completely annihilated, with no hope of ever being reincarnated."
Hearing this, Naruto instantly objected "What? No way! I made a promise to Asia that we would hang out!".
Rias's eyes narrowed dangerously "Naruto, I'm ordering you to stay away from the nun, I am your master and you will obey my orders".
...ExCuSe Me?... the Darkness growled out, its anger spreading into Naruto's own.
The two redheads were surprised when the lighting started flicking, from the flickering candles to the dimming of the lamps.
Naruto was angry…, no, anger wasn't even the word for the burning rage that flowed through his veins. This girl, this pompous rich girl thought she could dictate his life? Pick who he can be friends with?
"You don't get to decide who my friends are," Naruto challenged as he stepped up to her, his taller form towering over her's, Rias's eyes widened slightly at his defiance, but she didn't back off, in fact, she stepped up to his challenge.
"You are my servant, Naruto," Rias told him as her eyes narrowed with a faint red glow, the air around her becoming heavy from the presence of her superiority.
"I'm not your slave, Rias" an eerie faint orange glow shined from under his own narrowed eyes.
Mio looked between the two, worried that the situation might be escalating too heatedly, quickly putting herself between the two, trying to stop them by pushing them apart "Guys, Stop! You two are friends for Maou-sakes!" Naruto and Rias both lost their challenging looks as they stared at the pleading eyes of the young devil hybrid.
Naruto was the first to cave, "Sorry" he mumbled out to his adoptive sister.
"I apologise Mio-chan, I didn't mean to cause you any distress" Rias smiled apologetically, before turning her attention back to Naruto "But I stand by my words Naruto, Stay away from the nun".
Naruto gritted his teeth in anger "Whatever" he said as he stormed off.
At that moment Issei entered the room "Hey guys! What the plan for tonigh- what the hell man?!" Naruto shoved past the pervy teen as he left the room.
Rias held her head as she sighed "Honestly, that boy".
Issei rubbed his arm as he walked over to the two redheads "What's up his ass?".
Rias shook her head as she waved him off "Nothing to worry about, get ready, Akeno has a request for us" Issei nodded and moved to the sofa.
"Mio-chan, come with me" Mio followed the elder heiress out to the hallway.
"Senpai?".
Rias turned to face her Kohai "I need you to do me a favour".
Scene change
Tennis courts
"Who the fuck does she think she is!?"
After he left the club room, Naruto had spent the last few minutes raging at Rias's words, as he wandered around with no destination in mind, coming to a stop at the wired fence of the tennis court, he slumped down against them.
...WhY aRe YoU sTiLl HeRe?...WiTh ThEm?...ThEy ArE nOtHiNg… Naruto heard the Darkness whisper to him, questioning him.
"I-I don't know, I feel like I owe them, that I owe her" He admitted.
...OwE hEr?...
"She did save my life, ya know". Naruto didn't like the vicious chuckle that escapes the entity.
...ShE sAvEd YoU?,...ShE eNsLaVeD yOu, NaRuTo...ShE tOoK wHaT wAsN't HeR's…
"She hasn't taken anything from me? Well apart from my humanity" Naruto scratched the back of his as he spoke to his...power?
...NoO,...ShE ToOk YoU...sToLe YoU...fRoM mE… The Darkness growled out in spite.
Naruto couldn't help but shiver from the possessive tone "What are you talking about? I'm not an object or some possession to have, I don't belong to Rias and I especially don't belong to you" he growled.
The Darknesses giggled insanely at his words ...No NaRuTo,... YoU aRe MiNe,... YoU ArE nOtHiNg BuT mY pUpPeT…
"The hell I am!" Naruto denied it with rage.
"Uzumaki-san?" Naruto jumped at the sudden voice of his classmate.
"N-Nonaka? What's up?" He asked nervously, hoping the bluette hadn't heard him talking to himself.
The yellow-eyed girl looked at him for a moment "Sensei has assigned everyone in class a study partner, you and I have been paired up together, Sensei asked me to tell you and I would like to know when you wanted to start studying" Nonaka said.
Naruto blinked "O-Oh right, I'm busy most of the time after school, but maybe during lunch?" He asked.
Nonaka nodded "Alright, I'll see you tomorrow then Uzumaki-san," she said as she turned to leave.
"You can just call me Naruto, Nonaka, I'm not one for formalities," he said with a friendly grin.
Nonaka stared at him from the corner of her eye, nodding slightly "...Yuki, Naruto-san… my name is Yuki" She said as she walked away.
Naruto smiled slightly as Yuki faded from his view, he stayed there for a few more minutes before getting up.
Taking a moment to look at the school, Naruto moved towards the gates, intent on going home to avoid his fellow devil's, mainly one pureblood by the name of Gremory.
With his hands stuffed into his pockets, Naruto left the school's grounds, unaware of a pair of purple eyes that were watching him leave.
'Wanna get some ramen?' Naruto asked in his mind as they passed multiple pedestrians on the sidewalk, the Darkness remained silent, not willing to speak to its host.
As Naruto walked down the sidewalk for a few minutes, he heard the giggling of a group of girls, he stopped as he looked over at them with a raised eyebrow.
"O.M.G, he's so handsome!".
"Do you think he's into younger girls?".
"Go talk to him!".
"No way! You go talk to him".
Naruto rolled his bored eyes at babbling teens, he followed their gaze to where they were looking.
It took less than a nanosecond for his eyes to lock on to their target and his breath hitched, his eyes widened in absolute shock as he felt his blood run cold.
There, across the street, walking out of a convenient store, smiling at the group of girls that approached him, was…
"...Sora…".
