A few weeks passed. Touka was still unconcious and Kaneki wouldn't leave her side. There was no more venom inside her but it had affected her brain so much. According to an invastigation that Akira did, the venom contained some substance that no one had ever known about. She decided to start an invastigation on it right away and find how to cure Touka faster.
Kaneki was so worried and tired that he barely had time to be with his daughter. Yomo woke him up one afternoon while he was resting next to Touka. "Ken, you need to go home and rest there for a bit. Pick Ichika up and spend some while with her. We will stay here and take care of Touka. We will let you know if something happens."
Kaneki stood up and sighed. "You are right," he said softly, "please, take care of her."
Yomo nodded and Kaneki hold Touka's hand and kissed her forehead. He said bye to Yomo and went to pick Ichika up from school. "Daddy!" Ichika ran to him and he carried her.
"How is my princess?" he smiled.
"Well, pretty sad because I miss mommy."
Kaneki sighed, "me too. But she will recover, you'll see. Let's go buy some things."
He put her down and hold her hand. "Ichika, I was thinking to home school you."
"What?" she looked up at him, "but, why?"
"Your life can be in danger and I'm not going to keep risking you."
Ichika looked down and didn't say anything. They walked through the city, buying things they needed at home and he bought Ichika a doll.
"Daddy, I'm hungry," she said as she pulled on his shirt.
"Okay, sweetheart, let's go home so you can eat."
He was carrying two bags in each arm. He had told Ichika not to let go of his shirt for nothing. While Kaneki passed by the library to see some new books in exhibit, he didn't notice the cold breeze again. The sky got cloudy once more.
"Ichika, look, I can see new coloring books from here. I can buy you one and we can color together."
He felt it. He felt goosebumps run through all his body when he didn't hear her reply. The breeze made him look down and to see that his daughter wasn't by his side. "No."
He began to look around. "No...no...please...no! Ichika!"
He walked as his heart was about to explode. "You okay, sir?" a woman asked him.
He didn't reply, let go of the bags and began to run, looking everywhere. "Ichika!"
She was no where to be seen. He put his hands on his head. "Ichika! Don't do this to me, baby!" Tears began to roll down his face.
"Sir, what's going on?" an older man asked him.
"My daughter!" Kaneki was in panick.
"Does she have white hair and wore a black dress?"
"Yes! You saw her?" Kaneki hold the man's arms.
"Yes. I was passing by you two when I suddenly saw her walk alone around that corner." He pointed out.
"Thank you!" He ran to that direction that turned out that there was a park nearby. He saw her. He found his daughter. But she wasn't alone. Kiyomi was next to her, sitting in a bench and talking. Ichika seemed to be enjoying their conversation, laughing alot.
Kaneki felt his blood boiling. He could attack that woman right there and then if it weren't that there was so many people in the park. He slowly walked towards them, his fists made his knuckles turn white. "Daddy!" Ichika grinned. Kiyomi looked at him. Her blue eyes didn't show any threats nor madness.
"Ichika," Kaneki clenched his teeth, "come here. Now."
Ichika got off the bench and stood next to Kaneki, holding his hand.
"I never want to see you near my daughter again!" Kaneki told Kiyomi in a grave and dark tone, "if I do, I will make your life a living hell!"
"No, daddy, she is nice!" Ichika said.
Kiyomi stayed seated and had a small smile on her face. "I'm glad you are here, Kaneki, we need to talk."
"We do?"
"I know you want to know some things that I couldn't answer you in the mountains."
Kaneki sighed and let Ichika play in the sandbox next to him. He sat on the other end of the bench. He sniffed but realized that Snakes didn't have a smell like Ghouls. No wonder it was easier for them to haunt.
Kiyomi stared ahead, her hands together on her lap. Kaneki swallowed his pride and turned to face her. "Please," he said, "you have to help me. You know how to cure my wife. Please, save her."
"She got attacked like all of our preys. One of the Snakes got hungry."
"That's not true! I know it was planned. And now, neither me or you will not go anywhere until you answer me why! She got poisened!"
"I'm telling you the truth. Our venom is to kill the prey."
"She is no ordinary Ghoul or human, she is the queen of the Ghouls."
She turned to look at him. "I'm answering you that right now. We didn't plan to hurt her for a specific reason. Is just our food."
"Tell me how to save her. She has been unconcious for days even with the venom out."
"Our venom has a substance that stays in the prey's body even if the venom is out. Is something that kills no matter what."
"What? What do you mean with that?! Are you telling me that she will die?!" He turned to look at Ichika, hoping she didn't hear and then turned back at Kiyomi again. "Listen to me, if she dies, I will end you. You have no fucking idea of what I'm capable of."
Kiyomi sighed. "I'm not afraid of you, Kaneki, you also don't know what I'm capable of."
She got up and began to walk away.
"Hey!" Kaneki stood up as well, "I'm warning you!"
People in the park turned to look at him. He put his hand on his head and took Ichika's hand. As he walked home with her, he couldn't stop thinking about the whole conversation. He was confused, mad, sad and didn't know what to do. But it wasn't compared to what was going to happen next.
