Break I:
Leo
I watched as the bright cerulean light shaped into a circle. A note fell out of it. For a moment, no one moved. Finally, Piper stepped forward and picked up the note like it was a bomb. She scanned it once, then began to read.
Dear readers,
We have noticed that you have some questions, so we have decided to answer your questions through the TV screen we used beforehand.
After this, the screen will only function during breakfasts and emergencies, and sometimes show visions and images of what is being read in the book. Thank you.
The Fates.
For a little while, there was silence, as Piper's words still echoed around the room. Finally, it was Athena who spoke up.
"So," she asked, stretching out the 'o' for longer than necessary. "Who is the author?"
Instantly, the screen began to glow brighter, and the colors swirled until an image appeared on the screen.
It was the Poseidon cabin. Laying on the floor was a small boy, about twelve, with messy black hair. He was staring up at the ceiling.
Annabeth gasped. "Percy!"
Percy didn't move, and after a couple of seconds, the air seemed to shift above him. He sat up, staring at the spot, until a thick package fell from the shift and hit him in the face, sending him toppling back to the floor with a grunt.
The group laughed at that.
Groaning, he sat up, and the package fell into his lap. He eyed it warily, but opened it anyways. Inside was anote and a big metal box. He opened the box. Inside the box was a tinny little chip, the size of a fingernail.
Hello Percy Jackson,
The Fates want your stories, for some experimental purposes which might help improve the future of heroes.Attach this chip behind your head. It will record your thoughts and emotions and feelings and send them to us, so we can make a book out of them. Don't worry, the chip wont hurt, it's waterproof, fireproof, foolproof, almost-everything-else-proof and will turn invisible once you attach it. This will really help the future of heroes. So please bear to put up with our request.
Since your first quest is already done, you will have to re-think your whole quest as it was. But from this moment onwards, we will be getting a live feed of your thoughts and emotions, so we can record all your quests right when they are going on.
Thank you.
TheFates
Percy read it again, then sighed and muttered, "Fine."
He satcross legged and attached the chip to his head. It disappeared.
Look, I didn't want to be a halfblood. Percy thought.
The image swirled and changed. This time, Percy was in the same spot, but he was sixteen. He took the chip out off his head, put it in an envelope. He filled out a slip attached to the envelope, and tossed a few drachmas in a pouch on the side. It disappeared with acha-ching .
The image swirled and vanished. Athena's mouth hung open. "But... there's no way Barnacle Beard's son could re-think his whole first quest like that!"
"Well," Annabeth piped up. "Considering Sally wants to be a writer, he could have inherited the skills from her..."
Aphrodite waved it away. "Whatever. It's myturn for a question." She cleared her throat and spoke loud and clear.
"How did Percy start liking Annabeth?"
The TV screen flashed and a video started showing
A class was going on when Percy opened his notebook and
stared at the photo inside-his friend Annabeth on vacation in Washington, D.C. She was
wearing jeans and a denim jacket over her orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt. Her blond hair
was pulled back in a bandanna. She was standing in front of the Lincoln Memorial with her
arms crossed, looking extremely pleased with herself, like she'd personally designed the place.
Grover scratched his chin thoughtfully. "I think that must be his second summer after discovering that he was a half-blood..."
The scene shifted.
Annabeth was slumped against a hippocampus, asleep. Percy was sitting behind her. He tightened the golden fleece wrapped around her, and propped her up so she wouldn't fall off.
Percy leaned forward and told a sleeping Annabeth "you're a genius." Then Percy rested his head on the fleece and fell asleep. Little did he know that his compliment had made Annabeth blush.
Several people gasped. There weren't many people on the face of Earth who could make Annabeth blush.
She shifted Percy a bit so he could sleep comfortably, then went back to sleeping, this time for real.
The scene changed again.
Percy and Annabeth wereon a chariot running at high speed. They held on as the chariot crossed the finishing line. The image swirled and showed a crowd cheering for them as Annabeth leaned and planted a kiss on Percy's cheek. The crowd went nuts and Percy blushed.
"That was during the chariot races! Percy and Annabeth make an unbeatable team" Grover muttered.
The image swirled again to be replaced by a new one. Percy and Grover were sitting on the dock by the lake, dangling their feet (or in Grover's case, hooves) in the water.
Grover opened his mouth to speak, but he was cut off by Annabeth's voice, "Percy!"Obviously Grover was being a third wheel.
The two of them turned around to see Annabeth heading in their direction. She stopped within six feet of them. Grover chuckled when he saw how Percy was smiling unconsciously.
Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "Luke's off gods know where, and Clarisse is crashed out on her bunk. I need a sparring partner. You up for it?"
Percy stood up and smirked, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "You sure you're willing to lose?"
" Bring it on, Seaweed Brain."
She took off towards the training hollow, and Percy sprinted after her.
When they were gone, a Naiad burst out of the lake and rested her forearms on the dock next to Grover. She laughed. "They are crushing hard on each other and they don't even understand it."
Grover nodded in agreement.
The naiad studied the spot where Percy and Annabeth had vanished. "A son of Poseidon and a daughter of Athena?"
Grover shrugged. "It's a match made in Hades, but it seems to fit." He smiled sadly at the same spot. "Percydefinitely likes Annabeth... and Annabeth..." He sighed and continued. "I haven't seen her that carefree since Thalia died."
Annabeth flushed again., and Grover nodded in confirmation.
The naiad nodded in agreement. "All of us in the sea are praying that this will put an end to Poseidon's and Athena's feud."
Grover smiled. "Hopefully."
The image changed a final time, and it showed a gymnasium with partying middle schoolers.
Nico gasped. "That's Westover Hall!"
The image zoomed in on Thalia, Grover, Percy, and Annabeth. The only thing that could be made out was Thalia saying, "Act natural," and dragging Grover off to dance.
Percy's expression clearly said what he was thinking. When you're a demigod on a dangerous mission, what the heck is natural? He scanned the party, and his gaze froze on Annabeth.
She pulled her ski cap off, and her long blonde hair tumbled down around her shoulders. Percy's previous expression disappeared as his eyes widened and he stared at Annabeth in almostawe . It seemed he was having a hard time thinking straight atall.
The image vanished and returned to normal.
Piper didn't even hesitate. "Why didn't Percy forget Annabeth?"
This time, a message appeared on the screen. "The answer spoils too much at this time. Try again after more has been revealed."
We pursed our lips, trying to decide on any more questions. "Can we start reading now?" Annabeth asked, and Percy nodded frantically, red in face. Before anybody could reply, a voice sounded out from behind us.
"Thalia?"
