Note: Due to the consistency of ghost attacks and spotty knowledge from Redglare's library, this notebook will be dedicated to classifying ghosts or ghost-types. Unsure if this will actually result in anything, but it's worth a fucking shot, right?
Known Classifications:
Halfa's – First known classification of a spectral entity, or at least the first with an official name. Technically more slang than anything, but it's as close to an official name that I can get.
*Known Traits:
-Half-alive, half-dead.
-Switches between ghost form to human form, and vice versa.
-Has a variety of standard ghost powers that help fight other ghosts, while having a variety of human resistances. Again, vice versa.
-Can generally go under the radar and slip through any search/capture devices meant to keep/find humans/ghosts.
Unknown Traits:
Levels of power.
General power set.
Nature.
Notes:
Only two are known in existence, and not a lot of things overlap.
Age difference between the two doesn't provide a good idea what the power level could possibly be for newly formed halfa's. Do they start weak and eventually get strong? Or is there a set limit due to their human sides?
Two possible ways to be created; birth or extreme exposure to ectoplasm. Unknown if amount of ectoplasm determines how powerful they are when they form up.
Questions:
Does being a halfa provide a severe limit to their powers or raise the limit to a higher standard? Will they simply get more powerful the longer they live?
If a halfa dies, do they form a ghost? Does their ghost form slip out of their body or do they form a completely different one?
Due to rarity, can they be considered an at risk species or extinct?
What kind of history is there to halfa's in general?
The Hereafter's/The Unliving/The Undead – Probably not the official names, but again, close enough. Considered to be the "traditional" ghosts, the actual people that came back to life. Have a recorded history in the human world.
Known Traits:
Fully dead. Not alive by human standards, meaning that they run by their own rules involving "life."
Only have one known form and it usually reflects what they looked like in life. According to certain notes, they are the most closely related to humans.
Resistant to most human weapons, like all other ghosts. Extremely vulnerable to ghost weapons.
Generally considered to be the most obsessed due to this being their after lives. Has a tendency to involve unfinished business.
Unknown Traits:
There is a lot of unknown about what kind of thing causes them to form the most. Of course, it's usually negative, but is there a trend? Do people who do violently end up in the Ghost Zone more often than those that died peacefully?
What determines their initial traits when they die? That seems like a thing to consider. Could be determined by their psychology, but also by their circumstances surrounding their death.
Statistical average of people who turn into ghost each year.
Notes:
Unknown amount of them but assumed to be high. Even if not all people turn into ghosts, that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of them.
Again, power levels or differences hard to tell. Considering the chaotic nature of death, could be difficult to make a general idea.
Animals count in the equation too, which means that they also have souls. They also change in size. Unknown why this is possible.
Questions:
Can these ghosts die again? Nepeta mentioned how someone could double die, but that doesn't mean much.
Where do they go when they die? Do they pass on eventually depending on the nature of their obsession, or do they stay anyway?
How often do they eventually go insane because of their situation? The afterlife they were promised isn't what they wanted or imagined, and this has most likely led to some dissonance.
If they don't die, where do they go? Do some just fade away?
The Unborn(?) – Probably not the most appropriate name, but considering they were born dead, that leads to some strange implications. Born and raised in the Ghost Zone.
Known Traits:
Like the Undead, especially in powersets. However, they are born and raised with the Ghost Zone, meaning they have a lot more control than an Undead.
Seem to form communities more often than Undead and have a more localized culture. Some overlap with human ones, but generally follow the Aspects and other folklore.
Less obsessive, though they do have certain fixations sometimes. Possibly more generalized or obsessions are spread out to more than one topic.
Forms vary more wildly depending on what their parents are like. Considering many Unborn form from Undead unions, generally human, but with a twist.
Unknown Traits:
Unknown if they consider themselves humanoid, or simply just ghosts. Obvious cultural dissonance might mean the world to them.
Unknown what kind of "races" there are when it comes to them. Other than Undead, Unborn, and Concepts, not much is known what they consider for race.
Genetic makeup, if it actually compares to human genetics. How does it work when it comes to them?
Notes:
Unknown if they outnumber or equal Undead population wise. Assuming more would not unfounded, but that relies on every Undead forming and eventually creating children.
Also, not sure if it's completely sex. Certainly one way to do it, but implications from Nepeta implies that isn't completely required.
Need to know where bigger populations lie. Redglare's town(?) could possibly be only one of many.
Questions:
How varied are the Unborn in appearance? Assumption that the more human one looks, the more likely they are directly descended from an Undead. How many generations until they are noticeably not human?
Why don't they group up more often? Undead would understandably be more solitary, but Unborn appear to be more social.
Less likely to go obsession-crazy? Most likely, but impossible to truly test without turning people against each other.
The Concepts – A lot of stuff is unknown here. Formed out of the psychic reflection/wishes/ideas of humans. Hard to say much about them due to not exactly knowing any personally. Less rare than halfa's, but certainly up there.
Known Traits:
Commonly related to myths or various types of monsters that come from human culture. Completely possible that it's the other way around sometimes, but that could indicate a type of cycle.
A good amount of them are not exactly human shaped. Some of them possibly lack a form entirely, but that's only what the books say. Redglare's library only has a few studies.
Extremely dangerous. Can hold high amounts of power and control wide swaths of territory within the Ghost Zone. Don't ever engage without properly knowing what it is.
Very prone to disappearing, according to some books. Do certain Concepts disappear without some form of worship? Quite possible that it relies on others believing in it to survive.
Unknown Traits:
The exact life cycle of one and how long they live. This is due to lack of documentation.
A general type of powerset. Again, lack of documentation means knowing very little on what they can actually do.
Virtually anything concrete. This species might not exist at all, but since so many books list their existence, they must. What happens to the people who try to document them.
Notes:
If there is little research about them, that either means nobody wants to truly find them or they never come back at all. A worrying concept if I ever run into one.
The idea that ghosts having more territory and people addressing their authority might be evidence for Concepts. If a ghost can get more powerful by getting people to address them as a boss or leader, than it shouldn't be too far of difference.
Possible that ghost could become a concept. Maybe there was a ghost with lightning powers that became Zeus or Thor. Or a ghost with water powers was mistaken for Poseidon, eventually creating a real one. Did ghosts with demonic powers come first, or did people come up with demons first?
Questions:
There must've been pantheons if they form out of the collective ideas of humanity. Where is the evidence for them and their civilizations? Some of them, like the Greeks, probably killed themselves with infighting, but what about others?
If these Concepts actually resemble gods or something, what does that mean for religion? Are all pantheons, beliefs, now right instead of wrong? Or does this make humans gods in a messed up way?
What happens to a ghost from the previous classes if they start getting worshipped/thought about/conceptualized like a Concept? Would they become a Concept over time? Or would a Concept form that looks exactly like the original ghost?
