~Hinata's POV~
The mission was straightforward enough. A C-rank escort mission to the Land of Rice Paddies and it was going perfectly so far. Nothing out of the ordinary and that would normally be ideal for any mission. However, in one Hyūga Hinata's case, one wrong move would lead to her downfall... literally.
Usually, if this mission was with her team and her team alone, she would've been just fine. But no, the universe wanted to play a petty little game with her and somehow manipulated Tsunade-sama into throwing in an extra team in their mission, which was apparently 'required' due to the excessive size of the clients' cargo.
(Hinata calls BS.)
And again, throwing in an extra team would've been just fine... if it wasn't team 7. The only team she both looked forward to and dreaded getting paired up with. Anyone in their right mind would've thought that after Hinata and a certain blond's conversation that one evening, that the shy girl would come out of her shell a little bit when it came to facing him right? Well, Hinata thought that as well, but it turns out that that simply wasn't the case.
For example; when the 5th Hokage announced to them in her office that team 8 and team 7 would be on going on a week long mission together, the only thing that popped up in the young Hyūga heiress's adolescent mind was 'A whole week... alone... with...N-N-Naruto-kun?!' It took majority of her strength not to faint right then and there, and though she didn't pass out, she didn't get out unscathed either, as her face had quickly become a glowing cherry red color for all to see.
Okay, she might've over reacted a little bit, after all, it wasn't like it was just the two of them alone for the entire week, it was hard to forget about the 6 other people (plus 1 dog) also on the mission with them, but still, her being flustered is completely justified when you're informed that you get to spend an entire week with your crush's team.
Then again, she guessed-
"Oi, Hinata." The harsh whisper of her feral teammate reached her ears, breaking her out of the cacophony of thoughts running around her mind.
"Y-yes, Kiba-kun?" She asked, turning towards the gap between two caravans, which was where Kiba was located.
"You think you'll be good since you know who is here?"
If it wasn't obvious already, it certainly was now that the Inuzuka was pointing to the blond haired boy named after a fish cake in front of him, whom was talking rather animatedly to his pink-haired teammate.
Hinata couldn't do anything but shrug as a light blush spread across her cheeks. She honestly didn't know if she'd be alright during this mission, but she could try to keep it together to the best of her abilities right?
"I-uh-I think I'll be alright." The 'I hope' afterwards went unsaid, but the Hyuga was sure he understood.
Evening approached faster than Hinata anticipated and it wasn't long before they decided it'd be best that they set up camp while the sun was still above to horizon.
Golden hour had already hit when the caravans and the two genin squads came to a full stop for the night and Hinata couldn't help but stare at the beautiful sun rays as they bathed everything in their path a comforting orange-ish yellow.
Soft and occasional chatter between the two parties and the chirping of birds heading back to their nests for the night was all that accompanied the magnificent sunset as the pre-teen girl watched with contentment.
"Neh, Hinata-chan? Watcha doin' over here?" A very familiar voice asked from next to her ear.
Said girl nearly jumped out of her skin when she heard the young teen's question come from her right. Face going cherry red, Hinata frantically searched her brain for an answer.
"N-Naruto-kun! Ah uh I-uhh-I w-was just- you know- l-looking at the- uhm- at the s-sunset..." She trailed off, cheeks blazing with heat at her pathetic answer.
She heard him hum as his blue eyes gazed at the slowly disappearing star.
Bending down to sit cross legged beside the Hyuga girl, he smiled widely at her before agreeing that the sunset was, indeed, a very pretty sight.
"There are sunsets like this all the time back home, they're especially nice when I go to my secret spot! But this is one is a bit different. It seems... happier, y'know!"
"Happier...?" She asked hesitantly.
"Yeah, I can feel it! This one's totally happier than the other ones I've seen!" He exclaimed with toothy grin.
Hinata, unlike her male friend, was questioning what he meant by that.
'It's happier? How can a sunset be 'happier' than others?'
"W-what do you mean 'happi-" She started, but she didn't get to finish before Naruto's female teammate interupted.
"Naruto! Stop slacking off, go help Sasuke-kun and Kakashi-sensei gather firewood! You can go on and on about the sunset later, there'll be plenty others like it!" Sakura yelled from behind them, her hands occupied by sleeping bags.
"Coming, Sakura-chan!" Swiftly unfurling his legs, the blond got up and jogged over to where he last saw the other members of his team, leaving the dark-haired girl to soak in the new information.
The crescent moon presented itself boldly in the night sky with its glittering counterparts not far from it, proceeding to light the forest in a dim blue glow, giving the foliage a rather mystical aura.
A ways away in a small clearing bathed in the moonlight, a young woman aroused from her fitful slumber, for something didn't feel right to her.
Pale eyes blinking away the grogginess in her mind to no avail, she sat up and looked around, curious as to what was giving her such a strange feeling.
"I could've sworn..." a yawn escaped her briefly, "that I heard something."
Untangling her feet from her sleeping bag and wobbly standing up, Hinata stepped into her ninja sandals and, with slight hesitation, left the campsite to find what was causing her to feel the way she did.
Going alone was a bad decision on her part.
She had been walking for what felt like hours, but clearly wasn't based on how little the moon had moved.
"I should probably take a break and start heading back, it might just be nothing after all." Hinata mused to herself before turning left towards what looked to be a small rock formation.
'I shouldn't have gone out here alone anyway, I have to hurry back before anyone wakes up. I can't have them worry about something that turned out to be so pointless.'
Upon reaching the cluster of rocks, her eyes slowly traveled up towards the tallest, where a strange and surprising sight met her.
There, on top of the highest rock, was one of the older clients that had hired them. She was studying was seemed to be a necklace or a charm of some sort, and very closely might Hinata add.
"Come up here, young one." The elderly woman suddenly called, startling the Hyuga.
"H-how did you-"
"It's alright, I don't bite. I just want to chat a little. Won't you keep an old lady company?"
Hurrying out of her place half hidden by a tree, she quickly climbed the tall rock and settled herself next to the elder, looking down at her lap and unsure of what to say next.
Thankfully, the woman seemed to have picked up on Hinata's confusion on what to say, but the topic that she chose was something far more awkward.
"So, you like that boy, do ya?"
Her heart skipped a beat at the question.
"W-what! I d-don't k-k-know what y-uh-you're t-talking about-"
"The blond haired, blue eyed one with the weird whiskers. The one that's a bit of an idiot."
Hinata knew exactly who the elder woman was talking about.
"Y-you mean Naruto-k-kun! N-n-no! I-uh-I d-don't like h-him-uuhh, I-no, I mean, I l-like him but n-not- I swear..." her protest was quickly becoming nothing more than an odd jumble of words.
"Oh cut it out, dear. It's obvious that you feel something towards him."
Face still flushed red, the young girl looked up and returned the client's gaze.
"H-how did you know?" Was she really that readable? Was it really that clear to see?
A fond chuckle escaped the older woman before she pointed to Hinata.
"It's written in your eyes, dear."
The chime of a bell rang in Hinata's ears as her world became more and more distorted. Her head felt like it was swimming and she couldn't make out anything other than the moon above and the mischievous, yet knowing face of the old lady in front of her.
Soon enough, her world faded completely to black, with the last thing she heard being "may your wish come true, and your love be reciprocated, young one".
So, how was that? This will be a two part, but this will be the last two part for a while.
I just couldn't fit it all in one chapter. Anyway, I hope y'all enjoyed this! Have a good day my honeybuns!
