Gamelover41592: So, at the time I was working on this, I picked Alola because it was the most recent generation. But when Galar came out...I never even considered switching. But I also picked Alola because I LOVED the story in both games and I thought combining them would make for an amazing story.

IllusionSign (Guest): Again, good. I'm doing a good job.

Omni Spectator (Guest): Trust me, I know that those things suck. I had to raise one for an Alolan Rachiu.

Alright, time for the first trial! Let's go!

"Kitty, will you relax!?" Emma snapped. "You are going to rip my arm off!" Yet again, Kitty was dragging her down the route. When the girls woke up the next morning, they found that Kukui had attached the charms that signaled they were on the Island Challenge. Needless to say, it led to lots of hugs before the girls set off. To say they were excited was an understatement.

"If we don't hurry, then we'll be late!" Kitty protested, although she did stop and let go.

"Kitty, when does dad ever set a time limit for us?" Emma pointed out. Kitty began to pout. "Hey, don't give me that look! We can explore, and then head over to the Trainer School to meet up with dad."

"Alright," Kitty agreed. "I do want to see if I can catch anything. After all, you and Hau already have teams of two!"

"We'll meet at the school," Emma said. Kitty just gave her a thumbs up and ran off.

"You're not actually gonna make us good here, right dad?" Kitty asked as she walked over to her father and a pink haired man.

"Nah!" Kukui said with a laugh. "I'm not gonna send you two here. You've already learned everything this place could teach you...at this school, actually!"

Kitty laughed. "I almost forgot about that!" Emma then came running over.

"And there's the other one," The man said.

"Sorry I kept you waiting," Emma apologized. "You know how I get when I'm doing my work."

"It's fine," The man assured her. Emma and Kitty knew him very well. It was the normal type Trial Captain, Ilima! "When you two are ready for your Trial, come meet me in Hau'oil City." With that, he walked off. Both girls looked at each other. They knew where they needed to go next!

"This place always looks so pretty at night," Kitty noted. Neither girl realized how quickly time flew until they arrived to see the city all lit up.

"He-e-ey! Emma! Kitty! I thought I recognized the sound of those feet!" Hau called out as he ran over.

"Kinda creepy…" Emma nervously noted.

"I thought it was sweet," Kitty chimed in. Emma rolled her eyes.

"Hey, come in here with me," Hau said as he pointed to a nearby building. "I have an idea of something you could do!" Deciding to trust their friend, Emma and Kitty followed their friend into the building. He walked over to the counter. "Hey, miss. Is it true that you can get some kinda special gift if you have a Rotom Dex."

"My goodness, you get the news fast!" The lady behind the counter marveled. "Hardly anyone has a Rotom Dex, but it is true that we have a special item to go with it. It's our very own Poké Finder! Here you go!"

"Awesome!" Hau cheered as the girls took their new attachments and put them on their Rotom Dex. "Isn't that awesome? You got a Poké Finder!" He then turned back to the lady behind the counter. "So, like, what's a Poké Finder?" Emma facepalmed.

"The Poké Finder is a tool that lets you take photos of Pokémon," The lady began to explain. "Rotom will help photo out places where you'll be able to take photos, too."

"Can we use it to take pictures of ourselves!?" Kitty eagerly asked. Emma rolled her eyes. Her sister's selfie antics could get annoying sometimes.

"I would recommend the Alola Photo Club for that," The lady said with a laugh.

"Man, that Rotom Dex is cool! It's like a whole nother partner!" Hau noted.

"I guess it is," Emma said with a fond smile. "C'mon, let's go find Captain Iliam." Bidding a thank you to the lady, she headed out.

"Never thought that Emma would be the first to head out," Kitty admitted to Hau. "I thought I'd be the first to go after the trial."

"Well, you know that she probably just wants to study the Totem Pokémon," Hau joked.

"Honestly, you're totally right," Kitty agreed with a laugh. "But we should catch her. There is no way I'm letting her beat me!" Hau raced ahead, with Kitty hot on his tail. Kitty, however, stopped when she saw Lillie staring at a clothing store. "Hey, Lillie!"

"Oh Kitty…" Lillie said once she saw Kitty walk over. "Tell me, do you pick out all your clothes?"

"I mean, I try too," Kitty admitted as she looked over herself. She was dressed in a purple striped v-neck tee shirt, grey capri pants, an old pair of socks and sneakers, and, of course, her trusty bag. Emma tended to dress a bit more on the nicer side, but she was still rather casual as well: a black flower print top, black capri pants, new crew socks, white espadrilles, a bag of her own and a pencil behind her ear. Nothing like Lillie's sundress and large hat.

"Of course...most people do, don't they….?" Lillie trailed off. "I...I've always just worn the clothes that my mother wanted me to wear. I don't know what kind of thing would suit me…"

"When I'm done here, Emma and I could always take you shopping!" Kitty offered.

"Oh! But that's not why I stopped you," Lillie admitted. "I wanted to give you this, Kitty. I received him inside the apparel shop here. I didn't even get anything, but since I was the 99,999th customer to visit the store...but I already have the same one, so I thought that maybe you might...want it?" Lillie then handed her a lens case.

"Oh! I know what these are!" Kitty said. "I used to steal my mom's assistant's to give myself red eyes. It was so much fun to freak out Emma! You think I could still use them to scare her?!"

Lillie jumped back. Kitty's enthusiasm was hard to handle sometimes. "I...I guess."

Kitty then pulled her into a hug. "Thanks Lillie!"

"Kitty, knock it off!" Emma snapped when she saw Kitty's new red eyes. She had just finished up with her Trial and Kitty had jumped out with bright red eyes. She knew what they were, but it didn't make it any less annoying.

"Yes! Still works!" Kitty cheered. "How'd the Trial go?"

"Passed with flying colors," Emma revealed with a smug smile. "He said he'll meet you outside the Trial spot on Route 2."

"Thanks Em!" Kitty cheered as she gave her sister and hug and raced off. She had a Trial to complete!

"Kitty wait!" Emma called after her. Kitty stopped and let her sister catch up with her. "Keep an eye out for Team Skull. They attempted to battle Ilima and I, but we beat and scared them off."

Kitty nodded. "Got it."

"Cutiefly is a perfect name for you!" Kitty gushed. As she walked along Route 2, she had run into (literally) a Cutiefly. It's cute looks caused Kitty to squee and declare that she needed it on her team. Cutiefly seemed to like her too, as she went into the Thankfully, she wasn't too far from Captain Ilima.

"Your sister told me you would be coming," He said. Kitty realized that day had broken. How long had she been messing around in Hau'oil City? Note that the Pokémon living within Verdant Cavern are quite fierce. I wouldn't venture in unless you've prepared some Potions and so forth."

"Already taken care of!" Kitty revealed.

"Very well," Ilima said. "Through attempting the Trials during the Island Challenge, one can exceed his or her own limits...that is what the Alola people believe. Once you enter Verdant Cavern, you will not be able to leave until you have completed the Trial. Are you sure you are prepared for the Trial?"

"Yes, I'm ready," Kitty declared, her voice taking on a tone that would better fit her sister.

"Then let's begin," Ilima said as he walked in. Once they were inside, he turned to face Kitty again. "Let me formally welcome you to Verdant Cavern! I am your captain, Ilima. Allow me to explain the basics of my Trial. What you should attempt to do is...defeat three of the Pokémon that lurk here in their dens! Then reach the pedestal within the cave...and collect the Z-Crystal there! You'll need to be completely in sync with your Pokémon to succeed!"

"GRRRR!"

"Oh dear! And there's one more thing I forgot to mention!" Ilima remembered. "Many strong Pokémon make their home in this cave, but one stronger and more fearsome that all the rest, known as a Totem Pokémon, also resides here! It will be the greatest obstacle you face as you attempt to clear my Trial! By the way, until you clear the Trial, you will not be able to catch Pokémon in Verdant Cavern. This is but one of the seven trials you will face during your Island Challenge."

Kitty nodded. She could do this! "I'm ready! I can handle anything!"

"And it begins now! The Trial of Captain Ilima!" Ilima declared as he stepped to the side. Kitty took off into the cave. She peaked inside the closest den, causing a Yungoos to jump out at her. Sending out Rowlet, she went on the attack. It didn't take her long to defeat the Yungoos, where she then moved onto the next.

"Yo, yo, yo!" Kitty froze. Two Team Skull members blocked her path.

"Your sister beat us, so we're gonna get a little pay back!" One snapped at her. "So we're gonna mess up your Trial, yo!"

"Yeah, that's right!" The other grunt said. "Yo, let's get that Pokémon homie!"

"Bring it on!" Kitty declared as she tossed out Cutiefly. The grunt then tossed out a Drowzee.

"Yo Drowzee, use Pound!" The grunt ordered. The Drowzee landed the hit, but Cutiefly stayed strong.

"Cutiefly! Are you okay!?" Kitty begged.

"Cute…"

"Okay, I know that hurt, but I need you to hang on!" Kitty said. "Now, Silver Wind!" Cutiefly attacked and, due to the attack being super effective, was able to knock out Drowzee.

"What's up with that?!" The grunt exclaimed as Kitty healed her Pokémon.

"For real, though?!" The second chimed in. "I can't get my skull around it! This kid's mad strong, yo!"

"Naw, it ain't even like that! This kid and her sister are straight up dangerous, homie!" The first one corrected, gesturing wildly.

"I don't know man...isn't this whole place trouble?!" The second one pointed out.

"Yeah! It totally is, homie!" The first one agreed. "I mean, that thing is so strong that regular Pokémon don't even wanna come out and battle!" They then raced off.

"Weirdos…" Kitty grumbled. She then shook her head. She had a Trial to finish!

"Alright, where's this Totem Pokémon?" Kitty asked as she walked towards the spot the Totem Pokémon was supposed to be. Yet, she saw nothing. All that was there was the pedestal where the Z-Crystals were. Walking towards it, she didn't say anything, but felt a glare piercing through her. She couldn't tell where it was coming from. Deciding to risk it, she reached for the Crystal, only to look up. She saw the Pokémon.

The Totem Gumshoos.

It leapt down, blocking her way to the pedestal. She watched as it's aura flared to life. She knew that it could only make Gumshoos stronger. But Kitty was ready. She would not back down!

"Popplio, go!" Kitty ordered as she threw her starter out. The Gumshoos attacked first, attacking with Bite. Popplio was barely able to dodge. "Use Aqua Jet!" Popplio slammed into the Gumshoos, knocking it back. Suddenly, Popplio attacked again, glowing. When the attack landed again, Kitty gasped. Popplio had transformed, no, evolved!

"Zrrrrrttttt! Brionne, the Pop Star Pokémon. A skillful dancer, it creates a sequence of water balloons as it dances, and briskly bombards its enemies." Rotom announced.

"Brionne?" Kitty questioned. When Brionne turned around and smiled at her, she knew that it was still her starter. "Let's wrap this up, shall we?"

"Bwark!"

"Ice beam!" With the final attack, the Totem Pokémon fainted. Kitty squealed and hugged her Pokémon. "YES! That was so GOOD!" Gumshoos disappeared into the cave. With a deep breath, Kitty took the Crystal from the pedestal.

"What an incredible pair of trainers you and your sister are!" Ilima marveled as he walked over to Kitty. "For you both to be able to defeat the Totem Pokémon that I had trained to such a powerful state...I don't know what I can say! Why, both of your starters even evolved as well!"

"Really?" Kitty asked. She couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that Emma's starter had evolved as well.

"Working in harmony with your Pokémon, you have cleared the Trial of Ilima. You're a phenomenal trainer!" Ilima congratulated her. "You've earned that Normalium Z! I'm sure you know this already, but if your Pokémon uses a Normal Type move in toe with that…" He then began to perform a series of movements. "...and strike an elegant pose like this one...then you will be able to strengthen a Normal Type move by unleashing Z-Power!"

"Heck yes!" Kitty cheered.

"Moving right along…" He began to walk away, only to turn back around. "Ah, yes. First, there is one thing I forgot to mention. Since you defeated the Totem Pokémon and proved yourself, you can now try to catch any Pokémon you find here in this cave. In fact, have some Great Balls. He then handed her a set of Great Balls. "And here, let me see your Pokémon after all their hard work in here!" He then healed Brionne and Cutiefly. "If we're done here, I have something interesting to show you. Come with me to Route 3." He then walked off, with Kitty following. This was an awesome start to her journey.

So I'm trying to have parallels between Emma and Kitty's teams. So, since Emma got a fast bug type, I thought it would be fitting to give Kitty one as well. And, come on, of course she's gonna get a Cutiefly! See ya next time!
