A while later, Andrew and Allison came back with cans of Coca-Cola...
I sat back down at my place, Brian next to me while Bender went between the jock and the princess.
"What's in there?" he asked Claire.
"Guess. Where's your lunch?" she replied.
"She's wearing it." He answered pointing to me.
Brian and Andy glared while I blushed and smiled, kinda amused.
"You're nauseating." Claire answered
John took a can and threw it over his shoulder to the unnamed girl in the back. She caught it without even looking. I was impressed, I smiled at her, she sent a smile back and I turned to my bag.
John looked at Claire's lunch. "What's that?"
"Sushi." she stated simply.
"Su-shi?" he repeated
"Rice, raw fish and seaweed." the princess explained.
Brian, Bender, and I had the same grossed-out look on our face. My dad loves sushi, but I always found the mere idea of it to be wrong. Raw fish? Really?
"You won't accept a guy's tongue in your mouth and you're going to eat that?!" He questioned in disbelief.
"Can I eat?" she spat.
"I don't know, give it a try..." replied the criminal.
Before Princess could retort anything, our attention was brought to Andrew who was getting his awfully big lunch out. He had a big bag of chips, three sandwiches, a bag of cookies, milk, an apple and a banana.
Once he remarked that we were all still watching him with judging eyes, he said "What's your problem?"
I took my sandwich out and began to eat, speaking quietly with my friend. That was until John came and sat between us, an arm around my chair.
"What're we having?" asked Bender
"Uh, it's your standard, regular lunch I guess…" answered Brian quietly
John reached in the bag and pulled a thermos out. I recognized that thermos, I bought it for him for his birthday. We had just met, and I thought a thermos was a safe bet which it was.
"Milk?"
"Soup." Answered Brian
He went in again and pulled out a juice box.
"That's… That's apple juice…"
"I can read!" snapped Bender and I elbowed him, but he ignored me. "PB & J with the crusts cut off… Well Brian, this is a very nutritious lunch, all the food are represented. Did your mom marry Mr. Rogers?" he asked sarcastically.
"Uh, no, Mr. Johnson…" asked my friend, confused
I chuckled under my breath, I knew he was dead serious and that's what made this answer even more priceless than if he was sarcastic.
Bender stood, squeezing my shoulder as he went.
"Here's my impression of life at big Bri's house…"
Oh, no, this is not going to end well. I grabbed Brian's hand as I could see him tense suddenly.
"Son!" Bender began with a booming voice.
"Yeah, dad?" he replied himself with a child's voice that is supposed to be Brian's.
"How's your day, pal?" he continued, as the dad.
"Great dad, how's yours?" he asked with "Brian's" voice.
"Super! Say son, how'd you like to go fishing this weekend?" he proposed with the dad's voice.
"Great dad, but I've got homework to do!"
"That's all-right son, you can do it on the boat!" the 'dad' said.
"Gee!" exclaimed 'Brian'.
"Dear, isn't our son swell?" asked 'Mr. Johnson' to 'Mrs. Johnson'.
"Yeah, dear. Isn't life swell?" Bender added Brian's mother in the imitation.
The criminal then made kissing sound before making it look like the dad punch the mother.
Brian had an iron grip on my hand by the end of it, but I didn't care, I was glaring at Bender as hard as I could. How dare he make assumptions like this? He knows nothing of what Brian has to go through! I know that everything said here was far from the truth. I breathed deeply to calm myself. 5, 4, 3…
I was forced out of my calming exercise by Sporto's voice
"Alright, what about your family?" asked Andy.
"Who, mine?"
"Yeah."
"It's easy."
Bender returned in the front of the statue and I got concerned. I saw the look in his eyes. This is not going to end well.
"Stupid, worthless, no-good, freeloading son of a bitch, retarded, big mouth, know it all, asshole, jerk!" John started, imitating his father.
"You forgot ugly, lazy and disrespectful." he continued, pretending to be his mother.
"Shut up! Go fix me a turkey pot pie!" he yelled as 'dad'.
"What about you, dad?" he asked as him.
"Fuck you!" he said as his father.
"No, dad, what about you?"
"Fuck you!"
"No, dad, what about you?" he asked again as him, raising his voice.
"Fuck you!" he yelled.
He then pretended that his father had hit him.
I had tears in my eyes, I knew this wouldn't be good, but he avoided any eye contact with me. I wanted nothing more than to go up and hug him, telling him everything would be alright, but I didn't know it and I hate making false promises.
Then, Brian decided to speak up. "Is that for real?"
I hit his arm and he looked apologetic. This is the most real moment I've seen from John so far and everyone must have noticed it.
"You want to come over sometimes?" asked sarcastically the criminal.
"That's bullshit. It's all part of your image; I don't believe a word of it." sneered Andrew.
Maybe not everyone, I turned to glare at him
"You don't believe me?" asked John in a quiet voice, I could hear the hurt in his statement.
"No…"
"No?"
"Did I stutter?" I couldn't believe Andy right now. How could he? How could anyone make something like that up for a fucking reputation?
Bender slowly and dangerously walked to him and rolled up his sleeve. When I saw his arm, I had to grab the table to keep me still. There was a burn mark. It was round. I felt my eyes water again. How could a parent do this to their kid?
"Do you believe this? Huh? It's about the size of a cigar… Do I stutter? You see, this is what you get in my house when you spill paint in the garage."
With that, he began to walk away and all I could do was stare.
"See, I don't think that I need to sit here with you fuckin' dildos anymore!"
With that he climbed up on the second-floor balcony. I turned to Brian. He looked shocked but mostly fine. He turned and saw the question in my eyes. He nodded and I quickly hugged him. I know he will be fine, but I can't help but worry.
"You shouldn't have said that!" said Claire to Andy
"How would I know? I mean he lies about everything anyway!"
I froze.
"Go Gabby, he needs you." Whispered Brian to me.
I kissed his cheek, stood, gave Brian my notebook for safekeeping, took my sandwich, my book and then went to Andy's table to take one of his sandwiches.
"How could you? Stop making assumptions about people you don't know! Who in their right mind would make something like that up? Next time, use your fucking brain." I sneered before going up the stairs.
I had to get away from Andy, I was too angry. When I got to John's level, I sat silently next to him.
"If you're going to say, "I understand" please go the fuck away." He told me threateningly.
I just raised an eyebrow and handed him Andy's sandwich. He looked bemused.
"Where did you get that?"
"I may have stolen one of Sporto's…" I answered, blushing.
He chuckled and kissed my forehead before biting into it. I smiled at the feeling of his lips on my skin.
"Say Gabby…" he began "Since when are you dating Pee-wee?"
I snorted
"BRIAN is my friend, nothing else. That would be just wrong. He's basically my brother anyway." I explained with a small smile.
He nodded with a smile
"Good."
I frowned slightly
"Good?"
"Good." He stated again.
I shrugged at him and smiled.
"You shouldn't have done that by the way John."
"What?"
"Making fun of Brian's home life. I just yelled at Andy for doing the same thing, so you are not going to get out of it."
He simply snorted and raised an eyebrow which I responded with a slight glare.
"Why? I missed the mark?"
"Big time." I said simply
He looked shocked then apologetic before going back to his poker face.
"I just ask that you apologize to him please John." I told him
He shrugged and I smiled, I know that will be the best I will get out of him so I don't push the matter for now.
"What about you Blondie?"
"Me?"
"What is your family like?" he asked curiously
"I live with both my parents." I began carefully. "Most of the time, I get along well with them. My sister and I were raised to learn and understand self-mockery and irony. It's nearly a second language for my father. My dad basically raised us alone, my mom travelled a lot for her work, but she was always there when we needed her. I love my family." I finished smiling softly at the thought.
I felt him take a strand of hair and pull it behind my ear, softly caressing my cheek. I blushed very hard and smiled shyly at him. He smirked back and kept on eating while I took my book out and began to read. We stayed side by side in silence for a few moments.
"Why did you come after me?" he asked after having finished his sandwich
I shrugged and buried my nose further into the book, avoiding the question as best as I could. He chuckled
"Cat got your tongue?"
"The Cheshire cat did." I answered pointing to my book.
"Does that make you Alice?"
"Maybe."
"Then that's what I'll call you from now on." He said as he got up. He gave me his hand to help me up. Which I took but when I tried to get away, he kept it firmly into his and began to drag me down the stairs.
"Where are we going?" I asked him
"Getting you into Wonderland, of course."
Bye guys! Have fun and see you next week
