After we had eventually gotten out of bed and had something to eat, we spent our free time with Amy introducing me to her latest favorite show. We had decided to watch a few episodes, and before we knew it, it was time to leave for the party. "Ready to get going?" I asked Amy as I knelt down to pick her up.
"Yes, but we're walking this time," Amy explained. I rose back up, slightly confused. "Save some of your energy for those times you gotta run just to run, y'know?" she added. I smiled, nodding at the suggestion as we stepped out the door. As we began our walk, Amy decided to tell me a bit about the neighborhood. "So on the right of me is Beth and Martin, this super cute old couple who like baking together," she started. "Then on the left is Olivia, who everyone knows is still searching for someone, and once a week she babysits her two loud nephews."
"Definitely sounds like an interesting place," I commented.
"Any of your neighbors got interesting stuff going on?" she then asked.
I wasn't quite sure what to say at first. "I... wouldn't really know," I eventually responded.
"Well, we're gonna have to change that soon," Amy said, worrying me slightly. "Or, whenever you're ready, of course," she added, much to my relief. It wasn't too long before we had begun approaching Blaze's house, seeing a few balloons hanging from the mailbox and next to the door. We walked up to the door and I began knocking, but was only able to knock once before the door flew open, revealing a familiar blue hedgehog.
"Great to see you guys show up, come in!" Sonic said excitedly. He grabbed my arm and I quickly took hold of Amy's hand before he pulled us both into the house. As Amy and I were dragged in, we took sight of a party already in full swing. Music was playing with multiple conversations going on over it, there were different snacks and drinks on the counters, and a majority of the top half of the room was covered in streamers and balloons. Everyone who was at Tails' birthday party seemed to have come together once again, yet this time I felt a bit more satisfied seeing them all enjoying themselves. "So, what do you guys think?" Sonic asked as Blaze walked up to greet us.
"I love it!" Amy responded. "Great job, guys!"
"Yeah, amazing job," I agreed. "Though, I wouldn't be surprised if you're stealing Blaze's credit, Sonic," I added, shooting a smirk at the hedgehog.
"Hey, not to discredit Blaze, but this party would've been nothing without me," Sonic countered, showing off his own overconfident smirk. Sonic suddenly let out a small laugh, his confident expression faltering. We both began laughing at each other, Sonic throwing an arm around my shoulder.
"I'm happy to hear you both like it," Blaze said. "Now, would you like to join in?"
"Of course!" I answered, giving Sonic a light, playful punch on the arm as Amy and I stepped away. I grabbed a drink and walked over with Amy to talk to Tails and Knuckles. "So how's it going with you guys?" I asked.
"I'm doing well, finished up some renovations on the Tornado yesterday," Tails explained enthusiastically.
"Yeah I'm good too, I've... basically been doing nothing for like, the past two days," Knuckles responded, looking satisfied with himself.
"Hey, I'll be right back," Amy told me, motioning towards Cream and her mother on the other side of the room. I nodded as she walked away before turning my attention back to Tails and Knuckles.
Tails sighed, "You know, except for making my renovations take longer yesterday."
"Hey, that was not my fault," Knuckles insisted. I could see this getting bad really fast.
"So on another note," I raised my voice slightly to interrupt the other two. "Anybody else think that Sonic and Blaze might have something going on?"
"Uh... I don't think so," Tails replied.
"You don't? I thought I saw a bit of something the other day," I said.
"No, definitely not," Knuckles added in agreement with Tails. "Anyway, I gotta ask Vector about something, see ya, Shadow."
"Yeah, see ya!" Tails added as the two walked away. I was left confused by their answers, so I decided to talk to Blaze.
"Hey, Blaze," I started as I approached. "Sorry if this is invasive, but is there a chance you and Sonic could be a thing?"
Blaze looked at me, but was unresponsive for a moment. "... Really?" she eventually asked, much to my obvious confusion. "Have you even looked at Sonic while you've been here?" She pointed to a corner of the room, where Sonic was standing next to Espio. I had turned just soon enough to see Sonic sneak a kiss from the chameleon, and the playful looks they gave each other confirmed any suspicions.
"That... explains quite a bit," I reacted as many pieces suddenly fell into place.
"Did you not know?" Blaze questioned.
"Nobody told me!" I retorted, followed by the sound of someone snickering behind me. I turned around to see Amy standing there, laughing. "How was I supposed to know?!" I asked.
"It's not our fault if everyone just thought you'd be able to tell, Shadow," Amy explained.
I felt as if every answer I was getting just brought up more questions, "Everyone knew?"
"Yeah Shadow, everyone," Blaze confirmed.
"I just..." my embarrassment was beginning to be hard to stand. "... want to get back to enjoying the party," I eventually said.
"No problem, Shadow," Amy said before leaning in and kissing my cheek. "It's really nothing to worry about." As usual, I felt my issues melt away with her words, and her touch.
"I love you so much," I told her.
"I love you too, Shadow," Amy told me. We leaned in, sharing a short kiss as I heard Sonic cheer us on from the other side of the room. I rolled my eyes at the sound, but still found myself enjoying the moment. I was basking in this amazing feeling that warmed me up inside. I didn't know how aware she was of it, but with just those simple words, I felt as if all of my problems were solved.
