March 18th Volt Lair (Maddie's POV)-

"So what did you say to get out of the house?" I asked him as I opened a secret passage to my lair. He had to go through a series of caves to get there and it could only be opened by me from the inside.

"I told them that I wanted to go to the library. No one questioned it." He brought me into a hug and I leaned into him. "You weren't kidding when you said this place was more secure than the lab." He said walking in with his arm around my shoulders.

"Well I did learn what not to do from Davenport so I have that advantage." I said with a smirk. I pulled away from him excited and bounced on my toes. "Are you sir excited for our very first movie date?" I pulled him toward the end of my workshop.

Usually there was just an old couch against my bad wall in case I want to sleep in here, but tonight I had it set up with extra blankets and pillows. There was extra popcorn and drinks set up with a movie screen a few feet in front of it.

"You mean our first date?" he corrected.

"Semantics." he laughed and shook his head at me.

The plan was to watch the first two galaxy war movies and just hangout. We sat down and got comfortable for the first movie. Half way through the movie I laid my he on his shoulder and we moved closer together. We quoted our favorite lines and talked about our theories.

"Alright time to refill the popcorn." I gave him a kiss on the cheek as he switched to the next movie before heading to the kitchen area in the next room over. By the time I got back he had the movie pulled up ready to start. I sat down and he started the movie.

We are about halfway through the movie when he turns to ask me "Are we together like boyfriend and girlfriend?"

"Well no cause you never asked." I said, still looking at the movie. He moved me so that I was facing him.

"Well I'm asking now. Maddison Tompkins, will you be my girlfriend?" I was so lost in his eyes and his goofy smile that I forgot to answer. "Madds?" He asks.

"Let me think about it." I leaned in to kiss him. The kiss was warm and slow. With hands on my lower back and mine in his hair. Pulling away I answered. "Sure. Why not?"

"You're annoying." He pulled away without losing his smile.

"Yeah, but you're the one who's stuck with me." This time he came in for a kiss.

It started out slow and warm like the last one. It quickly became more passionate and heated. I pulled closer to him all but straddling him. He slid his tongue across my lips asking for entrance and I gave way. I began to lean back into the couch with him over me. He used his muscle to work his way around my mouth studying every detail. I moaned In pleasure of the feeling, my back arching pushing me into his hands as they roamed my back and hips. He had to pull away because oxygen is apparently something people need. I was suddenly loving my increased lung capacity.

"My boyfriend is a great kisser." I said as I moved to sit up. I cuddled into his side as he laughed.

"And my girlfriend is an adorable dork." I saw that we had missed around fifteen minutes of the movie with our conversation and goofing around.

We enjoyed the rest of the movie talking and laughing before Chase had to go home. I gave him a short and sweet kiss goodbye as he left remembering the feeling until I got the chance again.

March 20th Davenport Lab (Maddie's POV)-

"Okay, guys. The next phase of your training is handling extreme climates. So we'll frost Chase, bake Bree, and submerge Adam. That's not part of the training, I just got one of those carnival dunk tanks and I can't wait to try it out. And Leo before you ask Maddie already volunteered first shot at the dunk tank." Davenport explained. I stuck my tongue out at Leo.

"Okay, Chase, I'm setting your tube on "Antarctic." If it gets to be too much, just give me a sign." Chase got into his capsule.

"Bring it!" Chase challenged, his capsule powering up.

"Hey, that's not fair. I want to be abused by weather." Leo whined.

"Leo, if you really want to be abused, try standing over here next to Adam's morning breath." Bree said.

"That's not morning breath. It smells like that all day." I said to bree Adam looked proud. Gross.

"Leo, these guys are genetically engineered to handle these kind of climates. You and Maddie are not." If he only knew.

"I can handle extreme cold." Leo tried.

"Leo, you get brain freeze from chewing mint gum." I shut him down. Then Davenport's phone began to ring.

"Davenport." He answered." What?! Well, that's terrible! I mean, that's awesome, but that's terrible!" I look'd over to check on Chase, he gave me a thumbs up. "I- I gotta do something." Davenport hung up.

"What's going on? What's so terrible?" Adam asked.

"I created the world's fastest train, but now it's speeding out of control full of highly explosive nuclonium towards downtown Welkerville!" he explained.

"Well, then what was awesome?" Bree asked.

"It's going like 400 miles an hour." He gushed.

"Awesome." I said in awe. "Do you think the acceleration is exponential?" The science behind it was so interesting.

"Maddie focus! My entire career is riding or perhaps crashing on this train!"

"And the fact that tons of people are in danger from another one of your inventions." I added.

"Not helping. I don't understand it! My design was flawless!" He complained.

"So flawless you forgot to include an emergency brake?" Leo added.

"No. I never counted on the conductor dropping his papaya smoothie all over the controls and then jumping off the train." Davenport said exasperated.

"Well, if I were to build a high-speed train, the first thing I would have put in was a cup holder. Oh! And one of those bumper stickers on the back that says, "I brake for cows."" I wonder what it looks like inside of Adam's mind. I looked over to see Chase begging for help, almost frozen.

"When stuff like this happens, they always blame the scientist." I ran over to the console in front of the consoles to release Chase. "This is human error. Scientists don't make mistakes." Davenport said oblivious.

"Yeah, right. You're perfect." I answered in sarcasm. I helped Chase over to the stole and Bree sped over with a blanket to help Chase's temperature. My poor baby.

"Ugh, Chase. Now I have to explain the whole train story again." Davenport complained.

"The good news is, whenever I invent something, I always create a backup device to support it." Davenport said.

"As opposed to just building it right the first time." Chase said.

"Ya know, I think I liked you better frozen." Davenport pointed out and unpacked a large device. "My auxiliary decelerator will stop anything— Ocean liners, freight trains, tanks, eighteen-wheelers, twelve-wheelers—"

"Does it stop unnecessarily long explanations?" Leo interrupted.

"Apparently so. Only problem is, I can't figure out how to get it on the train." He mentioned.

"You guys thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?" Bree started.

"Our first mission!" Bree and Chase said excited.

"I want a pet pig!" Adam said on his own.

"No. No, no, no. You are not prepared for this kind of mission. It is a highly volatile situation. Down the line— Fingers crossed— There will be plenty of other horrible disasters." Davenport said stopping them.

"Yeah, but... You need to stop this train now. And you need us to help you do it. Your career depends on it." Chase reminded him.

"Yeah and the lives of many people." I mumbled.

"Please, Mr. Davenport. This is what you trained us for." Bree pleaded

"All right, you gotta leave the nest sometime. Okay, get in your capsules, guys. I can't believe I'm saying this-" He began to get choked up. "It's time to upgrade your mission suits."

"I hope you addressed the chafing problem." He said as the trio got into their capsules.

Davenport and I went to the desk in front of the capsules initiating the new mission suit design to come up and dress them.

"Sweet! Ooh! I see you put in seat warmers." Adam commented.

"All right... We'll be able to use these earpieces to communicate." I grabbed the box of ear pieces from under the desk.

"We'll monitor your progress on the train surveillance system. That way if you blow yourselves up in a fiery explosion I can watch it unfold in glorious HD. That came out wrong." Davenport said. While he wasn't looking I used my phone to send Tessa a command to call me so I'd have an excuse to leave.

"We get our first mission!" Chase said excited.

"And we get to save lives!" Bree gushed.

"Seriously, I want a pig!" We all questioned Adam with a look.

"Bree... Chase... Adam." Davenport said passing each of them their coms. Then Leo jumped in grabbing Adam's.

"Hey!" Adam exclaimed.

"Leo!" He called.

"What am I supposed to use— two cans and a string?" Leo asked as my phone rang.

"I gotta take this." I said stepping out.

"Maddie, where are you?" The person asked as I picked up the phone.

"Hello to you too Angela."

"Sorry, but I really need your help right now." She pleaded. "Our base is being attacked by Tempus and Cooper is already down."

"What? Ok, yeah I'll be there as soon as I can just hold on."

"Really, I was planning on surrendering." She said, dripping in sarcasm.

"See you soon, stay safe." I hung up and walked back into the lab and saw Tasha there as well.

"Well, your favorite news reporter just got their big break." Tasha said.

"Linda Montieres?" "Chip Spudner?" "And Tom Constan with sports?" The trio asked.

"No, me! I am done reporting on singing dogs and babies who look like ex-presidents. The network finally gave me a real assignment. I'm covering a runaway train!" Tasha explained.

"No way! Ain't that a coinky-dink? Mr. Davenport-" Adam started.

"Is, uh— is, uh, so proud of you, honey." Davenport covered.

"Will you watch Leo? I have a train to catch." She asked Davenport.

"Absolutely. And don't forget, be balanced and fair, collect all the facts, and blame the conductor— he's an idiot." He said, pushing his wife onto the elevator.

"That was my mom. I need to go home. It's a family emergency." I lied.

"This stinks. Everybody gets to go on an adventure but me." Leo complained.

"Leo, just because you can't go on the train doesn't mean we can't have fun here. I'll pop in the Gooby the Spunky Caboose DVD for you." Davenport said.

"I'm fourteen." Leo objected.

"Okay, then pop it in yourself. Come on, guys, we don't have a lot of time. We gotta get you in your gear. Maddie try and get back as soon as you can." I watched as Davenport led the trio out of the lab and headed for the elevator.

I left the house getting back to my lair as fast a possible getting my mission suit and hoverbike. I left for Angela's Team's lair.

Paragon Base (Maddie's POV)-

By the time I got to their base the place was up in smoke. I could hear the grunting, blasts, and weapons being fired coming from inside. The fight was still going and I made my way inside quietly. Using the element of surprise would be my best bet. Angela was still fighting Tempus, she had help from Elijah, but the two could barely hold off his fire and ice powers.

"Hey Tempus," I said, revealing my position with electricity bouncing off of me. "Miss me?" I hit him with a blast so large it knocked him across the room but he wasn't down yet.

"Volt! Ready for a fight?" Elijah asked dodging an ice blast.

"Nah, but I'm here so why not." I sent three smaller blasts. "By the way, thanks for the invite Crossbow." I said to Angela

"You know there's usually not this much talking in a fight." Tempus said getting annoyed.

"And did you know that attacking a superhero base alone it a stupid idea." I kicked his side causing him to double over before he hit me with a fireball. "Not cool dude." I winced.

"Can we wrap this up. I have some stuff to do." Elijah said ducking a blast and hitting Tempus with his plasm blast.

"Yeah, cause we weren't trying to do that before." Angela yelled, attacking Tempus with arrows.

The three of us ducked behind a pile of ruble to regroup. Elijah threw a couple flash grenades to throw Tempus off.

"We need a plan." I huffed.

"Okay, we know that his abilities come from the suit he wears to if you can short circuit the energy source that should take him out. Elijah and I will cover you, come from behind for the element of surprise." We nodded breaking apart. I moved across the room ducking behind an overturned table.

"Ready for another round?" Tempus asked, smirking.

"What? You getting tired already?" Angela asked.

The two rushed at him, Elijah kicked his side and Angela shot at him. Tempus hit Angela with an ice blast freezing one of her feet to the ground. Eli used a strong blast to knock him off balance. Using the opening I grabbed his shoulder swinging my body over his to wrap my legs around his neck. Before he had the chance to react I sent an electric blast to the energy unit that rested at the base of his neck. The suit began to spark and shut down as I dismounted him.

"You couldn't have done that earlier?" Eli asked and Angela began to break the ice off her foot.

"Are you really asking that right now after I came and saved your butt?" I gave him a menacing glare.

"No mam'." He answered quickly. He grabbed a pair of handcuffs from his belt and led him out of his room towards the holding area that they had.

"Thanks for coming to help Maddie." Angela said after they left the room. "I should go check on Cooper and Oliva in the med bay, I'm sure they'd love to see you." She added.

"Ah, how are they?" I said following her to the med bay.

"Well Cooper was there when Tempus attacked at first and was caught off guard. He got a hard blast and hit his head hard. Oliva says that he has a mild concussion but he's still knocked out." We got there to see Oliva buzzing around the lab, her blond hair in a messy bun and her bangs in her eyes. She turned around to see us walking in.

"Maddie!" She ran over barreling into me, almost knocking me over.

"Hey, Olivia-" I winced trying to breathe. "Kinda- need to- breath- Liv-"

"Oh yeah, sorry." she released me.

"So how's Chase?" She asked excitedly. I paled. I forgot that Oliva had the power of precognition.

"How much do you know?" I questioned.

"I saw a very cute moment between you too in the future and you seemed very happy." She answered vaguely. Okay that means she and Chase eventually meet, and she can't tell me when or how cause it will reveal something else.

"Well we met a couple years back but we only just started dating."

"Awe so cute!" She squealed, I covered my ears.

"Liv, leave Maddie alone. You know she doesn't like talking about her personal life." Angela teased.

"Okay Tempus is all locked up, pouting away in his cell and I called the Mighty Max guards to take him in." Elijah said as he walked in. "How's Coop?" He asked.

"He's alright. He'll be waking up in a bit but for now he should be fine." Oliva answered.

"Alright guys. I should be heading out."

"Thanks for coming Maddie, you really saved our butts." Angela said, giving me a hug.

"Yeah, feel free to call if you ever need backup. I got some friends if you need them too," I started "but they're a bit new so maybe later." I explained. I got onto my Hoverbike. "Don't be strangers." I said, pulling up my hood.

"Same goes for you." Eli said. I nodded and powered up my bike racing away.

Tompkins House (Maddie's POV)-

I had stopped at my Lair to change and shower before going home. I was walking back towards the house, when my phone pinged. I opened it to look at the new text.

Chase

Hey we finished the mission and we're back at home. Everyone is safe.

Maddie

Thanks for keeping me in the loop. Everything is sorted out with my family, I'll see you tomorrow.

I was glad to hear it all went well and got to my front door, unlocking it before going inside. My mom and dad were sitting on the couch waiting for me. I could've sworn my heart stopped right then and there. It was rare to see my parents home, especially both at once. Both wearing upset looks.

"Hey mom, dad. How are you?" I asked sheepishly, making myself as small as possible.

"Where have you been Maddison? We know that you don't come home every night." My mom explained with a frown.

"I uh, I have been helping out Mr. Davenport with a big project. Any night that I haven't come home I stayed there." I lied quickly.

"Why couldn't you tell us that?" She asked.

"I'm sorry but with you guys never being here I didn't really have the chance to." I explained.

"Honey you know we have to focus on the company. All the work that we do is for you." Dad explained. "One day you're gonna take over-" he started.

"Did it ever occur to you that I wouldn't want to run your stupid financial company." I interrupted.

"You do not speak to your father like that." My mother chastised.

"No you two don't even know what I like to do. Do you know what I do with Mr. Davenport? I'm his lab assistant. I love science and that's what I want to do." I explained.

"She's right dear. Maddie we're sorry that we aren't always here for you and if you don't want to run the company that's fine. We just want you to be safe so that means coming home at night and letting us know when you go out." I stood there in disbelief. My father was usually not one to put what other people wanted first, the fact that he was saying I could pursue what I want to do was insane.

"Are you serious?" I asked.

"Yes. We do care about you and if this is what you want to do we'll support you." He explained.

"Now go to bed, it's late." My mom got up and gave me a kiss on the head. "Goodnight honey."

"Night mom, night dad." I gave them each a hug and left for my room, still in shock.

March 21st Davenport House (Bree's POV)-

"Hey guys. So, how was the mission?" Maddie asked, walking into the house before school, coffee in hand.

"Well Leo was a stowaway who almost cause the destruction of Welkerville." I started.

"But I also saved the day." Leo explained coming over from the kitchen. "These guys totally needed me." Leo said pointing to Me, Adam, and Chase on the couch.

"Yeah by almost killing us again." Chase said from his spot on the couch. Maddie moved to sit next to him. Hmm, I wonder when those two are gonna do something about their feelings.

"Guys you need to leave for school." Tasha said coming into the kitchen. "Go, go, go!" We all grabbed our bags and ran out the door for school. Maddie being so tired, she had to be pushed by Chase.
