The Recovery:
Carey's Hospital Room:
Nearly two weeks had gone by after Carey was rescued. She had been taken out of her medically induced coma a week after her surgeries were over. Now they were waiting for her to wake up, to tell them why Joshua had taken her in the first place. It was hard for them to see her the way she was. They had grown to care for her while she was a rookie who seemed to know more than they did about the legal system. During the time that she had been missing, they had scoured through the file of her serial killer father and now understood why she had changed her last name. She never wanted to be associated with him ever again. As far as anyone knew, her father was still in jail and there was no way that Joshua would have gone to see him.
Andy and Sam were sitting with her now, part of the 'be with Carey as much as possible' watch. It was easier to sit with her now than it had been when she still had all the tubes sticking out of her and the intubation tube down her throat. She was starting to look more like the Carey they all knew. Sam was drifting off, having just gotten off of work with Andy, when Carey started waking up. Andy noticed the movements and was up by her bed almost immediately which woke Sam up as well who said he was going to get the doctor and rushed out.
A few minutes later, Dr. Samuels walked in with Sam and over to Carey's bedside. He coaxed her fully awake within a few minutes. She blinked a few times before her gaze landed on Andy and Sam and she seemed to relax a little. She was safe and she didn't have to worry about anyone else coming after her. She smiled as the doctor shooed them out of the room so he could exam her. She was awake and at the moment in one piece. Now all they had to do was keep her that way until the trial date.
