New Friend

Chapter Six

Alia was back in the Astronomy tower, looking at the box holding all the memory's of her parents. She noticed some pictures with her "parents" had a huge gap in the middle, she wondered if she was once what filed that empty spot.

She shut the book and for once, Alia wasn't crying, she was proud of that. She had cried so much to the point where she couldn't breathe, to the point she couldn't let out any words. Her mind wandered back to the day she was found in the bathroom, all the mirrors had been broken and she didn't know why. She hated never knowing why...never getting an answer, for being left out of things.

She got up from the floor patting herself down making her way towards the railing, looking out onto the sun set. She's never felt so relaxed and she felt guilty for doing so, but she's never had the chance to until now...she could finally breathe.

"I had a feeling you'd be here"

She looked over her shoulder to see Wystan making his way towards her. She looked back at the sun letting him join her. Wystan stood next to her admiring the view, He smiled to himself knowing there was a change in the air, a good one where she was able to let loose and he couldn't have been more happy for her.

He started to think about what could have possibly made her be able to let go, until he thought about what happened last night, the only reason was because she couldn't remember her parents. That didn't mean she was okay, but the loss of her parents was her main problem. Not anymore.

How could I forget...god am I stupid he thought

"How are you er...feeling?"

She came to terms with not being able to remember her parents. She was feeling-

"Fine"

Her hair was getting in her face, she was about to put it up but then Wystan grabbed her hair tie from her.

"Let me"

She hoped he didn't see the blush that was forming on her face, she smiled to herself. He grabbed all of her hair including the ones that kept hitting her face, he tied it all back in a low ponytail. "There we go" he was debating if he should say the next words that were in his head, just say it. "I like your hair up...it lets me see you more". Taken back by his words her eyes were wide, she opened her mouth to say something but it just closed, she turned away smirking.

He looked away from her embarrassed, he shut his eyes tightly cursing himself. Oh god I should have not said that...i DEFINITELY should have not-

"thank you..." he opened his eyes and looked at her "perhaps I will keep it up more then". He turned away, now it was his turn to blush, he had the biggest smile on his face. She bit the inside of her cheek trying to hold back her laugh, of course she failed to do so, now she was laughing out loud.

Wystan looked at her, admiring her laugh. It was the most angelic thing he has ever heard, he couldn't help but laugh along with her. That was one of his favorite things about her, her laugh...and he was willing to listen to it all day if he could.

He missed seeing her like this, and he couldn't help but smile thinking this was all because of him. He got to see her smile and laugh because of him, he could be jumping out of excitement right now.

She sighed still smiling, she's never felt so...happy before. She thought that she wasn't able to feel such emotion again, but boy was she wrong.

"no ones ever made me laugh the way you do"

His was surprised, if his face wasn't red enough before, then it sure was now. Seeing him blush made her think maybe he does feel the same way after all...or he could just be blushing.

"You sure do know how to make a boy feel special"

"wanna know the secret?"

"mhm...does it work on you?"

She hit his arm playfully

"Oh stop."

They laughed once more before going back downstairs to the great hall for dinner. They continued talking the whole way there, they sat next to each other. The rest of their friends looked at them with wide eyes and a smile, they came in alone...together and their friends couldn't have been more happy.

~

The Headmistress sat up ready to announce some news. Everyone became silent waiting for what she had to say. "Now we know things haven't been very bright after such-" McGonagall was hesitant on what to say next "-terrible circumstances?...we thought in order to have such happiness like we did before...we'd be happy to announce that there will be a Halloween dance!-" everyone was talking now, we hadn't had a dance for so long everyone was thrilled, including Alia herself.

"-the dance is for 4th years and up, while we will have another activity for 3rd years and below...now settled down please! Thank you. Yes, now be ready ladies and gentlemen to be asked to such!!...now don't be shy! Everyone enjoy the feast!" The table was now filled with foods and drinks that had Everyone's mouth water, everyone was in a good mood...well not everyone. Draco was not so thrilled about the dance unlike his friends.

"Oh come on live a little! This will be great for all of us-"

"-did you forget we're slytherins? no one will want us there-"

"-who cares what other people think Theo!" Said Pansy

Theo waved a hand at Pansy dismissing their conversation, she responded by rolling her eyes and going back to her food.

"what did McGonagall want with you last night?" Theo took a sip of his pumpkin juice waiting for Draco to respond.

"nothing...not my story to tell anyways-"

"-What do you mean?" Pansy now joined in on their conversation. "I mean that it's none of yours or my business-" Theo's left eyebrow lifted up "-you were there though?"

Draco rolled his eyes and sighed at his nosy friends "just because I was there doesn't mean anything-" pansy scoffed at his response. "What?" He turned to look at her "oh nothing just that it does! You know what's up why not just tell us-"

"Maybe I don't want to" he dropped his fork now crossing his arms

Blaise tried to hold back his laugh but couldn't because Theo had let out his "what's so funny?" This caused the boys to laugh even more "oh...oh now don't make me start crying."

Pansy was now confused "hey! I wanna laugh." Draco looked at her annoyed "what? Can't a girl laugh with her friends."

"Y-yeah let her laugh" Blaise was now wiping his tears away. Draco was so confused as he looked at the two boys still trying to figure out why they had just lost it.

"You still act like a child!" said Theo

Draco was offended by his friends words that his mouth was in a "o" shape. "I do not!-"

"Yeah you uh kinda do" said Pansy she turned away while taking a sip of her pumpkin juice, trying to hold in her laugh at his reaction.

"Okay now you're all just picking on me" Draco still had his arms crossed over his chest "here comes the choo-choo train" Theo tried to feed Draco like a baby but he had smacked his hand away, sending the fork flying out of Theo's hands and hitting the floor. This caused all of his friends to laugh, Pansy who still had the cup in her mouth spit in it making it fly all over, Blaise and Theo were now banging the table laughing like crazy. Draco couldn't help but laugh along with them, everyone around them looked at the four with disgust and scooted away not wanting food to fly at them.

"not so lady like now huh- ow" Pansy threw her biscuit at Blaises head now taking a bite of her fruit. "My parents aren't around so I could care less! Hm." Draco was laughing at Blaise "yeah yeah alright...so we going to this dance or not."

"Pass, I'm staying in the common room drinking instead of getting caught sneaking in the firewisky-"

"Oh please you're coming anyways INCLUDING the two of you" Pansy waved her finger at Blaise and Draco

"Oh hell no-"

"Blaise! You have to go you're my dance partner remember?"

"Yeah alright...but only if Draco goes-"

"dude what the fuck" Blaise put up his hands in defense. "I'm not going with the drunk and the one that party's until they die drunk! I'm gonna need help and that's you so you're coming." Draco just signed nodding his head not wanting to argue anymore.

"Thank you"

"Yeah whatever"

———————————————————————————

Alia knocked on the headmistress door after getting sent a letter to join her for tea. "Come in!" She entered seeing a whole tea set ready by the fire on McGonagall's table. "You got a new set?" Alia looked at her Professors new tea set, it was white with roses along with a gold stripe at the top and bottom, the tea cups had the same design. "Yes I did, you're the first to have noticed." Alia took her seat in front of McGonagall "well I do have tea with you quite a lot actually." The professor smiled while pouring their tea "I suppose you do." It was quiet for awhile before Alia spoke again.

"Not to be rude Professor but-"

"—You're wondering why I had asked you to come here?" McGonagall said taking a sip of her tea

"um yes actually"

McGonagall set down her tea and sat more straight. She looked into Alia's eyes. Alia saw the pitying expression on her Professors face and she looked away, she had a feeling McGonagall was gonna bring up the situation from last night.

"Alia, the thing you did is not the way to heal-"

"—is this what you brought me for! to make me feel guilty! okay I already do and I can't take it back-"

"—you can and I'll help you-"

"—help me? you don't mean-"

"—I do...and I'm sorry but I can not just let you do this! forgetting won't help you heal, I want you to remember them while being able to look back on those memories with a smile. Alia please I can't let you forget them-"

"—they're the ones who suggested that! not me-"

"I know...and I'm sorry."

McGonagall pointed her wand at Alia before saying the incantation. All the memories that were lost came back all at once, the memory she had when playing her parents the piano for the school talent show, she had gotten first place. The moment she first learned how to ride a bike and she could hear her father yell with joy. Every single one including ones she couldn't even recall happening. And then the one memory she tried to keep closest to her, the waves crashing, the sand and trying to remember the feeling of it, and her parents running after her and laughing. She held that one close to her once again before she was back in the familiar office, the fire cracking softly. All at once every single emotion that once faded away was back, guilt, hurt, distraught, every single one. Any happy feeling she felt before were gone, Alia was back and she couldn't have been more upset that she was.

"What did you do..."

"I did what was best, what was right-"

"—no! I finally felt okay and you took that away from me!" Tears were spilling out of her eyes, her throat was burning, head pounding. Suddenly she could barely breathe.

"Alia you'll get that feeling again, I promise-"

"—when...when will I feel it again." her voice braking

"I don't know."

she put her hands on her face letting out cries, all the emotions caught her off guard. She was having trouble calming down. She backed away, hitting a wall, then slowly fallen down to the floor. She clutched her forehead, she was visibly shaking and her chest was in pain.

"Oh dear, Alia honey look at me" McGonagall had approached her, she took Aila's hands off of her face and brought up her own to cup her face. Alia didn't like to be touched or held when feeling like this, but she couldn't speak so she reacted with her hands, trying to push her away. "Alia let me help you, stop it!"

"n-n-no! g-get away! from m-ME" she was fighting McGonagall's hands, prying them away.

"GET AWAY LET GO" she was able to get fight her off. "Alia I just want to help you." She looked at the girl with guilt, "I think you helped e-enough." She didn't back down though, the professor had turned around thinking of what to do in order to help her.

when she turned back around, she was gone.

———————————————————————————

Alia had calmed down a bit while her Professors was thinking of a way to help, she had taken quite some time that Alia was able to leave without being noticed. She was walking in the corredor's thinking about all that she remembered of her parents, she wanted to visit them but she couldn't, not until tomorrow. She couldn't wait any longer, she needed a distraction.

She heard noises coming from one of the classrooms, it was dark and unused. She looked around seeing if anyone was near, when no one was around she approached the door cautiously, not wanting any trouble. The door had been left ajar, so she took a peek through the crack and saw what looked to be Blaise Zabini, sitting on one of the desks drinking from a glass bottle.

She heard McGonagall's voice from down the hall, Alia panicked and quickly let herself in and closed the door softly, not wanting McGonagall to know where she was. She sighed and let her head rest against the door, she heard a chair behind her being dragged against the floor slightly, she cursed under her breath.

"what the hell are you doing in here?"

She turned around slowly watching his face, he looked annoyed and surprised by her.

"I'm hiding from someone"

"Oh really?" He lifted his eyebrows "and who are you hiding from?"

"McGonagall...she er...actually you don't need to know why"

"is that so? Mhm so you don't mind me calling her over here then? I have some things I wanna discuss with her-"

"no! don't do that...besides you'll just end up getting yourself in trouble with that" she pointed at the bottle he had between his lips, taking a quick small mouthful of it.

"I suppose you're right...care to join me" he handed her the glass, she looked at it silently debating whether she should.

"I don't know-"

"it's not like it's poisoned"

"Fine, alright"

He sent her a smirk, she was now in front of him. She took the bottle taking a drink, the burning feeling caught her off guard. She hadn't had firewisky in ages.

"Eh god that was-"

"first time?" He looked at her taking the glass back, backing up to take a seat on the table, she joined him shaking her head.

"No, it's just been awhile." He nodded his head in understanding, he felt off to her. He's never been kind to her in anyway and she considered this moment to be the first and possibly last time.

"I act differently when I do stuff like this." he raised the drink

"I can tell...it's not a bad different." She looked at him and smiled he happily returned it. They stayed and talked for awhile, getting to know one another, asking questions and having a good time. She needed this and he did too.

"We actually have quite a lot in common." he managed to get out while laughing. "I guess we do, who knew that a Gryffindor and Slytherin could be so alike." He looked down at the floor while smiling "you know we can break that rule..." she looked at him with her eyebrows coming together, he looked back up seeing her confused expression, he went on.

"about Gryffindors and Slytherins not allowed to be friends with one another, enemies or whatever they call it. You're actually not all that bad." She scoffed while playfully punching his shoulder.

"Wow thanks, I guess you're not all that bad yourself." he rolled his eyes at her words

"does this mean we're friends?" She asked generally wanting to know, she wouldn't have minded being friends with him.

"I don't know? Do you want to be?" He looked into her eyes trying to read her

She cocked her head to the side with a smirk on her lips "I don't mind. The real question here is do you?" He held eye contact to see if there was any sign of her lying, but he only saw a glow in her eyes that told him she was telling the truth.

"I wouldn't mind, but you gotta stop with all that stuff you have against my other friends." He broke the eye contact and pushed himself off the desk. She took the opportunity to roll her eyes behind his back."As long as your friends don't start anything, but I can't promise you anything." She crossed her arms over her chest.

"I'll tell them something...but I can't promise you anything." He smiled at her one last time

"I've gotta go, I'll see you around." He got all his belongings. He saluted her and then walked out of the dark classroom, leaving her alone. Alia was happy she made a new friend but she was surprised that it wasn't just any friend, it was Blaise Zabini a Slytherin. He's supposed to be her rival, but she would change that. They will Together.

———————————————————————————

Alia was walking towards the great hall for breakfast, it was finally the weekend and she made a plan to visit some people very special to her.

There was a group of Slytherins leaning on the wall right next to the entrance of the great hall, she recognized the group immediately. She saw her new friend talking to them, she was nervous, she didn't know how he would react to seeing her. She asked herself if she should say something to him or even look at him.

She was near them, she didn't really know where to look but she looked at him, they all heard her footsteps and turned to look at her. She made eye contact with Blaise, he smiled at her and nodded his head. She quickly smiled back at him and copied his movement before going into the great hall getting breakfast. She was proud of herself and she wanted to tell her friends about her new friendship, she didn't want to admit it to herself but secretly she was afraid of their reaction and how they would feel about this new friendship.

She pushed all the negative thoughts to the back of her head and sat with her friends, before they could all say a quick 'good morning' she told them the news.

"I made a new friend." They were all taken a back by her words "t-that's great? Who's your new friend?" Jenna asked. "It's um-" she looked at them all carefully before continuing "— its Blaise." Cole dropped his fork, Sior choked on his drink, and the others had wide eyes. Jenna was hitting Sior's back from coughing too much.

"I'm sorry did you say Blaise...as in Blaise Zabini?" Sonya said, she looked at the rest of her friends for their reaction. "Yeah, we talked last night-" Wystan interrupted her "what did you guys do last night?" He looked at her with one raised eyebrow while tilting his head.

"we just talked and...yeah that's pretty much it."

"That's it? wow didn't know it was so easy to make amends with a Slytherin-" Cole said

"—just because he's a Slytherin doesn't mean-"

"—no because he is a Slytherin! and you need to be careful, don't wanna go making friends with the wrong sort-"

"—okay just quit it will you! you'll all just have to accept that he's my friend and that he's a Slytherin, I want you guys to get along-"

"Get along! How daft are you?-"

"—excuse me!?" Alia got up from her seat sending daggers in Sior's direction, she never expected one of her friends to say something like that to her especially Sior, he was a sweet boy and it wasn't the rudest thing ever said to her but she was hurt and angry.

"I mean he's right...Gryffindors and Slytherins just don't work."

"Well you're wrong, not all Slytherins are bad like they're made out to be! I realized that yesterday. And I guess I was wrong about Gryffindors to, apparently they can be assholes." She stalked out off the great hall too angry at her friends and at herself.

How could I have been so blind! Stupid stereotypes

One person can change everything, he changed her thoughts about Slytherins and she was willing to give them a chance if they were all like Blaise. Even if her friends didn't agree on that, she didn't care what they would think of her. She didn't care at all.

———————————————————————————

She knocked on her headmistresses door waiting for the signal to be let in, she had been waiting for this moment for what seemed like forever.

She heard the door unlocked and she took that as a sign to step in. McGanagall was standing near her desk, dusting off her robes.

"Ready to go?" She looked at Alia carefully to see if she was okay

"I think so" her Professor nodded and held out her hand for Alia to take, McGanagall held her close and before she knew it everything around her was sucked in and she was lifted off the ground. In a blink of an eye her feet were back on the ground and everything was no longer spinning, it was all clear but her surroundings changed.

They were at a cemetery, the cemetery her parents were buried, she hoped her friends would have joined her but there was a change of plans. They quickly found the two tombstones that had her parents names.

Diana Wilson

1960-1998

A loving and caring Mother and Wife

Alia traced her mother's name kneeling between the two tombstones, she looked at her fathers stone and repeated the same thing, tracing his name.

Darius Wilson

1960-1998

A loving and caring Husband and Father

She hadn't realized she had been crying until someone handed her a hankerchief she looked up to see who had handed her the piece of fabric, to her surprise it was Blaise. She looked back at her Professor with question but saw the rest of his friends. She was confused and looked back at the boy besides her.

"We're did she go?"

"She had something come up back at the school and we happened to pass by her office, and well now we're here."

She nodded and tried to smile at him but failed miserably by crying more, this was not how she wanted to be seen after just becoming friends with him.

She felt hurt that her new friend was the one to be here instead of the ones she's known for years, she didn't mind his presence but it hurt even more that people she didn't really know or like were there and not a single one of her best friends were. She had told McGonagall to send a letter to them but I guess they had forgotten.

"are they-"

"—my parents...I didn't get to attend their funeral, I missed everything and I haven't even visited them until now."

She heard the group of Slytherins move uncomfortably behind her

"I'm a bad daughter and friend...I've disappointed them." She blew her noise with the hankerchief Blaise had handed her earlier. She laughed remembering she was no longer a daughter of anyone "or should I say was...my parents are dead, I'm no one's daughter." She looked at Blaise and managed to successfully smile at him, he didn'thave an expression on his face, she figured he didn't know how to feel or what to say.

He got up and looked down at her, he held a hand out for her to take, she kindly took his hand letting her stand up. She brushed off any dirt that was collected from sitting on the ground, she looked at her parents grave one last time before walking up to the rest of the group.

There stood Pansy Parkinson, Theodore Nott, and Draco Malfoy. She didn't expect to see him their, she looked at them and to her surprise did a little polite nod, she didn't want to start anything and she was hoping they wouldn't say anything.

"can you guys not mention this to anyone, I don't want my friends to hear that I went without them-"

"— we won't, why aren't your friends here?" Theo said, Blaise shook his head at the boy in front of them behind Alia trying to stop him from saying anything stupid but his words were out before he could stop himself.

"They sorta forgot...I think"

"You've got some shitty friends then-"

"Theo!" Blaise and Pansy said in sync, Pansy smacked his arm making him grasp it and mouth the word 'ow' to her. Alia shook her head "no they're great friends it's just we got in a fight this morning and-"

"Just because you got into a fight they're not here! Wow you really do have shitty friends- what? uh okay okay I take it back! Happy Blaise?"

"You don't- never mind"

"Sorry but I'm gonna have to agree with Theo on that one, you need your friends more than anything right now and they wanna be a little bi- uh I mean rude?...and decide not to come? You shouldn't have friends like that. Real friends will push aside the little argument to come and stand by your side during something like this." Pansy said

Did they forget or did they truly just not want to come?

They were making Alia overthink about her fight with her friends. Did they really not want me to be friends with Blaise? Is this why they didn't come? She's never felt so hurt and betrayed by someone so close.

"Okayyyy now lets stop talking about her friends, you're making her question her whole friendship."

"Good" mumbled Theo

"Uh quick question, how the hell are we supposed to get back!" Theo said with slight panic in his voice

"Uh can't we just apparate or something?" asked Pansy

"No, Hogwarts has an anti-apparate enchantment in place." Alia replied

"I thought that was taken off?"

"It was just for a little while, but the headmistress put it back up. Only the staff can disapparate and apparate inside of Hogwarts."

Theo threw his hands up in the air in defeat "great now what! She leaves us here and expects us to go back to school...She's bloody brilliant!"

"CURSE YOU PROFESSOR!!!"

"THEO! shut up will you! We'll figure this out...some how."

"Maybe we can send her a letter?" asked Pansy

"Great idea! You've got your owl?"

"Well no-"

"We're screwed! she's gonna forget about us!"

"Why don't we just apparate into Hogsmeade?" asked Alia

"Oh that's right we could do that."

They all grabbed each other and disapparate and apparated into Hogsmeade, Alia showed them a secret passage to get into Hogwarts that she knew about, they surprisingly didn't question her about it.

"okay we'll go our separate ways now." Alia watched as the group of Slytherins walked away from her, she made a mental note to try and be a little bit nicer to them. Only for hers and Blaises sake.
