Chapter 6
LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT-SPECIAL VICTIM'S UNIT
Clark exited the elevator and a female officer approached him.
"Sergeant Maxwell Clark?" the officer asked.
"Yes," Clark replied.
"Sergeant Amelia Herald," the officer said. "Thank you so much for coming. Your assistance is deeply appreciated. Follow me."
Clark followed Herald down the hallway and into the office area.
"Wow," Clark said looking around. "This place is neat."
"Thank you," Herald replied. "We just went through a remodel. I hear the Long Beach division is about to undergo a remodel as well."
"Yes," Clark said. "If this is what it is going to look like, I can't wait."
Clark and Herald entered Herald's office. Herald closed the door and sat at her desk.
"Have a seat," Herald said.
Clark sat at the desk.
"So last night, a woman was attacked in her home by a man under that assumed name Frederick Boston," Herald said. "He attempted to rape her, but her best friend was also in the home and pepper sprayed him. He then fled. However, the friend of the victim was able to take a screenshot of the assailant's dating profile before it was taken down. We matched it with the sketch from the Long Beach Division."
Herald showed Clark the screenshot.
"That is definitely the same man," Clark said.
"I feel it is necessary for our teams work together on this case," Herald said.
"I agree," Clark said.
AMBER'S HOME
Clark and Herald stood in the living room while Amber and Carol sat on the couch. Clark and Herald handed the sketch and the picture to them.
"That's is him," Amber said. "I recognize the eyes."
"This man raped a 17-year-old?" Carol asked.
"Yes," Clark replied.
Carol broke down crying.
"I am so stupid," Carol sobbed. "I shouldn't have set up my best friend with someone online. This is all my fault."
"Carol," Amber said. "This isn't your fault. You were just trying to be a good friend and set me up with a nice guy."
"Don't worry," Clark said. "We are going to do everything we can to catch this guy."
