Pokémon Crimson Gold
Chapter 6: To catch a Pokémon
Ethan and Chikorita, now accompanied by a mysterious egg that will hatch, had wondered their way through the woods for the past day with nothing to eat, both him and Chikorita.
"Darn it, I really should have brought a town map with me before trying to make my way to Violet city, I'm such an idiot." Ethan said, hungry as could be.
"Chika Chika," Chikorita said, trying to cheer up Ethan, even though she was just as tired.
The two heard a rustling in the bushes before them, Ethan instantly knew what it was.
"Another wild Rattata, Chikorita, use Razor Leaf," Ethan said, bored out of his mind. This would be the tenth wild Pokémon he encountered today.
Chikorita sent the Leafs, in the direction of the bushes, it was then when he heard a crackling sound, and the leaves began to dissipate.
"Wow! That's new!" Ethan exclaimed, surprised. "What could it be?"
The bushes rustled once again; it was then when the mysterious presence revealed itself.
A wild Mareep leapt from the bush. It had a beautiful white coat of fur, and instantly took Ethan by storm.
"Woah, Mareep." Ethan said, mesmerized, he took out his Pokédex and began to scan it.
"Mareep, the Wool Pokémon. If static electricity builds in its body, its fleece doubles in volume. Touching it will shock you."
"That's so cool! I want it!" Ethan said, pulling out a Pokéball.
Mareep formed a battle-ready stance, it was time to throw down.
"Chikorita, let's begin with tackle!" Ethan announced.
As Chikorita began to charge, Mareep built up electricity, and zapped Chikorita, causing her to fall to the ground.
"Oh no, are you okay, Chikorita!" Ethan cried.
Chikorita got up, that electricity wasn't so bad. "Chika Chikorita!"
"Good, now let's stay back and drop its attack, Chikorita! Growl let's go!"
Chikorita proceeded to drop Mareep's attack, and once Ethan felt comfortable, he had Chikorita go in for a tackle.
Chikorita went in and smashed her body into the Mareep, knocking the poor sheep Pokémon back, it was still ready to battle, however. Its body was surrounded by electricity.
"Awesome! Let's finish this Chikorita, now use Razor Leaf, once more!" Ethan yelled happily.
It was then when he noticed, Chikorita was shaking, and could hardly move, she was stuck in place, Mareep's electricity caused her to get stuck in place.
"It's Mareep's ability, static." A new voice had announced from behind Ethan.
Ethan turned around to see a tall young man. He looked to be in at least his early twenties. He had long blue hair which covered his right eye, he wore a white sash, indigo shorts, and a pair of black wristbands with red outlines. The man walked up and approached Ethan, which caused Mareep to flee.
"Hey, I'm guessing you're a new trainer, am I right?" He questioned Ethan, who was more disappointed that the Mareep ran off.
"Oh, me, yeah. I'm Ethan. Came all the way from New Bark Town." Ethan responded casually.
"Saw you trying to catch that Mareep, I can tell you're smart, but you could do better in some areas." He said, putting his hand on Ethan's shoulder. "There are more ways to catch Pokémon kid, here I'll show you."
Falkner walked up to the bush which the Mareep ran up to. "Don't worry, I don't want to battle you, I'm a friend." He said, wanting to earn the Mareep's trust. He pulled out a few berries from his pocket. "If I try anything, feel free to zap me with your thunder shock."
"What are those,?" Ethan asked.
"Pecha berries, there typically used to cure poison, but they also make a wonderful snack." The stranger said.
Mareep peeked its head from the bushes, slowly approaching the strange man.
It finally approached the man's hand, taking a bite out of the Pecha berry.
"Mareep!" it said, gleefully, it bit the berry and took it with itself as it ran off.
"It's slower, but it's how you build a connection, even before you catch it." The blue haired man said.
"T-that was really cool, I wish I could be like that, who are you anyway?" Ethan asked.
"I'm just a trainer, like you. I have to go now, but I hope you have luck in befriending that Pokémon, but before I go." He kneeled next to Chikorita, and held out another berry, to which surprised the paralyzed Chikorita.
"Eat up, I promise you'll feel better," He said.
Chikorita took a nibble out of the berry, and suddenly began to feel a lot better.
"That was a Cheri berry, you can find some around this forest, and in Pokémarts for that matter." He said to Ethan.
"Thanks for healing up my Chikorita, now that I think of it, I did here of certain berries that had that kind of effect back in grade school." Ethan said, reminiscing.
"Well, if you want to become a great trainer. I'm sure we'll cross paths again, maybe even sooner than you think." He said, smiling, he began to take his leave. "Later."
"That guy was awesome, huh, Chikorita." Ethan said.
"Chika, Chika!" Chikorita said, feeling fully healthy again.
"Alright! Let's go back and find that Mareep!"
You can probably tell who the blue haired guy was Ethan met I'd bet, be seeing him again real soon.
