Chapter Six
'Thawn! Don't… Don't do this!' Thawn is holding Caitlin by the throat over the edge of a tall building. '...Now do you see Flash, you can't beat me. I am always one step ahead…' Barry awoke from the nightmare with his hand in the air vibrating ready to attack. Caitlin reached for his hand, Barry flinched his whole body on high alert. Caitlin pulled Barry back down to cuddle him, to let him know that she was there for him.
"You want to tell me about it?" Caitlin resting her head on Barry's bare chest.
"It's...nothing..just a nightmare I haven't had in awhile." Barry, now realizing he was super sweaty, got up to put on a shirt. Caitlin looked at the clock to see it was 8:30 then got up to grab clothes and shower.
"Wake up the girls please, and make some breakfast. Oh and we're not done, you're telling me about that nightmare later." As Caitlin went to shower Barry got changed and went to wake up Kara and Alex. Alex's room was the closest so she was going to be the first.
When Barry tried to open the door it was locked, Barry not liking locked doors phased through. When inside he saw that the bed was empty, he looked around the room and noticed that she was in the closet.
Barry knelt down by Alex and shook her awake. Alex always had to be alert for a long time and tried to stab Barry with a kitchen knife when she got woken up. Barry used his speed and dodged the attack and grabbed the knife from her hand.
"Alex, It's Barry! It's me, you're safe…" Alex sofend and hugged Barry tightly, crying a little. "Alex, can I ask why you have a kitchen knife, and why you're sleeping in the closet?"
Alex is a bit embarrassed and ashamed that she almost stabbed her new legal guardian. "I...I'm sorry."
"It's ok, nobody got hurt. But do you think you could answer my questions?" Barry asked, a bit worried for Alex.
Alex took a deep breath before answering. "W...when I was fourteen...I was adopted and the family was nice and they had a son who was older than me. They were nice at first, but the son...one night he...he tried to um…" Alex started to cry again at the memory.
"Hey, hey it's ok, you don't have to finish. I get the gist of what happened. Just know that no one is ever going to try that again, I mean come on your new guardian's are superheroes. And I would hate to be the guy that suffers Frost's wrath." Barry joked, wiping away Alex's tears from her face.
"Now, after two years I still carry a knife to bed." Barry helped Alex out of the closet and onto the bed.
"It's understandable you would, but you're still only...sixteen?" Barry asked, Alex just nodded in agreement.
"Clearly height doesn't justify age." Barry said under his breath. "You're only sixteen, and carrying a knife to bed is a no from me, and don't get me started on what Cait would say if she found out...so this whole little ninja assassin thing that just happened stays between us ok?"
"Ok, but can I at least have a bat in my room?" Barry just smiled and agreed.
"Alright you get started on breakfast and I'll go wake up the birthday girl, how does that sound?"
"It's Kara's birthday today? I...I didn't want to intrude on her special day." Alex started apologizing like she was in trouble.
"You aren't Intruding, you and Kara are going to be sisters soon so you're family now."Barry said standing up to go and wake Kara up for breakfast.
"Oh, um I wanted to ask, why does Kara have two eye colors? Does she wear color contacts?" Alex asked as she was almost out of the room.
"Kara has complete heterochromia, it's a genetic mutation that causes someone to have two different eye colors, it's completely harmless." Alex, nodded in understanding and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
After breakfast, the little flash family moved to the living room where it was decorated with red and blue streamers and a yellow happy birthday banner. Kara sees four presents, two big and the other two small.
"When did you do all of this?" Alex asked, remembering that she didn't see it when she came to make breakfast.
"literally as we were walking in here" Barry brags
"Can I open them?" Kara asked in excitement.
"Yes sweetie, you can open them." Caitlin says sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee, Barry sits besides her, while Alex sits on a recliner.
Kara goes for the big ones first. "Barry you got her a gaming console?" Caitlin comments looking up at him.
Kara opens the other smaller medium rectangular box and sees a Tablet. "You're judging me about the xbox when you got her a tablet." Barry starts giggling. When Kara opens the other one from Barry she gets confused.
"It's a phone sweetie, it has everyones phone numbers in it." As Kara tries to figure out how it works, Barry hands Alex a present as well, but she waits till Kara is done opening her presents. Kara looks at the last present and sees that it's from Frost with a note attached to it.
'Happy birthday Kara, I'm sorry that the necklace that I made you melted so here's one that I'm sure that you'll love. I had your uncle Cisco make it for me, after I promised not to freeze him in ice… again.
Love your Aunt Frost.'
Kara opened the black box to see a snowflake necklace with a lighting bolt in the middle. On each end of the snowflake were small diamonds. Kara was so excited about the necklace she asked Caitlin to put it on her, as long as she lived she would never take off the necklace that her aunt Frost gave her.
"Alex why don't you open your gift?" Barry looked over to where she was sitting.
Alex opened her gift to see it was a phone. "You got me a phone?" she questioned holding the already opened box.
"Yes, I got you a phone. Do you not want it, because I could take it back if you don't want it?" Barry joked atempting to get up, but Caitlin stopped him with a smack to the chest.
"No I...I want it, it's just why are you giving me one now?" Alex asked, remembering some of the other foster families would wait until at least a month to give her one.
"Well, as you know I am the flash, and you're our new addition to the family. Also soon to be mine and Cait's oldest daughter, so when we need to get in contact with you or Kara you'll have a working phone. Also we'll be asking Cisco to add some upgrades to it as well."
Alex not hearing any of what Barry said after she's part of their family and that she's going to be their daughter started to cry
Alex ran to Barry and Caitlin giving them a massive hug, Kara joined after a few seconds but kept forgetting that she has super strength and hugged a bit too tight. "Kara, sweetie super strength remember." Caitlin patted Karas upper arm.
"Oh! Right...sorry mom, sorry dad, sorry Alex." Kara backed up and sat on the coffee table.
"God, does the metahuman gene randomize powers? I would have thought that she would have super speed or ice powers." Alex said rubbing the back of her neck.
"Oh she does have super speed, along with some other abilities." Caitlin answered
After a long explanation about Kara and where she came from, The Flash family got ready to go grocery shopping for the barbecue.
When they pulled into their own driveway, they found Joe, Wally, Cecile and baby Jenna waiting for them to arrive. Barry was the first one out of the car to greet his foster dad and brother. Joe notices a small teenager come out of Caitlins car with Kara right behind.
"Barr...?" Barry looked back at the older man. "Who's this?"
"Joe, Wally this Is Alex. She's going to be the newest member of our family." Alex, being nervous, stayed by Caitlins side.
"Alex, can you come here for a second?" Alex walked over to Barry kind of nervous.
"Alex I want you to meet my foster family Joe, Wally, Cecile and baby Jenna." Alex says hello to the West family, while Caitlin struggles with the groceries.
"Barry, do you think you could help with the bags?" Caitlin askes after almost dropping a bag.
"Wally, you game?" Barry askes with lightning speaking in his eyes. Wally and Barry speed all the groceries inside and then back to their previous position.
"One of these day's Barry! I swear I'm going to beat you." Wally pouted in defeat.
"Yeah, well until then what's my name?" Barry gloating triumphantly, walks in with the rest of the group.
Alex, not understanding what just happened, asked Caitlin. "Caitlin what was that all about?"
"A couple years ago when Wally got his powers, Wally here thought he was faster than my Barry." Cailin explained rufling Wally's hair.
"Thanks for the embarrassing reminder Caitlin." Wally rolled his eyes, opening the fridge looking for something to drink.
"Aww don't be sad wally, I should thank you, I won eighty bucks on that race."
"Well if it ain't my favorite niece." Cisco and Kamilla walked through the front door
Soon after eating the food Oliver and Felicity showed up just in time for the birthday cake. "Barry, Caitlin!" Barry and Caitlin turned to the voices to see Felicity and Oliver walking down the steps to the back porch with a big box wrapped in green wrapping paper, and a small gift bag. Barry grabbed the box and called Kara over to say hi to Oliver and Felicity.
"Aunt Felicity, Uncle Oliver!" Kara wrapped them in a tight hug
"You can call me uncle Olie." Oliver said to Kara and Barry looked so offended.
"It took me how many years to be able to call you that? And my daughter four days after meeting you… I..I have no idea how to feel right now." Barry felt really jealous of one of his daughters.
"Oh I want you two to meet the newest member of our family."Barry called Alex over who was still a bit shy about being there.
"Oliver, Felicity, I would like you to meet Alex." Oliver just stood there shocked, Barry just adopted Kara not that long ago.
"Alex, this is Oliver Queen, and Felicity Smoak. Oliver here is like my older brother."
Alex only shook Felicity's hand. "Y.. You're Felicity Smoak, CEO of Smoak technology. Your work on Advanced Robotics is..is revolutionary."
"Wow, looks like someone has a fan." Oliver jokes.
"Shut up, don't ruin this for me." Felicity smacked Oliver's chest.
"Do you mind if I have a picture with you?" Alex took out her phone half expecting to be rejected.
"Are you kidding me? Of course you can have a picture." Felicity grabbed the phone and took a couple selfies with alex.
Meanwhile as Alex was fangirling, Barry welcomed his friend from Star City. "So why did you guys decide to stay, you know besides Kara's Birthday?"
"Well we needed a break from the whole superheroing and me being the Mayor, Plus Felicity is the CEO of her own company now, we needed a breather." Oliver replied.
"That's understandable, I mean it's been relatively Quiet here in Central City for well… scents Kara got here actually." And as if on cue the meta human alert app went off.
"Barry robbery at the bank of Central city." Cisco informs Barry and Oliver.
"I got it don't worry Oliver, enjoy your vacation." Barry gives Oliver his signature smile then flashes off.
"Wally go back him up please I'd feel safer if someone was there to back him up." Caitlin askes Wally.
When Barry got there he saw the volt door was cut through like butter. Barry thought it felt very familiar, as Barry walked in he saw who was robbing the bank. "Dr. Light?" Dr. Light turned to see the flash.
"So you're the flash of this world. I need this money, don't try to stop me."
Barry remembered how this played out last time and wanted to see if he could have a different outcome. "Dr. Light I just want to talk ok that's all ok?" As soon as Light was about to retract her visor Wally sped in right next to Barry.
"This was a mistake.." and as last time Dr. Light flashed the room with a bright light.
"Wait no…" Wally had time to shield his eyes and was fine, Barry on the other hand did not.
"Barry..Barry!" Caitlin screamed through the coms.
"Guys we have a problem.."
