Chapter 6: Easter Saturday

Summary: A busy saturday with a run, some football games, and Easter fun activities.

Saturday morning Liam and Cormac head out for a long Saturday morning run before anyone else is up in the house. As they reach the 8 mile mark and while they wait at a traffic light, Cormac asks, "Do you mind if I run to Meredith's and you run home?"

"Go! You haven't seen her much this week," Liam says.

"Thanks son. I'll see you at your football game," Cormac replies thinking of the busy day ahead.

"It starts at 11. I've a ride, so you can just show up at the game," Liam replies as the light changes and they run across the street and then each turn separate directions.

"Will do. Great run this morning," Cormac replies. He loves when Liam comes out running with him and will miss him for so many reasons next year when he heads off to university.

Cormac does a few stretches in Meredith's backyard, noticing Link in the kitchen with a fussy Scout. He waves to Link who walks out onto the deck and asks, "Did you run here?"

"Liam and I did 8 miles before we split our routes. Is Meredith up?" he replies.

"No. Just this cranky guy," Link laughs knowing both Meredith and Amelia aren't much for mornings.

"What's up?" he asks, doing a quick visual assessment on the little guy, noticing the rosy cheeks and runny nose. Finishing his stretches he heads up the deck and towards the kitchen door.

"Just a mouthful of new teeth. He's getting all four upper incisors."

"Ouch! That doesn't sound fun," Cormac says rubbing his hand gently over Scout's rosy red cheeks. "I'm too warm from my run, but he feels warm."

"Don't worry, Doc! I've already dosed him. I was preparing a bottle to let Amelia sleep a little extra."

"Oh sleepless nights…," Cormac comments.

"Why don't you go see Mer. I'll feed the kids breakfast while you shower," Link says winking at Cormac assuming they would shower together. Link's comment makes Cormac blush as he quickly heads inside and upstairs.

Thankfully he doesn't run into any of Meredith's kids, he slips into her room and ensures she's alone in her room before locking her door. He whispers and places a kiss on her lips, "Good morning sleepyhead."

"Morning…," she replies, opening her eyes, and blinking not sure what she's seeing, then reaching up to pull him towards her.

"I'm hitting the shower. Just ran 9 miles so not sure you want me in there," he replies.

"Mm-mmm, I'll join you," she says rolling up and off the bed.

Before they head downstairs, once they are both clean and dressed, she whispers, "I've missed you. This was a great wake up call."

"Will you come to my game too?" Bailey asks

"Yes Bay, I'll make it to the end of your game. I might not be there right at the beginning because I will be driving between fields."

"Are you sure?" he confirms.

"Yes, I'll definitely be there. Amelia is lending me her car so I can come," he says pulling Bailey into a hug.

"What about Liam and Austin?"

"Not today, all your games are too close together. Just like you can't watch Liam's game today because you'll be warming up," he reminds Bailey.

"Oh, OK," Bailey answers disappointedly.

"But they are coming to the hospital to help with the Easter Activities," Cormac says, gaining a smile from Meredith's son. The rest of the day is crazy, with 3 soccer/football games and the Easter Activities at the hospital. All 5 kids, Cormac and his dad hit the paediatric floor with their gifts joining the Interns with their special activities for the kids.

Cormac and his boys attend the Easter Vigil at St Anne's with his parents and then they drop Máiréad off before heading to Meredith's. The four Hayes men arrive after 11pm for their secret undercover "Easter Bunny" task, as they prefer the late night over the before sunrise hour the following morning at 6:45 AM.

They stealthily hid six different colours of eggs throughout the backyard, including some special gifts wrapped in easter themed packaging. Cormac is impressed and knows the kids will love the bubble wands, egg shaped sidewalk chalk, bags with colouring supplies, stuffed bunnies, and blocks for Scout. Cormac also hides a few special purple easter eggs for Meredith, and a few special items for Liam and Austin while hiding the younger kids gifts. Meredith had commented that she had never participated in an Easter Egg Hunt, so he had chosen a few small items for her to search for.
