Part Five
Axel stared at the dirty blonde lying on the floor as the raging flames began to die down around them, leaving smoldering patches in their wake. He stood there for a long moment before he slowly began to inch his way closer to Demyx's form on the floor. He however, was stopped by Roxas grabbing his arm, causing the fiery redhead to stop and turn to look at him. Roxas gave him a look that suggested something wasn't right. Axel looked at him for a long moment before turning to look back at Demyx, now wary of what may happen next.
It started softly at first, rising into that of raspy mad laughter as Demyx's body slowly began to rise up from the floor, an almost feral grin spreading across his face. The laughter grew louder as Not-Demyx made his way toward a horrified Roxas and Axel.
"You seriously thought.. Your little fire-trick would stop me?" said Xehanort. "You are a FOOL!"
Xehanort lunged at Axel, grabbing him by the throat, holding it in a death-grip. Axel cringed as he clawed at his assailant's hand, trying to loosen Xehanort's grip on his neck. However, Xehanort refused to release his hold as water began to form around his hand and began to travel up Axel's neck.
"Dem-!"
Axel's voice was cut off by a loud gurgle as the water rushed into his nose and mouth. Axel began to thrash as he struggled in Xehanort's grip.
"Demyx! Demyx STOP!" Roxas cried.
He grabbed his arm, to which Xehanort angrily shoved him to the ground.
"You will join his fate soon ENOUGH!"
Xehanort then turned to Axel again, grinning as he saw Axel's struggle beginning to weaken. Roxas could feel his eyes beginning to sting. As he felt a wetness on his cheeks, it was then he realized they were wet with tears.
"Demyx! I know you're IN THERE!" he shouted.
Xehanort's cruel smile only spread ever wider as Axel's body slowly became limp in his grasp.
"Demyx PLEASE!" Roxas begged, his voice noticeably cracking.
As the words left Roxas's mouth, his eyes grew wide as he saw Xehanort begin to shudder and he was hunched over, as if in pain. Xehanort's breathing became erratic and shaky as his arm trembled. He released his grip on Axel, who collapsed motionless onto the floor in a flow of water.
Wasting no time, Roxas hurried to his best friend's aid and knelt at his side.
"Axel!" he shook him gently. "Axel, wake UP!"
"Get.. Out.."
The strained voice caused Roxas to turn his attention back to Xehanort who was gripping at his head. Roxas blinked as he heard the voice again, his eyes going wide as the voice did not belong to Xehanort.
"Get.. OUT..!"
"D..Demyx?"
The dirty blonde turned to look at him, his eyes flashing between eerie gold and cyan blue.
"R..Roxas.."
Demyx's voice was strained.
"Roxas.. Get Axel o-"
He let out a choked noise as he doubled over in pain.
"Demyx!" Xion cried out.
She ran to his side, having hurried into the room after hearing the commotion. Demyx turned to look at her.
"X..Xio- GAHHH!"
Demyx gripped at his head as he felt Xehanort struggling to take back control.
"Demyx!" Xion shouted again.
"H.. He's t-taking control! Y-you guys have to g-"
An agonized scream tore from his throat as he gripped at his head.
"Demyx..."
Demyx froze at the strained voice and turned to see Axel slowly rising to his feet. Axel coughed as his body fought against the reintroduction to air.
"You.. Need to fight it.." Axel croaked.
"I.. C..can't.." Demyx grunted painfully, clenching his eyes shut.
"Demyx.."
Axel took hold of Demyx's hand, gripping it tight. Demyx looked up as his vision began to blur in and out of focus.
"We're WITH you."
Demyx's eyes went wide as a single tear slowly began to slip down his cheek. As the dirty blonde closed his eyes, he could feel the control over his body beginning to shift once again. Demyx gritted his teeth as he fought against Xehanort's control. Demyx turned his attention to the nearby shattered coffee table, which had been shattered to pieces from the blasts of fire and heat. His body shook as he took hold of the mostly molten shards and staggered to his feet. He could feel a tightness in his chest where the Darkness of Xehanort seemed to be the strongest. Demyx winced as the molten glass seared through his glove. He nonetheless tightened his grip and as he looked up.
"See you.. In another life.."
With those words, Demyx lifted the shard up and with what strength he had, plunged the shard deep into his chest. Demyx could hear a loud scream echoing through his head as pain washed over his entire body. Wisps of smoke began to leave Demyx's body as a substance so dark it appeared black seeped out from the gaping wound in his chest. The pain was excruciating but he nonetheless forced the shard deeper into his chest. His eyes slowly became their natural cyan color. A thin and tired smile soon spread across his face as he closed his eyes and he collapsed to the floor.
