Chapter 5
A few hours later, Ranger and Babe were back at Rangeman when Ranger got a call from Jameson."Jameson, what is going on now. I went to the Plums house and found a gun there, a small 38." Jameson said to Ranger
"Stephanie owns a small 38, Jameson. She was with me the whole time. She never left my penthouse. "
"Do you have proof," Jameson asked.
"Rangeman has videos in the hallway, so if she left, it would show up on the videos. I can send copies of the videos to the police lab now." Ranger told him.
"Good, I would do that, but I need to question her Ranger and bring your lawyer," Jameson said out loud, then hung up.
"Tank get all the security footage from my floor for the past two days. And get to the police lab," Ranger told him.
"Babe, you need to get up," Ranger said. He walked into the bedroom and found her unconscious.
A few minutes later, an ambulance came up to Ranger's penthouse; the EMTs worked on her and took her to Trenton Memorial Hospital.
Ranger got on the phone, "Jameson, Stephanie Plum is being taken to Trenton Memorial; she is unconscious. She is also pregnant, and I am the father. I will meet you there." Ranger hung up, He got on the phone with Ella, "I need you to come up and watch Julie for me." A few minutes later Ella used her key to come in. She saw the EMT's working on Stephanie. "Go I will take care of Julie" Ella said and she saw Ranger and Stephanie leave for the ER.
When Ranger got to the ER, "Stephanie Plum was brought here. I am her boyfriend and the father of the baby. "Ranger told the nurse.
Just then, Bobby came in, "Ranger."
"Bobby, please tell me she is all right," Ranger asked him
"She is still unconscious we took some blood and are waiting for the blood work to come back," Bobby him.
Just then he saw Jameson come in to the hospital. "How is she?"
"I don't know anything yet." Ranger sat down in a chair. "This makes no sense her gun is found at her parents' house. Now this happened to her something is seriously wrong," Jameson said out loud
"Ranger, you can sit with her so she isn't alone when she wakes up," Bobby said. Ranger went through the ER doors and went to sit with her.
Two hours later, Jameson got a call, "Hey Detective, it is the lab; we finished going through the Rangeman footage, and Stephanie Plum did not leave Rangeman until Ranger got the call about her father. She has an alibied out. She did not kill her father." The lab tech said.
Okay I will be over to the lab in a few minutes to verify this." Jameson told the lab tech and then left the hospital to clear Stephanie.
Ranger was sitting with her when she started to come around. "Babe," He said softly. "What happened, Ranger?" She asked, trying to shake the cobwebs out.
"You are okay; I 'm right here," Ranger told her softly.
"I came into the bedroom and found you unconscious," Ranger told her.
Stephanie tried to sit up.
"Easy Babe," Ranger told her.
About a half an hour later, Detective Jameson, knocked on Stephanie's hospital room door
"Stephanie I am sorry but I need to ask you some questions." He could tell that Ranger was not liking him right now.
"Does anyone have access to your gun" Jameson asked her.
"No, but I keep it in the cookie jar at my apartment, and Morelli knows how to pick the lock to my apartment," Stephanie said slowly.
"I will be right back, Babe," Ranger and Jameson walked out of her room and into the hallway
Jameson; she did not do this." Ranger snapped at him.
"I know the video from Rangeman proves it. But someone had access to her gun.
"Morelli picks the lock to her apartment," Jameson told him.
"I do too; when she does not answer her phone, I get worried about her, and I pick the lock to make sure she is all right," Ranger told him.
Jameson walked back into her room "Stephanie, can we enter your apartment to get the cookie jar. We might get some prints off of it. Maybe that way we can find out who took your gun," Jameson told her.
"Yeah, Ranger, have Tank go with him, please," Stephanie told him weakly.
"Tank meet Jameson at Stephanie's apartment. He is going to take the cookie jar." Ranger told him.
"Sure, Boss." Tank told him
"Stephanie, your blood work the first set of blood we took shows that you were poisoned. But the second set of blood said that it was clean now, so as long as you promise to take it easy. You can go home? We flushed the poison out what you were unconscious, by an IV, because it was a type of rat poision that is very easy to get. " Bobby said to them both.
"Is the baby all right?" Stephanie asked.
"The blood work did show that you still are pregnant, but we don't know if the poison did any damage to the baby. That is why I need you to take it easy and rest." Bobby told them.
"Thank you, Bobby," Ranger told him. Ranger shook hands with him.
"Babe, let's get you dressed, and we are going somewhere else for a while," Ranger told him
While this was going on, Tank and Jameson came up the elevator to Stephanie's floor. They walked up to her place and saw the door open. "Hello, Cupcake. I knew you would come here to try to get answers." Morelli said.
"Sorry, Morelli, I'm not a Cupcake," Tank said. Morelli turned around and saw Tank and Jameson. "Where is Cupcake?" Morelli said in shock as he stood up.
"She is in the hospital because someone poisoned her." Tank said.
"I have got to and check on her." Morelli started to run.
Jameson got up to him and said, "Turn around; you are under arrest for the murder of Frank Plum." Just then, they looked more closely at the man. "You look like Morelli, but you are not Joe Morelli" Jameson looked at Tank.
"What is going on?" Tank said.
"Not a clue," Jameson said. They brought the fake Morelli into the station.
"Wow, that looks like Morelli, but it's not. The eye color is different." Captain Peterson said.
Just then, Angie Morelli came in. I can't believe it after all these years, is that him."
"Mrs. Morelli, what is it?" Jameson asked her
" I was pregnant with twins, and my husband made me get rid of one of the boys. He said that we could not take care of them both. So when they were born, we put one up for adoption. Is this him the one I had to give up? If so, where is Joesph." Angie asked.
Tank got on his phone and called Ranger."
"Hey Tank, what do you have?" Ranger asked.
"Morelli had a twin that was given up when he was born. This guy took Morelli's place, we have him in custoday. Where is the real Joe Morelli" Tank told him.
"Carlos, what is it?" Stephanie asked.
"We just found out that Joe Morelli had a twin that was given up at birth by Angie Morelli." Stephanie's mouth dropped.
