18th June 1996
Harry stared in morbid curiosity as the veil in the middle of the room swayed slightly. There was a light, shimmering cloth-like structure in the middle of the archway which moved like water -like his invisibility cloak. He tightened the hold of his wand and the small bag of rations in his hand.
"Harry, let's go, okay?" said Hermione more forcefully.
"Okay," he said, but he did not move. He had just heard something. There were faint whispering, murmuring noises coming from the other side of the veil.
"What are you saying?" he said very loudly, so that the words echoed all around the surrounding stone benches.
"Nobody's talking, Harry!" said Hermione, now moving over to him.
"Someone's whispering behind there," he said, moving out of her reach and continuing to frown at the veil. "Is that you, Ron?"
"I'm here, mate," said Ron, appearing around the side of the archway.
"Can't anyone else hear it?" Harry demanded, for the whispering and murmuring was becoming louder; without really meaning to put it there, he found his foot was on the dais.
"I can hear them too," breathed Luna, joining them around the side of the archway and gazing at the swaying veil. "There are people in there!"
"What do you mean, 'in there?" demanded Hermione, jumping down from the bottom step and sounding much angrier than the occasion warranted. "There isn't any 'in there,' it's just an archway, there's no room for anybody to be there — Harry, stop it, come away —" She grabbed his arm and pulled, but he resisted.
"Harry, we are supposed to be here for Sirius!" she said in a high-pitched, strained voice.
Harry let his hand fall on the shimmering surface, completely mesmerized by the sight. Suddenly, he felt a sharp tug and snapped his attention away from the veil and to his friends, eyes were blown wide with panic. "Er- guys?"
"Harry!" Luna cried in concern as she grabbed hold of his other arm, pulling him towards her.
"Harry, what wrong?" Hermione asked unsurely, hand reaching towards him, but before he could make out anything coherent he was zipped into the veil with Luna not far behind.
.
Harry's eyes fluttered open, only for them to snap shut once more as a scream left his dry throat. He felt memories assault his vision, memories that weren't his -he did not doubt that.
..."Ma!" a little boy with bright green eyes and unruly black hair yells, "look what I can do!" he exclaims excitedly. His hand have little sparks flying from them as the little ring in his hand shines with power, floating not far from his reach. "That's amazing, sweetheart," the woman looking at him has dark brown hair that framed her face and in ringlets and onyx black eyes that sparkled with love and happiness. The little boy giggles happily at her agreement...
..."Mama!" the same little boy yelled, only this time, he's eleven. His mother turns to face him, with one of those muggle phones in her hands, "What is it, Darling?" she asks, worried. "I want to go to school," he states firmly; the phone falls from her hands as she stared at him, with something akin to horror. "Hadrian, you are a special boy," she pleaded, "You- you are nothing like the other kids your age. They'll take you away from me if they found out what you could do... please don't make me do this," Hadrian hesitated...
..."Mother!" This time, the fifteen-year-old boy's voice is one of steal. He smiles tightly at his mother, who turns to him expectantly, "What is the meaning of this?" He all but slammed the newspaper on the coffee table, making her flinch slightly. There was a photo of him, with a small caption underneath: 'Heir Hadrian Peverell, foe or foul?' he glares at her, and she simply looked away, "You've been rather- distant since your way back and," she broke off, "people talk,"...
Flashes of unknown memories hit him and he feels overwhelmed. Unsure, lost and oh so mad. Why was it him? Why was it always him?
.
He woke up the next day in the middle of the rapid of a river, as warm brown eyes continued to haunt him from the back of his mind.
This chapter is based a good few years before the timeline in which Luna, Bruce and Steve are in. Harry is present in those chapters, but I prefer to leave him out of our current timeline and in one of his own.
