Chapter 5

Adelei sprinted towards the area she last saw Emmaline searching frantically for her friend. Knowing the spooks, Ade had a feeling they were here for Emmaline's royal and potentially powerful offspring's soul. Ade wasn't about to let that happen to her Emma bear. As she used her katana to slice through some spooks that served as blocks in Ade's path, Adelei managed to find Emmaline. She was quite shocked though, what Adelei witnessed was Em holding a sword larger than her bearing her fangs at the spooks. Emma's husband in full lykae mode attacking the spooks in her surroundings and Emma slicing through those that came too close to her. Suddenly Adelei spotted a spook sneaking up behind the vampire halfling without Lachlain's knowing; Ade ran between the spook and Emmaline, slashing the dark spirit away. Lachlain turned to witness this and gave the Siren a grateful nod.

As the trio fought the spooks surrounding them, Adelei noticed how more and more began to arrive and how her friends were getting worn out within the 15 minutes the spooks were here. She knew Emmaline couldn't hold out much longer and that angered Ade, fueling her powers immensely. "That's it!" Adelei yelled out and slapped her hands on the ground willing all the water she could sense into her command. Within seconds water erupted from the ground, burning the spooks with each drop. Adelei commanded the water to swoop around Emmaline and Lachlain eliminating the spooks nearby. As her final move, Adelei bended the water to rain above, burning up the spooks and eliminating many. The spooks immediately retreated leaving the compound to safety.

The lykae roared a battle cry in triumph and anger. Adelei felt all the energy within her drain as she fell to her knees. She saw Lachlain and Emmaline jog over to her in concern; Lachlain pulled her up by her arm and gave her support to stand as she panted for air. Emmaline began crying pink tears and hugging Adelei thanking her for her help and for saving her baby. "Addie thank you! Thank you Addie! Are you okay?" cried Em as she held her friend.

"Em calm down, I don't want you getting too upset. I'm okay just tired right now." Adelei reassured Emmaline as she patted her back.

"What were those things?" Lachlain asked as he pulled his queen into his other arm protectively.

"Spooks. Evil spirits that steal souls of children and the damned." Adelei answered as she tried to stand on her own. The rest of the pack in the compound began to crowd around their King and Queen looking for answers. "Your child is going to very powerful if the spooks have chosen you as their target Emmy. I suggest you start moving around from place to place for a little bit until I get this resolved." Adelei added as she spoke to her dear friend.

"How do you know all this?!" someone cried out from the crowd. Everyone looked at Adelei waiting for an answer scared or wary.

Finally, Ade sighed and replied, "The immortal who sent them was my brother." Roars of anger and confusion erupted from the crowds. Some screamed profanities at her while others continued yelling out questions, all of it overwhelming. Suddenly Adelei's vision began to double and become blurry, her skull feeling like heavy lead, and then darkness. The last thing she heard was a violent roar in anger.

When Duncan finally managed to exit the godforsaken dungeon, he encountered havoc from the outside world. He witnessed shadow-like creatures fight his brethren and destroying anything in sight. The first thought that came to mind was that he had to find his mysterious mate and protect her from these horrid creatures, so Duncan sniffed the air for her scent. Within seconds he pulled her thread from others and started sprinting towards her direction, attacking any of those shadow freaks within range. When he finally spotted her, she was fighting those monsters and destroying them swiftly. The mysterious female was using her unique katana of blue with grace and precision defending the Queen of the Lykae. Before he could reach her, the strong female did the unimaginable. She used unforeseen power to summon water from the whole compound and commanding it to attack all monsters within the Queen's perimeter.

Duncan was in awe at the abilities his female had. What was she? A sorceress? Witch? Either way, he was about to find out, and then suddenly she fell to her knees with an exhausted look on her face. Duncan's chest tightened in panic and he ran faster across the grounds, he then stopped as the royal couple got to her first and saw the crowd form around them. With such recent chaos, Duncan wasn't surprised no one noticed that he had awakened from his mysterious coma.

After the King helped the female stand up, the Queen Emmaline hugged her with tears of gratefulness. "Thank you Addie!" he heard Emmaline say. He finally found out his female's name, Addie. It was cute and delicate as she seemed right then and there. Then the crowd began to yell out questions and before he knew it, she fainted. Pissed that the clan had pressed his female, Duncan roared in anger to shut everyone up. The crowd then looked at him and reacted in surprise.

"Lieutenant Duncan!"

"He's sane!"

"The sirenae is his mate."

Whispers of shock filled the air as Duncan strode towards the royals and his fainted mate. Lachlain looked just as shocked as the rest of the clan but handed over the wee female to Duncan immediately. "Brother you're-you're awake" Lachlain whispered as if him speaking any louder would change the fact that Duncan was here.

"Aye, thanks to her," Duncan replied looking down at his female. "Show me a place where I can tend to her." Lachlain nodded and waved for Duncan to follow him.

After settling Addie in an empty bed, Duncan explained to his King and Queen what had happened within the basement and how his female had awakened him. With the Queen's information, Duncan had learned that his fated one's full name was Adelei the Absolute. She was a Sirenae halfling who was sent to the compound by Nix the Ever-knowing; to wake him.
