Chapter 5

Saving Things That Go Unused

When you want a rare item, but discover that it's too expensive, the best thing to do is to try and save your money so that you can purchase it later. But to Reuben and the Bikini Warriors, they were looking at a staff that seemed quite beautiful but powerful.

"Aw, man, that crystal staff is way too expensive," moaned Fighter.

"Yeah, I know. There's no way we can afford it right now," agreed Mage.

"But we have to buy it. we don't have a choice. Without the crystal staff, we won't be able to clear the boss at the end of the dungeon," said Paladin.

"We just have to put together the money we have, then scrape up the rest by selling off whatever we can," remarked Dark Elf.

"Actually, I have a better idea. Thanks to some bandits I was able to take down quite recently, I was able to scrounge up some cash by selling some diamonds they had," said Reuben.

"Hey, that's actually better than what I had planned," replied Paladin.

"As for all this junk we've got, how were we able to carry all this stuff?" asked Fighter.

"Really deep pockets, or it's probably another secret ability of ours," replied Reuben.

"We're way overstock with potions, and we never even touched the holy water," added Dark Elf.

"True, but sometimes saving some of the important stuff is what makes us be able to overcome any challenge," said Reuben, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"Hey, wait, isn't this the magic mirror we used in the first dungeon to seal that enemy away?" asked Paladin.

"I'm actually a bit surprised you still held on to it. But, since it's no longer needed, I'm willing to bet that someone else can use it to make themselves look good later," replied Reuben.

"I hear you, Reuben, but taking things slowly by selling stuff willy-nilly is a waste. Plus, all the shops tell me that mirror is way too important to sell," said Mage.

"Yeah, I guess you're right, Mage. I think if we decided to buy ourselves a nice estate, then we could actually keep the mirror as a memento of the time you used it in your first dungeon," agreed Reuben.

"Well, we should definitely sell all the armor and weapons we don't use anymore," said Paladin.

"Fair point, but we gotta be careful of what happens next," replied Reuben.

The four Bikini Warriors agreed, and the old armor they had was sold to a clothing shopkeeper, which then led to some people buying it from the shop.

"I seriously don't get it. Who would've thought people would want our used armor so bad?" asked Fighter.

"It does seem like a peculiar thing to desire," replied Dark Elf.

"Hey, anything's better than just holding onto something that's already suffered minor damage, but can be made better than ever. But I'm surprised Mage's previous armor sold for more than yours did," admitted Reuben.

"We still don't have enough for the staff, I guess we have no choice but to sell even more," said Dark Elf.

"Hey guys, check it out," called Fighter.

Everyone turned to see her holding a bowl full of bottles.

"We have a tone of these. What are they?" she asked.

"Oh, those are magic elixirs," replied Mage.

"Those Elixir's are a last resort, they call it a miracle in a bottle because they fully restore your health and mana. All you have to do is drink one down and you're good as new," explained Dark Elf.

"Yeah, but, aren't we careful not to get to that point?" asked Paladin.

"To a lesser extent, yes, Paladin. Still, I say we hold onto them for the time being," replied Reuben.

"What do you mean?" asked Fighter.

"Trust me, would I lie to you, when I say that I managed to get some more elixirs from some necromancers, we wiped out?" replied Reuben.

"Good point," giggled Mage.

"Plus, Taking them out means lots and lots of money, since they hired some bandits to help them keep their ritual a secret," he said.

"Nice planning, Reuben," smiled Fighter.

Thanks to his well earned gold, they went to the weapon shop, and purchased the crystal staff for Mage to use.

"I've waited so long for this moment. My own crystal staff," she said.

"Okay, let's go and say hello to this boss and show him a good time!" grinned Reuben.

Sometime later, they had managed to reach the dungeon, and had cleared out a lot of the enemies that were guarding the entrance, but the four girls were exhausted except Reuben, who barely broke a sweat.

"We're almost there guys, the boss is just past that gate. But, I can barely stand. Doesn't anyone have a potion I can drink?" panted Fighter.

"Here, better take these elixirs, since we saved them," said Reuben.

He passed one to the Bikini Warriors.

"Thanks Reuben, you're a true life saver," they said.

"My pleasure, ladies. And once you're all back at 100%, we're gonna rise to the challenge and put this guy out of his misery," replied Reuben.

Soon Fighter, Paladin, Mage, and Dark Elf drain their elixirs, and they were now fully healed and revitalized. Then Mage spotted a treasure chest nearby.

"Jackpot, let's find out what's inside," Fighter said excitedly.

But when they opened it, they saw another crystal staff, that looked similar to the one they had bought.

"Wow, guess we should sell this to the highest bidder, and that'll give us a lot of cash to boot," sighed Reuben.

Mage was about to cry her eyes out, when Reuben gently turned her around and gave her a hug.

"Hey, don't feel bad. At least we're back to fighting capacity now, so let's kick this guy's booty," he said, making them smile at him.

They marched forward, and vanquished the boss, with Reuben delivering the final blow. After that, they decided to find an inn so that they could rest and recuperate after their feud with the monster inside. But as Reuben slowly got to bed, he saw Paladin, walking towards him without her armor on, and sat down next to him.

"Hey, Reuben, what you said back there, about how saving some items is okay when you want some money. Well, to tell you the truth, I'm actually happy that you comforted Mage even when we found that second crystal staff," she said.

"What for?" asked Reuben.

"I just wish there were people like you in this world, full of kindness and compassion. You're like a true man among men, and you'd give your life to protect us, just as I would. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I love you," smiled Paladin, as she inched her face closer to his.

Reuben smiled back at Paladin, then gently kissed her lips. After that, he removed his clothes, laid down on the bed with Paladin in his arms, and pulled the covers over them, just as Fighter, Mage, and Dark Elf fell asleep as well. The boss was quite difficult for them, but thanks to Reuben's clever planning, they were able to beat it, and emerge victorious.
