Chapter Six
Izuku had just settled down on a parked ship just off the shore of Japan, a gift from a very happy business man for saving his life from concrete shoes courtesy of a local Yakuza group to rest for the night after his long day when his snow globe went off. Mirko was standing on a beach thumping her right foot with her arms crossed. All he wanted to do was sleep, but Mirko's image kept showing in his head. His mind said no, but his quirk still reached out and made a throne for her to sit on.
It didn't make sense to him he hadn't made thrones for anyone else, but All Might. Still his quirk naturally formed one for her. His quirk would create a water pathway that the throne would follow kinda like a roller coaster. Someone in this case Mirko would sit down in a chair and follow the tracks.
He was sitting on the deck of his ship when her laughter rang through the air. It was loud and boisterous. But her ride soon ended with the water throne stopping a short distance from him on the deck of this ship.
Mirko had a wide smile running across her face. "Hope you had fun." Mirko smiled louder at his statement. "That was awesome, your throne appeared around me, and then it was like whoosh right into the sky. Best roller coaster ever, and the sights were awesome too. I got to see lights everywhere, and the sky showed so many more stars than it normally does." Her excited speech of her trip went on for a while before she finally calmed down. The whole time Izuku sat patiently just listening to her. Her voice had such confidence and excitement in it that Izuku felt himself drawn to her.
Maybe it was strange that he liked her voice so much, but he'd heard millions of voices in his time of guarding Japan's coast. His snow globe technique had gotten to the point that the vibrations in the air from a person's voice making sound waves could be translated into speech. Even the tone of voice was transmitted if he focused. In all that time he hadn't once felt as comfortable around another person's voice as he did with Mirko.
It was after she calmed down a little that Izuku placed it, his body was relaxed where normally it was tense waiting any second to launch itself into action. His body hadn't relaxed like this since the day before his mother's death.
"Hey Mirko, you're something special." The blunt but caring way Izuku said that to her threw her for a loop. They'd just been sitting in silence for a minute while she caught her breath after talking about the amazing experience she had coming to his boat. One that she didn't even know existed until today.
It took a moment before she replied. "I know! You're pretty special yourself, you know that?" She'd been stopping a store robbery when the international news broadcast Water Kings actions in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Spain. Satellite footage of Water King and the American hero Electoplant actions had been leaked. Along with a brief interview from Elctoplant explaining what an experience it had been traveling across an ocean and then watching Water Kings work.
Mirko had felt great pride that it was a Japanese hero who the Hero Association had asked for help. It showed how strong they were to her. Sure All Might and a few other Heroes had been known internationally for years, but to see a young talent like her current company just sweeping away an international incident like it was nothing. It just made her want to be closer to him. What was he like, did he eat fish, or better yet did he like carrots? Who is Water King?
Mirko shuffled in her seat before crossing her legs. "Hey Midoriya, what's it like beating up villains outside of Japan?"
It took him a moment to tear his eyes away from Mirko's beautiful legs and then another to form a response. "It's not much different to stopping crime here in Japan, but there is a language barrier between people that can be a pain sometimes." A sheepish grin crossed his face as he rubbed the back of his head. "I actually started learning other languages a few years ago, but when I was thirteen I kinda stopped going to school, or learning anything outside of my quirk."
Mirko's expression turned bewildered "Huh? You haven't been going to school for two years now?"
Izuku lowered his head. Her question made him feel so stupid now. Yamamoto and All Might had both requested numerous times that he attend school, but he'd always ran away. He knew it was dumb to ignore his education, but the idea of sitting in a classroom wasting time grated on his nerves to much.
It was with a weak voice that he spoke up. "Ah, yeah I haven't kept up with my schooling at all."
"Ok, it's decided I'll teach you!" Mirko's smile was mega sized. This was sad, but also a perfect opportunity for her. Izuku needed to finish his education, and she'd be there to help him. And if it just so happened that she learned who Water King really was all the better.
Izuku's head shot up to look at Mirko. "What?"
Mirko crossed her arms emphasizing her breast, but still pulling off a you can't stop me aura. "You heard me. I'm going to teach you. From now on every night unless hero duty pulls us away I will be teaching you."
Before Izuku could say anything about her decision Mirko stood up, and crossed the distance to his chair. "Now we've both had long days, and since you made Japan look great today I think you deserve a reward." Not even giving the teen a chance to argue, Mirko pulled him up, and dragged him below deck.
Izuku woke up after one of the best sleeps in his life. His boat was rocking in the water, and Mirko's head was resting on his chest. Both of them were simi clothed. Him in a shirt and boxers while Mirko had borrowed his shorts and a shirt to sleep in after they'd taken turns using his shower.
Apparently his reward for making Japan look awesome internationally was getting to sleep next to her. Definitely one of the best rewards he'd ever gotten for his heroics.
Mirko's body tense up next to him for a second before it relaxed. She lightly snuggled into him. "You make a great pillow, and your bed is so much softer than my apartments."
"We can stay like this for as long as you want. I can do my hero work from here." Mirko looked up at Izuku in astonishment.
"How?" Mirko wanted to know badly how he could save lives while staying in bed. It was like the ultimate power to do everything from bed, and not have to get up until he wanted to.
Izuku divided his mind into two parts. One half fell into his quirk and started paying closer attention to Japan's coast. Nothing was really going on. The other half of his mind paid attention to his body. The heat that Mirko gave off as she rested at his side. Maybe it was wrong having an older woman by his side, but damn if he cared. Mirko was too special for him to push her away, and he felt confident that nothing would stop her from doing what she wanted.
"My quirk lets me feel the moisture in the air, and the water in the ocean. I can feel everything within my range of control. I call this my Domain. In it I rule almost unopposed. I can make water do almost anything I want except turn it into Ice. for some reason solid water won't respond to me. That's not to say I can't work around ice. I can change water temperature allowing me to heat it up hot enough to melt ice, and once ice is melted I can take control of the new water.
Anyways the reason I can stay in bed and work is that I have made a technique I call Snow globe. It's made up of several observation techniques all put together to make a small world I can Imagine in my mind kinda like looking into a Snow globe, but I can zoom in, and effect what happens in that Snow globe.
With water I can feel the location of things in the ocean. How it parts around objects and disappears into an animal's body. Even if the animal is sitting still I can tell it's an animal by the water it breaths in. My quirk loses connection once it enters a living body. It's like there's an energy field that cuts off my power. In a way I'm extremely grateful I can't drown a person by accident or pull the water from a human's body while summoning more water.
As for on the beach I use the moisture in the air. I can feel it being pushed around objects just like in the ocean, but it also transmits sound through vibrations. It's how I knew you were on the beach. Your foot thumping the ground really drew my attention."
A smirk crossed her face at that.
"All of this information comes to my head, and to sort it all I imagine a location in my head, and make a globe around it. I'm currently just imagining Japan's coast."
Mirko hummed for a second, "So you see things almost like echo location. But what about making water just appear from thin air?"
Izuku took a second to answer. Some idiot knocked himself unconscious while drinking in the morning. He fell down in the surf, and would probably drown in a few inches of water without his help. A little push of his quirk had a wave care the man's body farther up the beach.
"I guess the best way I could word it is that I thinkin the moisture in the air so fast that it appears as if water is appearing in the middle of the air. Which it is."
Mirko let out another hum, and then asked another question. And that's how the rest of his day went until Mirko had to go back to her duties only to return later that night with a bag of clothes, and another bag full of books.
Izuku laid on his back looking up at the sky. Everything hurt from his head to his feet, and it was all Mirko fault.
His morning had been great waking up next to Mirko. Some light conversation, and then some food hadn't been bad. It was when Mirko started teaching him that things became difficult. He split his attention between his hero work and listening to Mirko teach. It quickly became apparent that he couldn't focus on learning new dull material while focusing on Snow globe. It didn't help that while Mirko was differently the hottest teacher he could have asked for, she didn't explain things very well. Between his lack of attention and her frustration he'd somehow found himself kicks off his own ship. Literally.
The ensuing fight/spar on the beach helped calm them both down, or at least it calmed him down. Mirko just got more excited, and started putting rules on his quirk. 'Can't use water farther than five feet from his body. That rule was gradually reduced to two inches from his body' she forced him to use his quirk in close quarters combat, and promptly thrashed his ass up and down the beach. All the while he focused on snow globe, never stopping his rule in his domain.
People called him a King, and he would not let them down even if it meant he got thrown across a beach or had trouble studying. All these inconveniences meant was that he needed more focus, and better mastery of his quirk and self. Maybe today he couldn't fight Mirko at full strength because he was focused on his domain, but he would grow to the point that he could do both tasks.
Mirko's shadow was cast over his form. "Hey Mirko, I know we can't do this everyday, but will you be my training partner?"
Mirko reached down to haul him up. "I already am so there's no point in you asking. If you have time to make a pointless request like that then you have time for me to keep kicking your ass!" she then threw him into the water.
It was while in the air before he hit the water that he regretted making his request.
