Scully woke up to find Mulder had managed to get his arm wrapped around her waist and was breathing gently against her shoulder. She shifted slightly and Mulder's breathing hitched but he quickly settled back down. She managed to turn her head enough to see
the clock next to the bed.
6:15am
She was really regretting her outburst from the night before but set her mind to the case. All of the other mess could wait until later.
"Mulder….MULder"
"Uh….Uh huh, Scuulllly. Nnnn"
"Um Mulder. This isn't a dream."
Scully smiled innocently as Mulder shot up.
"How long was I talking?"
"Don't worry it was only for a few seconds….. We should get to the crime scene"
She quickly extracted herself from Mulder's arm and shuffled to the bathroom.

They arrived at the crime scene just after 8 am, having finished breakfast at a local diner. The coffee had been questionable but had been enough to fully awaken the Mulder zombie that had emerged that morning.
Mulder hadn't really explained where they were going but once they arrived Scully knew why. The bright sign outside the restaurant inked closed. The few officers of the town were packed into the small eating and the pair glided between bodies. Mulder lead them both straight to the back.
The sheriff was stood next to the glowing yellow tape that was gently swaying in the harsh breeze.
"Agent Mulder, Agent Scully thanks for gettin' out here 'specially with the freak storm that you experienced yesterday. Agent, you didn't really explain on the phone, Why does this fall under the jurisdiction of the FBI? Not that I'm complaining or anythin'."
"Yes, right, well, my partner and I specialise in unusual cases, such as this one."
Scully huffed.
"And although it may appear that this man was stabbed with a skewer in the neck there is no sign of strong pressure being applied to any of the areas other than wounds themselves."
"Mulder, can I have a word?"
He stared at her blankly.
"OUTside"
"Yeah sure"
She marched out of the room and into the alley behind the building. Once he had joined her she shut the door behind him.
"Mulder, what the hell is this? You told me to trust you told me this was going to be worth it. Instead I have to endure way too long on the same plane as you and for what? A standard murder most likely crime of passion. This isn't some unusual case involving vampires you've just projected what you want onto the case."
Mulder stood slightly bewildered.
"I can feel there's something more going on here, just trust me alright?"
Really short chapter but I haven't written for ages. Apologise for anyone invested in this fic. I had school and stuff. You know just unproductive sitting at my laptop just kind of staring. Anyway, hope to get next chapter out as soon as possible cus I made you wait so long for a very meagre chapter.

Scully was done. Unlike the many other occasions she had wished to leave her partner on a case, this time she had gone as far as to book a ticket on a flight back to Washington. She had driven back to the motel, leaving Mulder at the crime scene. Sitting at the small desk to the side of the room she could not distract herself from the thoughts encroaching her mind.
Mulder sometimes got so wrapped up in his work he couldn't see the outside world or the effects of the two colliding. She sometimes thought of herself as Mulder's bridge his connection between the realities but like everything else bridges don't always work. They can break down and fixing them takes a while. Scully could already feel the cracks forming as Mulder forced himself into the darkness and she didn't know what to do. Obviously this had happened before but Scully was pissed at Mulder just enough that she really didn't feel like it was her responsibility to save him this time.
