Disclaimer I don't own Naruto
A Heart to Heart:
When Kakashi returned to his apartment, he found Naruto was still asleep; so passing time he started preparing dinner. He decided on salmon with a side of asparagus and carrots and started on his task. He was halfway through when he heard small footsteps entering the kitchen.
Glancing over his shoulder, he saw a still half asleep Naruto taking a seat at the table. "Well hello sleepy head, did you have a good nap?" he asked.
Naruto didn't verbally reply, but he gave the man a small smile and a nod. Kakashi eye smiled before turning back to the stove. It would appear his charge had inherited his father's quiet mannerisms. "Are you hungry?" he asked.
The blonde nodded, "Hai Kakashi san," he said.
Kakashi laughed, "Good because dinner is almost ready, but please drop the san, it makes me feel old," he said.
Naruto laughed, "Okay, by the way, where did you go, Kakashi?" he asked, making the older man pause.
Kakashi tilted his head, "How do you know I left if you were asleep, Naruto kun?" he asked suspiciously.
The blonde shrugged, "I sensed your chakra leave the premises," he said.
Kakashi turned a stared at him, "You sensed me leave?" he asked.
Naruto nodded, "I don't know really how to explain it, but I can sense when people are near me or not and what their intentions are. It comes in handy when you're on the streets," he said in such a grave voice that Kakashi had to remind himself that the child before him was only three and a half.
It angered the copy ninja to know that Naruto had been homeless for a short time due to people's ignorance; however, he was excited to learn that the boy possessed a rare gift. In the shinobi, world sensors were highly sought after and if what Naruto described was true, then the boy would be a precious asset to the village in the future.
He would report this development to the Hokage just as soon as he had his talk with Naruto. As he was thinking this, the timer went off, signaling that dinner was ready; carefully, he placed the food on the plate and put it in front of Naruto. "Eat up, squirt," he said.
Naruto looked starry-eyed at the food a moment before clasping his hands together, "Thank you for the food," he said and then dug in.
The copy ninja eye smiled as he sat down at the table where the two ate in comfortable silence. Kakashi decided now was the perfect time to talk with the boy about the incident, "Hey kiddo, I actually wanted to ask you something," he said.
Naruto raised his face from his plate and looked curiously at his guardian, "What is it?" he asked.
Kakashi played with a piece of his food a moment, trying to decide how to ask his question, "Well, I wanted to ask you about earlier today. What exactly happened between you and the store manager?" he asked.
Naruto closed his eyes and smiled, "whatever do you mean Kakashi?" he asked.
Kakashi looked at the boy sternly, "Don't play games Naruto kun, you know what I mean," he said sternly.
The child lost his smile and opened his eyes, giving him an indifferent expression, "It was nothing Kakashi san, it was simply a misunderstanding," he said.
Kakashi wasn't buying it though, "It seemed more than a misunderstanding to me," he said.
Naruto shrugged, "It was nothing. The manager simply forgot his place," he said.
Kakashi seeing being nice would not get the answers he needed; he switched to a scare tactic, "Look Naruto kun, I don't want to seem harsh here, but if word of this outburst got to the academy, they would deny you entry. Now if you tell me what the problem is, I can help you," he said.
Naruto looked at him a moment as if he were judging the validity of his words before he turned his head away, "The guy said the D-word," he said so quietly Kakashi had to strain his ears to hear him.
Kakashi quirked an eyebrow up, "The D-word? He called you a demon?" he asked gently.
Naruto shook his head, "No, I could care less if they call me that, after all, it can't be helped that they're too stupid to tell the difference between a scroll and a kunai," he said.
Kakashi nearly choked on his food when he heard that, "what do you mean by that Naruto kun?!" he said nervously.
The child laughed at his guardian's stunned expression, his face taking on a humorous expression, "Now, now, Kakashi san, you seem surprised. Did you think I wouldn't figure out that I'm the holder of the Kyubi no Kitsune?" he said.
Kakashi stuttered and Naruto's eyes darkened, "But to answer your question, the guy told me to die. What right does he have to tell me that?" he asked.
Kakashi stunned by what he was hearing but he quickly gathered his bearing, "That man had no right to say that to you Naruto kun; however, if you want to be a ninja you'll have to learn to control that rage," he said.
Naruto contemplated this for a moment before he nodded, "I'll try," he said.
Kakashi smiled and decided it was time to change the subject, "So have you given any thought about what subjects you want to focus on in the ninja academy?" he asked.
Naruto's eyes lit up, "Sorta, I know I want to be proficient in everything but the primary fields I want to specialize in are Ninjutsu, Kenjutsu, and Fuinjutsu," he said.
FAINT
"Uh, Kakashi?!"
