The teens walked on the gangplank as they disembarked, the ship docked in the American naval base in San Diego, California.
They were directed into office building of the navy base, bustling with administrative staff until they entered to conference room, which was deserted save for several secret service agents and a man in a wheelchair.
"Mister President". Jack and Eddie stood at attention.
"At Ease." The man ordered to which the two soldiers complied. Then the President turned his attention to the young heroes.
"Welcome! You must be the teens who showed so much heroism at Pearl. We are most grateful for your courage and bravery during the attack." Roosevelt greeted. "Please take a seat."
"T-thank you Mister President." Izuku replied.
The teens gave brief introductions of themselves.
"I understand you are Japanese Nationals, and that you were transported into the past from the year 20XX."
"That is correct sir." Todoroki answered.
"And I also understand you all wish to aid in the war against Japan?". Roosevelt asked. "May I ask why you wish to choose to fight for the United States?".
"We understand our country is currently a militaristic dictatorship, which is against the beliefs we were raised in future Japan. We wish to end the war through the best of our abilities and limit the death toll, and end the dictatorship." Todoroki explained.
The President nodded understandingly.
"We also wish to prove that not all Japanese are bad." Izuku spoke. "We know America is rightfully enraged at Japan for the attack, but there are also many Japanese opposing this war."
"And, finally, if we can, we want to return to our own time if possible." Tsuyu spoke.
"I see." Roosevelt spoke. "From what Sergeant McDonnell has told me, you were training to be heroes in Japan?".
"Yes sir. We are students of UA, the most prestigious hero school in Japan in 20XX." Uraraka explained.
"UA? I believe this intelligence report from our code breakers will be of great interest." The President spoke.
A dossier labeled MAGIC was passed to the teen's, which Izuku read aloud.
"To: Colonel AfO
Your work at research facility UA has made great progress. The Emperor is pleased on your work regarding quirks and the brand-new prototypes. The war in China has proved an excellent test bed for your 'Nomu'. More resources will be allocated to your disposal."
"Our.. school.. was a WEAPONS RESEARCH FACILITY!?". Bakugo declared.
"Yes, it seems so." The President replied. "Our codebreakers have partially cracked Japanese communications, unfortunately, most of the locations and personnel the Japanese refer to are designated with initials, we have yet to determine what they refer to."
"Thanks anyways, our school was located in Musutafu, there could be a chance the facility is located there." Izuku thanked. "But we know there's Nomu to contend with."
"What are Nomu?". Roosevelt asked. "We are aware the Japanese are taking advantage of their quirk numerical superiority, but you teens show great distress when speaking about that."
"Nomu are reanimated corpses infused with multiple quirks to act as super soldiers." Todoroki explained. "We fought one before, it took all we had and the best pro heroes to stop."
The President listened to his words. "I'll pass this on to my generals, we will take this into account. This war will not be easily won, Japanese super weapons or not."
"We can help with that. We've fought villains before and we've been heavily trained." Kirishima boasted. "We know how Japan uses its quirk population."
"Our quirks can also be of use." Tsuyu spoke.
The teens gave a small demonstration of their abilities, impressing the President.
"You kids will be an invaluable asset to the war against Japan, there is a desperate need for resources for the war against Japan, but Plan Dog dictates a holding action in the Pacific.".
"Plan Dog?". Izuku asked.
"Germany first." The President answered.
"I know you're all eager to fight, but first, while Sergeant McDonnell has given you basic training, we need linguists and interrogators as well. You will be atrending military intelligence service school in San Francisco as well as finishing your standard training."
"Now, while normally, women are not allowed to participate in combat." The President spoke, looking at Uraraka and Tsuyu. "I unfortunately cannot change that, but I have given permission for you two to serve with medical staff in the Pacific."
The two girls thanked the president, and soon the meeting wrapped up, with handshakes from each of them.
However, when it was Izuku's turn, he hesitated, then whispered something to the President, whom Izuku thanked before he left.
The President thought about the young hero's words again. How the kid wanted to prove not all Japanese were bad, and a few bits of information regarding the future. Perhaps the teens' action could make for an excellent propaganda coup. Nonetheless, he was going to have a chat with the press.
"So, what did you say to the President? ". Kirishima asked.
"I gave him a new perspective." He smiled.
The months flew by, holidays and birthday celebrations were tamer as the war loomed. Training was finishing up for the teens. They were already extremely proficient in combat with their quirks, so their training was mostly on Military Intelligence and amphibious warfare since they most likely would be fighting on island bases.
Time for the teens was divided between training, rest and giving intelligence on Quirks.
At the same time, the teens grew anxious as the Japanese onslaught seemed unending.
The Philippines had fallen, the crippling of the American Pacific fleet prevented supplies from reaching the islands, sealing its fate to the Japanese.
The British fortress of Singapore had surrendered, despite having numerical superiority, Japanese forces triumphed with better leadership and quirks. With an intelligence report mentioning Japanese forces using portals to bypass British defences and mount surprise attacks.
Then with the British defeat at Singapore, an Allied defeat on the high seas. American, Australian, British and Dutch warships were sunk by the Imperial Japanese Navy, clearing the way for Japan to take the oil rich Dutch East Indies.
The Oriental Blitzkrieg continued, rapid Japanese assaults into Burma, threatening British India, and an invasion of Papua New Guinea, putting the pressure on Australia. Imperial Japan was now the master of the Pacific.
But Allied forces were not idle.
It was in the middle of April, when Izuku woke to a commotion in the barracks of the Marine training camp in San Diego.
"What's going on?". Izuku yawned.
"American aircraft have just launched an air raid on Tokyo." Kirishima whispered.
"The press is calling it the Doolittle Raid after the raid's commander, most of the pilots have landed in China because of the range. There's also reports of Imperial Japanese atrocities in China in response to the Chinese helping the downed airmen." Eddie read aloud from a report.
"The Japanese command is shocked since those bastards thought they were untouchable. We showed them wrong."
"How much damage did they do?". Todoroki asked.
"Not really that much, to be honest, most of it was shock factor since they thought they were untouchable because of the sheer distance, but several industrial areas in Tokyo have been hit as well as a small city called Musutafu…".
"Anyways, high command has not yet stated where they launched the planes, but judging by the distance, me and Jack believe the raid was launched from Alaska or Aircraft carriers" Jack answered.
The raid had greatly boosted American morale, and shattered the Japanese' perceived invulnerability.
Nonetheless, the teens remained wary, while they were relieved at an American success, it felt wrong cheering for the bombing of their own country, nonetheless, it was a step closer to defeating Japan.
More news came in over the months, especially a large naval battle in Australian waters.
The Imperial Japanese Navy attempt to seize further land in Papua New Guinea, specifically Port Moresby was countered by American Aircraft carriers. The only major warships not destroyed or heavily damaged at Pearl Harbour.
A Japanese response was elicited, and another naval battle began. Despite the American loss of one of their two Aircraft Carriers, the Japanese offensive was successfully blunted and two of their carriers were left needing repairs.
And so, it happened to be one day at the Marine base in San Diego.
"You are all dismissed." Jack announced to the teens.
"Yes Sarge!". They replied, before going their own ways for free time.
Jack really didn't have much else to teach them, their time in UA had proven them adept at combat and taking instructions albeit Bakugo's fiery personality did cause some issues, but Kirishima kept him in check.
Furthermore, he had received news that his squadmates were arriving.
While Eddie used to go drink like a true Irishman, he had to keep watch over Todorki and Bakugo to make sure things didn't go out of hand, along with Kirishima which quickly gained favour from Eddie due to his ability to tame the human grenade.
Izuku meanwhile, went to his bunk and fetched his new journal. He had already added Eddie and Jack's entries.
A new addition to his journals, was the fact he also documented the course of the war in addition to quirks.
Last month, Japanese offensives were halted after a fierce naval battle in the Coral Sea..".
Deku wasn't really a historian, but he was a good writer. His aforementioned lack of historical knowledge prevented him from knowing the course of the war.
"Hey Deku, writing again?". Uraraka came up beside him.
"U-Oh! Uraraka San!". Izuku greeted, albeit startled.
"W-what brings you here?".
"Well, Bakugo and Todoroki began sparing again, at first it was fine, but then it kinda got out of hand, so Kirishima and Eddie had to jump in." She relayed the downward spiral of events. "Tsu just decided she wouldn't have any of this."
"Eventually, everyone kinda overused their quirks, so it just ended in punches and kicks."
"Ah, I see. Damnit Kaachan." Izuku muttered under his breath. "Honestly, we're seeing less action than back in UA. And going into town is not really an option considering the locals aren't.. very tolerant of people like us."
"Maybe we can go for a chat with the Sergeant?". Uraraka suggested.
They had already had on and off conversations about their pasts, the Sergeant especially took note on Bakugo and Izuku's rocky relationship, and he especially sought to keep any conflict focused on the enemy, and not each other.
The two were en route to Jack's quarters when they passed the mess hall and spotted the Sergeant with three other men.
"Well, lookie here, your timing's impeccable, c'mon in you two." Jack called. "These are some old friends of mine." He gestured at the three other men.
"Well, you know Johnny already." Jack introduced. "This is Monty, he was redeployed from Europe."
"And Charlie." He finished.
"Hello, you must be Izuku, Jack's told me a lot aboot you." Monty spoke, putting his hand out to shake, which Izuku reciprocated. "And you must be Ms. Uraraka." He shook her hand.
"Monty, why don't you tell them a little bout yourself."
"Of course Jack, I was sent to fight the Germans two years back, but after being sent home with wounds, the government requested that I act as a liaison officer to the Americans for upcoming war against Japan."
"You're not American?". Izuku asked as he scribbled in his book.
"People seem to forget the United States is not the only one at war with Japan. Canada declared war on Japan on December 7th."
"Next, Johnny, who you know already, you ought to thank Izuku here."
"T-thanks.." He meekly thanked Izuku.
"O-oh no problem." Izuku replied.
"And we'll be fuckin working with them.." The man named Charlie snarled.
"Calm yourself." Monty beckoned.
"I'll be taking my leave.. can't stand any more nips…"The man named Charlie left.
"Don't mind him." Jack directed..
"You see, well, Charlie was a soldier in China back in 1937." Monty explained. "He holds a grudge against anything and everything Japanese after what he saw in China."
This lead to a slightly paralyzed reaction from the teens.
"It's alright, not your guys' fault, just give him breathing space, show him not all Japanese are evil as the ones he fought." Jack instructed.
"Umm, I think we should keep him away from Bakugo." Uraraka spoke.
"Oh yeah. Definitely." Jack assured.
"I see you're a writer." Monty remarked.
"Yes sir." Izuku confirmed. "Well I'd like to know about your quirks..".
"Well ask away!". Monty replied.
Montgomery "Monty" Richards
Quirk: Canadian.
He can transform his hands into hockey sticks for melee combat. He may be polite, but he's an experienced soldier.
John "Johnny" Vasquez.
Excellent superhuman hearing, practically a human radar.
"What about Charlie?". Izuku asked.
"Well, that's a bit complicated. I'll say." Jack spoke. "But I'll sum it up."
"Charlie's quirk is something called Vengeance." Jack explained.
"If you somehow cause him to have a reason to take revenge on someone or something.. His quirk gives him increased durability, and forces him to carry it out no matter what. You cannot stop him. You cannot reason with him, and you cannot bargain with him until whatever happened has been avenged."
"Currently he has a gripe with the entirety of the Japanese Empire.."
"Ah..". Izuku replied.
"So do not mix with Bakugo." Uraraka spoke.
"Exactly. Anyways, I'm going to keep an eye on them. Haven't heard from Eddie in a while..." Jack announced as he dashed out.
"Yeah.. I'm going. Can't miss Kaachan." Izuku spoke.
"I'm coming with you." Uraraka followed.
"Well, c'mon Johnny, it wouldn't do if we were a no-show now?". Monty grabbed Johnny as they too followed outside.
Outside, Bakugo and Todoroki were sitting on a bench, with Kirishima and Eddie keeping a stern look after their intervention.
"Can we fuckin keep hostilities against Japan? Not ourselves?". Eddie barked.
"Well, I see you've got this in hand." Jack remarked.
"I've been doing fuckin Barfights for ages, I can handle two teens regardless of their quirks." Eddie retorted.
"Anyways, some old friends have arrived. Oughta say high dontcha think?". Jack spoke.
"Aye." Eddie responded. " Monty! How's it been?".
After brief conversation with Eddie reconnecting as well as Todoroki, Kirishima, Bakugo and Tsuyu having introductions with Jack's squadmates, (except Charlie.)
Later in the day, the teens were on the shooting range, rehearsing their firearms training.
"Damn Deku! You can't even fucking shoot for shit!". Bakugo taunted.
In actuality, Izuku was deliberately shooting for non lethal areas.
"Notice how I am shooting carefully at areas that will less likely kill whoever I am shooting at, and not actively trying to turn them into a red mist unlike you Kaachan."
"Tch! You're gonna get crushed if you focus too much in a single target." Bakugo retorted.
Izuku sighed and went back to shooting tight groups with the Tommy gun, One for All greatly helped his aim.
Several more brass cartridges were ejected as lead left the barrel.
Soon, all bullets were expended and Izuku unloaded the weapon, putting it on safe, and got off the range.
Izuku surveyed his friends in the range.
Kirishima got his hands in the heaviest weapons in the arsenal. The sixteen pound Browning Automatic Rifle was his. It gave a mean kick from the recoil given by automatic fire of thirty aught six.
And finally, the 1917 Browning machine gun. It was a stationary weapon, due to sheer size and weight. While it wasn't meant to be moved, it was an excellent defensive weapon, able to overwhelm some of the best quirk users and cut down charging attackers.
"Oh yeah!". Kirishima cheered as he hammered away with the weapons.
"So, Midoriya, what's with that other guy?". Tsuyu hopped over.
"Oh! Asu- Tsu, well, Jack told me he holds a grudge against Japanese people for personal reasons. However, Jack basically said we should keep our distance and show him that not all Japanese were like the ones he fought."
"And don't mix with Bakugo."
"I see Ribbit.. Anyway, I'm going to have a turn on the range..". Tsuyu announced.
"What did you say Deku? Something about don't mix with me?". A fiery blonde spoke.
Oh shit
"Uh.. nothing Kaachan!". Izuku spoke, in a futile attempt to stop Bakugo.
"No. I definitely heard something.. Charlie is it? That other guy earlier? He thinks he's too good for me?". Bakugo boasted.
"No- the Sergeant..".
"To hell with the Sergeant!". Bakugo spoke. "The only reason I haven't torn the quirkless guy a new one is because he's pretty damn good at fighting." Bakugo replied. "Also Eddie hooked me up with new gauntlets. I wanna test them out."
The new gauntlets were less elegant and more about functionality. The new gauntlets were significantly smaller, most of the aesthetics gone into a more compact design.
"He.. he's not quirk less.." Izuku spoke as Bakugo left.
"Yo Kirsihima!". Izuku spoke.
"We need to find Jack!".
The man named Charlie was punching away at a punching bag, practicing his strength.
Unlike the other soldiers, he also had an Asian appearance in contrast to Jack and Eddie.
Soon, a few explosions from the sky caused him to grab his sidearm.
A blonde haired boy soon landed.
"Hey you!". Bakugo beckoned. "You're the Sergeant's friend! Weren't you curled back in a corner earlier? What's with the no show?".
This visibly got Charlie's attention, but he seemed to ignore it.
"Hey, I'm talking to you! Think you're so hot that you're above me? You're like Shoto!".
Bakugo continued in a taunting tone.
"C'mon! Let's see how fucking hot do you think you are!?". Bakugo continued with his fireworks display.
Two gunshots rang out, and Bakugo's gauntlets had two holes in them.
After that, Charlie tossed away the weapon and brought up his own fists.
It was going to be a fight in the old fashioned away.
"YOU FUCKER!". Bakugo was truly enraged now.
Fists connected as well as explosions.
Despite firing off multiple explosions after shedding the disabled gauntlets, Bakugo's opponent didn't stop.
Bakugo was certainly faster than Charlie, but it seemed his opponent was immune to his attacks, fast as Bakugo was, he was still human, and Carlie got in several good punches and kicks, hampering Bakugo's ability.
Soon, after one of the combatants tackled the other, the fight devolved onto the ground.
Then it was a blur. Bakugo soon found himself restrained by the collective effort of Kirishima, Izuku and Eddie, while Charlie was pinned by The Sergeant and Monty.
Both of them had sustained minor injuries, but Charlie still looked enraged at Bakugo, and was barely contained.
"The fuck were you thinking boy? Starting another fight? I'll out your ass on latrine cleaning duty?". Eddie scolded before rushing to help Jack restrain Charlie.
He seemed to reach inside a medical kit and grab a syringe, injecting Charlie, after which knocking him out cold.
"Well shit, we saw this coming a mile away." Jack spoke. "Let's put ol' Charles here into a good night's rest."
After that, the Sergeant turned his attention to Bakugo.
"Damnit kid, can you not challenge everyone to a fight?". Jack facepalmed.
"WHATS HIS PROBLEM THEN!?". Bakugo gestured to Charlie.
"Listen, Charlie's one of the more unstable people in our group, kinda like you." Jack pointed at Bakugo.
"This is why we had him away from YOU!".
"Goddamnit!". Bakugo shouted, out of responses and fired off an explosion in his rage.
This promptly turned the Sergeant into a red mist, and Bakugo was horrified at his actions.
Suddenly, footsteps from behind gathered their attention.
The teens, (except Izuku) were stunned by the return of the Sergeant.
"That's it kid. Latrine cleaning duty for you!".
After things wound down, the group sat down in the mess hall, where they received orders from command.
"We're needed at Hawaii." It was announced.
Author here.
This chapter mostly condenses the time between our heroes' last action at Pearl Harbor and eventual action in the pacific.
American ground troops were not deployed to the pacific until a year after war's beginning.
Most battles conducted at this point were either between the American and Japanese navies or by Australian forces .
But the next chapter will cover the turning point of the Pacific War, Midway.
On The My Hero Academia side of things, the environment and equipment our heroes will fight in and with will shape how they perform.
Since all the fights take place in Urban Japan, it will be a sharp contrast when they are thrown into the Jungles of South East Asia.
Furthermore, many of the locations in MHA coukd be vital in deciding the fate of the Pacific War, such as Musutafu being a crucial hub for the Imperial Japanese Military and eventually we might see American efforts to deny Japanese uses in Musutafu.
Hint: Look up strategic bombing of Japan.
Nonetheless, it will be one more chapter before our heroes get into real battle.
