Finally a new chapter. School work is pressing down and in the way.
But enjoy and review :)
Chapter 4: New Danger
Sun was rising behind the mountains and Kai was drinking in the kitchen. He had gotten used to blood taste but he still found it repulsing. While walking to his room he glanced at the upstairs. Christian hadn't come out from the room all night. According to Sara Christian stayed alone every time he got either headaches or something else was on his mind.
'Thinking about something?' Mike appeared right behind him.
'Shit! Don't appear behind me just like that and no. Nothing,' Kai pushed Mike away a bit.
'Sir is in foul mood thanks to you, you know,' Mike stated with his annoying smirk.
'Going to blame for that too?' Kai pondered out loud.
'Oh yeah. He already had headache beforehand and you ask him stupid questions and make him explain basic things. And not to forget the "moral" part. Want to hear the review?' Mike questioned, 'He gets irritated from less.'
'Like I care. I have my own problems,' Kai growled. Mike didn't lose his smirk.
'I have never seen Sir this pissed off before,' Tina said from the stairs. Both Kai and Mike looked up and saw Tina leaning against the railing.
'It appears he got scene from the future again and also a tense one. Those cause him very bad headaches. Imagine your head blowing up,' Mike described.
'Scene from the future? Oh right, he sees future without his consent sometimes,' Kai thought. He could also imagine head blowing up, literally.
'I have a clear enough picture since last time,' Tina giggled, 'It looks like his little brother is not helping the problem with his so called problems,' Tina mocked with no problem.
'Don't talk like I'm not here,' Kai warned.
'She got it that right. It's only matter of time Sir explodes,' Mike couldn't agree more.
'Not my fault. You're the one mocking here!' Kai cursed.
'Be careful boy. Sir can hear you and when he's angry. Well, you know the result,' Tina smiled.
'Whatever,' Kai sighed, went to his room to get his jacket and left the mansion.
'What a moron,' Tina laughed and disappeared from the stairs.
'You couldn't be more right Tina,' Mike thought smirking. Luckily, Kai was smart enough to leave it that. Mike could sense the tension behind the office doors and if they had continued this, someone would have broken some limbs at least.
Next morning Tyson was stuffing his face with breakfast as usual. Despite asking Tyson to eat calmly it either went over his head or he just didn't care. In the end it was just Tyson's "style" of eating. He loved food.
'You're going to choke up some day,' Kenny complained.
'Don't worry about it. We have some time before our flight back home. Let's go to park,' Tyson suggested.
'Why park?' Max asked, 'Practice?'
'Yeah. I'm excited. I need to practice and battle Kai,' Tyson said firmly.
'I should have known,' Kenny chuckled.
'It's good to practice every chance you get. We will tell you when it's time to get back,' Dickenson said. Boys agreed and after eating they left for the park which wasn't far away. White Tigers had returned to their home town and All Starz plane had already left earlier the morning.
Tyson was running up a head and found a good spot for practice match. He and Max fought for a while and even Kenny practice blading for a bit. On the corner on his eye Max noticed something next to the screen.
'Guys?' Max called out and pointed at the tree. They walked closer and Tyson was first to recognize Kai behind the hood.
'Dude? Why are you wearing that thing in this weather?' Tyson asked confused. Kai peeked under the hood and stood up.
'Why are you here?' Kai asked. He sounded annoyed.
'Practicing but what about you? What happened to you? Fight with that jerk?' Tyson guessed.
'Almost,' Kai answered.
'Almost?' Max frowned.
'I…' Kai stopped himself. He never talked about his thoughts to them before and he wasn't about to start now.
'You can tell us. I'm going to keep my mouth shut,' Tyson promised while making cross against his chest.
'It's too complicated. Let' just say that he annoyed me but he was right as well,' Kai simplified his sentence enough for Tyson to understand.
'About what?' Kenny asked this time. They are as curious as always. Kai thought for a moment.
'My… big brother has a lot on his mind and needs… space but I haven't given it to him. I just… kept complaining about things. He's apparently about to explode,' Kai spoke quietly. He hated this feeling he was having. He didn't feel like Christian was his brother but what he could do.
'That sounds bad. Maybe I can help and ease his mind a bit,' Tyson suggested but Kenny pulled him back.
'I think you won't be any help,' Kenny laughed worryingly.
'It's fine. I'm giving his space right now. See ya,' Kai said and turned away. He wasn't sure why but he didn't want to stay here.
'Then let's us treat you something. Come one,' Tyson grabbed Kai's arm before he could protest.
'Hey!' Kai growled but Tyson ignored him.
'Wait up!' Max shouted happily and ran behind them with Kenny.
At the mansion Sara knocked on Christian's door but there wasn't an answer.
'Still not answering?' Rick asked quietly.
'No. What helped him last time when this happened?' Sara tried to remember but it had happened couple hundred years ago last time. He did get those flashes of the future often but tense once which hurt more rarely but more likely to happen.
'No… Sorry,' Rick replied as Christian opened the door but he looked like train had driven over him.
'Can we somehow help Sir?' Sara asked.
'Rick can. He needs to get Kai back here,' Christian stated.
'Exposure?' Rick asked.
'Little as possible. Kai should be with his former teammates and if they see you don't worry about it for now. Just get Kai out and bring him back here,' Christian replied before closing the door again.
'Weird but worrying. Stay with Sir Sara,' Rick said before covering himself up and leaving.
'I wonder what Christian saw for him to be so worked up?' Sara thought. She hasn't seen Christian look like that before either. He must have spent entire night using his power to see different futures to get sense of them.
Tyson was stuffing his face with ice cream.
'Can you slow down Tyson?' Kenny asked with wide eyes. Other people were watching them too just like in the restaurant in USA during the tournament. Kai eyed the ice cream in front of him. He had taken a taste but it didn't taste anything. It was more like sand.
'Is something wrong?' Max asked.
'No,' Kai quickly answered, 'Forget it.' He took another bite from the ice cream and almost cringed again from the taste.
'You don't like ice cream?' Tyson asked with mouth full of food.
'Just a little bit but you make me lose my appetite,' Kai stated firmly. 'As always,' small voice whispered in his head again. Maybe he should have asked Christian to wipe his memory also.
'Me? I'm not!' Tyson protested.
'Hate to break it to you but he's not the only one,' Kenny agreed.
'What can you do? It's Tyson we are talking about here. Ray…,' Max stopped for a moment, 'Ray was the one who pointed that out.' Silence surrounded them beside the usual public noises.
'Yeah,' Tyson wiped his eye, 'I'm going to remember him by being myself.'
'Tyson's right. Let's do that. You with us?' Max stated and asked the rest.
'Definitely! How about you?' Kenny turned to Kai who kept his eyes towards the table. He felt sick to his stomach and… guilt. He was the one who got Ray killed but others didn't know that or remember it at least. He felt others eyes on him and waiting for answer that he couldn't give. Being himself when he didn't know who he was?
'I… I need to go,' Kai stood up and headed out quickly as possible. He couldn't stay there any longer and walked into the alley to hide. This time he leaned against the wall to prevent anyone creeping up behind him. But his hiding place didn't last long.
'Hey. What's wrong? Did we make you uncomfortable?' Tyson appeared with others rather fast.
'Nothing, it's fine. Go back,' Kai tried to push them away as usual but they were stubborn which hadn't changed a bit.
'We can talk about something else and just enjoy the ice cream. Yours is going to melt,' Tyson said and got poked on the side.
'You only think about the food,' Max stated with a smirk. Kai watched them talk or rather bicker when he sensed something. Kai stepped away from the wall and looked towards the alley.
'Something wrong?' Kenny asked.
'Nothing… It's… I don't know,' Kai concentrated and felt his eyes hurt but suddenly he could see better in the dark and further away. What he saw shocked him and he couldn't believe his eyes.
'Go back,' Kai stated firmly.
'Why…' Tyson began but Kai interrupted.
'Just go,' he even gritted his teeth showing his anger.
'Fine,' Tyson stated. Kai heard him say 'jerk' behind his back while they left.
'Damn hearing,' Kai thought and walked slowly forward. As he walked closer he could see the… person in front of him standing weirdly. Skin was grey and saliva covered the mouth and also the chin. Out of nowhere the person launched forward and Kai barely had time to dodge. It was fast. Kai had to immediately dodge again as person kept attacking. Fifth time he grabbed the person by his arms and held him back. It was clear person wasn't on his right mind but still clever. Person kicked with his towards Kai's leg and they fell down, the person on top of Kai.
'Shit,' Kai cursed and kept his hold on the arms. As he was trying to think what to do the person flew off of him. Kai quickly sat up and saw Rick kick the person's head off.
'You seriously need to fight back,' Rick stated with his usual expressionless look.
'What was that thing?' Kai stood up ignoring Rick's comment. He had enough of them already.
'Looks like a ghoul,' Rick answered and kneeled down to examine the person closer.
'Ghoul? Seriously?' Kai stepped next to him.
'I haven't seen them in hundreds of years. Last time it was a slaughter. I wonder… Did Sir saw this in his vision?' Rick pondered.
'Christian send you?!' Kai asked puzzled.
'Why so surprised? Of course he did. I have been watching you for a while to get you but your friends were little too… close. Sir told me not to expose myself to them or to anyone. I wonder if this was the reason,' Rick spoke a long time.
'Let's go,' Rick said after he destroyed the ghoul entirely. There was no trace. Without a word Kai followed Rick back. This time he was glad to have pushed Tyson and others away when he was able. Who knows what could have happened?
At the hotel Tyson dropped on the bed annoyed.
'What's wrong with that jerk? Getting angry at as over nothing,' Tyson complained.
'He must have had a reason though. Besides, we did kind of followed him when he clearly wanted to be alone. You could see it a mile away,' Kenny explained.
'I know but something was bothering him and why didn't he answer your question. It's a simple answer,' Tysons sat up.
'Again Tyson we don't know him so well. We literally just met and we don't know what's going on. Didn't he say that he had a fight with that friend of his, apparently about his big brother or something,' Kenny reasoned.
'Yeah right, "friend". That guy is bigger jerk,' Tyson snorted. Just then Tyson's grandfather stepped in the room.
'What's up peeps? I hear that someone is calling someone with bad names again,' Mr. Granger said.
'Come one grandpa… Sorry, alright,' Tyson raised his hands. He didn't want to get his by the kendo stick again. Bruce and Dickenson came too with worried looks.
'It looks like there was trouble,' Bruce said. Kenny explained to them everything that had happened so far.
'That is a problematic. Could the fight be about the thing Kai says? For not belonging here?' Bruce wondered.
'You think way too deep there. Why would it?' Mr. Dickenson asked.
'It's just that…' Bruce started.
'What is it dad?' Tyson asked concerned. Everyone were worried now as well.
'It's just reminds me of a friend who thought the same and had trouble with his father about it. You remember him Stanley, don't you? Susumu Hiwatari,' Bruce questioned.
'Aa, yes I remember but didn't he die?' Dickenson asked. Bruce looked sad and was quiet for a moment.
'Yeah…' he finally said.
'Dad, how did your friend die?' Tyson asked.
'He was apparently murdered but killer was never found. No clear evidence,' Bruce sound annoyed but who could blame him.
'I think I have picture of him somewhere with me as a memory. I can show it when I find it,' Bruce said.
'We can talk about it later. I was about to ask you about flight tickets back to Japan. All Starz are leaving tomorrow,' Dickenson said.
'I'm ready to go,' Kenny said. Max agreed with Kenny but Tyson was hesitant.
'I was thinking of staying though,' he said.
'Why? There's not tournaments or parties,' Kenny wondered, 'It's about Kai, isn't it?'
'No… yes. I want to have match with him. A proper one. Could we arrange beyblading tournament, small on or something. Like on in Japan when we first started?' Tyson asked. Dickenson chuckled slightly.
'I can think of something if it's about that. I also think that the reason for you want to stay is not just about beyblading him,' Dickenson said.
'Thank you Mr. D,' Tyson celebrated.
'In that case be ready to train. If you want to battle Kai, you need to train,' Kenny opened his laptop and searched the video of their match from before.
'Oh man,' Tyson complained and everyone laughed. He was the same old Tyson.
At the mansion in the dark Rick and Kai had come back and had arrived to Christian's office.
'A ghoul? Again?' Christian sighed and rubbed his eye.
'Yes, Sir. May I ask what did you see in the vision?' Rick asked. He and Kai were the only ones in the office along with Christian.
'It was only the few seconds but very serious one since I got the headache. Still, I looked forward in time again. A disaster is coming and it looks like a repeat from centuries ago,' Christian answered.
'May I assume that ghouls attacked then as well?' Kai asked.
'Yes. It took all my energy to wipe the memories of everyone on the planet at the time. Of course it was ages ago and all those people have died one way or the other,' Christian took a sip of his drink.
'There's no way to know whose behind this?' Rick questioned.
'No. One set back of having to see future. To find out whose behind it is to see the clues in the vision and the old style detective work in other words,' Christian let out frustrated laugh.
'Who was behind it last time?' Kai asked. Christian was quiet and turned slightly towards the window.
'It was our so-called father,' Sara spoke out of nowhere. She had come in the room after sensing stress build up and she knew Christian didn't want to talk about him. Kai eyes widened and he glanced at Christian. Not only family trouble and saving their own lives.
'Is he doing it again or something?' Kai directed the question towards Sara this time.
'It can't be him because he's dead… as well as our mother,' Sara answered, 'They died couple of months after you were sent to your grandfather in Japan. You were small child at the time.'
'How? What? I don't even understand our age difference or you explanation from before! You never explained it!' Kai slowly started to raise his voice.
'Look. Let's talk about it later. I promise you that but now we have a ghoul problem. If there's one, there's more,' Sara stated very firmly. They were avoiding the questions about their family. He felt stupid though for not knowing that his parents were dead but then again he didn't wonder about it or ask. He had lived with grandfather so long.
'Then I'm going to try and find where that ghoul came from, Sir,' Rick said.
Right. Kai can join you. He needs practice in this field of work anyway. Questions?' Christian asked. Kai stayed quiet since Christian wasn't wrong but he did see Rick's slightly annoyed look. He didn't disagree with Christian though and just bowed slightly.
'You can leave now,' Christian said and closed his eyes. He was clearly tired and needed a rest. Everyone left without a word and even closed the door quietly.
'Let's start tomorrow. It won't look weird that way,' Rick suggested.
'Fine,' Kai answered and watched Rick leave, probably in his own room to rest as did others. Kai decided to follow their lead but today's events flew in his mind.
'What's going on now?' Kai thought as he fell asleep.
I hope you enjoyed.
