Chapter 6:

Many years ago. Humanity went through an evolution. The first recorded cases of super powered individuals were reported. Then all across the world, powers became more common. We began calling these strange powers, quirks. Then, like wildfire, they spread through the entire world. Now it's believed that almost 90% of the world's population has some kind of quirk. Almost overnight, the supernatural became the totally normal. However, there remained a few who were born without a quirk, called the quirkless. I would know about them because I used to be one of them.

My name is Izuku Midoriya, and this is how I became the world's greatest hero. But you already know that story. You know about how I inherited the quirk One for All from my idol, All Might. You know how I went to UA to train to become a hero, and how I became the number one hero in the world. However, in life, you never know what your future may hold so this is not the story of how I became the world's greatest hero. Instead, this is the story of how a new generation became something greater.

My Hero Academia Next Generation: New Heroes:

Shiho's POV:

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

"Uhhh!" I let out a great big yawn as I heard my phones alarming ringing. After taking a second to scratch my eyes and stretch, I realized something felt. Odd. After regaining my senses, I was able to see that I was not in my bed. Looking around, I saw the white walls of the Danger Room. That's when it all came back to me. The experiments, Mei, the detonate solution.

I looked down at the desk I was laying on to see multiple vials of the red substance. Way more than I'd remembered making. Way more than I needed. I smiled to myself as I realized I'd probably fallen asleep while working on them.

"Uhhh!" I groaned again as I got up from the chair I'd been sleeping in and cracked my back.

"I'm gonna need a chiropractor." I joked to myself while looking around to see if anyone was laughing. Only to remember that I was alone in the Danger Room.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

I cringed when hearing the familiar sound of my phones alarm. I was still pretty tired from the work I'd put in last night. So, I just slumped back down in my chair. Resting my head on the desk as I opened my phone to shut off the alarm.

"Ahhh!" I let out a sigh then the ringing stopped as I peacefully closed my eyes. Prepared to rest again from my hard work. However, that's when a thought crossed my mind. A horrible, awful thought.

"Why did I set that alarm again?" My eyes shot open and I shot up out of my seat.

"The entrance exam!" I yelled out as I grabbed my backpack off the side of the desk. I felt disgusting and sweaty from all my training. All I wanted to do was take a hot shower and a nap. But I didn't have time for that.

Quickly stuffing all of the detonate vials into my bag and filling the rest of it up with my plastic explosives, I knew it was now or never. I am ready, I will become a hero.

On that note, I raced out of the Hatsume support agency. Startling a couple of my co-workers and running down the street to the UA entrance hall. The place where all my training would be tested.

After a hasty run, I inevitably made it to the famous training hall for young heroes. I checked my phone to make sure and I was just on time. So, taking one deep breath, I turned the street corner and began to walk down the cement path to the entrance hall.

BAM!

While most students simply walked straight to the main building to make sure they could get in as early as possible. I however got side tracked as I saw a very interesting sight. My former friend turned bully, Usagi Bakugou stood in the middle of the path, and just punched a girl so hard she was quite literally sent flying across the grotto, landing in some bushes.

I didn't quite get a good look at the girl she punched but It was clear she had ticked off my former friend, and It was very much in character for her to punch her way out of her problems.

"Hhh!" I scoffed at seeing her smiling face as she spun around and walked away from the girl. Not even giving her the time of day. I so badly wanted to do something to stop her. I wanted to call her all the things I thought. A fraud. A coward. A loser.

However, I remembered the scar she left under my right cheek. I remembered all the beatings I got for being such a pathetic quirkless weakling.

"One of these days Luna." I whispered her childhood nickname under my breath as I clenched my fist and stared daggers at the back of her body sashaying away from me.

"One of these days I'll show you how strong I am." With a frown and the release of tension in my fist. I stepped out onto the cement covered path and walked through the grotto to the main training building. However, it didn't take long before someone recognized me.

"Hey Midoriya!" I let out a groan as I was not in the mood for someone to laugh at me for being here. Anyone who could recognize me likely knew about my "condition", and thus never gave me the time of day. However, I was met with a surprising sight.

"It's so good to see you!" As I spun around, I was met with a fast hug from a girl much smaller than me. She wrapped her arms around me and pressed her face into my breasts which made me blush a little. I was finally able to pry the girl off me, and that's when I saw her curly blonde hair, fang shaped teeth, blood red eyes, and her signature sacrificial dagger around her waist. I was immediately able to recognize this girl and I was happy to see her.

"Tsuna! It's nice to see you too!" I truly meant that as I pat the short little girl on the head. One look at the smiling girls face and any outsider would have no inclination she was the daughter of the famous villain, Himiko Toga. However, her daughter had been raised right by her father. She'd learned compassion, love, and joy. One thing I always knew, she would never be a villain.

"I see you're still as cheerful as I remember." I jokingly told her as she let out the cutest giggle.

"And I see you're as big as I remember." She punched me in the arm and even though it didn't hurt I could tell she'd gotten stronger. She'd always been quite the short-stack, standing at only 4'8. After getting punched, I finally took my eyes off the short girl and looked behind her to see someone else.

A much taller boy stood off to the side. Despite having an impressive frame, being very tall, and having muscles across his body. The boy still held back cowardly, fidgeting on his feet, and constantly looking around like he was scared someone would bump into him and he'd explode. All it took was one look at his black raven hair and his reserved fearful demeanor to figure out who this boy was.

"Hey Tetsu! I didn't see you there!" I told him as I stepped past the short girl to address her BFF. However, right as I approached him, he slinked away and covered his body with his arms looking like he was about to have a heart attack.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

I heard the beeping sound of the Tetsu boy's familiar heartbeat monitor as he clutched his arm and turned it to check his pulse.

"Christ Midoriya! Don't do that!" He snapped at me as he placed his hand over his heart and breathed a sigh of relief. "You know what happens when my heart rate goes up!"

"Huh, still scared of your own shadow?" I jokingly asked the boy as I turned to face his blonde friend who gave me a knowing smirk. He just looked at the ground almost shamefully.

"You two here for the exam?" I asked them both as Toga simply nodded and Testsu crept behind his friend to get away from me.

"That's right!" Toga answered with a thumbs up. "After I drop Nikko here off to his specialty test. I'll be joining everyone else in the regular exam."

I'd forgotten about one of the more recent additions to the exam process, specialty tests. One of the facets of the quirk-based society that had largely gone overlooked by the hero academies was that not all quirks were created equal. This was never a big problem until the hero, Hitoshi Shinsou, reached the number nine spot on the hero leaderboard. When asked in an Interview about how his hero classes had been when he was training. Shinsou provided an answer no one expected.

"I actually never had any hero classes."

This shocked not just the interviewer but all those who saw the video. He explained that when doing the entrance exam, his quirk "Brainwash" would provide no ability for him to destroy robots.

After airing, several other heroes and sidekicks came forward to speak of a similar story. The public became so shell shocked by this, the hero academies knew they needed to change their entrance exams. So, specialty tests were born.

The idea was that individuals with unique quirks would be given unique tests and would be evaluated by a panel of judges. This allowed students with quirks that were not tailor made for the regular exam to still be given a fair and honest chance.

"What about you? What are you doing here?" I cringed at hearing the blonde girl's words. I thought of all the lies I could tell. All the excuses I could make up to avoid the mockery. However, the more I thought of my options. The less I cared.

"I'm here for the exam too!" I confidently told them as they both stared at me with wide eyes.

"Really!?" Toga asked me as I simply nodded at the short girl's question.

"Really." I told her, standing my ground.

"Well, does that mean you finally… You know." She awkwardly fumbled with her words for a moment before lifting her leg up and swinging it down while making an explosion sound with her mouth. Clearly mimicking my father's "Manchester Smash."

"Ahh, no. No, I still don't have a quirk." I informed them as even Tetsu looked scared.

"Are you S-sure that's safe?" The cowardly boy asked me as he slinked further away from me like I was gonna attack him.

"No. But that's kinda the point." I told them.

"Well, just… Stay alive." Toga enlightened me as I just goofily nodded at her advice.

"Attention! Last call for all students! Last call for all students!" We heard the announcement and realized it was time to go.

"We gotta go." Toga told me as she just punched me in the shoulder once more and said, "See you in there!"

I waved goodbye as they walked away, laughing a little at seeing the taller bigger boy clutching to his tiny friend for dear life. Shaking my head at the boy's cowardly demeanor.

After they had left, I began to make my way over to the main building, ready to take my exam.

As I walked, I made sure to open my backpack to check all my supplies were in there, and sure enough it was full of not just the detonate solution but also the remaining plastic explosives. I smiled at realizing I was all set. However, because I was looking in my bag I wasn't watching where I was going and ran headfirst into one of the pillars around the grotto. This caused me to fall right onto my bum.

"Ow." I said to myself as I sat up, rubbing my head. As I began to get up, I saw a shadow fall over me about the size of a person. I spun around to see who it was, and I was met with an interesting sight.

"Hey, uh. You need a hand?" The blonde girl standing above me stuttered a little seeming unassured of herself. Nevertheless, she stuck out her hand to help me up.

"Uh, yeah sure." I blushed a little at the embarrassing nature of why I fell. As I got on my feet. I felt a little uncomfortable and I could tell the raggedy girl felt the same. We both just fidgeted a little in silence before I realized we were running out of time.

"We should probably just-"

"Yeah, yeah we should go." The girl chirped up and we both laughed a little at the awkward situation.

Making our way up the steps of the building and past the glass double doors of the entrance hall. We eventually ran straight into the large crowd of students signing into the exam. As we walked by, we saw some of the screens reminding us of some of the recent changes to UA's classes.

"And remember the number of hero courses at UA have been cut in half!" My mom, Uravity spoke out to everyone on a prerecorded video. "This is to ensure that only the best of the best can succeed. So, give it your all!"

Mom gave another one of her flashy smiles and thumbs up as all the students just rushed past her to get into the waiting room as fast as possible.

"Aspiring heroes, as most of you likely know, we have made some changes to the class structure." The electric hero, Charge Bolt proclaimed as the video repeated itself.

"Class sizes have been reduced to only twelve students per class." This time, the martial arts hero, Battlefist, was the one giving a speech.

"And remember the number of hero courses at UA have been cut in half!"

The video came back around as we moved onto get checked in. However, as we walked into the big crowd of students, me and the blonde girl got separated. I almost lost her until I saw her a few feet away from me, walking into a separate booth.

"Hey, what's your name?!" I yelled out to her as I figured it would be weird for us to go our separate ways without exchanging names.

"Oh uh, Izumi, Hana Izumi!" She shouted this out before getting lost in the crowd.

My whole world stopped for a moment. Hana? Hana. Hana! I thought about it for a moment, and I remembered that name. I remembered that night, it felt like yesterday.

"I just see a lot of me in this girl." I was about to walk into the kitchen when I heard these words. It was very clear they were coming from my father, but that was never the question. The question was who was "This girl."?

"Hana was just dealt a bad hand, and I want to help anyway I can. She would be perfect. It's like she has all the fire and determination I've been looking for in a pupil. She's already so strong, and with One for All, she could become a great hero! Maybe even better than me!"

At this point, I had long since stepped out into the kitchen. Ready to surprise dad and ask who this girl was. However, in the worst way possible I got my answer.

I really had nothing to say, even when mom and dad both realized I was there and turned to face me I just couldn't say anything. I had so many thoughts rumbling through my head. But three seemed to be most clear.

"W-what?"

"How could you!"

"I understand. Bye."

With that. I just ran. I had to be somewhere else, so I grabbed my jacket to cover my sweaty body. Sweat being spent on what HE needed me to do. The training HE wants for me. But that didn't matter now. I fully understood that all that effort, meant Jack shit to Deku.

Then in a snap, I was back to reality. Excited students were pushing past me. Long time friends were reminiscing over their quirk and their futures as pros, and I was just left in the middle.

Clenching my fist, sucking in my gut, and nodding my head. I spun around and walked up to the entrance booth. Not caring for these ingrates, I shoved them all out of my way, and slammed my personal documents on the table.

"Shiho Midoriya for the entrance exam!"

Hana POV:

"She seemed nice." I thought to myself as I continued to press forward through the crowd of aspiring heroes to reach the waiting room. The sign in process was rather simple, all they really needed was some information about myself in the form of a document Deku had helped me fill out.

"Full name?" A tired and clearly worn out employee ask me as she gave me an exhausted look.

"Um, Hana Izumi." I replied rapidly, trying to release her of the pain she was clearly in. She then signed my name, stamped the ticket, and handed the papers back to me.

"Just go straight ahead and." She let out a big yawn as her eyes drooped further. I immediately wondered how much sleep this girl had gotten, but I was one to talk. Or rather think.

"And, into the waiting room." She finished and I just lightly said "thanks" as I slunk away hoping to relief her pain.

After walking through another crowd, I was finally able to make it to the waiting room, and. Wow. To say it was packed would be an understatement. When they said waiting room, I imagined something like in a doctor's office, but this was more like a theater. Like the kinda place a band would play, and every seat was filled.

I once more, knelt down and tried to just keep a low profile as I crept into a nearby seat. However, right as I sat down, I immediately felt something slap me in the face. It wasn't like getting punched, I knew what that was like. It was more like someone stretching their arms and mistakingly hitting you. Looking to my right I saw what had hit me.

"Ahh." A tall boy let out a sigh as he sat in the seat next to me. If you were to look at him from the front, he would seem normal. Being tall, having dirty blonde hair and wearing a leather jacket with jeans. He looked like quite the heart throb. However, sticking out of his back were two large wings. That wasn't the strange part though. The strange part was that rather than being made up of feathers, both appendages seemed to be entirely made of ice. And the way they coiled back into small little humps; I could tell that's what had hit me.

"Uhh, hey! Didn't see you there!" I tried to put on a brave face for the handsome boy, giving him a less than confident smile. However, my apology was only met with a disappointed side glance. That's when I saw his dark grey eyes. They seemed even colder than his wings.

"Ah, yeah well. I'm Hana." I introduced myself again feeling very scared as I was once more met with silence.

"Those wings are pretty cool. Haha." I forced a laugh as his cold expression never broke. I gulped a little, afraid he might attack me out of annoyance. Luckily, the lights began to dim, and I could feel someone was coming up to make some kind of pre-exam speech.

"Oh, thank god." I whispered to myself, euphoric that I had a distraction.

"Ronin." I spun my head to the side as I saw the boy looking exactly the same. The same cold expression and not even giving me a side glance. I thought for sure I was hearing voices until.

"My name, it's Ronin." This time I clearly saw his lips move as he finally cracked a cheeky smile before turning back away from me and adopting his cold expression once more. I just lightly grinned at his words before my eyes were pulled off him to the front of the theater.

"Welcome all you young heroes!" I heard a voice yell up on the theaters stage. Right under the gold UA logo spinning on the screen was the hero whose voice we had just heard.

"Are you all ready to rock out!" The punk rock hero, Earphone Jack, yelled to all the students. A call that only led to silence.

"Geez tough crowd!" The rock performer, too used to having an uncooperative audience spun her embarrassing display into a joke.

The heroine was wearing her classic hero outfit. The simple black jacket, black jeans, pink undershirt, and small tears under her eyes gave off quite the rockstar look.

Her support items, the supersonic speakers, were strapped to her knees and the bass guitar across her back completed the look.

The only other noticeable part being her bobbed blue hair and long earlobes that doubled as auxiliary cables.

"Let's just cut to the chase shall we!" She wasn't phased by her joke falling flat as she gestured up to the screen as it finally changed to follow along as she explained.

"As most of you know, for this exam you will be divided up into several groups." The screen then flashed with seven different boxes each adored with a letter from A-G. That's when I looked down at the card the registration officer had stamped. Sure, enough right on it was the gold letter A.

"However, each of your exams will be exactly the same! Each of you will be competing to gain points! You will be doing this by facing off against some of the most powerful robotic contraptions UA's support heroes have cranked out!" This time, the screen changed to show the silhouettes of a multitude of deadly looking robots. Some having long blades, some having long gun barrels. Each one looking somehow more terrifying and intimidating than the last. Each one accompanied by a number ranging from one to three.

"And make no mistake." The normally chipper and excitable pop star's voice took on a low tone all the sudden.

"These machines. They are designed for one purpose." She told us as her face finally shrank and the grin she seemed to always bear shifted.

"To kill you."

A collective chill ran through the entire student body present as Kyoka Jirou delivered her dramatic warning.

"So, I would highly recommend not showing any mercy. Because you will receive non." As if it was even possible, I felt even more worried after hearing her final words.

"But don't worry too much!" Then in an instant the happy pop star voice came back, and it was like nothing had happened.

"We have specialty medics on every site to patch you up!" She gave up a rousingly cheer as most of us still didn't respond.

"So, go out there and rock those bots!" The pop star delivered her last point as she finally pulled her signature bass guitar off her back and playing some cords.

We all took this as a sign to start moving start moving to our designated areas. Looking down at my card once more, I saw the gold A and looked around for a bit till I saw a bunch of doors near the front of the stage that had a matching letter on the front. I was able to find the A one and nodded to myself as I had my destination.

"Oh, and one more thing!" We all stopped moving as the punk rock hero had something else to add.

"There is one more enemy you will be facing." She told us as the screen changed one more time to show a image that sent chills down the spine of every student present.

Being half red and half blue, having long sword like claws, rocket thrusters on its legs, grenade shaped gauntlets, and standing almost as tall as a skyscraper. The final robot showed off looked like a death machine.

"This is the one-million-point robot." Earphone Jack told us as other images of it began to appear. Some of it dismantled some of it in action.

"Created by reverse engineering the quirks of UA's finest heroes, this monster is worth more points than any you could possibly earn in the arena." That sounded enticing.

"However, this is the most dangerous weapon any of our support heroes have ever created." I gulped as Mrs. Jirou's somber tone came back again.

"If you destroy this robot, you guarantee yourself a place in one of the hero courses. But since it's creation, not a single student has been able to even scratch it. So, I would highly recommend choosing your battles carefully because it's not just enough to know how to destroy your enemies. You also need to know how to protect your allies."

As scary as it might have been, Kyoka Jirou's speech ended on an uplifting note.

"And make sure to go beyond!"

"PLUS, ULTRA!"

Practically everyone in the auditorium joined in when the heroine gave her rousing battle cry.

That's when the doors changed colors and glowed and I knew it was time to fight as I merged into the crowd of students traveling through the door marked A.

"I can do this." I said to myself as the images of the mangled and deadly robots flashed through my mind, and I thought of all the violent ways they could mutilate me.

"Remember young Izumi! Courage is not the absence of fear! But merely acting in spite of it!" I heard Deku's words echo through my ears as I remembered one of the speeches he made while I was carting junk around that old warehouse. I was finally able to internalize his words as they gave me knew meaning.

I was sure as hell scared, but I continued to put one foot in front of the other in spite of it.

"I will become a hero, who saves people with a smile!" I remembered Deku's old moniker as I attempted to adopt his signature ear to ear smile. As goofy as it might have looked, it sure did help me feel brave.

Then, as the harsh sunlight touched my face, and I saw the bus that would take me and my fellow aspiring heroes to the metropolitan arena. I felt that same fear comeback.

But much like on the train platform, much like in the warehouse, and much like at that fruit stand. I just put one foot in front of the other and ventured.

With feat in my gut, a smile on my face, and hope in my heart. I climbed onto the vehicle. No turning back now.

3rd Person POV:

All the students acted differently during their trips to the exams training area.

Katsumi Kirishima, hung out in the back of her transport bus and talked with many of the other students. Even the ones she had never met could tell she was quite the social butterfly.

Akhiko Ojiro, sat farther away from his purple friend. Most other students did not want to sit next to him because of his dirty clothes and horrible smell. But he didn't mind. He just kept fiddling with some of the lint in his jacket pocket with a smile on his face.

Yue Todoroki, sat by himself as well. There was no one he recognized in his bus, but that wasn't why he was alone. Yue was alone because he was angry. He desperately needed something to destroy and seeing the tall skyscrapers they were driving to. The Todoroki boy knew he would get his wish.

Usagi Bakugou, also sat alone, but it wasn't out of anger or contentment. Rather, it was out of vanity. Propping her feet up on the seat next to her and getting comfortable. Flipping her long luscious blonde locks over her shoulder. She never so much as addressed the students surrounding her. In her mind, they were all just steppingstones to reaching the top. The top she deserved.

Shiho Midoriya didn't care about any of the students around her either. However, her thoughts were not motivated by vanity, but rather disgust. Most just ignored her as she clutched her backpack for dear life. Most were too happy as they playfully fought each other and joked around. Some using their quirks for silly party tricks. This pissed her off a great deal. A quirk was a gift, and these ingrates were disrespecting their gifts.

Tsuna Toga was in the back of her bus goofing off with an old friend of hers, Katsumi Kirishima. All the students continued to make jokes about her height, but she just laughed it off with them. Her euphoria only took a brief pause when she saw Shiho Midoriya glaring daggers at them. She grew worried for her friend but shooting her a thumbs up and a smile was all the little Toga could do.

Nikko Testsutestsu sat alone. Sitting ready to be called in for his specialty exam. Head in hands, he shook his head, beyond anxious. Only hoping they brought all the necessary precautions for his test.

Finally, there was Hana Izumi. The bus being consumed by silence and having no one to talk to. She simply looked around to size up her "competition". Some of their quirks were hard to make out from just looking at them. Some were more obvious. The one she did recognize was that boy from earlier. Ronin. Still looking coldly, and not giving anyone else a glance, she could tell he was confident.

A level of confidence shared by all the students. A level of confidence she did not have.

All these other people had years to train, years to develop their quirk. But her, she'd just got her's this morning, and the only training she had under her belt was a couple months of lugging trash around.

Add onto that, she didn't even know how to use this power, and she couldn't help but feel out matched.

But… that surge of energy from before. That feeling of power when she wanted to punch Usagi Bakugou. Was that One for All?

Either way, she wasn't gonna have a lot of time to find out.

A/N: It would really help me if you could give me any feedback. I appreciate the reviews and hope to see more. I have a lot of thoughts about the future of this series but it's hard for me to be critical so I would love an outside opinion on the story.
