Weeks Later

Overhearing Peyton gush over the engagement night that took place with Jake. Made me feel overjoyed and hopeful. But if i was honest. I'm also left with jealousy. Having been married twice already i had no engagement story.

With Felix it was an impulsive decision. That i made wanting to lose my virginity. We were so young and barely knew ourselves. There was no honeymoon. Neither of us could afford that.

With Julian it was all a business arrangement. He was never not working or out of town.

It was starting to become more clear to her now that she was older. The marriages were her attempts at not spending her life alone.

"I want to help in any way i can." Brooke announced. With a wide smile.

Peyton smiled back at her best friend. "Would you be my maid of honor.?" She asked.

"I would be honored." Brooke replied. Pulling her into a tight hug.

"You're getting married!" Brooke proclaimed. The emotion in her voice thick.

...

Brooke and Lucas have spent the days after their second date with each other whenever free time allowed it. If they weren't able to see each other. They were in constant contact texting or talking for hours.

Tree Hill Elemetary School

"Mr. Scott after testing being given to both of you're sons. We are able to diagnose Larry with ADHD." The woman announced.

Lucas's eyes went wide at the revelation.

"To be clear. This based off of circumstances out of Larry's control. Most times it is passed on through gentics. Being born early. the mother smoking or drinking during pregnancy, stress during pregnancy. There is no direct cause."

"Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Affects 8.4 percent of children. It's seen more in boys then girls. Disruption in the classroom or problems with schoolwork are the first few signs of the disorder amongst other things."

"There are three types. inattentive type, hyperactive/impulsive type or combined type. Larry has the hyperactive/impulsive type."

"Symptoms of that are Fidgets with or taps hands or feet, or squirms in seat.

Not able to stay seated (in classroom,Runs about or climbs where it is inappropriate.

Unable to play or do leisure activities quietly.

Always "on the go," as if driven by a motor.

Talks too much.

Blurts out an answer before a question has been finished (for instance may finish people's sentences, can't wait to speak in conversations).

Has difficulty waiting his or her turn, such as while waiting in line.

Interrupts or intrudes on others (for instance, cuts into conversations, games or activities, or starts using other people's things without permission. Does any of that behavior sound familiar with him.?" The woman asked.

Lucas could only nod his head. His mind spinning.

"How can i help him.? What can be done going forward.?" Lucas questioned.

It was then the woman handed over pamphlets.

"Educate yourself. Consult his doctor about him being put on medication and undergoing therapy." The woman advised.

"Thank you." Lucas replied.

It wasn't until Lucas left the school and got back into his car.

The symptoms of the behavior brought back memories of not only Larry throughout his life but Rachel as well.

Memories began to flood him.

Her hands tapping the table. As she jumped from seat to seat.

"Why can't you sit down and calm down. You're always all over the place.?" Lucas asked.

"My mind isn't wired right. I don't know what it is. But something is off. Isn't that why that woman is here to monitor my visit with my own children.?" Rachel asked. Pointed to the social worker seated at the table a few steps away.

"It's court ordered. Just enjoy you're time with the boys." Lucas replied.

"My parents are going to get my rights removed. They don't believe that i'm sober. That it's sticking this time. Without Larry and Leo. What do i have to live for.?" Rachel revealed.

Lucas's eyes reopened. He loosened the grip on the steering wheel. Swallowing hard. As he drove back to his house.

When he got back into the house. Larry was awaiting him in the entryway.

"What did that lady say about the results of the test i took.?" He asked.

"Let's sit down and talk about it." Lucas replied.

Larry nodded his head and raced into the living room.

"I was wrong. To punish you. You are officially no longer on punishment of any kind. You have a behavior disorder called ADHD. With help from medication and behavior therapy. You should be able to manage symptoms from it alot better. I'm sorry for puting all the blame on you. None of this is you're fault."

"I'm going to do all i can to help you. I love you my boy so much." Lucas stated.

"I love you too daddy. And it's okay." Larry replied.

Lucas engulfed his son in a tight hug.

Making a silent promise to learn all he can about this disorder and ensure his son has the most fufilling life in spite of it.

...

Awhile Later

With the news of Peyton's engagement and news of her moving out still ringing in her ear. Brooke was at last able to have some time to herself.

She stared down at the scars on her stomach that she normally hid.

Tears welling up in her eyes as she clutched the necklace around her neck. She left her bedroom and went into the kitchen.

She took out a cupcake. Put a candle on it. And lit it.

Brooke closed her eyes. And made a wish.

"I hope you're happy, safe and loved. Happy birthday. My beautiful baby." She said out loud to the empty room.

She then blew out the candles and put the cupcake away in the fridge.

Brooke signed the birthday card every year love mom. Knowing it would just stay in a box. Unsent. In the back of her closet.
