Disclaimer: I don't own any harry potter or original characters. I did change a few ages of harry potter character but it made more sense for the story this way.

Runes class

It didn't take as long to start adjusting as she thought it would. She has had a few classes so far and the knowledge she has from Salvatore school transferred to her new subjects pretty easily. She even recognizes a few names from different textbooks over the years. Part of the ease seems to be due to her being at a magical institution for years longer than her classmates. She started at Salvatore school when she was about 7 years old and has lived there almost all year round until a few months ago. The other kids in her classes have only been formerly learning magic for about 5 years versus Hope's 8. So most of her classes have been going pretty smoothly the biggest issue is getting used to the wand. So far she has had Potions where the wand was almost never used and she did really well, Transfiguration was where she hit a snag with the wand movement but her wording was spot on, same issue with charms. Those were the only classes she has had so far but today she had flying and Runes. Flying was new to her but she had it with her housemates and Daphne was a great help getting her off the ground and circling for a while before the end of class. It was a lot of fun for a Hope and she acclimated to the height and speed really easily. The professor even told her about something called Quidditch tryouts coming up and that her balance and control were great advantages for a few of the positions. She said she would think about it never having been one for team sports or really working with others period. But the professor insisted that she at least look into the sport and something called a beater. She agreed and headed back to her dorm so she could get her books for runes class. It is going to be her first class without Daphne or Theo.

She got to the class earlier but still later than she wanted, the school was bigger than she thought and Hope found herself getting lost everywhere she went by herself. But she found it eventually and strategically found a seat off to the side near the back, not quite the back row but one in front of it at a table to the far right away from the door but giving her an almost full view of the room without looking obvious. She found this was the best seat in any class to keep her focused while also allowing her senses to feel for anything astray that she couldn't see. She was getting comfortable when more kids started walking into the class and Hope remembered that because this was an elective it had kids from every house. So she sat with a watchful eye on the door and tracking every one that came in trying to use her new wolf sense to detect any threat or negative feeling. It was a fairly complicated skill and one Hope had yet to master but she has been sensing off in the school and was using this as a chance to practice. None of the students seemed threatening or even the least bit intimidating. Most of them didn't even give off any string vibes (power or emotion). That is until a kid walked in talking to two other boys. The boy Hope sensed right away had a lot of power but it wasn't overpowering like hers was to people. More like it was just sitting in him waiting to be used, Where hers constantly felt like it was ready to explode and take over. Really looking at him she knows she has felt this sensation before but it wasn't this close or she would remember. He had red hair quite like that boy at the opening meal. Just then her focus is shifted as the three boys break out laughing and the red head's laugh sounds like real happiness. Something Hope wasn't sure she could even recognize anymore, let alone feel. Slightly angry at this kid for freely feeling something that has been so rudely ripped form she is distracted from her surroundings to the point of someone sitting next to her and she doesn't even notice until they reach out to tap her shoulder. Her senses kick back in just in time for her to grab the offending arm and twist behind the person's back. Looking up after hearing a slightly manly screech she lets the arm go after realizing it belonged to the redhead she had been thinking about a few seconds earlier.

"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?" Hope asked

"I'm fine, but I'm sure my arm and shoulder will be sore for a few days. How do you know how to do that? It was really impressive and most people here don't really do things like that." Responded the redhead.

"I'm not from around here and where I grew up it was important to learn how to defend yourself in any way you could. So my dad and uncles taught all kinds of things. Oh I'm Hope by the way." Said Hope so quietly George barely heard her response.

"I know you are kind of famous around here. The only person people talk about more than you is Harry." Choosing to ignore the slightly surprised look on her face George quickly changed the subject. "I'm George by the way. I don't know if you've heard of me but my brother and I have caused quite a bit of trouble for some of your house mates in the past so I'm sure they talk about us all the time"

"No not really. They did warn me about the Gryffindor's as a whole but not any one person in particular. What exactly have you done that would make you so infamous?" Replied Hope, somewhat curiously.

"It's quite a list but mostly some harmless pranks here and there and the occasional harassing of snakes and teachers." Clearly bragging, George looked over at her with a massive grin, expecting some sort of praise or lecture.

"And by snakes you mean Slytherin. Because that's oh so original. What's the problem anywhere i can tell there is some big issue but no one has been able to tell be anything other then some big bad guy did a bunch of bad shit and a lot of people from Slytherin took his side and also did some bad shit. But it's not like they were the only people who helped him. I did a little research and lots of people helped that guy and there are many people who were in Slytherin that didn't so why hate the whole house." Hope replied quite accusingly to the red-head.

Not thrilled with Hope's statement George tries to defend the judgement. "Well I guess you have a point but people in Slytherin are known for being cunning and manipulative and that can be dangerous."

"Ya but all the houses have characteristics that can be dangerous. Ravenclaw are for the intelligent and many people in the world have done crazy things in search of knowledge. Hufflepuff are extremely loyal but it doesn't say what they are loyal too. And even your own house is known for being brave. In my experience being brave almost always ends up with someone getting hurt or even dying. Brave and bold are dangerous attributes for people who don't consider their consequences and act without forethought. So applying blind attributes to be people shouldn't define how everyone sees them. I'm in Slytherin and you chose to sit next to me and talk, and don't even know me. So clearly something about this while Slytherin philosophy isn't foolproof." Not giving up her argument she finishes her mini speech with a glare at the redheaded boy.

George tries to change the topic a little trying to diffuse the tension. "I guess you have a point there but you're from America and they were decidedly absent when our big bed rose his head the first time so it's safe to assume that your family weren't on his side."

"So it's family and not house that is the issue. Well my family is actually from all over the world. My father was closer friends with Dumbledore and my uncle has worked with Professor Snape in the past. And I know for a fact that a lot of people have an issue with him because of his involvement in the past, so what does that tell you about my family. And as an extension about me." Questions Hope.

"Snape has been seen as a changed man in recent years and Dumbledore is a notorious good man. So I'd say your family would be good guys and you being in Slytherin is a slip. You should probably be asked to be resorted." Replies George

Slightly taken aback by his suggestion she looks directly at him and asks. "Why? I have no problem being in Slytherin and if my parents were alive I'm sure my father would be immensely proud of the house I'm in. In fact I think the only house he would have a real issue with me being in would be Gryffindor."

Before George could respond the Professor walked in and started the lesson. George was left thinking for the whole class about what she could mean by her father having an issue with Gryffindor. It's the best house in the school and home to some of their worlds best heroes, and strongest wizards. He wasn't paying attention when the professor asked him a question about one of the ancient languages and as he realized she was talking to him he was about to be yelled at for one not paying attention dn two because by the time he was focused he didn't know the answer. Thankfully and somewhat annoyingly Hope answered for him and gave quite an extensive at that. The professor was clearly impressed with her answer and asked her if they learned about these things at her other school and that branched into a Q&A between her and Hope about different ancient languages and how they are covered in schools. By the time they had asked about 6 questions back and forth the class had ended and everyone was packing up to leave. George looked over at Hope and realised she seemed more at ease then he had seen her since she got here. Assuming it was because she enjoyed the class, he was about to get up and leave when something jumped into his lap. Startled for the second time that day he looked down and realized there was a little crump in his lap with its tongue out looking up at him. It was extremely cute and George instantly recognized it was Hope's as he had seen it with her during her sorting. Crump's aren't common pets especially for kids because they were notoriously hard to tame and train but this one seemed very gentle and relaxed whenever he had seen it around the school and was very friendly to everyone. Even Filch and his cat had no problem with it.

He looks over at Hope unsure what to do with the little thing when she smiles slightly at him clearly amused with his uncomfortable position, but eventually gestures to him that it's okay to pet the crump. George does so and its tail instantly starts wagging and the crump jumps up and starts licking George's face. At this point Hope whistles and the crump jumps off George and sits obediently on the ground beside her. George is shocked at the behavior between Hope and the crump. Hope sees the look on his face and explains that when she first got him she realized he had a slight issue with people and personal space she is trying to train it out of him with whistles and treats. It had been working fairly well and he hadn't done anything like this in a few days but she guessed he must really like George. She tells him the crumps name is Jackson and has been making more friends at school then she has. George laughed at the joke and then realized there was probably a lot of truth to the statement. Even with the little bit of time he has spent with Jackson and his owner there is a clear difference in personality and demeanor.
