"Who are you?"
"I'm a military officer and the leader of a government organization. You are my first assignment."
When Jake appeared at the restaurant, he told Olivia that he could give her the life she lived in her dreams. Until now, he had never disclosed any details about how he was doing this.
"What organization?"
"B6-13"
"What?"
"It's a shadow organization that controls the government. That's all I can tell you about it."
"So you are a real person?"
"None of this is real."
"What?"
"There is no such thing as real. Olivia, we all have millions of parallel lives. Who can say which life is real? Not me. I'm just a navy officer. In one life, you and I are standing in the sun."
"So I can keep choosing different lives until I find one I'm happy with?"
"No, life is not infinite and there are billions of other people waiting for their chance to live a different life. You get this one opportunity to find out what could have been if you made a different choice."
There was a knock at her door and Jake disappeared. He always seemed to appear when she was desperate for answers.
"Hi...Edison Davis...Wow...I haven't seen you since...political science class."
He laughed, "It's been two days Liv. Though it does seem longer than that. I brought Angelinaa lJolie movies and meatball subs."
"Uh...thanks. I'm starving. I only have water, popcorn and wine in my kitchen."
"So have you thought about us?"
"Like what?"
"He must have really hurt you."
"What…?"
Olivia chose her words carefully. Fitz was the President.
"He didn't hurt me. I want something different."
"Great, so are we a couple now?"
"I'm not leaving him."
Edison was disappointed. "You can keep the food." He said, before leaving her apartment.
A few minutes later, there was another knock. This time it was Fitz. He wasn't happy to see her. Olivia could see hurt and anger.
"Verna Thornton called me today."
"Okay."
"How long were you going to keep this from me?"
"What?"
"Defiance. Olivia, you didn't think I could win, so you stole it for me. That really hurts. We should have been a team. Instead it was you, Hollis, Mellie, Cyrus and Verna. I wanted to win this without cheating my way into the Oval."
"Fitz, I would never hurt you."
"I wanted to have babies and move to Vermont. I think about our perfect life together every day. You ruined us Livvie."
"We have a life together in Vermont."
"Goodbye Livvie."
"Fitz."
He left without giving Olivia a chance to explain her part in the scandal. Olivia sat on her sofa and covered her face with her hands. She was so confused. Who was she in this reality? A self-made woman who stole presidential elections? Why was everything always so urgent in this reality? Everyone she met spoke a mile a minute. They were always in a hurry. Since she started her day, she had met with Cyrus, Fitz wife, the guy who ran for class president, her team and investigated a plane crash. She needed a glass of wine after those meetings. Maybe having dirty socks thrown in her face every day wasn't so bad. There was another knock a few minutes after Fitz left and Olivia was ready to scream at her unwanted guest. Instead, she let Cyrus in her apartment.
"We're going to need something stronger than wine. He knows Liv. Verna told him everything. I had the job at Harvard. I turned it down. I could be running Harvard right now."
"I can't fix this!"
"He's talking about divorcing Mellie. Is that what you want, Liv?"
"Yeah, I want that."
"Listen to me Liv. This is not a romance novel. You do not get to live happily ever after with Fitz."
Olivia ignored Cyrus and answered her phone. It was Huck.
"Hello?"
"Liv, she's going to keep looking. I can fix that for you."
"Who?"
"Quinn. She's not giving up on this."
"What?"
"I can give her a drug that makes her pass out and hack her body into pieces and throw her in a landfill or the ocean. Whatever you prefer."
Olivia pulled the phone away from her ear. Was he serious?
"Work your magic and bring Fitz back to reality. Can you do that Liv?"
"I don't know."
Huck was still waiting for Olivia to give him the okay. Quinn was not a gladiator. Olivia hung up the phone.
"We can talk about this tomorrow. I need a glass of wine. Goodbye Cyrus."
