...

Turles noticed he was suddenly picking up flashes of what appeared to be memories but they were not his own. Kakarot's voice had furiously protested when he had pulled the Earth female into an embrace but the voice was weak, barely audible. Was Kakarot fading away as his own presence grew stronger in the form he now possessed? If Kakarot ceased to be...if so then his mate would no longer be bound to him. As a rule Saiyans mated for life but there were rare exceptions when a mate was lost early on. Perhaps Turles could literally step in and become Kakarot or "Goku" with no one being the wiser. The idea of losing his original body rankled Turles but strangely enough his present life had considerable appeal.

A horrified Goku realized he was losing his hold on his very existence. He couldn't let Turles step in and replace him for good! He had to stop the evil Saiyan from stealing his family, stealing his life...BUT HOW?

...

"Psst!"

Gohan looked up from his algebra book. Was someone trying to get his attention?

"Pssst!"

There it was again! The demi-Saiyan walked over and peered out of his bedroom window. He shook his head as he caught sight of Krillin giving a quick wave and pointing toward the rear of the house before disappearing behind it.

'I could always tell mom I stepped out for a bit of fresh air' Gohan thought with a sigh.

"Hey Krillin!"

"Hey there, Gohan. Can we talk for a bit? It's really important that we do, " Krillin suggested.

"Sure thing, I could use a little break from studying," the youngster readily agreed.

Krillin sat beside Gohan on the small bench at the edge of Chi-Chi's garden.

"Uhhh, Gohan haven't you noticed that your dad isn't acting like he did before and..."

"Yeah. Mom's real happy that Dad helps her a lot more than he used to, "Gohan cut in.

"Don't you find that a little strange?" the former monk pressed.

Gohan shrugged his small shoulders, "It is a little weird but it's nice seeing mom happy. You know she hardly yells anymore and mom doesn't mind so much now when Dad and I go finishing. She doesn't even complain when we're training together. I really need to get back to studying."

"But Gohan when Bulma came by.." Krillin began.

"Good to see ya, Krillin! Hope you have time for a spar or two!" "Goku" shouted as he strolled out from the house.

The bald Z-fighter gaped in astonishment. Instead of the standoffish manner "Goku" had displayed for some time he appeared to be his 'normal' self.

'Maybe it WAS just those wallops from Turles and our Goku's back!' Krillin thought hopefully.

...

"I'm telling you when I paid a visit to Goku and Chi-Chi's home I don't know who that man was pretending to be Goku but he certainly isn't Goku!" Bulma huffed.

"Chi-Chi wouldn't listen at all?" Yamcha asked.

"NO! She just dug her heels in insisting she knew her husband and she told me to LEAVE!" the bluenette fumed.

"Chi-Chi threw you out?" an incredulous Tien queried.

"Pretty much! And that fiend laughed in my face about it!"

"Sure sounds like Turles!" Piccolo snorted.

Before anything further could be discussed on the matter Krillin burst into the room.

"You know what guys? Goku's back to his ol' self again!"

"Somehow I find that hard to believe," Piccolo declared.

...

Gohan had decided to surprise his mom with a pancake breakfast. He stirred the dry ingredients together with a bit too much enthusiasm which caused a sizable amount of flour to shoot across the kitchen striking Turles directly in the chest. The annoyed Saiyan scooped up a handful of flour and pelted Gohan in the same manner. Of course the giggling youngster returned fire. Within seconds a full-blown flour fight ensured...

Chi-Chi screamed at the sight of her immaculate kitchen looking like a flour-coated war-zone. Turles was actually impressed as the very building around them seemed to shake at her cry. Before she could further react the Saiyan pirate had the startled female seated before a plate of steaming pancakes, eggs and bacon.

"Enjoy your meal while the MESS is being attended to."

A sheepish Gohan brought Chi-Chi a glass of orange juice, "Sorry mom. I wanted to surprise you."

Chi-Chi gaped in amazement as "Goku" cleaned the kitchen in an unbelievable burst of speed. The kitchen was spotless and she didn't have to lift a finger to prepare breakfast!

"WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY HUSBAND?"

Turles froze at the woman's words. Had she really known all along?

The Ox-king's daughter burst into laughter, "Of course I know it's YOU Goku! Now both of you sit down before the food's cold and then clean yourselves up!"

A happy Gohan and a relieved Turles took their seats.

...

Turles nodded with approval as Gohan was able to block most of the blows he aimed at the demi-Saiyan. He was not using his full strength against the youthful half-ling but the child had gained considerable speed and strength. Lowering his hands Turles advised Gohan to tend to his studies.

Gohan threw his arms around "Goku."

"I hope things are always like this. I love you Dad!"

"IT ISN'T ME GOHAN!" Goku struggled in vain to be heard.

Turles was unable to speak at all. He gave the brat a shaky smile and a pat which seemed to satisfy him.

A strange warmth bubbled within the full-blood Saiyan's chest. Turles had never been much for affection but it was becoming quite apparent that he now held some serious regard for Kakarot's progeny. And also for a woman with ebony hair.

All thoughts of the conquest of this planet faded. To bring harm to the world in which they existed would bring pain to the Earth female and her son. Turles no longer had the wish to do so. A sense of belonging here had come about instead of the temporary ruse that was initially planned. What would the Crusher Corps think of him now? The mighty Turles, scourge of Western Quadrant, doing chores, training with a child and falling for one woman...he didn't give a damn about what anyone thought. This was HIS life now!

...

Chi-Chi had pinned up her damp hair just long enough to hang out the laundry. Now having fully dried, her strands were rife with tangles and snarls. She raked her comb over one stubborn knot in particular.

"Don't tear it!" Turles scolded.

"I'm just trying to get some of these stubborn tangles out!"

Chi-Chi was speechless as "Goku" eased the comb from her hand. Strong but gentle fingers skillfully detangled and smoothed her tresses. Turles followed with strokes from the comb. The once unruly mass was now a silky midnight curtain. The brigand realized he'd be willing to perform this task for hours without a single complaint.

When the woman reached for the comb Turles looked up just in time for her lips to settle over his. The comb fell to the floor as he pulled her fully into his arms...
