Soooo...I'm back I guess? I know I haven't posted in forever but I'm going to try to start up again now. (I'm reuploading this chapter cause the formatting got messed up last time.
"So….if you choose to not sign the accords?" Aubrey Stark asked slowly, sitting on a crate in the back of the Quinjet that was currently speeding for London, England.
"Well..." Natasha answered while looking off into the distance out of the front window where clouds were speeding past them, "then you supposedly retire."
Aubrey opened her mouth to say something but lowered her head and said in a quieter voice, "and Steve doesn't want to sign?"
"Yes, Tony stopped arguing with him after we found out about Peggy's death" Black Widow replied.
Aubrey glanced over to where Steve Rodgers sat staring at the floor, his eyes out of focus. Aubrey vaguely recalled that he had a girlfriend before he was frozen in the ice back in the 40s. Aubrey supposed it must be pretty depressing to come back only to find out that the person you love is way older than you.
Natasha continued, "So Sam decided to side with Steve and not sign. Vision and your dad already did, Rhodes is still a little indecisive about what to do."
"What about Wanda and Clint?" Aubrey questioned back.
"Clint says he's retired, Wanda hasn't decided yet." Nat explained.
"Hmmm…" Aubrey murmured and stood up and straightened her jean skirt. "Well, thanks for helping explain." Natasha assured her it was no problem and Aubrey walked over to her assorted items spread across the back of the jet. She checked her reflection in a small mirror making sure her outfit looked nice. She had changed out of her old clothes and into a more appropriate outfit for disembarking off the jet. She knew photographers and reporters would be at the airport trying to talk to the Avengers about the Accords, and she didn't want to look like a hot mess getting off the plane.
As the plane touched down, Aubrey checked her phone and noticed her friends had finally started texting her. Becky was asking if she had left Miami yet, and Jessica and Selena were saying that they both stayed up way too late last night. Aubrey reassured her friends that she was alive and well in and about to land.
"Let's get this over with" Tony said.
Aubrey grabbed her suitcase as the back hatch lowered down to reveal a sunny, cool day. Her dad, Steve, Rhodey, Sam, Nat and Aubrey all walked out of the jet onto the runway. As the six of them made their way towards the cars designated to take them to their various locations, reporters and journalists ran across the tarmac taking pictures and yelling questions at the group.
"Mr. Stark, Mr. Stark! We've heard rumors that some of you will not be signing the accords, can you elaborate?"
"Captain Rodgers! How has the sudden death of Margaret Carter affected you?"
"Ms. Romanoff! Would you suggest that the events in Nigeria have brought on these new proposed laws for enhanced individuals?"
On and on the questions and the flashes of cameras went until airport security held back the mob and they were safely able to make it into their cars. Before Aubrey shut the door to the car, her dad poked his head in.
"Hey behave yourself, okay?"
"Of course!" Aubrey rolled her eyes, trying to shut the door.
Her dad blocked the door, "Behave! If this stuff turns south, we don't want any more publicity than we are already going to get."
"Fine!" Aubrey said.
"Okay, I'm going to Vienna for the signing of the accords, love you." Tony replied and shut the car door.
She slid into one of the front seats and noticed Happy was driving the car.
"Happy! Why are you here?" Aubrey asked, surprised.
"I'm here to keep an eye on you and make sure you don't do anything crazy."
"Why does everyone think I'm crazy?"
"Please walk this way and down the aisle." An usher guided Aubrey Stark and Happy Hogan, (who was acting as her bodyguard/overprotective mom.)
Aubrey carefully sat down on the velvet cushioned pew and let out a long sigh. The past hour had been a whirlwind of makeup, dresses and smiles and handshakes. Now Aubrey was sitting in a fancy church at a funeral for someone she had only met once.
Soon after they sat down, organ music began to play, and everyone stopped their somber chatter. Aubrey could hear sounds from the back of the church and chorus boys from the back of the church began to sing. A slow procession moved down the aisle carrying a coffin. To Aubrey's mild surprise, Steve was in front.
The minister motioned for everyone to stand and start singing….
/1 hour later/
Aubrey stepped towards the grieving group of people and extended a hand which eventually turned into a hug.
"Thank you so much for being here, Margaret would have loved to know that Howard's granddaughter was kind enough to come!" An elderly woman said. "Ah, so many adventures! Y'know back in my day-"
But before the old lady could finish what would undoubtable avey long and boring story, a few beeps came from Aubrey's phone and breaking news images flashed across the TVs throughout the room.
Smoke was coming from a large building, footage of a large explosion followed by an inside view of a blast. A reporter flashed across the screen. With images of a van and a bomb going off.
"Breaking news: A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vianna, more than 70 people have been injured, at least 12 are dead including Wakanda's King T'Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Barnes, the Winter Soldier…"
"Oh my god!" Aubrey murmured.
People were getting up from their seats, panicked chatter filled the air, Aubrey saw Steve, Sam and Peggy's niece rush out of the restaurant. She could hear someone shouting her name frantically behind her….
This chapter is kinda short but I'll be trying to post regularly so please follow!
