"Ana I need you to calm down."

My eyes are a brilliant blue and I take a deep breath and close them. When I reopen them they are brown again. Nat exhales loudly next to me and pushes me toward the mirror I'm facing.

"Stop stressing over this small party. It's literally just Avengers and SHIELD agents."

I nod and blush. I feel so stupid for letting nerves get the best of me but I had never been to a party like this. Especially not a Tony Stark party.

"I'm sorry Nat. My powers are becoming very sensitive. Every emotion and my eyes just light up."

"Well tomorrow we will take you to the training room. Just try to keep your emotions in check til then." Nat applies deep red lipstick to match her hair and then turns back to me.

"Nat you look amazing. That white dress really suits you."

"Ana. Look at yourself." I look at my own reflection. Smokey grey eyes and lipgloss, my hair is pinned up in curls to show off my exposed back. "You look beautiful but... I got you something."

Nat runs in her closet and comes back with a small gift bag. I look at her with an unamused face. She shoves the bag in my face and impatiently waits while I take it and slowly open it. Inside are long velvet gloves the same dark blue as my dress.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome." I slide the gloves on stretching them up past my elbows. "Now you don't have an excuse to dance with Steve." She winks and I blush.

"Alright. It's showtime."

*

We walk through the doors to the party area. Nat was right about it being small. Agents still in uniform were lounging around drinking and a few dancing and the guys were all at the bar sipping their drinks. Maybe 50 people. I'm not stupid though. I know the reason is for their safety. I'm a ticking bomb and it wasn't smart to actually throw a party.

"Ladies!" Sam is grinning ear to ear waving us over and causing people to look our way. Half the room starts whistling and Nat hooks her arm in mine as we continue through the room.

We make our way over to the guys at the bar. Sam and Clint are eyeing Nat like she's the last woman on earth. Tony, Thor and Bruce were giving us both looks but trying to be discreet. Steve however had his back turned to us. I can hear the low hum and then I feel the static on my body. I want to reach out to him but it's best to stay away.

"So do we clean up well or what?" Natasha says batting her eyes and smirking.

"Natasha you're beautiful as always." Clint gushes and gives her a hug. I can see her melt into him for an instant before regaining her composure and pulling away. He turns to me, "Gorgeous Ana."

"You both look great." Bruce says rubbing the back of his head shyly.

"Great? More like hot!" Sam says and hands us mixed drinks.

"Hey kid!" Tony nudges me and takes his glasses off to look at me. "Have fun tonight. I don't know what's going to happen once we start training you. So let loose and relax." His tone is soft and serious. He throws his glasses back on and he's back to his Tony Stark persona.

I small talk with Thor about his girlfriend Jane who is in Europe for work. He misses her a lot and then the subject turns to Loki his brother that started the war in New York. As much as Thor despises what his brother has done I can tell he still loves him. He leaves to talk to an agent across the room who has taken a fascination to Mjolnir, his hammer.

Bruce awkwardly stands next to me. Nat and Clint are in a heated discussion about training techniques next to us. Tony is working the room and showing off a new prototype laser. Sam and Steve are seated at the bar talking in a hushed whisper. Steve hasn't acknowledged me at all since I had arrived.

"I know how it feels." Bruce says breaking the silence between us.

"How what feels?"

"Suppressing your emotions and having everyone looking at you like you have a loaded gun to their face." We both chuckle.

"It's different. I've went my whole life with this inside me and now it's rapidly transforming me." I hold up my gloved hands. "I've touched so many people in my life and now I could accidentally kill someone." I shake my head and take in a deep breath and I hear Bruce do the same. "Does it get easier?"

Bruce looks down at the drink in his hand and takes a moment to think it over. "Yes and no. You'll learn to control it and people learn to hide their fear." He looks back to me and I can see pain in his eyes, "But the monster is always there and will never leave."

"Bruce..." I reach out to comfort him but pull back. Gloves or not I can't risk unleashing the Hulk.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Sam comes up behind me grabbing my right hand and spinning me to face him. "Ana you're supposed to be relaxing come on!" He grabs both of my hands and leads me to the dance floor. "TONY! Let's get this party started!"

From across the room I see Tony smile and push a button on his wrist. Immediately loud techno music starts playing and half the room of agents join us. Sam keeps a hold of my hands and we begin jumping and spinning around. Nat joins us in the fun and we let loose laughing and making a fool of ourselves.

After several different mixes Sam and Nat go to sit down and get another drink. I dance a little more and then decide to do the same. The music abruptly stops and so do I. Tony stands up on top of the bar and clears his throat.

"All this music is a little too modern for our senior citizen. So here's a song for you Cap." Everyone laughs as an old jazz song begins to play. The melody slow and soft.

"May I?" Steve's voice asks behind me. I turn around to see his bright eyes and dashing smile. His left hand stretched out waiting for mine. An electric buzz shoots through my body urging me to get near him.

"Of course." I take his hand and he pulls me in. A jolt of electricity shoots through my body as we touch. His right hand sits at my waist dangerously close to my exposed back and his left holding my right. I rest my other hand on his shoulder and we begin to slowly sway to the music.

"You look beautiful." Steve's eyes are bright and more blue than green tonight.

"Thank you and thank you for the journal. It's already proved useful." He smiles happily. "Are you okay though? You were at the bar for a long time." Without notice Steve spins me around and pulls me back to him.

"Just thinking about some things." He leans down close to my ear. "Sam told me about the experiment you saw. I'll look into it." He pulls away and spins me again.

"Thank you. Will you be in the training room tomorrow?"

"I'm not sure. Do you want me to be?"

"Yes. I would like a super soldier there to stop me if I... lose control."

Steve's brows pull together and his face turns serious. His arms pull me closer and our bodies feel as though they're fusing together. The hum usually in my head has disappeared and all that's there is him. "Don't fear your powers. Fear can only makes things worse."I nod. Maybe fear is the reason my power is so reactive right now.

"I'd like to spend that day together soon." It's getting easier to be near him and I'm enjoying it.

"I was hoping you would want to."

"What woman would say no to Captain America?" He laughs at me and looks around the room.

"Half the room is jealous that I'm dancing with you."

"Well of course. Again you're Captain America, everyone wants to dance with you."

"No." He shakes his head laughing. "They want to dance with you."

"Oh whatever." I laugh and look around the room. All eyes are on us. Most people giving approving looks but a few with stern looks. One pair of brown eyes catch mine though and the face is twisted in anger. I drop my arms immediately and step out of Steve's.

"Caleb." I take a step towards him but he shakes his head and storms off. "Caleb! Wait!" I look back to Steve, "I'm sorry." I run off in the direction Caleb left and through a set of doors to find him standing in a dimly lit hallway his back to me.

"How could you?" He growls.

"What are you talking about?"

"Captain America. His hands all over you."

"Caleb. I... W-We were talking and dancing... we are friends."

Caleb turns around and I can now see how angry he really is. His eyes are bloodshot and filled with tears and his hands shaking in rage. I knew he liked me but to get this jealous over a dance is crazy.

"I should have taken you away when I had the chance. I thought I had more time." He begins pacing back and forth looking down at the floor.

"Time for what?"

"HYDRA was looking for you for years and four months ago they found you. SHEILD decided to keep a closer eye on you. I begged for that position. Kidnapping you was going to really going to change my life."

"Kidnapping... Caleb what are you talking about?"

He ignores me and continues, "I was stupid though. I took one look at you and couldn't hurt you. I was stupid. I began making plans to runaway with you. From HYDRA... from SHIELD. I wasn't going to let anyone experiment on you or harm you. I just wanted you."

"Then Fury started getting suspicious and decided to change plans and recruit you." Caleb laughs and I can see that he has calmed down. "HYDRA was angry. They almost terminated me."

"HYDRA?" My pulse was beginning to race as my mind was putting together what he's saying.

"Yes! I'm a double agent. I infiltrated SHIELD. I was hired to kidnap you." He steps to the large hallway windows overlooking the bustling city below. He seems to have calmed down despite spilling out his dirty secrets.

My heart is beating faster than humanly possible and tears begin filling my eyes. "Traitor." I whisper angrily.

"Oh no my dear Morana. You are the traitor." I furrow my brows in confusion. "Tell me. Do you remember your father's death?"

"H-he died from cancer when I was five. What does he have to do with us?"

"Do you remember his death?" Caleb looks at me. His face is cold and angry.

"No."

"You killed him."

"No!" He's wrong. He has to be.

"You disintegrated him."

"You're lying!"

"Fury knows. Your mother knows. Everyone does." Anger replaces my fear. I know my eyes have changed by the blue hue lighting up the hallway. Caleb looks at me smiling. "No one is your friend Morana. They are scared of you. They have a cell waiting for you downstairs with the twins."

I step forward as the anger rises and I feel a tingling sensation at my fingertips. I look down and my hands are engulfed in blue flames. I'm not scared though. I feel relaxed and calm now. I look back to Caleb and he's grinning happily.

"You have a suppression collar too. Once they find out how dangerous you are they will strap the collar around your pretty neck and lock you away."

"No they won't." I take another step forward and feel the flames rise up my arms.

"No they won't if you come with me. Let me take you to HYDRA. Let us show you how to use your powers."

"I'm not going anywhere." I take a few more steps forward. We are an arms distance away. Caleb doesn't seem bothered that my whole body is enveloped in the blue flames.

"Fine. Stay here but you'll see that I'm right about everything." He smirks. "Wait until you find out about the thing they are creating to destroy you."

"Go back to the party and tell them who you really are." I can't let him get away but I don't want to kill him.

"No. I'm not going anywhere Morana."

"Stop calling me that."

"No." Calebs smiles and pulls out a baton, clicking a button and it buzzes with electricity. "I don't want to fight you but... Hail Hydra." He raises the baton over his head and I wince as I wait for it to come down on me but it doesn't.

Caleb is dangling in the air helplessly, a blue film covering his body. His eyes are wide but his body can't move. I'm doing this. I'm controlling my powers and subduing a bad guy.

"You... are... h-h-" Caleb tries to finish speaking but he can't. I watch in horror as his body fades to nothing. My blue light dims and I sink to my knees.

What had I done? I thought I was controlling my powers but they were controlling me. Death number four. Ben... Caleb. I begin to sob overwhelmed by all that's happened.

"Ana?" Steve. His voice is soft and timid. I turn my head to see him and Natasha.

"I-I killed him." I try to stand up but my legs give out and I let myself fall. I'm so very tired. I close my eyes as I come into contact with the hard floor. I hear Steve run toward me and feel him lightly touch my hair. I try to open my eyes but I can't so I let myself drift off into the darkness.
