Part 6 - My Chipmunk Valentine
It was another sunny morning in Los Angeles, but this day had a more romantic feeling in the air. It was the fourteenth of February, better known as Saint Valentine's Day. This was a holiday where people spent time with their sweethearts and celebrated their relationship. For people like David Seville, the holiday was only a yearly reminder that they lacked such companionship. Even so, this year was special in the fact that all three of his sons managed to land dates. He wouldn't let them know it, but he could tell the Chipmunks had been going through many emotions for the past few days. Dating was a scary thing, and Dave wanted to make sure his kids were emotionally prepared.
The man walked over to their room and was about to knock, but the door opened up by itself. Smoke began to seep out into the hallway as Dave began to hear 90s pop music.
"What in the world?..." he looked onward confusingly. Suddenly, a bright light beamed out of the boys' room as three silhouettes stepped out wearing the most swagicious clothing. Simon had dressed in a dapper white suit with a blue bow-tie. Alvin had poofed up his hair, wore his cap sideways, a white leather jacket/pants, a red collar-shirt, and a loose black tie. Lastly, Theodore wore a white collar shirt with white pants and green suspenders. The boys then began to dance to the music. Dave just watched in absolute confusion.
(Alvin) I may run and hide
When you're screamin' my name, alright
(Simon) But let me tell you now
There are prices to fame, alright
(Theodore) All of our time spent
in flashes of light, ee i eee i ee ight
The Chipmunks then slid down the stair railing while Dave simply followed along, completely baffled.
(The Chipmunks) All you people can't you see, can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
The Chipmunks moved on into the living room. For some unexplained reason, all the lights in the house turned off and were replaced with disco lights and laser beams (maybe it was Simon's doing). Even with Dave being their only non-consenting audience, the Chipmunks continued to perform.
(Simon) Looking at the crowd
And I see your body sway, c'mon
Alvin then walked directed in front of Dave.
(Alvin) Wishin' I could thank you
in a different way, c'mon
Alvin wiggled his eyebrows at Dave as he said that last verse. The Man was visibly disgusted.
(Theodore) Cause all of your time spent
keeps us alive, eee i eee i eee iii
(The Chipmunks) All you people can't you see, can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
The boys moved on into the kitchen as they began to dance, directly on the dining table.
(The Chipmunks) All you people can't you see, can't you see
How your love's affecting our reality
Every time we're down
You can make it right
And that makes you larger than life
The Chipmunks concluded the performance by jumping off the table and pointing at Dave. "What the hell was that all about?" he demanded to know.
"Excuse us, Dave," Simon stepped forward, "We were just in a song number mood."
"And we absolutely slayed it," Alvin added, "Eat your hearts out, Backstreet Boys."
Dave wasn't sure what he was expecting from today, but it certainly wasn't this. "I guess you boys are excited for your dates, huh?" he stated.
"I sure am!" Theodore exclaimed, "Ellie and I are going to see the long-awaited sequel to The Talking Teddy Movie."
"I'm going to treat Britt to a visit to Majestic Movie Studios," Alvin added, "Oh, and Simon is taking Jeanette to some boring lecture."
"It's a lecture on how people of the past interpreted the night sky," Simon grumbled, "In fact, it's going to be hosted by the top astronomer in the country."
"Yeah, yeah, very interesting," Alvin dismissed his scientific brother.
"Wait a minute. I thought all of you were going to have a triple date?" Dave questioned, "Miss Miller told me so."
"Well… there was a change of plans," Alvin hid the truth from his father.
"Yeah, which we had nothing to do with," Theodore nervously added. His brother's face palmed in response.
"Okay?" Dave shrugged off, "I have to say, you fellas look great. In fact, the Chipettes might need to fight off other girls from snatching you."
"Ew, don't be cringy, Dave," Alvin shuddered.
"I can be as 'cringy' as much I want," their father chuckled as he knelt down to hug them, "My boys are growing up. It still feels like only yesterday you boys would run around causing trouble, and… well, I guess not much has changed." Dave continued to hold the boys for a little too long.
"Not to be rude, Dave, but we have dates to get to," Theodore spoke up.
"Oh, sorry," Dave chuckled as he let go of his grip, "Listen, you boys better be home by 8."
"8? Come on, I thought we are all grown up now," Alvin complained.
"Not grown-up enough to be fooling around with girls late at night," Dave lectured, "Now, don't forget to have fun!"
"Okay!" The Chipmunks cried enthusiastically. They then rushed out the door. Dave was left feeling quite impressed. He expected the boys to be nervous wrecks, not fearless casanovas. Still, Dave wanted to be absolutely sure that his sons were ready. He went over to the window and observed them from afar.
Alvin, Simon, and Theodore strutted up to Miss Miller's house and rang the doorbell. Miss Miller then opened the door with a sad look on her face, "Hello, boys. It's nice to see you."
"Morning, Miss Miller," Simon greeted. "Are the girls ready?"
"About the girls…" Miss Miller twiddled her thumbs, "I'm not sure if they should…"
Before the old woman could finish, scampering footsteps could be heard from inside the house. At that moment, the Chipettes popped out. Jeanette wore a chest-high purple dress and long white gloves. Brittany wore a big pink bow, white tank top, and blue jeans. Lastly, Eleanor wore green overalls, a white shirt, and green bows in her pigtails. All three Chipettes also made an effort to apply lots of makeup (though Jeanette and Eleanor didn't go overboard). The Chipmunks were completely awestruck over their dates.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" The boys sang in unison. However, instead of excitement, the three sisters glared at each other and silently went over to their dates.
"Hey, Britt. Is everything good?" Alvin asked. Out of nowhere, Brittany latched onto his arm.
"Now it is," Brittany purred. She then growled at her sisters, "Come on, Alvin. The sooner we leave, the better."
"Have fun on that death trap," Jeanette crossed her arms, "Meanwhile, Simon and I will be enlightened by the beauty of our universe."
"Yeah, going to boring lectures makes you so much better than us," Eleanor scoffed. She then nuzzled Theodore, "I guess we'll be the only ones having fun."
"Or… we all will enjoy our date separately," Theodore nervously cut in. The Chipmunks had never seen the girls act like this before, and it was rather unnerving.
"I don't see how you could find enjoyment out of such dumb baby trash, but to each their own," Brittany rudely remarked.
"Hey, you take that back!" Eleanor cried as she got into Brittany's face.
"Dumb. Baby. Trash," Brittany spat.
Eleanor seemed like she was about to explode, but suddenly she gave her pink sister an evil grin. "At least, I'm still don't wet my bed."
Everyone gasped as Brittany stood there in complete horror. "Uh, what did she say?" Alvin froze.
"Oh no," Jeanette gulped, knowing things weren't going to end well. Suddenly, Brittany went from a statue to a wild beast in a matter of seconds. She grabbed her blonde sister aggressively.
"You promised to keep that secret, you brat!" the redhead roared.
Despite Brittany shaking her violently, Eleanor laughed up a storm. "Who's the baby, now?" she teased.
"I stopped doing that two years ago!" Brittany spat.
"Only two years ago?" Alvin questioned. Brittany then gave her date a look that was a mix between embarrassment and murder. Alvin immediately shut himself up.
"Sometimes I question if I really am the youngest," Eleanor continued.
Brittany then threw her little sister to the ground. "I trusted you to never tell a soul, and now you've said it in front of Alvin," Brittany shivered, "I hate you, Eleanor."
Eleanor turned completely white when she heard her sister. The others were in complete shock. Jeanette especially was rather shaken. "Brittany, how could you…" the tall chipette began to say.
"You're always taking her side!" Brittany snapped at her other sister, "I know how you two feel about me. Well, the feeling's neutral. Come on, Alvin. Let's lose these losers!" The pink teen then grabbed her date's arm and dragged him away. All Alvin could do was give the others a regretful look.
Eleanor ran forward. "Guess what?! I hate you, too!" she screamed.
"Eleanor!" Jeanette gasped in disgust. The blonde gritted her teeth before shoving her tallest sister and running off in the other direction.
"Eleanor, wait!" Theodore ran after.
Jeanette hung her head and turned to Simon. "Can we get out of here, please?" she requested painfully. Simon simply nodded as he wrapped an arm around his date and walked off.
Dave didn't hear everything from his window, but he could tell something was terribly wrong. He slowly walked outside, trying to process what just happened. All of a sudden, he heard Miss Miller sobbing on her porch.
The man ran over to his neighbor. "Miss Miller, what in the world is going on?" he worriedly asked.
Miss Miller wiped her tears before looking up at Dave. "I don't know, David," she wept, "I just don't know. The girls never acted like this before, and I don't know what to do." Miss Miller began to cry again, and Dave pulled her into a hug.
It was lively as ever at Majestic Movie Studios, the only theme park to rival a certain magical kingdom. The place got especially packed during holidays, so the theme park was in full swing. Unsurprisingly, the line leading into the park was miles long, and at the very end of the line came Brittany. She still was dragging Alvin by the arm when they arrived.
"Hey, Brittany. You can let go of me now," Alvin pointed out sarcastically. The pink chipette finally loosened her grip, and the boy fixed his sleeve before facing her. "Well, here we are," Alvin tried to hold in his excitement, "Just beyond that gate is the funnest place on Earth. Am I the greatest Valentine or what?"
The red-capped teen fully expected his auburn-headed companion to reply with a snarky comment to break his ego, but all the girl did was stare off into space. "Talking about Earth, that's where your head should be at," Alvin quipped, "Hello?" He then snapped his fingers right up to her face.
"Huh, what?" Brittany returned to reality, "Oh yeah, you sure are…" She then returned to her own thoughts.
"Brittany Miller saying I'm the greatest at something?" Alvin pondered to himself, "Something ain't right here."
On the other side of the city, Theodore was still chasing after Eleanor through the streets. It was a huge feat for the boy since Eleanor was a thousand times more fit than him. "Ellie… slow… down!" Theodore yelled breathlessly. Unfortunately, Eleanor had enough energy to run another fifty blocks while Theodore lost his at the third.
Unable to muster any longer, the chubby chipmunk fell to the ground. Eleanor stopped in her tracks once she heard the loud thud he made. She turned around and gasped when she saw her best friend had face planted into the ground.
"Teddy!" Eleanor cried. She then ran over to him, "Are you alright?"
"I'm… okay," Theodore grunted as he lifted himself. Eleanor helped the green teen back onto his feet. She looked at him with an apologetic expression. "The better question is… Are you okay?" Theodore asked worriedly.
"Yeah, I am…" Eleanor trailed off, not sounding completely sincere. She looked away sadly, making Theodore feel more uneasy.
"Are you sure? What even happened back there?" the short chipmunk continued to ask.
"I don't want to talk about it, Theodore," Eleanor shook her head. They both stood there in silence for a moment.
"Okay…" Theodore poked his fingers together, "Well, I know what will cheer you up. A whole hour and a half with Talking Teddy! Now, let's go. The movie starts in less than an hour."
Eleanor still didn't say anything back. Theodore frowned but didn't know what more he could do, so he grabbed his crush's hand, and they walked towards the cinemas.
Meanwhile, Simon and Jeanette were taking the bus to Lake Hollywood Park. The tall chipmunk was shaking in his nice white suit. He had never been on a date before and worried he was going to ruin it. It didn't help that his date was already in a bad mood, thanks to moments before.
He turned his head to the chipette right next to him, who was watching her feet swing to the motion of the bus. She didn't look any better than she did when they left their homes. Simon was intelligent in many subjects, but emotional intelligence was where he lacked. In contrast, Jeanette always knew the right thing to say, one of the many reasons he admired the brunette. The best thing Simon could think of to cheer her up was to take her mind off things.
"So, Jeanette. Are you excited about going to the Griffith Observatory?" Simon began to say, "I don't think we've been there since our field trip in the sixth grade."
Jeanette didn't respond in the slightest. Simon bit his lip, wishing he was better at comforting people.
"Let's just hope she feels better once we're actually in the observatory," Simon said to himself.
After an hour passed, Alvin and Brittany managed to get inside Majestic Movie Studios. The red chipmunk looked around in awe, seeing all the awesome movie-themed rides. The park even had hearts and flowers set up everywhere for the holiday. Alvin's eyes then landed on Brittany, who still showed little emotion.
Alvin frowned, hating that the chipette was somehow still upset. "Hey, chin up, Britt," he said casually, "Remember how I said I know a guy who works here? I can get us on any ride in no time flat. Why don't we head straight to the blockbuster? It's the whole reason why we're here in the first place!"
The red chipmunk then grabbed his date's hand and walked over to the map. "The blockbuster is only a little way towards the west. Come on!" Alvin then led Brittany by the hand as they headed to the ride. It was strange to hear the pink teen all mute. She was by far the most talkative out of the Chipettes. To think Alvin went through all the effort into having alone time with Brittany, just for her to be still upset in the end. He expected her to be pretty upset with Theodore, but he had no idea what happened with her sisters.
Speaking of his little brother, Alvin's phone began to ring, and he took it out to see Theodore was calling him. "Excuse me, my little brother is calling me," he told Brittany, who wasn't paying attention at all. Alvin let out a sigh before picking up, "Hey, Theo. I thought you were going to the movies."
"I am," Theodore answered, "but there's something wrong with Ellie. She hasn't said a word since we got here."
"Just like Brittany," Alvin thought to himself, "Where is she, right now?"
"Ellie is currently in the theater grabbing our seats. I'm outside getting snacks."
"Here's your extra-large bucket of popcorn, sir," Alvin heard a voice say from Theodore's end.
"Actually, can I have a little bit more popcorn, please," Theodore requested, "Anyways, this date is turning into a real disaster."
"Tell me about it," Alvin replied, "Brittany is as emotional as a rock right now, which is saying a lot since this is Brittany we're talking about."
"Oh no, I wonder how Simon is handling Jeanette," Theodore whimpered, "Uh, can you add a little more butter."
"Sir, if I add any more, the bucket will start leaking," the theater employee stated.
"Fine, but only because these pants are new," Theodore begrudgingly accepted.
"Wait, Theodore. I'm getting a call from Simon. I'll add him in," Alvin stated as he did a couple of screen taps, "Hey, Simon. How's your date with Jeanette?"
"It's a complete catastrophe!" Alvin heard his other brother exclaim, "Here we are in the most intellectually stimulating building on this side of the United States, and Jeanette doesn't have anything to say. She's as quiet as the depth of space."
"Same thing with Ellie and Brittany," Theodore interjected.
"Theodore?" Simon gasped, "You're calling Alvin, too?"
"All three of them are complete zombies!" Alvin proclaimed, "For the love of God, I've been talking directly in front of Brittany's face this whole time, and she hasn't heard a single word." Alvin looked over to the pink teen, who was still staring off into nothing.
"What are we supposed to do, guys?" Theodore wept.
"I don't know!" Alvin yelled, feeling like everything was falling into ashes, "Look, I gotta go. Brittany and I are about to go on the blockbuster."
"Me, too. The lecture is starting in five minutes," Simon sighed.
"And so it is the movie," Theodore added.
Alvin then exhaled loudly, "Good luck, fellas." He hung up his phone.
He looked back up and saw the Blockbuster was right in front of him. The rollercoaster was bigger and louder than he could ever imagine. He saw the next carts begin to ascend the tracks. The moment they reached the drop, they flashed down in blinding speed. Alvin could hear the joyful screams, but his eyes were unable to keep up with the speeding carts. It was comparable to lightning appearing before thunder. This ride definitely had the longest line out of the whole park; the park even had to close a gift shop to make more room for it.
For a moment, Alvin had completely forgotten his troubles as all he could think of was riding the blockbuster. "Ho ho ho, look at that monster of a ride," Alvin chuckled to Brittany, "Come on, don't tell me you're not excited to ride it."
"Huh?" Brittany returned to reality again, "Oh, yeah. I can't wait…" The chipette couldn't even muster a smile.
"Brittany, you're oozing with sincerity," Alvin said ironically, "If you worried about the line, don't be. I've already got it settled. You'll see what I mean in a minute." He then checked the time on his phone as he was expecting a meeting.
"Sorry for the wait, Mr. Seville," greeted a skinny man with a bowl cut. He wore a suit and a pair of rose-tinted glasses.
"Good to see ya, Ted," Alvin smiled as he shook the man's hand, "This is Ted Yesman, the president of the park. Do you remember when I and my brother's got to perform here every day during that summer years ago? Well, it was all thanks to this guy."
"Oh, the pleasure was mine," Ted said politely before saying under his breath, "... Though you boys sure caused a lot of trouble."
"Excuse me?" Alvin had a hard time hearing that last part.
"Oh, it was nothing," Ted laughed off, "Anyway, I'm so happy you and Brittany Miller agreed to promote our hottest attraction. We'll give you direct access on the promise that big stars such as yourselves will give raving reviews."
"Pretty much, they're letting us skip the line, and all we have to do is tell everyone it's great," Alvin explained the situation in a nutshell.
"We also ask if you and Mr. Seville will take plenty of publicity photos of you with the Blockbuster," Ted added.
"Don't worry, Ted. We never pass up an opportunity for publicity. Am I right, Britt?" Alvin gave his date a playful nudge.
"Yeah, I guess it's alright…" Brittany answered uncomfortably. Alvin curled in his lips, saddened that the chipette was still under the weather.
"Alvin…" Ted whispered into the boy's ear, "Not to be a bother, but it would be preferable that Ms. Miller at least smiles in the pictures."
"Yeah yeah, I know," Alvin shooed the man away, "How about you give us a minute?"
"Very well, Mr. Seville. We'll have the ride ready for you in a jiffy!" Ted forcefully sang before running off.
Alvin then turned to Brittany, "You were absolutely hyped to get on this ride yesterday, don't tell me you don't want to go on."
"I do, Alvin, I do," Brittany was quick to assure, "It's just…"
"It's just what?" the red chipmunk asked desperately, "For god's sake, Britt, you haven't acted like yourself all day."
At the same time, Simon and Jeanette had entered the planetarium inside the observatory. The zodiac lecture was going to be held here. The audience was made up of fellow scientists like Simon and astrologers like Jeanette. The purple chipette still hadn't said a word after the phone call, and it drew Simon crazy. It seemed that all of Simon's fears about the date were coming true. However, once the two teens took their seats, Simon remembered Jeanette was more upset right now, not him.
So, the blue chipmunk mustered the courage to do something he's always scared to do: being emotionally vulnerable. "Jeanette!" Simon exclaimed as he grabbed his crush's hands, "I can't sit here seeing you upset anymore. If you want to leave, we will."
"Oh, please don't, Simon," Jeanette shook her head, "You've been planning this all week. I can't make you leave."
"But you matter more!" Simon confessed, even making himself blush a little, "Jeanette, please… tell me what's wrong."
Lastly, Theodore and Eleanor were both seated in the movie theater as the trailers began to play. At the moment, they were playing a trailer for Penguin President. However, the blonde chipette wasn't even watching the silver screen. Instead, she stared at her seat's cup holder. Theodore was unable to pay attention as well, setting his mind on the girl next to him.
"Ellie…" the green chipmunk shifted in his seat, "Remember Talking Teddy said the only way to cure sadness is by talking about it. I would really like it if you told me why you're feeling sad."
"Do I have to," Eleanor sighed deeply.
"No… but whatever it is that's bothering you, I'll help to fix it," Theodore boldly claimed.
With that, Eleanor finally sat up and turned to her best friend. "It's about my sisters," she finally confessed, "something happened last night."
"You're going to have to be more descriptive than that," Alvin told Brittany as she began to reveal her feelings as well.
The pink chipette tensed up, "I don't know how to tell you, Alvin, but they said rather nasty things about you."
"They said you were overly nitpicky," Jeanette explained to Simon.
"That's it? Trust me, I've heard worse," Simon laughed off.
"But, it was just that, Simon," Jeanette was quick to add.
"My sisters also said really mean things to me," Eleanor continued, "Really really mean."
"Um… like what?" Theodore gulped.
"Like saying my friends were dumb and that I didn't care about anyone but myself," Brittany whimpered, "You know that isn't true, Alvin."
"Of course, I do," Alvin frowned, "But how did any of this come about?"
"Well, pretty much I realized that Theodore would be too scared to go on the Blockbuster," Brittany explained.
"I concluded that bringing Alvin to the lecture might cause complications," Jeanette enlightened Simon.
"I was scared that Simon would ruin the movie by overanalyzing it," Eleanor revealed.
"It's not like I hate Theodore, but I didn't want him ruining anything," Brittany continued, "Then it somehow slowly devolved into a yelling fest, and now I'm not sure if I can ever face my sisters again…" All three of the girls shut their eyes while trying to hold in the pain. The boys could only sit there feeling helpless.
"Family fights all the time," Simon tried to reason with Jeanette, "My brothers and I get mad at each other a lot, but we still love each other in the end."
"It's not that simple, Simon," Jeanette teared up, "I can't forgive them for what they said about you.
If they can't like you for who you are, then how can they like me," all three Chipettes cried. It was after that sentence that the boys began to realize what they have done.
"At least you like me for who I am," Eleanor told Theodore, wearing a weak smile.
"And I know you will always be there for me," Jeanette said to Simon.
"Too bad my family isn't the same," Brittany sighed. The Chipmunks were immediately filled with guilt.
"That's not true, Brittany!" Alvin thought.
"It was our fault they were mad at us," Simon cried in his head.
"Of course, your sisters love you," Theodore wanted to say.
"Nevermind, all of that," Eleanor finished, "Let's just watch the movie."
The Chipettes went back to being quiet, trying to put their full attention to their dates. Although, the boys couldn't stop thinking about what happened. They knew the Chipettes were very close. They always had each other's back, even before they met Miss Miller. No matter what they did or where they went, the girls made sure to always stick together. That's why they wanted to go on a triple date in the first place. Now they can't even talk to each other thanks to the boys.
"What have I done?..." Alvin, Simon, and Theodore whispered to themselves.
Before Alvin could say anymore, Ted called out to him and Brittany from the ride entrance. "Mr. Seville, Ms. Miller! The ride is ready to go!" he yelled over to them, "Let's get this show rolling!" The two teens then begrudgingly walked over.
"The lecture will begin in one minute," a presenter announced, "Please remain in your seats until after it starts."
"Now for our feature presentation," the movie screen informed. Simon, Theodore, and their dates waited for their show to begin while Alvin and Brittany made their way to the ride carts.
The two medium chipmunks could see reporters and cameras were waiting for them next to the ride. "Here are our big stars now!" Ted Yesman proclaimed to everyone. Cameras started flashing as Alvin and Brittany were bombarded with reporters.
"Are you two on a date?" one reporter asked.
"Alvin, what is your opinion about Majestic Movies Studio destroying nearby forests to expand the park?" another reporter questioned.
"We don't need to get into that," Ted tried to deflect.
"Are you and Brittany a couple?" one more reporter cut in, "What does this mean for the future of the Chipmunks and the Chipettes?"
Ted tried to push the two of them along as they sat down in front seats of the roller coaster. Alvin was feeling a lot of emotions as the pressure kept building.
"You two have fun," Ted smiled, "My job depends on it."
Right before the ride operator was about to press the start button, Alvin shot right up. "Wait!" he cried. Everyone then froze, surprised at the rock star's sudden outburst.
Brittany, we need to find your sisters right now," he told the chipette. And before anyone could say another word, he grabbed the girl's arm and pulled her out of the ride.
"But, Alvin. The Blockbuster!" Brittany cried.
"Yeah, where are you going?!" Ted screeched.
"Sorry, Ted, but I have a family to save," Alvin told the president before he and Brittany disappeared.
"Oh, why do I keep working with this kid?" Ted whined.
At the same time, Simon stood up just when the lecture was about to start. "That's it, Jeanette. You're going to talk to your sisters," he proclaimed.
"Simon, wait a minute…" Jeanette tried to protest before the boy grabbed her by the arm and led her out of the observatory.
And right before the movie began, Theodore got up as well. "I'm sorry, Ellie, but I can't sit here and watch you be sad. You and your sisters need to talk now," the green chipmunk announced as he grabbed Eleanor and left the theater.
Alvin and Brittany ran out into the park streets. "Alvin, hold on," Brittany exclaimed.
Suddenly, the red chipmunk felt his phone buzzing, so he picked it up.
"Alvin, it's me, Simon," he heard his bespectacled brother's voice, "The girls are upset because they fought. I'm taking Jeanette over to meet you."
"No need, Simon," Alvin interrupted, "I'm bringing Brittany along as well. We need to get in touch with Theodore."
"Wait, Theodore just texted me saying he's bringing Eleanor," Simon interjected.
"Excellent, let's pick a place to meet up," Alvin suggested, "Wait, I got an idea. Meet me in the forest ASAP."
"Um, okay," Simon obliged, "See you there."
"Alvin, where are you taking me?" Brittany said, all annoyed.
"You'll see, but we need to get there fast," Alvin claimed as they ran out of the park.
It took a long time for all the teens to reach the forest, even by running. It took so long that most of the day had already passed.
"Alvin, tell me where we are going this instant!" Brittany demanded.
"We're almost there, Brittany. It's just around the corner," Alvin explained. When they made a left turn on the final tree, Brittany let out a gasp. Alvin had taken her to her old treehouse, where she and her sisters lived before meeting Miss Miller. Since then, the girls haven't visited the treehouse in years. Either way, it was still standing, even if it was all dusty and full of cracks.
"W-what are we doing here?" The pink chipette stared awestruck.
"I just thought you needed some… self-reflection," Alvin waved his arm, "I've certainly given you a surprise, haven't I?"
Suddenly, they heard yelling from a distance. "Simon, slow down!" a voice that sounded like Jeanette cried. Soon enough, Simon and Jeanette appeared from the thick of the forest.
"Oh good, you're here," Simon smiled.
"Guys, hold up!" they heard a new voice yell. Right on cue, Theodore showed up with Eleanor. The green chipmunk fell to his knees from running whole miles. "That's it, Theodore Jameson Seville is going on a diet," he proclaimed. He then reached into his pocket and scuffed down some leftover popcorn.
It took a moment before the Chipettes caught each other's eyes. "What is she doing here?!" they all snapped.
"Yeah, Alvin. What are we doing here?" Simon asked his red-capped brother. Alvin then whispered his plan to Simon and Theodore, who both seemed to agree.
"Ladies, why don't we take a step inside?" Alvin gestured to the door. The girls gave the boys strange looks before they were again taken by the hand into the treehouse.
Simon opened up the door, and dust seeped out. "Jeez, this place did not hold up well," he then flipped the switch, which miraculously turned the lights on, "At least the electricity still works."
The six chipmunks made their way upstairs into the main part of the house. "What are you boys planning?" Eleanor asked suspiciously.
"Sorry, Ellie," Theodore responded, "For once, I'm going to keep my mouth shut."
Once they reached the tarp-ridden living room, Alvin pointed his brothers towards a particular door: the Chipettes' old bedroom.
"Alvin, if you don't tell me what's going on, then the date is off!" Brittany screamed.
"Relax, Britt. You, Jeanette, and Eleanor are just going to have a little chat," Alvin stated as he shoved the girls into the room. Before they even had a second to react, the boys shut the door and locked them inside.
Brittany tried to open the door, but it was shut tight. "Alvin, Simon, Theodore, let us out right now!" she yelled as she banged the door.
"Not until you girls talk to each other," Alvin denied.
"Is that what this is about?" Jeanette stepped forward, "You all couldn't have waited until after our dates?"
"I'm sorry, Jeanette, but the conflict between you and your sisters needs to be reconciled immediately," Simon explained.
"Now, please talk. We promise to let you out soon," Theodore begged. The Chipettes each let out a collected groan before retreating.
"This is dumb," Eleanor spat as she kicked an old footstool, "I don't want to see your stupid faces right now."
"Me neither, but the boys suddenly think they're Carl Rogers," Jeanette murmured.
"Just so you two know, I'm still mad about last night," Brittany said as she sat down on her old armchair. Unfortunately, the legs caved in, and Brittany thumped onto the ground.
"Yeah, no, duh," Eleanor scoffed. She then jumped right onto her old beanbag. A puff of dust formed around the blonde, and she began to cough a storm.
Jeanette rolled her eyes, "You two need to be more careful. This whole place is a safety hazard." She then leaned back onto the wall.
"Whatever, little miss smartypants. I'm ignoring you, now," Brittany stuck up her nose. And so the girls all sat around in silence.
Meanwhile, the boys were trying to listen in from the door. "They're not saying anything," Theodore whispered.
"I thought if we locked them in their old room, they would want to get out as soon as possible," Alvin grumbled, "They must be furious at each other if they aren't willing to talk."
"Give them time. The girls can't stay in there forever," Simon assured.
Yet, the girls continued to stay silent for another hour. By that point, Brittany had used up all of her battery on her phone, so she had to find something to preoccupy herself. Suddenly, her eyes fell onto a discarded album.
Having nothing better to do, she went over and picked it up. Inside were forgotten photos of the Chipettes from the orphanage in Australia, all the way up to their around-the-world race. Brittany smiled a little but soon caught herself. However, her tune changed when she turned to an unusual page in the album.
It did not hold any photos, instead of in the plastic sleeve was a compressed red rose. Brittany was so shocked that she dropped the book to the ground. The sudden thud caught the attention of her sisters.
"What is it, Brittany? Found an old picture of yourself with a hair out of place?" Jeanette remarked.
"No, Jeanette. Look." Brittany pointed.
The purple chipette looked down at the album and spotted the rose. "I don't remember a rose being there," she raised an eyebrow.
"Don't you recognize it? It's one of the roses you gave me right after I was rejected from the Sisters club," Brittany explained, "I remembered I wanted to get into that club so bad that I pretended you weren't my sister. Yet, you were still there to comfort me in the end, even when you had every right not to care."
"Well, I knew all you wanted was to make friends at school, so I didn't mind," Jeanette confessed, "Plus, you made it up to me in the end by saying I was the best sister; in the world… I guess you don't think that anymore."
The two of them tensed up as they looked away from each other.
"Hey, look," Eleanor pointed, "There's a picture of the baby penguin we met in Egypt. He's just as cute as I remembered." Next to the photo of the penguin was a picture of them returning the penguin to his mother. "We cost ourselves the whole race just to help the little guy back to Antarctica," she sighed, "I still can't believe you let us do that, Brittany. You were so determined to beat Alvin."
"It's not like it mattered in the end anyway. The whole race turned out to be a ruse to get us to smuggle diamonds," Brittany brushed off, "Plus, winning the race wasn't as important as helping a baby get back home."
"You know, Brittany. Sometimes you can be really compassionate," Eleanor complimented.
"Told ya I'm considerate," Brittany smiled. She noticed another photo, "Hey, I don't remember this one." It was a picture of 8-year-old Jeanette and Eleanor sitting at an ice cream parlor with a giant sundae in between them.
"Oh, that was the first Valentine's Eleanor and I shared," Jeanette answered, "I was jealous that you and Eleanor had dates, and I didn't."
"But then I surprised you when I returned early from mine and treated you to some ice cream," Eleanor jumped in, "And, boy, was it delicious."
"You made sure to spend Valentine's with me after that," Jeanette smiled, "And I hold all of those days close to my heart."
"Oh, Jeanette," Eleanor smiled back. It seemed the tension between them had finally died down. However, Brittany still had one last thing to get off her chest.
"Why didn't either of you invite me to join you," Brittany shook, "You could've at least told me about your hangouts…"
"We're sorry, Brittany," Jeanette responded, "You just always seemed to be focused on getting a date that we assumed you wouldn't care to join."
"Well, to be honest, I wish I was there with you two instead of with some random boy all those times," the pink chipette proclaimed, "I was really looking forward to spending Valentine's with you guys finally, but then we were had that dumb argument."
"I can't believe we let one argument get in between us," Eleanor admitted, "I said such horrible things to you two."
"Neither of us is anymore innocent, either," Jeanette assured before turning to her other sister, "Brittany, I'm sorry for everything I said. Do you still think I'm the best sister in the world?"
Brittany then shed some tears, "Of course, Jeanette. I'll never stop believing that. I'm sorry for being the worst sister in the world."
Eleanor was quick to hug the weeping chipette, "You're not the worst sister in the world! You're an amazing sister, and I'm sorry I ever said otherwise. I wouldn't have anyone else but you."
"I love you girls," Brittany could no longer stop herself sobbing, "I love you more than anything." The Chipettes then embraced each other into one loving hug.
Meanwhile, the Chipmunks had heard everything from behind the door, and they couldn't help but begin to cry as well.
"Simon, Theodore, what happened to us?" Alvin wept, "You know I would be nothing without you."
"I take back all those times I said you two were immature. I was the one acting like a child," Simon cried.
"Why did we ever want to be apart? I want us to be together forever," Theodore sobbed. Each pair of triplets held each other for a good while until the Chipettes began to realize the boys were crying as well.
"Hey, what are you guys crying for?" Eleanor questioned. At that moment, the boys unlocked the door and entered the room.
"It's just you girls making up made us forgive each other as well," Theodore explained.
"Wait, when did you guys fight?" Jeanette interrogated. The Chipmunks gulped, realizing that they could no longer hide the truth.
"Well, the same day we all asked you out, Dave had to drag us to the recording studio," Simon began, "And let's say things got pretty heated."
"We decided we needed time apart, so we thought today would be the perfect day," Theodore continued, "But then you girls told us you wanted to go on a triple date."
"Wait, you boys never wanted to go on a triple date in the first place?" Brittany gasped.
"Correctamundo," Alvin answered, "Since there was still tension between us, we were scared that our constant arguing would ruin the date. So we desperately tried to find ways to split you guys up."
"We weren't trying to get you to start hating each other though," Theodore exclaimed, "We just thought if we annoyed you enough, you would call the whole thing off."
"So, you guys were bothering us on purpose," Eleanor suggested.
"Yes, but as soon as we realized what happened, we made sure to fix our mistake immediately," Simon concluded, "We're sorry for all the trouble we caused."
"All we wanted was to make you girls happy," Alvin added, "We shouldn't have come in between your sisterhood."
"We understand if you don't want to date us anymore," Theodore sighed. Then all three of the boys turned around in shame and began to leave. The boys expected the girls to say nothing as they left.
Instead, the Chipettes ran over to the Chipmunks and spun them around. Then each chipette planted a kiss on their chipmunk's cheek.
"Huh?!" The boys were absolutely flabbergasted.
The girls began to giggle at their reaction. "You guys ruined your dates so we could get back together," Brittany smiled.
"Pretty much, yeah," Alvin scratched the back of his head.
"You went out of your way to make us feel better," Jeanette added soothingly, "Putting our needs before yours."
"I guess we did," Simon blushed.
"You even risked the chance of us staying friends so we could make up," Eleanor grinned.
"W-well, it w-was our fault," Theodore stuttered.
"That doesn't matter. What does is that you showed how much you cared," Brittany remarked, "You guys are the sweetest."
"They sure are," Jeanette cooed. The Chipettes then snuggled against their respective Chipmunks, making them blush like mad.
After that whole emotional exchange, the six chipmunks decided to head home, unsure what else to do. Even on the walk back, each couple held hands the whole way. By the time they arrived at their front yard, the sun had already begun to set. Thanks to all the running, their outfits were completely wrinkled. Their feet weren't just killing themselves; they were full-on murderous.
"David, the kids are back!" Miss Miller yelled from inside the Seville home. It didn't take long before the children's parents came rushing out.
"What are all of you doing back so early?" Dave asked, all concerned.
"Uh, we had some issues to resolve," Simon enlightened his father.
"Are you girls still mad at each other?" Miss Miller worried.
"Don't worry, Miss Miller. Brittany, Jeanette, and I are back together," Eleanor assured.
"Oh, thank goodness, I don't know what I would've done if it weren't so," Miss Miller tried to calm herself.
"Did any of you have the time to actually do what you wanted, though?" Dave pointed out. The children all looked at each other with disappointed expressions.
"No," they all answered.
"Oh, well, that's too bad," Miss Miller shook her head.
"So much for our Valentine's Day dates," Brittany sighed. Everyone else collectively frowned as well.
However, Alvin was the first to change his tune. "Hey, the night is still young. How about we all hang out and throw a little party," he suggested, "A stay-at-home triple date if you will."
"Hey, that doesn't sound like a bad idea," Theodore agreed.
"Let's do it," Eleanor cheered.
"Well, Valentine's Day is about being around the people you most care about," Simon nodded.
"This is going to be so much fun!" Jeanette sang.
"Sounds like we're all in agreement," Brittany smirked. She then offered Alvin her arm, and they locked to each other as they made their way inside.
The rest of the night was spent with all six chipmunks having fun with one another. Alvin and Brittany were able to get their thrill battling off in a fighting video game. Theodore and Eleanor could get their movie experience by renting the first Talking Teddy movie and watching it with everyone. Finally, Simon and Jeanette could get their breathtaking view by taking a telescope outside and observing the stars. In the end, everyone got to do what they wanted, and they did it together.
The kids ended off the night with a makeshift dance in the backyard. Each couple danced arm in arm, only deepening their feelings for one another. The Chipmunks were so infatuated by the Chipettes that they needed to serenade them with a song:
(The Chipmunks) Candy Girl
(Theodore) You are my world
(The Chipmunks) You look so sweet
(Theodore) You're a special treat
(The Chipmunks) Candy girl
(Theodore) All I want to say
(The Chipmunks) When you're with me
(Theodore) You brighten up my day
The Chipmunks then stood next to their dates and began to rap about them.
(Theodore) She walks so fast, she looks so sweet
She makes my heart just skip a beat
(Alvin) My girl's the best and that's no lie
She tells me that I'm her only guy
(Simon) That might be true, but my girl's a joy
She don't play around, she's right to the point
(Theodore) My girl's like candy, a candy treat
She knocks me high up off my feet
(Theodore) Candy
(Alvin and Simon) you're my candy
(Theodore) Candy girl
(Alvin and Simon) candy
(Theodore) Candy
(Alvin and Simon) you're my candy
(Theodore) Candy girl
(Alvin and Simon) candy
(The Chipmunks) Candy girl
(Theodore) You are my world
(Simon) You're everything, everything
Everything to me
(Theodore) All I want to say
(Alvin) I need it, need it, need it, need it, need it everyday
(The Chipmunks) Candy girl
Once they finished singing, the Chipettes gave them a big round of applause. Afterward, the six chipmunks laid on a picnic blanket and watched the stars. They were all filled with peace and bliss as they snuggled up to their Valentine's.
"Alvin, this seriously has been the best Valentine's Day ever," Brittany sighed happily.
"It's strange, the six of us just hung out like we always do, but tonight has felt different," Alvin pointed out.
"I'll tell you what's different," Brittany cooed, "It's that we're now closer than ever. You and me, your brothers, and my sisters together. It's all so wonderful."
"Yeah, we do make a nice bunch," Alvin cracked a smile.
After a couple of hours, Dave and Miss Miller came outside to check on their kids, and they couldn't believe their eyes. The Chipmunk and Chipettes all had fallen asleep and were currently snuggling up together.
"Isn't that the most precious thing, David?" Miss Miller awed, "I hate to wake them."
"Well, we can't leave them out here," Dave explained, "They'll catch a cold."
"Aw, but they look so comfortable," the old woman smiled.
"I know," Dave sighed, "How about we take a picture. It'll be our little secret."
And so, Dave took a picture of the snuggling chipmunks. He smiled contently, knowing that no matter what, these six will always be there for each other.
The End
Well, that's the end of this story. Sorry, it took so long to conclude. I've been finishing up my first year of college. I knew this last part was going to be long, but god damn. Either way, I hope you enjoyed reading the whole way through since I had a fun time writing it. Maybe next year, you can give this a re-read when it is actually Valentine's Day.
Alright, here's a couple of announcements. First off, I'm finally changing my username. When I first made this account, I only cared about following other people's stories, so I gave myself a joke name: Jimbo McDaniel. If you are wondering, no, it's not anywhere close to my real name. I got a really unique name, actually, so I'm very hesitant to share it.
So, I'm changing my name to my Twitter name, The Coolmunk. I tweet regularly, and you can stay up to date on my progress.
One last thing regarding the restorations I made. Youtube has taken down Vinny's Visit, but I have uploaded it to google drive. I even made a new one recently of Uncle Harry. You can find the links to everything on my Twitter.
Next time, I think I'll do a short one-shot before finally ending The Nutty Ballad of David Seville. As I always say, I vow to finish every story I write. Anyways, have a happy, extremely late Valentine's Day.
