Recap:

The day and the party slowly ended and on that night, the model duo decided to sleep with the twins between themselves. They all slept like new-borns. The others wondered what was going on and eventually and individually checked in on the four sleeping vampires. They all had their opinions on it. To name a few, Takuma found their position absolutely adorable and took a photo for safekeeping and memory of the semi-casual event, Kaname observed them for a short while and decided to let the bonds strengthen and see the endgame of it and Kain wondered if he should try what Shiki and Rima did.

Chapter 5

The Moon Dorm gates opened and the vampires came out, going on their ways to the school building. Hiro and Toshi calmed down significantly and wanted to talk to Zero about his situation, but he was nowhere to be seen. They considered asking the female prefect, but decided against it. They were still annoyed by her presence. The feeling of irritation in the girl's presence grew each day without them knowing the reason for it. They got to class and the day went on as it always did for the brothers, with a little concern for their friend in their minds. The other vampires noticed something was off with them but let it be.

Then Economics came and the number one hunter stated that he will be their new Economics teacher. The class started roughly, and many threats were thrown around but eventually everyone calmed down. The class came to its end and Yagari asked if anyone had questions. He didn't expect and started to say his goodbyes and leave, before he was stopped.

"Excuse us, sensei, but we have a question." sounded two voices in perfect synch. The teacher looked up and saw a set of twins holding their hands up. He noticed them being the only passive and uncaring vampires in the beginning of class so he thought they wouldn't want to talk to him at all about anything.

"Yes? What's the question?" he asked without really caring but if they had questions, it was his duty to answer as well as he could.

"Can you please tell us what happened to Zero?" asked one of the twins. Now that surprised Yagari. He put his book down and decided to interrogate the vampires.

"And why would you vampires be curious about a hunter's state?" he inquired the two of them. The answer came immediately.

"We want to know how our friend is doing, sir." answered the one with a slightly softer voice. That made him stop one again. Zero was friends with vampires? Since when?

"Are you sure you are his friends?" he questioned purely in disbelief.

"As much as you can be friends with a hunter who hates vampires. He tolerates us in the very least." said the other twin. Yagari didn't see that they could be lying, so he told them the truth.

"He is in isolation. If you want to visit him guest room of chairman's private quarters." He told them and waited if they had more questions concerning Zero.

"Will he still be himself after this?" asked the softer-looking one with genuine concern in his voice.

"Not likely. Can I ask your ranks, vampires?" he asked the twins with interest. Kaname picked up the interest and he added that fact to his list of 'Strange things the Inume twins achieved'.

"Inume Toshihiro (Toshi) and Yasuhiro (Hiro), D-Class vampires. We drank our sire's blood not long after he turned us on our request. He died not long ago. He killed himself." They said and the last part was noticeably a hard pill to swallow for them. They must have loved their sire a lot, Yagari came to the conclusion. This topic made the others curious. The brothers were never open about their turning so a lot of them heard about this for the first time.

"Why would you request to be turned?" asked the baffled hunter. He never heard vampires admitting to ask to be turned.

"My brother was sick and it was likely that he would have not lived for long a few years ago, so out parents wanted to separate us. We couldn't bare that so we ran away. We met our sire while we were on the run and after he listened to us he told us we could live together forever so we accepted his offer." answered the presumably older. This was new to everyone. The vampires realized why the two of them would cling to each other like they were each other's lifelines at last. That's because they WERE each other's lifelines. The hunter now realized why Zero would be friends with them. They were like him and Ichiru if Kiryuu twins had different circumstances.

"Well, nice to meet you two. Now, I have errands to do, so goodbye. Have a nice evening, class!" said the hunter and with that he left the room.

The class looked at the two boys and realized that not everyone has it easy. That humans are fragile and sometimes the only cure for an illness is to become a monster. That the two of them probably wouldn't be able to live without the other if one of them died. Eternity is a really long time, after-all, if you spend it alone.

Soon after the little interrogation, the twins decided to visit Zero and see how he is doing. After all, if he wasn't going to be himself for long, they should spend as much time together as they can. They saw Kaname walking towards the same direction, but they kept their distance just in case if the pureblood decided to make a small talk, which they didn't want at the moment. Then they saw Yuuki walking towards them, with bandage on her neck. The brothers knew what happened, and if it was an indicator, Kaname's aura told them that the pureblood knew it too. It was subtle, however the twins were sensitive to energies, so they felt it. Kaname was furious, even if he hid it from Yuuki well. He let her go but was stopped by the taunting hunter, who became their Economics teacher. The taunting went on until the sole human of the group snapped.

"Why don't you tear Zero apart?" came the question from Yagari and his cigarette's end was cut off by the wind, most likely caused by Kaname's powers. The answer, however came from the younger Inume twin, who was sitting on a branch with his twin.

"He doesn't want to lose his lady love. That's why." said Hiro half teasingly and half seriously. His face was stuck between the two emotions too. Kaname nodded and left the scene. The siblings watched him leave but stayed behind.

"What are you still doing here? Don't you have a vampire in isolation to see?" asked the hunter and lit his cigarette again. The brothers sighed and shook their heads.

"I think we don't have to worry about him with what Cross-san did for him, to be honest." answered the formerly ill twins. The other grimaced and started to complain.

"Tch! That girl is a real bleeding heart. I don't know if it irritates me or stresses me out more anymore." said Toshi in a biting tone. Yagari instantly sensed his strong dislike towards the girl who didn't leave him (Yagari) alone earlier that day.

With that, they gave a note to Yagari and asked him to relay it to Zero in their stead. They went back to the school building and Yagari was left alone to analyse their actions silently. The vampires saw the dissatisfied faces of the twins and they didn't know what to make of that. Only Kaname knew what could have made them unhappy and he was smirking behind his hand.

'I wander if it's jealousy. I want to see how you react to that, Toshihiro, Yasuhiro. Show me how you act now that you experience this feeling too.'

Takuma saw his friends face and he was not sure if he should be worried about the twins or not. He concluded that he had to wait to see the endgame so he left it alone.

- Time skip: next night –

Kaname and the twins saw Zero putting a blanket over Yuuki in the principal's private quarters but suddenly his eyes flashed. They all waited to see what would happen (read: if they had to interfere). He resister the bloodlust and the siblings sighed in relief. In relief that their friend can still be himself, even if it may not be for long.

They went outside when Zero noticed the Night Class students and talked a bit. Kaname shared the reason he kept Zero alive for (which was to keep Yuuki safe) and left immediately. The silver-haired male looked at the twins and waited for them to start the conversation. It was Toshi who broke the silence.

"You are a coward. If you want to die, at least come to us for death and let us drink your blood before you go. That would at least give meaning to your death." Said the older brother.

"That's your only concern? That I don't let you drink my blood?" asked Zero in disbelief.

"No, you idiot. He means, unless you go mad, your death is not worth it. You should live as long as you can as yourself and not waste your time thinking about suicide or making someone kill you." scolded the younger brother. Zero nodded and replied.

"I'm sorry to make you worry, Toshi, Hiro! I'm not going to think about unnecessary things like that again, I promise!" he said with a sincere smile and the twins pouted. In a flash, they hugged Zero like clingy koalas and rubbed their faces into his torso.

"Welcome back, Zero! We missed you!" they smiled and stayed like this, eventually falling asleep together in the barn with Lily. That is how Takuma, Kain, Shiki and Rima found them then left them alone. It seemed like the twins were lighter and happier now that they made up with the hunter. None of the vampires would have admitted that, but they were starting to miss the bubbly and happy set of twins, so they let it go and let the twins skip a few lessons. A few hours later, Seiren and Kaname carried the brothers back to their dorm room, seeing as lessons were finished and Kaname punished the four nobles lightly for not waking the twins up.

The twins were blissfully unaware of these events as well, being away in a dreamland far-far away.
