Davis stood in front of a mirror in carousel boutique. He had to hand it to Rarity. She was good in replicating the USAAF dress uniforms and buttons. It had been four months since the incident with Filthy Rich's son and it was nearing the time of the Grand Galloping Gala. To the Flyers' shock, Filthy Rich had actually done what he promised. The Flyers now had an airfield, complete with a concrete runway and a hangar for the B-17. In other news, Scootaloo was happily living with rainbow in Cloudsdale, but visits regularly to be with her foster father. Davis and the rest of the crew were proud of cory. He was taking the role of being a dad seriously.
Speaking of whom. The corporal was adjusting his uniform whilst rainbow helped him with the tie. "You sure you've never worn a tie before?" Rainbow asked her coltfriend. The only person that needed to wear a tie with his uniform was Aaron when he needed to meet with the top brass back home." Cory said. "Top Brass?" she asked scoffing as Benson left the changing room. "in other words, our superior officers." He said before noticing AJ. "well, ain't you a ray of sunshine in that dress Jackie." Applejack's face heated up as she used her hat to hide her blush.
"What do you think Aaron." A voice said. Davis turned towards and nearly choked on the water he had gotten before coming to get his dress uniform. In front of him was Skye Stryker in a stunning red dress. She had the right side of her mane in a ponytail (pun not intended) resting on her shoulder. The left side was neatly brushed. "Very nice." Davis said stunned at how beautiful she was. While Cory and Benson were already in a relationship with two of the elements of harmony, he was conflicted with Skye. Davis had his heartbroken twice, but Skye also had hers broken.
Aero Blaze had told him about Skye's ex-coltfriend, which was a pegasus named Silver Shock. He had been the one whom had started Skye's dream and the first person to support her. When he got accepted into the Wonderbolts the two grew apart until she caught him flirting with another mare. Davis had to contain his anger to avoid throwing a chair. He vowed to Aero Blaze that if he and Silver Shock ever met; the son of a bitch would deal with the entire crew of the Celtic Flyer. When the crew learned of this they agreed. They might not attack him, but they'd at least intimidate him. Skye asked if she could go with him to the Gala. As a friend, not as a date. Aero would be there, but she'd be part of an air show performed by the Wonderbolts having been accepted by them. "Time to go fellas." Mason said.
Later at Canterlot.
"its good to see the city back to normal after what occurred six and a half months ago." Kevin said adjusting his side cap. Davis adjusted the two bars on his side cap. "Are they straight?" he asked Skye, whom giggled. "Yes they are. Speaking of which is that your cutie mark?" she asked. "Not really. It actually symbolizes his rank. a single solid bar represents my rank." Daniels said tapping the bar on his side cap.
"Presenting the guests of honor, Captain Davis and the crew of the Celtic Flyer." A royal guard said gaining many high class ponies' attention before going back to their business. "wow, frosty reception." Cory said. "Don't worry. It isn't you Cory. All high class ponies are like this. Except Filthy Rich." Rainbow said referring to the kindness the high class pony showed to the Flyers after learning of his son's actions.
That's when rainbow noticed a yellow pegasus with a two tone orange mane and tail in a Wonderbolts officer uniform. "There's spitfire." She said. "Who?" Davis asked. "She's the leader of the Wonderbolts." Rainbow explained. "Ah, going to try to impress her?" Cory asked. "Sort of, can you and Davis talk to her with me? I have a feeling that it won't go well." Davis pondered this. Rainbow wasn't a Flyer, but she was dating Cory. "You know I will." Her coltfriend said. "Same here." Daniels said. "You may not be a Flyer Rainbow, but you are family" Davis said as the three flyers, earth pony, and pegasus made their way to the pegasus.
Spitfire was talking with one of the sponsors for the air show that had happened earlier when she noticed rainbow dash, a pegasus whom she knew wanted to be in the Wonderbolts, approached her with an earth pony and three of the guests of honor. Her eyes widened at the one with two bars on his hat. She thanked the sponsor, who then left. "Hello rainbow. Trying to beg me to let you become a cadet again?" she asked.
The cyan mare shook her head. "I wanted to introduce you to some friends of mine." This made her raise an eyebrow. "First, this is Cory. My coltfriend." Rainbow said as cory gave a curt nod. "A pleasure." Cory said holding out a hand. Spitfire took the hand shook it a bit shocked that rainbow's coltfriend was one of the Flyers, whom she adored. Rainbow looked to the others. The one next to cory then spoke up. "First lieutenant Mike Daniels. I'm the co pilot of the Celtic Flyer. I like the shades by the way." Daniels said making Spitfire blush slightly. She hadn't expected him to flirt with her. "Thanks. I think." Spitfire said. "And that is…" Rainbow began. "Captain Aaron Davis, United States Army Air Force." Davis said. "and this is cadet Skye Stryker." He said gesturing to the earth pony. "Your Aero's sister correct?" Spitfire asked as Skye nodded. "She told me that you wanted to fly, and while you aren't a pegasus I fully support your dream." She said. "Oh, I don't believe I've introduced myself. I'm commander Spitfire of the Wonderbolts." Davis, Cory, and Daniels saluted on pure instinct confusing Spitfire. "Forgive us. It's just that your rank is above ours." Daniels said. "You're not part of the Wonderbolts so you don't need to salute." Spitfire said before approaching the lieutenant. "Why don't we get some drinks." She said in a flirty tone.
Daniels became flustered he heard Davis and Cory chuckle. Here was a pony asking him if he wanted to have some wine. A voice spoke up. "Commander is something wrong?" Skye's eyes widened. "Silver Shock." She muttered loud enough to be heard by Davis. He immediately stopped chuckling and glared at the approaching grey colored pegasus. This also got Daniels and Cory's attention as they stepped in front of Skye with displeased expressions. Spitfire was about to intervene when Rainbow put a wing and hand in front of her. "I wouldn't if I were you."
Silver was nervous seeing three of the heroes of Canterlot stare him down before the lead one pinned him against the balcony railing. Davis pulled a fist back before speaking. "So, you're the asshat that cheated on Skye." He said. "if I could, I would threaten you with court martial." Silver Shock was scared. "However, I'm not your CO (commanding officer). So, I'll give you a warning. Come near her again, we will hunt you down and give you one hell of a beating." Davis said before decking him in the jaw.
"Rainbow, what the hell just happened." Spitfire asked as Davis dropped Silver Shock on the ground. "The Flyers have a code. Mess with one of us, you mess with all of us." The cyan mare said before looking at the yellow mare. "They're pretty nice guys once you get to know them." Daniels sighed looking at Spitfire. "Sorry you had to see that." he said smiling grimly. "I guess we won't get those drinks now." Spitfire gave him a neutral look. Daniels' grim smile fell. "Guess not." He said before looking out towards the night sky leaning on the railing.
Spitfire turned to leave before a hand touched her shoulder. Turning she saw Skye. "Don't hold it against him" she said looking at Daniels. "He, Cory, and Davis were just acting on instinct." Spitfire took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. She may not have liked what her idols did, but she still adored them for their code. Spitfire flickered her ears and approached Daniels. "The drinks are still open." She said as Daniels smiled. "Shall we?" he asked offering his arm. Spitfire blushed heavily before linking one arm with his.
The remaining quartet watched them go. "Seventy-five bits says Daniels asks her to be his marefriend before the night is done." Davis said gaining the remaining Flyers and Rainbow's attention. "Really sir?" Cory said. "ninety bits says Spitfire spends the night with us in his room." Davis grinned. "Done." Rainbow and Skye looked at each other thinking the same thing. "Boys will be boys."
"Well, I should meet up with Princess Celestia." Davis said. "Understood sir." Cory said holding rainbow's hand. Before Davis and Skye parted ways with rainbow and Cory, the cyan mare spoke up. "Watch out for Blueblood." Davis raised an eyebrow. "Who." Skye then explained. "Prince blueblood, princess Celestia's nephew. An overall jackass. Wouldn't surprise me if he'd try to instigate something with you and the rest of the flyers." Davis nodded "Thanks for the heads up rainbow." He said as Cory kissed the cyan mare.
Blueblood watched in disgust as the element of loyalty shared a kiss with one of the so called "heroes of Canterlot". 'How could aunt Celestia praise these hairless apes. They should have been exiled the moment they arrived.' He thought. "Prince Blueblood I hope you don't intend to ruin the guests of honor's time at the gala?" a voice said. "of course, auntie." Blueblood said with fake assurance.
"I hope the gala isn't too boring for you Captain." Celestia said. "not at all. There are certainly a lot of colorful people.. er.. ponies I mean." Davis said. celestia giggled at Davis' unintended pun. "Daniels might have a girlfriend or rather, in your case, a marefriend by night's end." This peaked Celestia's interest. "Pray tell who's the lucky mare?" she asked. "Commander Spitfire of the Wonderbolts." Davis said. "Surely you are joking. Commander spitfire would never take an interest in the likes of your kind." Blueblood scoffed snidely. "I assume you are blueblood?" Davis asked in a flat unamused tone. The arrogant unicorn nodded. Davis got into his face. "If you ever insult me or my crew again, my crew and I will not hesitate to beat you to a pulp." He said as blueblood opened his mouth to speak. "I don't give a rat's ass that you're Celestia's nephew. We aren't a group you want to mess with. The elements may tolerate your shenanigans, but we won't." Davis said with a threatening glare. Celestia then stepped in. "For your safety, I suggest you take this warning seriously nephew. They are genuine. Filthy Rich's son learned the hard way." She said grimacing.
Blueblood huffed and departed. Davis watched him go with an angry expression. "That went well." Skye said relief in her voice as Daniels and Spitfire came up. "Those drinks were interesting." Daniels said. "Please it was just wine." Spitfire said before noticing Blueblood glaring at her as he passed by. "I prefer tequila or beer, but you're the boss." Daniels noticed the look on his friend's face. "Blueblood has me targeted." She said. before Daniels could ask her what she meant his superior spoke up. "If he tries anything Spitfire, you have ten people and two ponies to back you up." Spitfire looked up to see Davis walking to them with the rest of the Flyers and rainbow dash. She looked at Daniels whom had taken her hand into his. "The Captain's right, you may not be a flyer, but would you like to be a part of the Flyer family?" Spitfire rose an eyebrow. She knew what Daniels meant by family, but was slightly confused by it.
Rainbow saw her confused look. "For crying out loud. Mike's asking if you'd like to be his marefriend." She said. Spitfire's eyes widened as her head snapped to face Daniels. "I won't stop you, if you decide to decline." He said. Spitfire's response was to simply hug Daniels and say something that was muffled. "What was that?" Daniels asked. "I said yes." Spitfire said. "Welcome to the family Spitfire." Daniels said kissing her.
A/N: that's chapter 5. Yes spitfire will be a part of the Flyer family, but won't be part of the Flyers themselves due to her position of commander. Next up will be the finale to Steel Skies: Equestria. The reason being is that it'll intertwine with the sequel which is called Steel Skies 2: Wolves of the Empire.
