The first day at Beacon dawned bright and early for the four girls making up Team RWBY.

Mainly because four separate alarms on four separate Scrolls had gone off at once.

I couldn't take it, couldn't stand another minute

Come at me And You'll see I'm more than

Above the darkness and the shame Above the tor

Mirror tell me something Tell me who's the lone

Four separate alarms were also hastily shut off on four swiftly grabbed Scrolls. Each were promptly dropped back down after the cacophony of noise all four had produced together.

"What a racket…" Yang was the first to rise out of bed, a glance outside showing the sun was at least rising over Beacon Academy so they weren't up too early. She yawned and stretched her arms over her head before finally offering her Scroll more than an annoyed glance at waking her up.

Why all of Team RWBY had set an alarm two hours ahead of their first class, Yang would never know.

"Morning Yang." Ruby moved her sleep mask off her face.

"Ah, Ruby! You still tell you big sis good morning!" Yang threw herself over her bed and onto Ruby's, engulfed her in a crushing hug that definitely succeeded in waking the both of them up. Her mad scrambled to free herself made Yang laugh before she decided to let her go. There was plenty of time across the day to mess with her after all. "Excited for our first day?"

"It's just classes…" Ruby almost dropped back on her bed before deciding against it. She glanced to her barely unpacked luggage. On top of it, Beacon's uniform was waiting.

She swallowed down any nerves trying to rise up.

Today was a new day. Today was a day she could prove that she wasn't a kid. She could prove to everyone on Team RWBY that she would make a great leader. She could prove that Ozpin wasn't wrong.

She grabbed her Scroll, decided on going over the notes Yang had suggested she make for their first day, had let her work out what she wanted to focus on, what she wanted to talk to all of them about.

'First thing first.' She swallowed down her nerves. 'I can do this.'

Talk to Weiss.

She had to do it. She had practiced. She knew what she was going to say. She just had to tell her.

Tell Weiss all of it.

Talk to Weiss.

She had to be a leader.

Even if Weiss just ignored her, she had to talk to her.

Even if Weiss still hated her, she had to talk to her.

"Um…Weiss. Could I talk to you for a second?" Ruby had waited until all four had finished getting dressed, had only let herself avoid this conversation for that long.

Weiss had looked up from her Scroll on her bed but she at least nodded. Not immediate rejection was good.

Yang and Blake both made themselves scarce, Yang shooting a look of concern towards Ruby before she smiled and gave her a nod. She shut the door.

"I want to say sorry. About everything. Sneezing and blowing up your dust, acting like I did when we fought the Nevermore, what I did when it was carrying you, not helping you once I landed." She resisted the urge to occupy her hands with her cloak, kept them held in front of her. "I didn't act the way a partner or a leader should during any of that. I know I can't change what you think of me right now but I want to work to change." She didn't break eye contact, couldn't. She had to be firm and honest and determined to be a leader. "We didn't start off on the best foot. We're partners now and I want to work together with you, work with Yang and Blake too, let RWBY be the best we can be together."

Weiss said nothing.

Ruby looked away.

"Y-You don't have to accept it. I know things are b-"

Ruby stopped when Weiss lifted a hand.

"I wanted to apologize too. As much as you say you're at fault for what happened, I'm too blame as well. I should've known better than to shake Dust in front of you like that and I unduly ridiculed you, treated our partnership more like you were an employee than an equal. My actions after you were named leader are also something I want to apologize for. I acted immature and rash, didn't speak with you first on the matter and went to Headmaster Ozpin instead." Weiss squeezed her hands. "I'm sorry. For all my talk of being mature, I had to have someone point out to me I was being childish myself."

Neither Weiss or Ruby knew what else to say now.

Both had started today knowing they had to talk to the other without a plan beyond that, had both wanted to apologize for yesterday and the day before.

And now they had.

It had even been easy.

Barely an inconvenience for either.

'What am I supposed to do now?' Neither knew they shared the same thought, had faced today with the same goal and now found it easily accomplished.

"I think we should start over!" Ruby blurted out the first thing she could think of. Weiss had no idea what she was going on about until she dropped her hands and stepped back, cleared her throat. "Hello stranger. I'm Ruby Rose! Nice to meet you!" She smiled as she offered her hand.

Weiss stared at the offered hand for a moment in confusion before she smiled. Despite herself or anything she thought, she smiled at Ruby's earnestness to make things right.

"Hello Ruby Rose. My name is Weiss Schnee. A pleasure to meet you as well." Weiss accepted her hand.

After all, it would've been childish not to. Ruby Rose was more than capable of being mature. She was willing to acknowledge she had done things wrong in the past two days, had recognized she needed to change to better herself and better the people around her, be a leader for her team. Weiss would do the same. She would help Ruby be the best leader she could. Weiss Schnee wouldn't stand for an unexceptional partner after all.

"I promise to be the best leader I can be!"

"And I promise to help you achieve such a thing."

"Thanks Weiss."

"Don't thank me yet Ruby. I can be quite the stern teacher."

"YES!" Yang whisper shouted from the hallway when she heard Ruby start to laugh, Weiss joining her. She had been listening to the entire conversation over her muted Scroll with Blake's. Her partner hadn't been against the idea when she had suggested it and had stood close to her to hear what was going on inside. "My baby sister is so cool!"

"Sure she is." Blake couldn't help her small smile at the energy that Yang seemed show with everything she did. She also couldn't deny that the tension that had been around RWBY since its formation had simply vanished with the two seemingly coming to an agreement.

The door behind them opened.

"Hey Yang…is something going on?" Jaune poked his head out into the hall, JNPR's room lit up but the four still far from ready yet it seemed.

"Nope!" Yang shoved him back inside and stepped in herself, pocketing Blake's Scroll after ending the call and dragging her in behind her. "So, what have you been up to?"

"Um…not much?" He rubbed the back of his head, glanced around the room. "I guess all we really did was unpack yesterday, check our schedules." He spotted the Deathstalker stinger Nora had set up in the corner for now. "Oh yeah! We're going to have a team vote on what to do with that thing later!" He nodded along to what he said, smiled. "That was pretty important I guess."

"Cool." Yang dropped down onto what she figured was his bed, Blake staying near the door because she had no idea what was going on or why she was even here. "So, I need you to talk to my sister."

"Why?" Jaune went back to his luggage, grabbed the blue vest he had yet to put on. "I figured you would want her to handle this on her own after yesterday."

"I did. Now I want you to talk to her." Yang picked up his Scroll from his bed. "So, what's the password for your Scroll?"

"That trick's not working on me." Jaune shook his head with a smile. "Seven sisters, remember?" He finished buttoning up the vest and took his Scroll from Yang. "If you want me to talk to her, just let me know and I'll make the time."

"Sure." Yang stood up and handed him the jacket he was looking around for on and around his bed. "We'll talk some more later. See you later Lover Boy." She gave an over-the-top wink as she headed back towards the door, earned a good-natured shake of Jaune's head at her antics. "Bye!"

She lifted a hand in goodbye before grabbing a confused Blake again and dragging her back out into the hall.

"What just happened?" Blake finally asked the pressing question on her mind at absolutely everything she had just seen. "You and Jaune know each other? You're friends?"

"Yeah. We got to know each other yesterday. He's a big brother, I'm a big sister. He's got seven sisters, I've got one adorable little sis. We have a lot of things we just clicked with." Yang used Blake's Scroll to open the door to RWBY's room, smiled at the sight of her sister and Weiss having worked things out, Weiss going over a binder she had no idea on the origins of with Ruby, silver eyes focused on what she was reading.

"Sup little sis?" Yang offered a wave as she strode back to her bed. She took up her Scroll with a noise of triumph. "Thanks for the loan Blake." She tossed Blake her Scroll back. "Can't believe I forgot my Scroll in her."

"Yeah. It was lucky I had mine." Blake was already heading over to her bed, checking the time before she picked up a book from one of her open bags of luggage. "We would've been locked out without it."

"And I'll make sure not to forget mine next time." She gave Blake a wink. Her partner only shook her head.

Weiss and Ruby finished their conversation a few minutes later, Yang shooting her sister a look and getting a smile and a nod in return. Yang was happy they had worked out their differences.

Although, if Weiss went back to calling Ruby names than she was punching that attitude out of her.

For now, she occupied her time with a game on her Scroll.

After who knows how many rounds with whoever else was on the CCTS, she decided to copy Blake and checked the time on her Scroll. She rose a blonde eyebrow. "We've still got a lot of time left until our first class." She glanced around the room, the plain walls, the still packed up luggage for most of them. "Think we can start decorating?"

"We'll have to do that after classes are done for the day." Ruby spoke up from where she was sitting on her bed. "I'm sure we'll think of something to make this place look like Team RWBY!" She checked her Scroll.

She checked the list.

Talk to Weiss. She considered that done for now. Her and Weiss had fixed their problem. Or at least started on the path to fix it. She gave it a check.

Talk to Blake.

Talk to Yang.

She didn't know which of the next two would be harder, she didn't know Blake but she knew more than enough about Yang.

She wanted to fall onto her bed but fought against the urge. She couldn't do that. She had leader things to do. 'I definitely think talking to Yang is going to be harder.' She tugged on her cloak, balled it up in one of her hands. 'I don't know Blake but…she doesn't seem that bad. Weiss said she's not bad. She talked to her yesterday.'

She didn't know why she was dreading talking to Yang more than talking to Weiss. It should definitely be the other way around.

'It should be easier than talking to Weiss.' She had to be positive. 'Yang will understand where I'm coming from…and I'm talking to Blake first.'

She stared at her amber eyed teammate, currently focused on the book in her hands. She turned the page.

'But how do I talk to her?' She internally panicked. She found herself doing that more than she should be ever since coming to Beacon Academy. 'I don't know anything about her. I don't even know what her weapon is! How do I not even know what her weapon is?'

"Hey Blake! Can I talk to you later?"

"Sure." Blake didn't bother looking up from her book. She flipped to the next page in it. "What time?"

"Um…after lunch is good." Ruby had to work on her leader voice. She hoped they taught a class on it or maybe offered it on the weekends. "If anything changes for either of us, we can message each other on our Scrolls. We should all have each other's numbers already programmed in."

"Sound good." Blake put her book down to confirm what Ruby said, finding the numbers of Weiss, Yang, and Ruby all in her Scroll.

'Mission accomplished!' Ruby mentally congratulated herself on her success. 'I can do this!'

She stood up from her bed.

"Alright Team RWBY, Beacon starts breakfast soon and our first class is with Professor Port at 9 o'clock sharp! Make sure to be there! I have to go and do something first but I'll be sure to meet you there!" She stopped at the door.

"Sure."

"We'll be sure to be there, Ruby."

"You got it sis."

Blake, Weiss, and Yang had different responses to what she said but Ruby focused in on them all being positive. That was a great bonus right now.

"Alright. See you there!" She marched out the room and closed the door.

She almost immediately collapsed back against it.

"I am so not ready for this." She wanted to wrap herself up in her cloak and her blankets and not deal with any of this leader stuff for the rest of forever. "But I can do this. I will do this." She nodded to herself. "Nothing is going to stop Ruby Rose! Nothing!" She more whispered than shouted in the hallway. "Not even having to talk to people."

She just needed a little time to herself before then.

She just needed a little time.

"I can do this. I can do this. For four whole years. Always be responsible. Always do leader stuff. I can do this."

She headed off down the hallway.

The door across the hall opened. Blue eyes followed her with concern before they turned to the other three behind him.

"Let's head to breakfast." Team JNPR's leader was the last to leave, spared one last glance down the hall before he decided to follow a waiting Pyrrha. Nora was happily heading off with Ren, explaining something about pancakes and syrup for Magnhild.

He didn't want to know what those things had to do with each other.

"What's wrong Jaune?" Pyrrha noticed her team leader wasn't exactly focused as they headed off to Beacon's dining hall. "Did you forget something?"

"No." Jaune shook his head, made an effort to focus on her. "I'm just worried about Ruby. You and Nora saw her yesterday after everything, right?"

"Oh no. We ran into her sister's partner, Blake." Pyrrha earned a nod from Jaune.

"Right. The really mysterious girl." He had caught sight of her a few times during Initiation and the ceremony afterwards for the teams but that was all. He figured Nora, Ren, and now Pyrrha knew her far better than he did right now. All he got from the girl was mystery. Something about her made her like a shadow or something, easy to miss if she wanted you to.

"I suppose you could call her that. She may just be more of a private person than you're used to." Pyrrha's green eyes were focused on Jaune's face as he thought things over, nodded to himself at what she had said. "So Jaune, what do you like in a girl?"

"Huh?" Jaune promptly tripped over his own two feet at the unexpected question, would have ended up face first on the ground if Pyrrha hadn't caught him by the back of his uniform. She helped put him back on his feet and earned a smile of gratitude from the blonde. "Thanks. Sorry about that. I just didn't expect the question."

"Do you still want to answer or is it to personal? I'm sorry if I'm asking something too private, I'm just curious about my team leader I guess." Pyrrha's face was red for a number of reasons as she laughed. Laughing was good, she could play it off as a joke, gentle ribbing between partners, and nothing personal about it at all.

"No problem!" Jaune was back to smiling. "I've been quizzed about everything before." He brought a hand up to his chin in thought. "What do I like in a girl?" He smiled. "I can't really say anything about that. I guess I just like having friends. As long as you're not a bad person, I like you." He looked to Pyrrha. "What about you? What do you like in a girl?"

"Oh. I guess the same. Friends are great. Yep. Absolutely wonderful. There was nothing more to that question at all." Pyrrha's laughter was forced as she managed a smile while inside her thoughts were in turmoil at her sudden realization. Her sudden crushing realization about Jaune.

'Right. He has SEVEN sisters. He may not even think about girls like that.' She wanted to scream as the thought ripped through her mind but held it in. A polite smile was on her face even if it wouldn't reach her eyes. 'Don't panic. Jaune's just charmingly oblivious. Yes, just painfully oblivious about a girl liking him. Another one of his charms. Yes, it's a charm.'

She looked up ahead to Nora and Ren to escape her thoughts, the two having pulled further ahead of the two once Nora had begun dragging Ren behind her in earnest, exclaiming she would need more syrup than she thought. Ren didn't offer many protests to whatever she had planned but both heard something about grenades being involved now.

Their conversation now forgotten, Pyrrha and Jaune shared a panicked look before rushing to catch up with the other pair making up Team JNPR.

"Nora! What are you planning?"

Her laughing didn't ease any of their new worries. Neither did Ren's sigh.

"Nora!"
