I am so sorry this is late please don't hate me I had so much school
Hermione was liking Hogwarts, she was creating strong friendships with a few students and enjoying her classes. However, Hermione was not regretting her decision to attend Beauxbatons.
The first task was three days away and Hermione's chest was tight at the thought of her friends, especially Fleur putting themselves in such unknown danger. Hermione was walking through the halls on the way to her first class when she was pulled into an alcove.
"Hey!" Hermione shouted in protest to the unknown person turning quickly and recognizing the wild hair. It was Harry and she shot him a venomous glare at being grabbed in such a manner.
Fixing her hair, "What is so important you are making me late to Herbology?"
"Dragons" Harry whispered urgently, "We're facing dragons!"
If Hermione was the fainting type, she would have done it right there. Her heart dropped, Fleur - HER Fleur was going to be facing a dragon.
"I have to tell Fleur"
"You probably won't need to, Hagrid showed Madame Maxime last night she's probably telling Fleur today"
Harry quickly explained that Hagrid had taken him to see the dragons last night and that there were four, one for each contestant.
"Meet me in the library after classes end, we'll make a plan"
Hermione was thoroughly chastised by Professor Sprout when she showed up to class ten minutes late, but Hermione just nodded numbly. Classes passed in a hazy blur for Hermione, she didn't raise her hand nor answer any questions. She walked blindly to lunch, sitting next to Harry. Fleur looked unusually pale and wouldn't meet Hermione's eye. Her put-togetherness was not even visible today with messy hair and apparent stress lines, her veela nature kept her beautiful. In fact, it was only Hermione who would notice the difference because she knew her so well.
"Savez-Vous?" Hermione demanded abruptly in French, her eyes staring into Fleurs.
"Savoir quoi?" Fleur replied, her tone too high to be casual.
"la tache, savez-vous ce que c'est?
Fleur's head dropped to the table and she weakly answered, "oui."
Hermione grabbed Fleur's hand and tightened her grip fiercely. Conveying her love and support through that grip. Fleurs eyes raised from her head and they quickly planned to go to the library after classes ended.
Hermione didn't pay attention in one class that day, choosing to skip supper to go to the library. She quickly skirted to different rows of books, one on dragons another on their weakness. A dragonology book was put back after a quick glance showed it was mostly on animal husbandry. Hermione was in a whirlwind around the library, some students shot her curious glances as she jumped from row to row. A book on defensive magic was placed in the pile, and another on offensive magic. Hermione wondered if the man who had shown groups of fourth years the unforgivable would sign a note for the restricted section.
Harry appeared at their usual table, followed by Fleur.
"Well, you two start reading I'll be back." Hermione nodded decisively and started walking towards their defence classroom.
Professor Moody gave Hermione a weird vibe. It had started when the man had the audacity to show fourteen-year-olds the unforgivable curses. After that his teaching and constant paranoia set Hermione on edge, his glass eye seemed to see everything, and no one knew what the flask he constantly had at his side contained.
Arriving at her destination, Hermione suddenly wasn't sure of her decision. Hesitating she knocked at his door, a gruff voice belonging to Professor Moody told her to enter.
"Professor, I had a question," Hermione stated as innocently as she could watching as the man seemed to stare into her soul. He nodded for Hermione to continue.
"Well, as you have emphasized constant vigilance this term. I was wondering if I could have a pass to the restricted section just to be extra prepared for dark curses, and creatures you know?"
Professor Moody gave a wild laugh, it frightened Hermione and she wondered what his grasp on sanity was. Supposably this man was a huge player in the first wizarding war, so Hermione figured she could excuse the insanity. She watched as Professor Moody opened a drawer and removed a quill and piece of parchment. He scribbled something on one piece of parchment before getting another piece and writing some more.
Finally done, Moody held both slips out to the young girl and she took them slowly. Her eyes flitting from the parchment to her teacher's face.
"A pass for the rest of term and some suggestions" Professor Moody exclaimed gruffly and motioned for the girl to leave with a flick of his wand. His door opened in response and Hermione left quickly shouting her thanks over her shoulder.
Hermione quickly pursued the listed suggestions as she walked quickly back to the library.
"Slaying a Dragon by Ignatius Pitterwald"
"Dragon Hide: Properties and how to slice by Nathaniel Leifold"
"100 Darkest curses and hexes by Mattiew Bathieu"
"Dragonology: How to fool your dragon by Jakob Krum"
He must have known, exactly why she was requesting that pass. Despite the creepy old professors' vigilance, he was both useful and informative. In a way, Hermione's heart twisted, as the champions were now going to knowingly cheat, and Hermione Granger had never cheated at anything in her life. She justified to herself that this wasn't her OWLs or end-of-year exams it was a life-or-death situation with people she cared deeply about in danger, cheating wasn't even the right word. Preparation to survive was a better term, oh she knew Fleur shouldn't have put her name in the goblet!
Back at the library, Hermione handed her permission slip to Madame Pince. The older librarian pursed her lips at the slip but nodded shooting a pointed look to Hermione. Quickly, the books from the restricted section were added to the pile and Hermione sat down between Harry and Fleur.
"Ok, so Harry if I showed you species of Dragons would you be able to identify the ones Hagrid showed you?"
Harry glanced up from his book on helpful hexes and curses and looked curious but nodded. Hermione pulled a Dragon species book from the pile and handed it to Harry before opening her first book from the restricted section, she glanced at Fleurs' book and nodded, that one would be helpful.
It was sometime later when Harry interrupted the group again showing them the dragons they would be facing. It was a Hungarian Horntail, Swedish Short snout, Common Welsh green and a Chinese fireball.
Hermione decidedly told them they need to find the properties of all the species and find different ways to defeat each one.
The Hungarian horntail was decidedly the nastiest dragon they would have to deal with. It was incredibly fast and could shoot fire up to fifty feet. Clearly to neutralize that dragon they would need speed and fire neutralizing spells. Hermione started to create a list of ways they could defeat each dragon. Hermione hoped desperately and perhaps a little selfishly as she glanced at Harry that Fleur would get the Common Welsh Green.
Harry told them that he had told Cedric that they would be facing dragons and Hermione was relieved, she had completely forgotten about the older boy in her fear-induced study state.
They also planned to corner Viktor Krum and give him the news, when Hermione exclaimed it would be an unfair advantage for three of the four champions to go into the task prepared.
Hours later, the trio had a list of spells and plans to send the next few days studying them. They had fire protection charms, water creation curses and more. Harry had suggested out flying the dragon and Hermione had to carefully consider the possibilities before agreeing. Obviously, theses dragons would be chained, or the crowds would be in danger. Perhaps Harry could outfly the dragon especially on the firebolt he claimed to have.
They all made plans to meet on the Quidditch pitch the next day after classes to test if he really had the skill. Harry walked both Hermione and Fleur to the door of the castle before wishing them a good night.
Together, Hermione and Fleur walked in silence to the carriage. Hermione reached out and grabbed Fleur's hand.

"know what?"
"the task, do you know what it is"
