Chapter 6
The next day was pretty much the same, only Dimitri didn't try and talk to me, which I was kind of thankful for. I knew avoiding him wouldn't solve anything, but it also didn't make it worse.
I sort of made routine of my own. In morning I woke up around 5 pm and got ready for my usual morning run and then meet Alberta and some other Guardians that thought they could take me down or wanted a rematch from my trail, and sparred with them till it was almost breakfast time. After I went to the cafeteria to eat with my friends, then I chilled with Adrian for a bit looking at baby stuff that I wanted or needed. After I went to go teach my classes. After classes were over I go and guard Lissa till it was almost curfew.
I tried to find a good time to tell her and the gang that, what Adrian had said before my trail was true but I couldn't get a word in with all their talking. By the time it came time to take Lissa back to her room I didn't think it was best.
"Hey I've got an idea Rose. Why don't I talk to Kirova about getting us a day this week for shopping? The rest of us have graduated yet, we need to get something to wear."
"Well, if you want to, I can talk to her and ask. I am the guardian now Lissa." I said laughing slightly.
"Right, you can do that now, I forgot." She said laughing with me.
"So what day are you thinking?"
"Hm… What about on Tuesday, that way we can also get out of classes."
"Sure, Lissa I'm sure the others will appreciate it."
"Oh! We could ask Tasha and Dimitri to come along."
"Ya that sounds great." I said unhappily.
"I know you don't like her that much Rose but you are going to have to get over it I'm with Christian and she is his aunt."
"I know Lissa."
"Anyway, I will see you tomorrow ok? Don't forget we are doing a movie night in the lounge." Lissa said as she opened her door.
"Of course, I'll be there Lissa. I'm still your best friend, and I think Alberta purposely gave me the weekend off."
"Night Rose."
"Good night Lissa."
I turned and started towards the guardian's dorms. I thought about how well the day had gone. Not a single thing had gone wrong. I hadn't even seen Dimitri or Tasha all day. I started to think about what the next year was going to look like. I'd be Lissa's guardian but I'd have a smaller version of me or of Dimitri to take care of. I new from the moment I found out that I was pregnant I was going to try and be the best mom possible. I was going to put my family first, above anything else. Yes Lissa is included in my family, but I knew she would understand me putting my child before her. Heck I know she will put my child before herself and me.
As I was thinking I stopped walking and stood still for a moment, putting my hands to my abdomen. I never thought I would have kids but now that I am I can't imagen my life without the little one running around calling me mommy and Lissa aunty. I smiled.
"Don't worry little one, mommy will be here for you no matter what." I said as I looked down where my hands were.
"So, Adrian said the truth the other day, you really are pregnant."
I turned and saw Tasha leaning against the wall right by the corner of the moroi building.
"Lady Ozera! I didn't see you there. My apologies if I interrupted you." I said monotone moving my hands behind my back and standing straighter.
"Oh no, you weren't interrupting anything. Though I have to ask who is the father that doesn't want to own up to it?"
"You already know who Lady Ozera. Though I do not see how it is any of your business."
"Please Rose, you do expect me to believe that the child is really Dimitri's. I know you two had an affair but that is just not possible. You can stop trying to fool him and me."
"I am not trying to fool anyone Lady Ozera. It is your choice to believe me or not." I said glaring slightly.
She got up and moved towards me. "Rose, look at me."
I looked at her with caution. When her eyes met mine, I found myself feeling the familiar pull of compulsion. I had to give it to her she was a pretty strong user for being a fire moroi. But I was able to fight her off, though I didn't show I wasn't under her control.
"Rose we both know the baby's father is Adrian not Dimitri. Stop saying that it's his, you are just going to ruin his life by saying it's his. Why don't you just go and tell him the truth about how you drank to much the night after you two were together and slept with Adrian. It would make it easier on him."
"Ya that would make it easier on him, but it's not the truth." I said angrily.
"Wait, What!"
"You really think I don't know when I am being compelled to do something? Lissa is one of the best users in our world. I have seen what it's like to be compelled by moroi, you all make eye contact and put on the sickly-sweet smile. Nice try though."
She stood there stunned. She took a few steps back.
"Now if you will excuse me."
"Wait, compulsion may not have worked but if you care for him you will stop telling him it's his."
"Now why would I do that?" I said crossing my arms.
"Because if you don't make him believe the kid is someone else's I will go right to the head guardian and tell him about your little affair, and Dimitri will lose his job and so will you. You may be a guardian now, but you are still a minor."
"And what are you going to do when I become 18 and am not a minor anymore and they can't do anything?"
"By then he will think the kid is someone else's and I will be pregnant with his kid, and we both know he will believe me when I say it's his. Once that is done he will never leave his kid or me."
"Why are you doing this? You know he doesn't love you, so why?"
"He does love me! He is just blinded by you and your tramp ways." She said with venom in her voice. "Now that we have an understanding. Keep your mouth shut and tell Dimitri the kid is someone else's or ruin both of your lives. It's your choice."
We stood there staring at each other for a minute, until I finally gave in.
"Fine have it your way. I'll tell Dimitri that the kid is someone else's."
"Good. Oh and Rose tell Lissa we are leaving tomorrow night." She said happily as she turned and walked away.
I turned and headed for the guest rooms. I needed to talk to someone, and the only one I could talk to right now was Adrian. I knocked on his door and waited for him to answer. As soon as he opened the door I stormed passed him.
"Well that's not a good sign." He said as he closed the door. "What happened now?"
"Tasha is what happened."
"I'm going to need a little more explanation then that little Dhampir."
"She just threatened me is what happened!"
"Okay…"
I told him what she tried doing and what she said.
"Well then that settles it. Tell him that the baby is mine and that you lied."
"I can't do that Adrian. He will hate me if he found out the truth. Not to mention how much he will hate me for keeping his child from him. But if I tell him and he believes me then Tasha will ruin our lives. Besides all that if the queen were to hear about something about you getting me pregnant she'll have my head after the baby is born."
"Well Rose, I don't see much of a choice here." He said as he got a drink from the fridge.
"And my aunt wouldn't kill you she just might not be happy, I am her favorite nephew after all, plus royals have affairs all the time with dhampirs, not to mention have children with them. How do you think cradle robber is here?" he said laughing slightly.
"Ya I know but I don't want my kid thinking they were just a mistake of a drunken night."
"Then they won't. We can tell them the truth when they get older, if it get's to that point. The only one that has to really believe it is Belikov. We can even tell my aunt what is going on."
"Ya I guess."
He had a point to be safe the only one that needed to believe the lie for now was Dimitri just till he can get away from her.
"Alright I'll tell him when I see him tomorrow when he leaves. If he tries to talk to me. If not then oh well." I said with a smirk. "If I don't get to talk to him I can't tell him that the kid isn't his right. Then he will be left to his own to think about it and make his own choices."
Just then there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." I said I stood up.
I opened the door and froze in shock. On the other side stood a very angry looking Dimitri. Like I did he pushed past me into the apartment only he didn't go to sit down. He just turned to look at me. I slowly closed the door.
"Judging the look on your face I know you heard some of what was said but exactly how much of that did you hear?" I asked cautiously.
"How could you! You just yelled at me yesterday about how the kid is mine! I just started to believe you only for it to be a lie that the two of you made up! I can't believe you Rose, you know how much I want a family! If I could have a family with you I would drop everything to be with you and you used that for your own gain. Just because you didn't want me to leave, Really?! I only left to keep you safe because Tasha knows what happened between us, and here you are sleeping with other people right after we were together! I honestly thought better of you Rose! I didn't think you would try to manipulate me like that!"
"Dimitri please just calm down and listen to me." I said panicked.
"No I am not going to sit here and listen to you try and salvage your lies!" He walked over to the door and opened it. "Have a good life with him, and don't bother coming to see me off tomorrow."
With that he left slamming the door behind him. I stood there shocked. I stayed frozen till the tears started to roll down my face and my knees gave out and I landed on the couch. Once the tears started they wouldn't stop, then eventually they turned into sobs as everything was setting in.
"He hates me…he really hates me now." I said quietly.
"No, he doesn't Rose. He just believes a lie right now. he overheard the wrong part of a conversation. That was honestly some of the worst timing I have ever seen, but he will get over it and calm down and come to his senses eventually. I am sure of it. He can't stay mad forever, even more so when he's mad at you." Adrian said as he hugged me on the couch trying to comfort me.
"I don't know Adrian. I've never seen him that mad before."
"He will come around eventually, and when he does he will feel like the biggest jack-ass in the world and will spend years trying to make up for it, trust me."
"What was he even doing here?" I asked as I cried some more.
"I don't know little dhampir. Maybe he was trying to find you? He did say he was starting to believe you, maybe he wanted to tell you or something."
It was silent for a few minutes. Finally, I was able to calm down enough to stand up and make my way to the guess room Adrian had.
"I'm going to crash here for the night ok?"
"Of course, Rose, go get comfortable. You're welcome here as long as you like."
I nodded and headed for the guess room again and laid down in the bed. I felt num again like after the first time he left. Only this time was worse because this time I knew he didn't want anything to do with me now. There was nothing I could blame him leaving this time except for myself. As I laid there I started crying again knowing this time Dimitri was gone for good, till I fell asleep.
The next day I texted Lissa told her to tell Christian that Tasha and Dimitri are leaving today. She was surprised that they had cut their visit short and decided to do the movie night next weekend, which I was grateful for.
I laid in Adrian's guest bed for a few more hours till I heard someone knocking on the door.
"Hey little dhampir, Lissa is here looking for you so we can walk to the gate and say are farewells to Tasha and Dimitri. Do you want to go or stay here?"
"No, I will go. I need to seem somewhat normal. They don't know what is going on still. It would be weird if I didn't go." I said sadly.
"You don't have to, you can stay here if you want and sleep some more."
"Thanks Adrian but no, I'll be ready in five minutes."
"Alright I will let Lissa know."
"Thanks." I said as I stood up.
I grabbed an extra set of clothes from the dresser and walked over to the bathroom across the hall. I brushed my teeth and hair with the extra stuff Adrian had bought for me to have at his place because of how often I had been staying there. I realised in that moment how sweet Adrian really was. He had basically bought a whole new wardrobe for me all of clothes to wear now and when I start to show. I told him it was to much, but he wouldn't hear of it. Not long after that he got the other stuff for me when I started to stay more and more.
After changing I went out to meet up with everyone. They were all sitting in the living room talking about whatever until I walked in. then I had four sets of eyes on me.
"Rose, when did you get those clothes? I don't remember getting them for you."
"No you didn't Adrian did for me a few days ago. He went over board though and bought me a whole closet worth of clothes though." I said with a smile.
Lissa smiled knowingly. "Well, that was nice of him to do. Are you ready to go, they are leaving in about an hour."
"Ya let's go, don't want to miss them." I said with fake enthusiasm.
Lissa, Christian, and Eddie all got up and headed to the door as Adrian walked over to me and held his arm out for me to take. I smiled gratefully and put my arm through his and started to walk behind everyone else.
As the gate with the SUV sitting in front of it came into view I started to lose my nerve I had to start coming here with. When we got to the car Tasha and Dimitri both ignored me and Adrian till right before they were about to leave.
"Well Rose it was nice to see you again, and congrats on graduating again. You were awesome in your trails, you are going to be an amazing guardian for Lissa." Tasha said as she came to hug me.
"I'm glad you listened to me and did as told for once. It's for the best this way. Just think by the time you see me again you wont be the only one with a pregnancy announcement." She whispered mockingly to me as she hugged me. Though she wasn't quiet enough because Adrian heard her.
"Tasha if you have anything to say to my girlfriend I would apperiacte you saying it loud enough for everyone to hear. We wouldn't want people to get the wrong impression of you now would we?" he said calmly as he put his arm around me and pulled me to him.
"Boyfriend?" Lissa and Dimitri said at the same time.
"Yes, Rose finally agreed to go out with me." Adrian said happily. "As Rose put it there is no reason we shouldn't be."
"Adrian what are you doing!" I whisper yelled at him.
"Watch and follow my lead." He whispered back.
"Oh wow I didn't know you to had gotten that close." Tasha had said with fake surprise.
"Ya it was just last night that we made it official because of a silly… misunderstanding we had." Adrian said putting emphasis on misunderstanding.
"What would that be?" asked Dimitri coldly.
"you were there for it Belikov, did you forget already. You were the one so confused from it, I still don't think you got the full explanation of what actually happened. You got so frustrated that you stormed out of my apartment. It was quiet funny really."
"I appreciate the concern, but I assure you I have a full explanation of what happened." Dimitri said tightly.
"Actually, Guardian Belikov you left before I could really explain the reason for what you heard." I said getting what Adrian was trying to do. "I'd be happy to explain better over the phone if you want."
"I'm sure we won't have time for that. We are heading back to Russia from here. We didn't get that much of a visit with Dimitri's family last time, and this time we are going to look for houses to buy while we are there." Tasha said.
"Wait what you're moving to Russia aunt Tasha." Christian said surprised.
"Yes we weren't sure until last night. It was Dimitri's idea after he came back in last night." She said happily.
"Oh that's exciting." I said tightly.
"Well anyway we must go. Bye everyone we will see you in a few months for your graduation." Tasha said as she got in the car.
A chorus of byes were heard from everyone as Dimitri got in. As they drove off everyone, but Adrian left. I stood there hoping Dimitri would stop driving and come back and give me a kiss as he wrapped me in his arms, but he didn't. I stood there for a minute in silence as a couple tears rolled down my face.
"Come on Rose, Let's go back to my place." Adrian said as he steered me away form the gate.
"Ya that sounds good."
"Now we have a little bit of a problem." Adrian said once we made it back. "since they now know we are together it is going to make it harder for you to tell Lissa and them you are pregnant. So, what is our plan."
"Our plan this should be your plan you are the one that said we were dating." I said with a little anger in my voice.
"Yes that part is my fault, but it was the only way I could think to try and get him to understand without flat out saying." He said handing me a glass of water.
"Ya I guess. I think I should wait till after everyone graduates. I don't want to put this on them."
"Alright then if that's what you want. You do know you'll be showing by then right?"
"Huh?"
"You'll be four months along by then. Your body type wont let you hide it longer then that if your lucky."
"Ya I guess your right, wow."
"Everything will be alright little dhampir. You'll see you won't have to this alone. I will be here for you the whole time and eventually Dimitri will be to, though I'm not sure when."
"I know Adrian thank you."
"Anytime little dhampir, anytime." He said as he gives me a hug.
