Chapter 6:
Side note, that might be helpful. I made Cassidy and Caroline much older, and Miranda much younger, than they are in the movie.
Jackson had woken up four times that night, and Emily was having a hard time to get him to calm down. After a while she eventually got him to sleep. Emily went back to Skylar's room, she was sleeping there in case Skylar had an episode or anything. Luckily though Skylar was fine.
Emily hit her head against the headboard on the bed as she layed back down. "Shit" Emily said under her breath. Skylar turned to Emily, still asleep. Emily looked at the time, it was 3 a.m. Emily got up, she went to the kitchen and sat at the dining table with a glass of water.
Memories of Mike were flooding her head. Mike was really good with Skylar, he loves children in general. He would play Twinkle Twinkle little star for Skylar on the piano. Skylar was very fascinated with it, he also played the guitar for her. He was a very musical guy, music was how he made money. He would get eight thousand just for being on stage to play the piano.
Skylar loved it when he played. He would have her in his lap while he played piano. She would stare at his hands as they went up and down the keys. Every time he finished a song she would clap the best she could.
When Emily was pregnant with Jackson he would sometimes take Skylar for her, Emily walked in the living room one time after she woke up. And Skylar walked over to him, she wrapped her arms around Mike's neck. He softly put his hand on her back in return.
Emily felt herself start to smile. At the memories of Mike and Skylar.
9:00 am
Skylar stood next to the piano,
"Skylar, are you okay?" Emily asked, concerned. Skylar turned around, to see Emily standing in the doorway holding Jackson in one arm.
"Yeah" Skylar replied
Miranda walked out of the bathroom, she sat down on the soft couch, and stared at the cute little girl propping up her little baby brother, on the wall next to the piano. She lifted the cover off of the keys, and started playing twinkle twinkle little star, with her index finger.
Miranda raised her eyebrows, Emily looked up from the counter, and looked at the piano. And her jaw dropped, when she saw it was Skylar playing it exactly how Mike did. Emily stood in the entrance to the kitchen from the living room, and stared at her daughter in shock.
When Skylar finished, Jackson cooed at his sister. Serena looked at Emily, and noticed her shocked expression.
"What?" Serena mouthed
"She doesn't play piano" Emily replied
"She doesn't?" Serena asked
"No" Emily mouthed again
"How did you learn how to play that Skylar?" Serena asked
"I don't know, I just remember someone played that for me." Skylar replied, Emily raised her eyebrows in surprise.
"Do you play piano?" Serena asked, Emily
"No" Emily replied
Miranda looked out the window, it was still snowing, it snowed all night, Reaching two feet. Miranda sighed, she always had a few outfits with her at all times, but she honestly wanted to go home.
It was embarrassing to have to stay at her employee's apartment. But she did find Emily's kids kinda funny and amusing. And the red headed little girl was extremely cute, she couldn't get over it. She reminded Miranda of her own grandson, her daughter Caroline had gotten pregnant at 16, two years ago.
Caroline named him Leo, he had blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. He looked more like his father than Caroline.
A big black lab jumped up on the couch and laid in Miranda's lap. She started to pet the dog's head.
"Smokey! Off!" Emily yelled, in a panic to get him off Miranda's lap. he lazily lifted his head to look at Emily, he gave her a bored look.
"He's fine," Miranda said, as she pet the dog's head. He laid his head back down.
Skylar got up off the couch, and walked in the kitchen. She went in the cabinet to get her diabetes stuff.
"Oh, yeah" Emily said,
Skylar sat on a chair in the kitchen, as Emily took out the blood test, she pricked Skylar's finger and Skylar winced. Miranda looked over to Emily, and raised her eyebrow. Serena walked into the kitchen and stared at them.
"You're ok" Emily said, as she rubbed Skylar's other arm. Emily noticed that both of them were staring at her. "What?" Emily asked Serena and Miranda.
"What are you doing?" Serena asked
"She has diabetes" Emily replied, they both raised their eyebrows in surprise.
Serena looked out the window, "holy shit!" Serena yelled.
"What?" Miranda and Emily asked at the same time. Miranda annoyed, and Emily genuinely confused.
"The snow is nowhere close to stopping and the snow is about half as tall as your door." Serena replied.
That night
They had just had dinner, and as much as Miranda didn't want to admit it, the steak was actually better than where she usually gets hers. Emily put her son to bed, and got a bottle of red wine from the liquor cabinet.
"Does anybody want a glass of wine?" Emily asked
"Yes" Miranda and Serena said at the same time in desperation.
Emily poured the three glasses, and sat down at the table. Serena took a sip of it, she coughed and her eyes widened.
They drank three bottles by the end of the night. Emily put Skylar to bed after the first bottle, so she wasn't in front of a bunch of drunks.
They were very wasted after the third bottle. And started to laugh at their most painful memories, and experiences. Things that usually made them cry.
The next morning
Emily woke up with a headache, She turned to hold her daughter close to her. But she wasn't there,
"Skylar!" Emily exclaimed "Skylar" Emily called, again. Emily checked the entire room and she was still not there. She walked into the living room, "Sky-, there you are, you scared me." Emily sat next to her on the couch. Serena was passed out on the floor, and Miranda was sitting at the table.
"Sorry, Mummy" Skylar apologized
"don't be sorry, whybdidn't you wake me up?" Emily asked
"I did a while ago, but you never came out until now."
"I'm so sorry," Emily hugged her daughter,
Jackson started crawling out into the living room from his room. And started climbing on Serena, Emily picked him up, and cut his adventure short.
"Serena doesn't want you climbing on her."Emily whispered, Emily's kids reminded Miranda of her grandson.
1week later
The snow finally cleared up enough for Miranda and Serena to go home. And luckily it was just in time for Christmas.
