It had been two hours since Ana and Tony ate, he said he would go to his workshop and then call her, she still does not know anything about the project or why she used the basic medical means that she knew.
Ana sits down to watch TV, she had finished her favorite program and was watching what else to watch, but there was a program that caught her attention, it was a program called Mad Money, whose protagonist was a bald man in a white shirt, a black tie and he had a nasty smile on a subject that she didn't like at all.
"Stark Industries! I've got one recommendation! Ready? Ready?" He asked with an unreal amount of enthusiasm and a lot of anger in his voice as a red circle suddenly enlarged over the screen and two cartoon bears roared at the screen from the left and right. "Sell, sell, sell! Abandon ship! Does the Hindenburg ring any bells?" He questioned, several irritating sound effects playing in the background. "Let me show you the new Stark Industries business plan! Look, that's a weapons company that doesn't make weapons!"
"Moron." she said furiously before changing the channel.
"Ana" Tony's voice came over the intercom. "Ana. How big are your hands?
"What?" Ana asked, a bit off-put by the question.
"How big are your hands?" Tony repeated the question.
"I don't understand why..."
"Get down here."
Ana walked down the stairs to the workshop, where Tony was lying in a slightly reclined chair, similar to what he would be in a dentist's office.
"Hey." Tony greeted as he held another arc reactor, the old one still in his chest. "Let's see them. Show me your hands. Let's see them." He instructed, Ana holding up and wiggled her fingers a bit. "Oh, wow. They are small. Very petite, indeed. I just need your help for a sec." He told her as she walked closer.
Ana approaches confused, but is horrified to see a small, shiny object embedded in her father's chest and another in his hand.
"Yes, you remember what I told you, what a friend did to save me and what I did to improve it."
Ana nods as she approaches and takes a better look at something shiny on her father's chest or rather embedded in his chest.
"Oh, my God, is that the thing that's keeping you alive?" She asked, shocked.
"It was. It is now an antique." He said, before holding the newer, brighter looking one in his hand. "This is what will be keeping me alive for the foreseeable future. I'm swapping it up for an upgraded unit, and I just ran into a little speed bump." He told her.
"Speed bump, what does that mean?" She asked worriedly.
"It's nothing. It's just a little snag. There's an exposed wire under this device. And it's contacting the socket wall and causing a little bit of a short. It's fine." He explained to her. With a wince and grunt of pain, he removed the old Arc reactor in his chest, handing it to Ana.
She nervously reached out and took it from his hand.
"What do you want me to do?" She asked.
"Put that on the table over there. That is irrelevant." Tony said, pulling something.
"Ok" She said as she moved the old device to the table. "Dad, you should have told me about this so that I would have washed my hands and used special gloves, I could infect you with something." She said worried.
"Sorry, I forgot that little detail." He said
Ana raises an eyebrow but takes a deep breath, it was not the time to argue.
"What do i have to do?"
"I just want you to reach in, and you're gonna gently lift the wire out." Tony exhaled deeply.
"Wait, is this safe?" She asked nervously.
Ana barely realized that she was in the middle of an operation, her first operation and she was barely realizing it and she was not prepared for it, much less if it is the life of her father.
"Yeah, it should be fine. It's like Operation. You just don't let it touch the socket wall or it goes 'beep.'" He told her.
"Ok dad, do you have surgical gloves?" looking at the next table.
"Yes, I think in the drawer, I have them in case of emergency." pointing out.
"Do you know about medicine?" She asked in surprise as she opens the drawer and finds a box. " I found them." grabbing a pair.
"No, I bought them for this, I knew you wanted to use it." He answered calmly.
"Thanks." she said thanks as she put it on.
"Just gently lift the wire. Okay? Great." Tony guided her through it.
Ana takes a deep breath and prepares to put her hand where that arc reactor used to be, she was afraid, she had seen many surgeries on TV and on the Internet, she had even read that, but it was one thing to see it and another to do it, and more knowing that a mistake and it could hurt her father. She has not even entered college and is about to operate.
"I can't." Ana takes her hand away and looks at her father. "I don't think I'm ready for this, we have to get you to a doctor." she said scared.
"No, you're fine. You're the most capable, qualified, trustworthy person I've ever met. You're gonna do great." Tony assured her, but she still hesitated. "Someday you're going to do this, and you have to be prepared for everything Ana." He take her hand. "I know you're not in college yet, but you're the only one besides Miss Potts that I can trust." He smiled at her. "Besides, if I ask Miss Potts this, I'm sure she'll have a heart attack." Ana laughs a little since she does not doubt it. "Ana, I trust you, you can do it."
Ana looks him in the eye, her father trusted her, she couldn't disappoint him, but it's true, one day she is going to perform an operation, of course she hoped it would be after graduation.
"Ok dad." She exhales and reaches her hand forward again. Instead of pulling out, it goes further in, almost up to her wrist. He leans his head back and avoids eye contact with her, shifting slightly in the chair. She shrieks when there's a squelching noise, making a face of disgust, "Oh, there's pus!"
"It's not pus. It's an inorganic plasmic discharge from the device, not from my body." Tony explained calmly.
"It smells!"
"Yeah it does. The copper wire. The copper wire, you got it?"
"Okay, I got it! I got it!"
Ana was making an effort, she knew that later she would see much worse things.
"Okay, you got it?" He asked. "Now, don't let it touch-" Tony started, before letting out a small shout in pain as he convulsed, a loud buzzing sound accompanying this. "Don't let it touch the sides when you're coming out!" He said far more urgently as she let it touch the sides.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" She cries out, doing her best not panic upon seeing Tony's face twisted in discomfort.
"That's what I was trying to tell you before." He says as the monitors start beeping for a brief moment, before slowly calming down, "Okay, now make sure that when you pull it out, you don't-" Ana pulls before he can finish, and a circular object attached to the copper wire comes out with it, dripping with the plasmic discharge, "There's a magnet a-at the end of it! That was it. You just pulled it out." The heart monitor starts beeping like crazy, and the blonde is having a very difficult time keeping it together.
"Oh, god!" Ana holds it over the chest cavity, having no idea what to do with it.
"Okay, I was not expecting... Don't put it back in! Don't put it back in!"
"Dad, you are having a cardiac arrest!" Ana said scared as she put the magnet on the table. "We must hurry, give me that, give it to me!"
Tony hands her the new arc reactor, the heart monitors beeping faster and faster.
"You gotta switch it out really quick." Tony said.
"Okay, okay." She takes it
Ana got to work installing the new arc reactor, she grabs the end of the wire, reaching inside his chest again as he instructs her, his breathing becoming noticeably more labored and uneven.
"Okay, you're going to attach that to the base plate. Make s-sure you- YEOW!" He shouts when she finally gets the wires attached, reaching for the reactor she's trying to secure in his chest. "Was that so hard? That was fun, right? Here, I got it. I got it. Here." He twists the reactor in place, "Nice."
"Are you okay dad?" she asked worried.
"Yeah, I feel great. You okay?" He grins at her, letting out an honest laugh at her expression.
"Dad, while I'm not in college, don't ever, ever, ever, ever ask me to do anything like that ever again..." She said sternly, but she couldn't help but smile and laugh at Tony's smile and laugh.
"I don't have anyone but you." He told her. "Anyway..." He said as he pulled the wires from his chest, taking the towel off his lap and getting up. "What do you recommend Dr. Stark?"
"After this, you need to rest." she said as she took off her gloves and threw it away. "Besides that you have to eat healthy, while I recommend finding a way to forget about that horrible smell." she grabs the first arc reactor, which was still glowing. "Hey, what do you want me to do with this?"
"That? Destroy it. Incinerate it." He said.
"You don't want to keep it?" She asked, confused.
"Ana, I've been called many things. 'Nostalgic' is not one of them." He told her.
She seems to consider this for a moment before she responds.
"Will that be all, dad?"
"That will be all." He turns away, pointing towards one of his bots as Ana makes to leave the lab, "Hey, butterfingers, come here. What's all this stuff doing on top of my desk? That's my phone, that's a picture of me and my Dad." The bot turns towards the desk to get to work as he continues, "Right there. In the garbage, all that stuff."
He turns to look at Ana as she's leaving, reaching his hand to his chest and drumming his fingers over the arc reactor, making a gentle tapping sound.
Ana was surfing the internet looking for ideas for her speech, she was still desperate, she had ideas but she still didn't know how to put them together.
"Trick to know how many children I am going to have?" Ana reads surprised. "What better than a trick to know who I'm going to marry." she said she had fun. "Even though I know who I'll marry." she sees the image of Doctor Strange in a photo frame. "Ana Strange, I like it." she smiling
"What do you like?" Tony asked, standing in the doorway.
"Dad?!" Ana gets up and manages to hide the photo of her. "I would like to know how many children I am going to have." she replied nervously.
"How many children?" Tony raises an eyebrow and leans in closer. "Tell me, is this face ready to be called grandpa?" I ask and Ana looks at him amused. "Do not answer me, the answer is not and never will be."
Ana laughs a little, she knew that for him the word grandfather is that he was old and did not like that idea at all.
"Please dad, I'm not saying I want to have them now, but one day. I want to find someone who loves me for who I am and not for being a Stark or for the money, getting married and having my own family."
"And that will happen, when I die, plus three days, to confirm that I really have died." He said with a little harshness and Ana laughs. "I want to ask you something."
"What do you want to ask me."
"Would you like to start a project with me? "
"What?" Ana raises her eyebrow in confusion. "What kind of project?"
"Do you remember I told you how to escape from that damn cave?" Tony asked, sitting up on the bed.
"How to forget it". Ana sits in her chair. "You said that you and your friend created armor."
"That is correct and I want to recreate it."
"Recreate it?" she asked surprised
"Exactly" he said with a big smile.
"You really want to rebuild that, Dad, you must forget everything you lived in that horrible place." Ana said worried
"Ana, I want to rebuild it, make a better one and I really want you to help me with this." he said, taking her hands.
Ana looks at him surprised, she did not remember having built something with her father in her life, he and Zaira always built things. But seeing her father's eyes and the opportunity to spend time together couldn't turn him away.
"Alright. Let's do this." Ana said with a smile.
