Chapter 6
The comedian case was pretty open and shut as soon as we spoke to the guy from the comic club, but it was nice to be back in the field. Lucifer and Chloe make a good team and I was glad that they had each other's back.
To start with, I was jealous of the two's relationship. They were partners, but I reminded myself that Lucifer was literally my soulmate. We were literally made for each other.
I was less keen when Lucifer literally had people queuing both in and out of the club that needed favours as I was worried he'd get in with the wrong people. Don't get me wrong, he's the literal Devil, I know he can take care of himself but that doesn't erase my concern.
A week later and Chloe and I went out to Lux, I couldn't help but get jealous seeing all the beautiful girls throwing themselves at Lucifer. It didn't help that I couldn't do anything about it, but I was reassured when Lucifer seemed to rebuff all their advances. All I wanted to do was go up to him and kiss him senseless.
I was starting to think that this whole not telling people thing was a bad idea. We were wasting time that could be spent getting to know each other. I planned to talk to him tonight about next steps for us. I was falling quickly and falling hard. I wanted more than a secret relationship that doesn't even have a name, and that was what I was going to get.
"Lucifer!" I called out. I'd seen him come up to the penthouse so I'd left Chloe with Maze and Linda who I'd met a few days ago.
"Jess?" Lucifer said coming out of his bedroom shirtless. "What are you doing here? I thought you were with the Detective?"
"I was - I am - I mean. I want you to join us. I want to tell them Lucifer." I rambled.
"Are you sure? We haven't even worked out what this is yet." Jessica took a step closer to Lucifer.
"I want to. I want to work out what this is. You. You mean a lot to me Lucifer." He closed the gap between us putting his hand on the side of my face, leaning in to his hand, I closed my eyes.
"You mean a lot to me too, Jess. One of the reasons I haven't wanted to put a label on it is because the word doesn't exist for what we are, what I want us to be, but I guess this will do. Jessica Decker, will you be my girlfriend?" Lucifer had never looked so nervous in his very long life, but Jessica had a smile on her face. Pulling him towards her, she kissed him passionately. She tangled her fingers in his hair, misplacing the product he puts in it every day, she preferred the slight curls anyway.
"I'll take that as a yes, shall I?" Lucifer grinned cockily as they separated.
"Yes you idiot, now let's go tell our families." Jessica said, an equally large grin on her face.
"Have you met my brother Amenadiel yet?" At Jessica's shake of her head he grinned even wider. "Oh that will be fun. What are you doing tomorrow?"
"So you're telling me that you have been seeing my partner behind my back?" Chloe said, looking betrayed.
"And you didn't think to tell me Lucifer? I've only been by your side for the last millenia!" Maze shouted, angrily.
"Listen ladies. I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation." Linda said trying to be the voice of reason.
"Look, we weren't keeping it a secret from you for any particular reason, we were simply trying to work out what exactly we were! You have no right to be angry at me Chloe, you may be my cousin but who was it that didn't tell me about Trixie until you were 6 months pregnant, hm. Who was it that invited me to yours and Dan's wedding a week before it happened? You do not get to lecture me Chloe Jane Decker." Jessica got steadily less calm as the conversation went on. With tears in her eyes, she approached her cousin.
"I know we were in a bad place then but you don't get to have a go when I finally find someone that I actually care about. I know he is your partner but it's not like there was ever anything romantic going on between you. It's not like you had feelings for him… Oh my God. You do, don't you. You have feelings for Lucifer." Jessica concluded. Taking a step away from her cousin she let the tears she had been holding back fall. Lucifer tried to go to her, to comfort her but she shook him off too.
"I think. I think I'm going to go upstairs. I'll see you later Lucifer. I need some time to cool off but I can't drive. I'm going to stay here tonight if that's okay with Lucifer. I need some space to think. Thank you for being calm Linda, I see why Lucifer finds your opinions so valuable."
"Of course darling." Lucifer reassures, placing a hand on her shoulder before she disappears upstairs towards the penthouse.
When Jessica is out of sight, Lucifer turns towards his partner.
"Don't you remember Chloe, I was interested in you, but everything has changed now. I don't have eyes for anyone but my soulmate. She means more to me than you could ever imagine. Mazikeen," He turns to the fuming Demon. "You're right, you have been there for me through thick and thin, but this has literally been a thing for just over a week, the mark only came up two weeks ago. You've been off catching bounties for the last week and a half, what did you expect me to do?"
"Pick up the phone you bastard." Maze said, clearly still angry.
"We'll talk about this tomorrow Lucifer, girls, with me. We're going home." Linda takes control, pushing the remorseful Chloe and the livid Demon out of the club with a new found strength. Lucifer sighs, running a hand through his still slightly curly hair, and makes his way to the penthouse, dreading what state his new girlfriend may be in.
