Chapter 6: Complicated

Nessie's POV

My jaw dropped at the sight in front of me. "You guys have your own personal jet?"

"We do. It comes in handy sometimes," Grandpa answered.

"I'll say," I said as I stepped onto the plane.

I could get used to such luxuries like a personal jet. If I wasn't so worried about my mom and my sister I would truly enjoy the experience.

I couldn't wait to get back to them. I felt a sense of relief when we were finally in the air. In just a matter of hours my mom and sister would be saved.

"Can we talk?"

My head whipped around. My hand flew to my heart. I hadn't even heard Edward walk up behind me.

"I didn't mean to scare you. I just want to talk. If you'll let me,"

Talk. Like how we talked last night? Did he not remember how we just started yelling at one another so quickly?

"and that's why I wanted to talk to you Nessie,"

"Come again?"

"I wanted to apologize for last night. I'm very sorry for the way that I spoke to you last night. That was wrong of me. I'm sorry,"

I looked at him for any trace of dishonesty. I found none. He truly looked as if he was telling the truth.

"I am telling the truth. Given my track record lately I would'nt blame you not believing me though,"

"I do believe you," I realized that I really did mean it.

"Can we start over?"

"I don't see how we can do that," I turned away from him.

"This is more complicated then I thought," he muttered.

"What is?"

"Talking to you,"

"Oh,"

"Look I know we didn't get off to the best start but I really want to get to know you and your brother-"

"I don't want or need another father,"

"I understand that Nessie. I'm not going to try to act like your father. I don't deserve to be your father. I realize that now. It was stupid of me to even think that I could start acting like your father after everything. I just want to get to know you,"

I sighed and said nothing.

"If you don't want anything to do with me though I'll understand that and I will respect your choice,"

"What about EJ? He might decide something completely different then me,"

"I'm going to talk to him to and I will respect whatever he decides also. I'm going to take both of your feelings into account before making any decisons,"

I rolled my eyes. "You mean like you took my mother's feelings into account before deciding to lie to her and everyone else for that matter?"

I could see the effect that my words were having on him. I almost regretted saying the words out loud.

"No Nessie. You're right. I made a decision for your mother and for the rest of my family without consulting anyone. That was just one of the many mistakes that I made. I see that now. I'm not going to make that mistake again. I'm not going to make decisions for other people anymore,"

I looked away from him. I was unsure of what to think anymore. "I'm not sure I can forgive you," I admitted.

"I know. It would be foolish of me to ask for forgiveness from you, your brother, and especially your mom,"

I closed my eyes. He'd caused a lot of pain. While I couldn't forgive him for what he'd done there was a part of me that did want to at least know him. If he was willing to be civil with me then I should be with him.

"Can we just...be friends?"

He smiled. "That's more than I could ask for,"

Friends. I could live with that. I looked around and was surprised to see the rest of the family watching us.

"They've been eavesdropping on our conversation," he chuckled.

"Well that's not exactly hard to do when you have super hearing,"

My stomach growled. "I'll get you some food. Or do you prefer blood?"

"Food is good. To be honest I've never tasted blood before,"

"You haven't?" he was shocked. "So what do you do to satisy your thirst?"

"What thirst?"

"Be honest. How dry is your throat right now?"

"Extremly dry. But it's been that way for as long as I can remember. EJ's too. Nothing abnormal for us," I shrugged.

"That's thirst Nessie. Your body needs blood. As soon as I can I'm taking you and your brother hunting. You'll feel the difference. Trust me,"

"Uh," I was scared. I didn't know how to hunt.

"Don't worry Nessie I will teach you,"

The rest of the flight seemed to pass by quickly. As soon as we landed in Seattle Carlisle and Esme headed straight to the hospital while the rest of us went to a house the Cullens had there.

"Uh oh. It looks like the kids are on TV," I heard Alice say in the living room.

"What?"

"Your faces are plastered all over the news. You've been missing for two days,"

"Yeah we knew that. We ran away after all,"

"In order to avoid further complications you two will have to return to the social worker," Edward stated.

"What?"

"No!"

"Just for now. You won't stay there for long,"

Before we could argue further I heard screaming from the front of the house. I ran out as fast as I could. It was Carlisle, Esme, and my mom. I could see the bite mark on her neck. She was transforming. But where was Grace?

"Everything went well. We found Bella and got her out of there in time," Carlisle explained.

"Where's my sister? Where is Grace?"

"She's still at the hospital. She's still alive. We checked on her,"

"Why isn't she here? She's dying to! She should be transforming into a vampire to,"

Carlisle rubbed his forehead. "Nessie we need to talk,"

"about what?"

"Your sister. She's too young to become a vampire,"

"I know she's young but at least she'll still be alive, sorta, but still. We can't just let her die!"

"The problem is that our kind have certain laws that must be followed. Turning children into vampires is against the law. If broken the punishment would be her death as well as all of ours. There's nothing we can do to save Grace,"
