Chapter Five

The next day...

FBI Headquarters

Don came into the war room, thinking about what the case could mean and wondered what the possible connections the three people had. While he waited for Colby and his team to come in, he thought about the conversations he had with his family the night before.

Dinner was a pleasant affair after Charlie and Millie cleared up the misunderstanding between the two. They all discussed the case and what the markings could mean and Charlie had a couple theories on what it could be but he admitted they were a bit of a stretch but Don said to still look into it, just in case.

Larry and Megan shared their news with everyone, and they were all happy that things were progressing for them, as Don had written a recommendation letter for them to help with the process, as did the rest of the team and Charlie and Alan.

Charlie talked about, or rather vented, about Marshall Penfield's strange appearance at his office that day, and Don asked if he felt at all threatened by Penfield but Charlie said no, just that he was more irritated by the guy, which everyone knew was to be true. No one on the team ever really liked Pensfield either, ever since they worked a case last year where the guy constantly interfered and nearly got arrested for almost contaminating a crime scene and Don warned the guy to give it up or he would put him on a watch list and Pensfield finally relented and didn't try anything similar since.

'That guy sure is something, what I don't know, but he is as annoying as Charlie said he is, and I thought he was exaggerating when I first heard about him.'

Millie said she will do what she can to keep Pensfield away from Charlie, which he was grateful for, as he didn't want to have the conference of him trying to find ways of avoiding the guy, and she will work to keep him busy.

Don smiled, as he knew Charlie would do the best he can to stay professional but he wouldn't tolerate being endlessly questioned about his work, especially from that guy.

'Glad I don't have a nemesis, I would probably go crazy.' Don thought to himself when he joined Megan and Colby in the room.

"Anything new?" Don asked

"Well, the only connection we can find on the two agents so far was a case four years ago that involved both the ATF and the DEA, but no connection with Mark, so we are following that angle while we look to see what other possible connections that Mark had with them." Colby answered, himself wondering what it could even mean.

"What was the case?" Don asked

"It involved a big corporation whose CEO was directly involved with a big time drug kingpin as they were smuggling drugs and weapons all around North America and causing problems for every country involved." Colby said.

"I remember that case, isn't the CEO still in prison for causing the deaths of a couple diplomats?" Don asked

"Not anymore, he was killed in a prison fight several months ago by a fellow inmate whose sister was killed as a result of the weapons smuggling." Colby told him.

"What about the Kingpin?" Don asked, trying to remember the guys' name.

"Roger Salazar, that's the guy's name." Colby said, "No luck there either, the guy croaked after suffering a massive heart attack two weeks ago."

"That is either a massive coincidence or really odd timing." Don commented.

"I know, I asked for the autopsies of the two men so I can see if there is anything more to it or if it is that, a coincidence." Colby said, though he doubted that could be it.

"Well, we know what Charlie would say about that." Don said with a smile.

"Yeah, that there are rarely, if ever, coincidences." Colby said as he and Don continued to look through the agent's cases, hoping to find something that connected them to Mark.
