"Chica where is Roxy?"
"Oh she's with the neighbor. Once we get in I'll head and get her."
As Luke and Penelope got down Matt was pulling up net to them. After Matt helped them into the house Penelope went next door to get Roxy. She made sure to have her leash on so she wouldn't completely bolt to Luke. As she walked thru the front door Penelope felt the tug from Roxy.
"Hold up girl, I know you want to see him."
Roxy had stopped and Penelope quickly shut the door because she could tell Roxy was excited. They both walked over to the couch where Luke sat. Roxy put her head on his knees as Penelope took off the leash. Luke petted her head.
"Well Rox I'll be spending the next two weeks with my two best girls."
"Is there anything you need help with?" Matt asked
"Right now, I don't think so" Penelope said.
"Okay" Matt said. Then smiled at both of them which didn't go unnoticed by Luke who asked
"What?"
"You two are married, congratulations!"
"Thanks" Luke said as Penelope sat right next to him on the couch.
"Brother, I knew you had a thing for Penelope. I'd catch both of you staring at each other but one of the most telling things was when she baked you those coconut cookies" Matt said.
"Mmm… those sound good right now."
"Well handsome since you're recuperating, I'll bake some for you."
"Mi amor, please say it'll be like the times we've baked together."
Penelope blushed a bit and said "maybe"
"Okay you two cool down" Matt said
"What do expect we're newlyweds." Luke said
"I know, just try to remember since you can't keep your hands off each other to use protection if not my kids will be getting a baby cousin." Matt said
Luke and Penelope just laughed.
"Well Matt thanks for coming and helping but I'm getting tired." Luke said
"I wanted to hear more about the wedding, but I'll leave it for another time."
"Thanks"
"Rest up, both of you" Matt said.
Then he hugged Penelope, gave Luke a fist bum and left.
"You know chica, he's not the only one who will be asking about the wedding and us."
"Yes I know, it's probably best to get together to tell them about it."
"Except about the baby, we may not have to say anything till you start to show."
"True or until we decide."
"Maybe we could have them all over when I'm all healed up."
"That's a good idea, we an do an appetizer spread. Veggies with dip, cheese and fruit then a meat and crackers tray. Or something entirely."
"It's making me hungry."
"Let's order in, it was a busy day and I'm exhausted."
"Okay how about pizza and wings?" Asked Luke
"I'm good with that."
Penelope then called their favorite pizzeria, they ordered 1 veggie pizza, 1 meat lovers pizza and medium heat wings. After 45 minutes the order arrived at their home. Sitting on the sofa with all the food laid out on the coffee table. Penelope had gone to grab plates, napkins, and bottles of water.
"Mmm… everything looks good" Penelope said
"Have at it, we need to keep you and the baby happy."
"A slice of both and few wings with ranch" Luke said
Penelope made up his plate and handed it to him. Then grabbed her plate with the exact same thing. After a short time Luke had finished up. Penelope was working on her 4th slice of the meat lovers. There was plenty of the veggie one left.
"Is the baby craving meat lovers?"
"I think so because normally I don't eat this much but it's so good" Penelope said
By the end of their meal the meat lovers and wings were completely gone. They did have some leftovers of the veggie pizza. They went to bed at 10:30 pm. The following morning Penelope woke up to Luke's arms wrapped around her. Five minutes later she felt nauseous and made a beeline to their bathroom. The sound of her emptying her stomach woke Luke up. Who then got up to help her, he filled her a cup of water and held her hair back.
"Ugh, I remember JJ saying morning sickness last about the first three months. I'm at two and it's just starting."
"Maybe you'll only have it for a month."
"Hopefully, I feel even more tired now."
"If your stomach has settled a little lets get you back to bed then I'll go make some toast and juice. You need to stay hydrated." Luke said
"I'm supposed to be taking care of you."
"Chica, don't argue with me about this. I'm taking care of my family and don't dare feel bad about it."
"Okay, I got to brush my teeth."
Penelope then got up, Luke kissed her on the forehead before leaving the bathroom. Ten minutes later Luke comes back to the bedroom carrying a tray with slice of toast and two glasses of juice. Penelope sitting up against the headboard looking thru her laptop. He placed the tray down on the bed, sat down on it and got comfortable.
"What are you looking at?"
"Some info the team wanted me to check for them. Now I'll set this aside and give you my attention."
"Feeling a bit better?"
"Yes, how about you?"
"Still sore but taking things slow. Here you go." Luke said as he handed her a glass
"Thanks."
"Well, what should we do?"
"You rest, I have some work to do. Then I'll make us some lunch."
"Maybe while you do that I'll stream a movie or start binge watching some of the shows I wanted to see but haven't gotten a since work always happens."
"That's a great plan. What would you like for lunch?"
"A sandwich and soup sound good."
"You got it mi amor." Penelope said
An hour and a half later she got up to make lunch. She whipped up turkey and ham sandwiches with chicken noodle soup. Then carried the food and drinks to the bedroom.
"Lunch is served."
"It looks good" Luke said as Penelope placed the tray on the bed.
As they ate the team began to check up on them via text. After they finished lunch Penelope's phone began to ring. Picking it up form her night stand she saw who was video calling.
"Newbie, it's your grandmother."
"Ugh… this may not be good." Luke said
"Then Penelope accepted the call
"Hi Flor!"
"Penelope, how are you and Luke doing?"
"Well…" Penelope said as Luke scooted over to be in the frame.
"I don't like the pause, what's going on?" Flor asked
"Well abuela, I got hurt on the job and was taken to the hospital. Now I'm at home and the doctor says I should make a full recovery."
"What happened?"
"Now you know our job can be dangerous. I got shot but don't worry abuela our team watches each other's backs. We were caught a little off guard."
"Ay Luke, no matter what your grandfather and I will always worry about you. I know I can't stop you but you have to do your best to stay safe. You have Penelope now."
"Plus so much more now" Luke said happily
Flor looked at both of them questionably
"Chica, do you want to do the honors?"
"You're going to be a great grandmother; we're going to have a baby!"
"Yes, yes, yes! Ricardo come quick"
Ricardo rushes into the living room.
"What happened?!" Ricardo said as he sat down next to Flor
"Hi pops"
"Hi Ricardo"
"Hi kids… now what happened Flor?"
"We'll get to spoil a new baby!"
"You guys are having a baby?"
"Yes pops" Luke said
"Congratulations!"
"Thanks"
"When are you due Penelope?" Flor asked
"Early to mid-January."
"Do you want a boy or girl?" Ricardo asked
"Either one, the most important thing is a healthy baby."
"You're absolutely right chica."
"We're here to help with anything we can. We can even go and stay with you when the baby comes. That way you can adjust to a baby's schedule." Flor said
"That would be nice, aside from that the agency gives paternity and maternity leave" Penelope says.
"So, Luke does that mean you get to stay with Penelope after the baby is born?" Ricardo asks
"Yes, it's 4 to 6 weeks right Penelope?"
"6 weeks. Which I'm glad you'll be able to get to know our little one." Penelope said lovingly
"Okay you two we'll let you go so you can rest and get better." Ricardo said
"Yes and mijo when you go back to work stay aware and be careful" Flor said
"I will abuela. Take care and we'll talk to you again soon. Bye."
"Bye" Penelope said
"Bye" Both Ricardo and Flor said
Penelope hung up the call.
"That wasn't too bad" Luke said
"What helped was them finding out we're having a baby. I feel like our baby will be spoiled."
"By my grandparents."
"Not just them but all the aunts and uncles too."
"Imagine him or her running and playing around with Matt and Kristy's kids."
"What trouble would they get into?!" Penelope said
Luke laughed: "we'll be able to handle it. Plus, there is no one else I'd want to raise a baby with."
"Mmm… we have a while to prepare for the arrival. Till then it will be pregnancy cravings, mood swings, having to give up caffeine and trying to find super cute flats and low wedges. Cause I may love my heels, but I won't be able to do that."
"I'll be right by your side thru all of that and more to help you."
"Thank you" Penelope said then kissed him.
The rest of the day was spent binge watching home remodeling shows for Luke. Then an anime one that has a heroine princess who yields a silver crystal and is in love with a prince who will do anything to protect her. It's Penelope's favorite.
