"I'm here, kids!" exclaimed Bella, entering the room.
"Shhhh" muttered Sam, who, still wearing his huge bandage, was squatting in front of a curtain. "Uncle Emm, I saw you!" he shouted, shaking it."
"Oh, man!"
The brunette laughed as she saw her brother-in-law emerge from behind a curtain, his hiding place not at all complicated. Emmett always put everyone in a good mood, especially the children, something she would never end up thanking him for. The young man lifted her children, one on each arm as if they weighed no more than a feather, then they made their way towards her, still giggling, when suddenly Emm's smile froze at the sight of her friend.
"Emmet Cullen, my brother-in-law. Rosalie Hale, my colleague." He looked nervous, still approaching with the children in his arms.
"What's up, Rosalie? Nice to meet you." He cleared his throat.
"Same to you." The voice of her friend was cold, distant. Generally, she wasn't like that, which surprised her enormously.
"What are you doing here? It's barely noon. Aren't you supposed to be in the office?"
"Since I came early, Mrs Cope left. Edward is still in the office, he told me about the accident and... well, here I am, with my little gangster…" he looked at Sam, "we'll just put a hat on you... and done."
"What is that?" Eli asked, her little brow furrowed.
"It's Sam, look" he pointed to the boy's bandage. "Do you want to see what a gangster looks like on Google?"
"Yes!" Both kids yelled at the same time.
"Emmett…." Bella reprimanded him gently.
"Yes, yes, I'll be very careful with the searches this time." Then he walked away with both children, leaving them alone.
"So you have a brother-in-law…" Rosalie mumbled, without taking her eyes off Emm, her brow furrowed.
"He's cute, isn't he?" she asked sardonically, looking at her friend.
"He looks kind, unlike his ogre of a brother."
"Emmett's very different from Edward, he's sweet and caring, all that..." She lowered her voice a little. "Well, you know, he's just different."
"Were they raised by different mothers?" Bella laughed.
"No, nothing like that"
"Why did you scold Emmett about the Google search?"
"Once, Emm was looking for something and well..." She shook her head, smiling at the memory. "Some pornography came out and the kids were there, he got so nervous he couldn't close the windows, it was chaos. Edward had to turn off the power."
Rosalie burst out laughing, looking sideways at the giant on the computer. Her brother-in-law was looking at them too before pretending not to. His jaw wasn't as strong and his eyes weren't as voracious as his brother's, though not only physically they were different. Isabella sighed, handing Rosalie the invitation, convinced that she wouldn't need the passes, and that way she could go with James. Her friend grumbled some more but accepted it before she left, leaving her alone with her brother-in-law.
"Thanks for coming, Emm," she murmured, entering the room with the boys.
"Don't thank me at all, Bella, they're my favourite nephews."
"Uncle, we're your only nephews!" Eli shouted, amused.
"Oh, really?" He touched the girl's nose, "What a fool! "The children smiled, entertained as they watched more images, Bella was just praying they weren't going to switch to violent scenes or worse. "Hey, Bella…are you going to the dance?
"H-How do you know that?" she asked tensely at Emmett's smile.
"Let's just say I overheard a bit of your conversation with the blonde. I wanted to tell you that you don't have to wait for Edward to go with you, I can go."
"You?" she asked, smiling.
"Yes, and then I can see your friend again. What do you say?" The woman bit her lip.
"Did you like Rose?" Emm smiled, making Bella roll her eyes. "But your brother will be mad, I don't know..."
"Come on, just tell Edward we'll go together. I'm his brother, I don't think he'll refuse."
The door opened at that moment and the next second Edward appeared. The young woman tried to ignore the way he dwarfed the doorway, the whole room as if her house had been designed for smaller people, it always made her nervous. The dark suit and his ice-like eyes only made it worse. Emmett cleared his throat, catching her gaze before giving her a thumbs up as if to encourage her. The young woman pursed her lips, she was a grown, independent woman, she didn't need to be asking for permission, so she set out to face her husband once and for all.
"Do whatever you want, go to that damn dance if you want, but I'm not going with you, I didn't go to my generation's, what makes you think I'll want to go to your school's? You know I hate them." Edward hissed minutes after they started arguing.
"Fine, don't go. Emmett will do it for you," she said, her breath catching in her throat as she saw the look in her husband's eyes, a storm raging through his green eyes, warning her that more trouble was on the way.
"Emmett?"
"Let's go and play in the playground, shall we, children?" She heard him say.
Bella did not turn away from her husband, she even raised her chin to meet his gaze, but there, as she looked into his eyes, she found nothing but her own reflection, her heart clenched in her chest as she realised that what she had with Edward was coming to a dead end.
He was like her own hell.
You know I would love to punch Edward…but I can't. So, what do you think will happen next? Will Bella go to the dance?
