Chapter 6
September 16th 1984
Surrey, England
Harry walked outside for recess with the rest of Mrs. Hatterys Second Grade Class and waited for his friend Daphne who came outside after having had to duck inside real quick to use the restroom.
Together the two of them walked towards a playground bench that they liked to sit and talk at.
He was very happy.
Harry had known Daphne Greengrass for over a year now and it had been the best year of his life so far.
The two of them had became good friends in Mrs Pickett's First Grade Class and where very happy to find that they had both been put in Mrs Hatterys Second Grade Class.
Harry knew that the adults looked at the two of them just walking around instead of running with a bit of Daphne and Harry had something in common that they did not share with all the others.
The two of them where Magical and both Harry and Daphnee would be going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry after they turned eleven.
That was a fact that the two of them where able to bond over.
It allowed them to make it through the tough moments at school.
The other kids could be very harsh.
Harry got very upset when he saw Daphnee getting bullied for her last name and short stature.
What stupid things to pick on someone for anyhow Greengrass wasnt a "Silly"last name and Daphnee could not help it if she was the shortest one in the class.
Thats where Tom proved to be quite useful.
For about three years now Harry had been dreaming about the life of someone named Tom Riddle.
Mostly they where just ordinary dreams of someone growing up in a orphanage but Harry was starting to learn tips and tricks from thost dreams.
After trial and error and going over many of his dreams to where he could make his eyes shine brightly and how to walk and talk more authoritativly.
And Harry did not know it but when he used what he had learned from Tom he added some magic to boost his power.
Thankfully that seemed to work though somehow and he was able to get many of the kids to stop picking on Daphnee.
His friend also semed to love his help so that was nice.
Sitting down Harry saw Daphnee pull out a book about Cooking.
He raised an eyebrow at her.
"What"She said "Mom gave me this and said this would help me later on in Potions".
"Im sure it will"Harry said "You are the most intelligent person i know after all".
"Sorry"Daphne said "I just like to read a lot".
Harry chuckled "No its fine"He said "I like how your smart and can have a good time, never change Daph, never change".
Harry then took to scanning around the playground.
Sadly it looked to be like Vincent was not here today.
He had been trying for months to make friends amongst the kids but that was easier said than done.
Harry made friends with Daphnee easily because of the fact that they where both Magical but it was harder to make friends with a Muggle.
He was making progress with Vincent Cartwright a fellow second grader in Mrs Johnsons class.
Being in different classes was hard but Harry liked the other boys company.
He enjoyed Daphnees company the most though.
SCENE CHANGE
A few days later on the weekend Harry and Daphnee where off exploring by a local creek.
Neither of them had been to each others house yet but the did spend a lot of time exploring various places around Surrey.
Their favorite so far was this creek which the liked to throw pebbles into.
As Harry tossed a pebble that went particularly far he was startled when he heard Daphnee let out a yelp.
"Snake"She gasped as Harry turned and saw a little snake slitering towards Daphnees feet.
It looked to be a young things and must have thought that her toes where food.
"No stop"Harry said not noticing his voice had changed "Please stop little one those toes are not food".
"I am sorry Speaker"The snake replied "I did not know".
Harry was shocked that the snake spoke back to him and he looked at Daphnee who seemed just as shocked as he was.
"And when where going to tell me that you are a Parselmouth"Daphnee asked incrediously.
Harry was confused "A Parsel-What know".
"What you said"She replied pointing to the snake that was now slitthering away "That was Parseltoung".
"What do you mean"Harry asked "I was just speaking English to the snake and it spoke back to me".
Daphne shook her head "No"She replied "That was Parseltoung the ability to speak to snakes and a very rare magical ability".
"Really"Harry asked "Hmm"He thought about that.
"What do you think about Parseltoung"Harry then decided to ask her.
"I think its super cool"Daphnee replied enthusiastically.
She then took a pause "Other people dont like Parseltoung though and view it as a sign of being evil so you should be careful"Daphnee explained.
Harry nodded.
The ability to communicate with snakes huh.
Interesting ability he supposed but Harry couldnt think up much of a purpose for knowing Parseltoug though.
Daphne seemed to find it impressive so Harry supposed that knowing Parseltoung was a good thing he decided.
"Want to go to the library"Harry then suggested.
Daphne nodded.
SCENE BREAK
The Surrey Public Library really was a amazing thing to Harry.
He and Daphnee liked to go there when they got the ability.
THis is a place that you would never find one of the Dursleys in.
Harry liked his host family and Aunt Petunia,Uncle Vernon and Dudley where nice and all.
They fed and kept a roof over his head but they where not his real family though.
Daphne felt like the closest he had to a family though.
Harry was happy then for the Dursleys attitude that allowed him to roam the streets and explore on his own.
And with Daphnee.
After all Aunt Petunia had basically given him a green light to do whatever he wanted outside as long as he was home by 6 for dinner.
Which was more than two hours away anyway.
The library closed at 6:30 so getting home was not a problem.
Harry and Daphnee quickly found a nice spot near the back of the library as they went looking for books.
Skimming the books nearby Harry was intrigued by a section that said "Mysterious Unsolved Deaths of the 20th Century".
Harry sw that their where eight books under there ranging from the 1900s to the 1970s.
The 1930s,1940s and 1970s sections seemed incredibly long compared to the others.
Shrugging Harry decided to pick up "Mysterious Unsolved Deaths of the 1970s".
Going back to the chair and seeing Daphnee over in the Cooking Section he decided to start reading his book.
And what a interesting book it was.
Harry realized how many of these deaths where probably caused by Death Eaters.
July 18th 1977 Brockdale Bridge 42 Dead
May 8th 1975 Avonshire 51 Dead
September 10th 1974 Salsbury 22 Dead
And those where only from the big attacks there where plenty of events that Harry could tell where caused by Death Eaters but had been blamed on the Irish Republican Army.
Harry realized that ever since the whole thing with Ireland had started in the 60s it was real easy to sweep wizard murders of muggles under the rug and call it a act of the IRA.
That was a chilling thought.
Harry wondered how many of those Death Eaters had faced any amount of justice.
Daphne had been filling him in recently about stuff going on in the Wizarding World.
Living with the Potters he had not known much about what was going on in the world and had only heard the name "Voldermort"in passing.
Daphne had told him actually who the Death Eaters and Lord Voldermort where.
Harry realized that Voldermort was the person who had came into his and Micheals room.
Daphne has asked Harry if he remembered what had happened on that night.
If Harry had remembered what had happened he would have told her but his memory only went to when Voldermort had came into there room and after that it just became a blurr.
Harry was startled out of his musings by Daphnee who sat down holding a book about French Cuisine.
She looked down at the title of his book.
"Little bit depressing isint it"Daphnee asked raising an eyebrow.
Harry shrugged in response.
"I was just scanning saw it and was curious".
Daphne just shook her head and then handed him a book on Rudimentary Physics.
"Bit advanced for us"Harry asked skeptically looking at the book.
She rolled an eye"Please"Daphnee said "Where both pretty smart and the top of our class but reading ahead can be good for you especially when it helps with later learning".
"Ok"Harry said understanding what she was talking about "You do know we still have a few years left before then though".
"Harry"Daphnee said "I want us to retain our top of class position for as much of our time at Hogwarts that we can".
"Really"Harry asked.
"Yes"Daphnee said "Reading is good for you after all since dont you want me to continue getting those books from my home"She asked.
"Yes of course Daphnee"Harry replied not wanting to loose access to the disguised books about magic that Daphnee was bringing from home to give to him.
They wernt much but Harry loved them.
Harry did thoroughly enjoy reading especially when he was with Daphnee.
Even when some of the tings in the book went right over his head.
Physics was very complicated and it took Harry a few repeat reads before he was able to tell somewhat what the author was talking about.
"Do you understand this"Harry asked Daphnee.
She shook her head "No"She replied "But Mum always tells me about how important Transfiguration and Potions are in school and it would be nice if we where each proficient in one of those and could help the other one out".
Harry nodded and looked back at the page heartened by his friends forward thinking and determination.
He remembered the other night a dream he had involving Tom Riddle and Transfiguration.
Harry had also finally found out what time period these dreams where taking place in by a poster he had spotted of Winston Churchill.
And that was also near a place in London that looked to be bombed out.
Looking that up in a history book he found the Blitz which correspond with Winston Churchills Prime Minister tenure in early 1940s.
So that ment that Tom Riddle had been born in the 20s and had grown up in the 30s and 40s.
He would then be somewhere in his 50s or 60s now.
Harry wondered where Tom Riddle was now.
His dream about Tom in what must have been a Hogwarts Transfiguration class was very interesting.
Harry had been fascinated by the various processes of the Witches and Wizards doing their spells and the end results after the spells.
And Tom seemed to be one of the best students in that class.
Thats what alwaysed amazed Harry about magic was how special and unique it was.
After all in magic you can literally transform one object into another object with the flick of a stick.
Harry could not wait until he and Daphnee could start learning magic at the "Wonderful" Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry although he was apprehensive about seeing the Potters again.
Daphne seemed quite eager to go to Hogwarts to.
Although that was till 4 or so years away.
So he stil had some time to wait before then.
