Chapter 4: Killing is Too Easy
So sorry I haven't said anything in the last chapters! I don't own anything. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom and Tomb Raider belongs to Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, and I think Square Enix. The only thing I own is the changes made to the stories of the Tomb Raider games/comics and Resident Evil games/comics/CG movies, the persion that has taken over Kathrine Warren's life, and Rose Warren. This story also will be bloody, violent, and have curseing. It's rated T for Teen. Now please enjoy and Review!
Country: Philippine Sea, State: South of Japan, City: Dragon's Triangle, Place: Yamatai, Area: Ruins, Month: August, Day: Tuesday 18th, Year: 1998, Time: 7:45 PM…
The Russian men shoved Lara and Kat to the ruins, showing they had other members of the Endurance crew. Kat's eyes widened as she stared at them. She recognized their faces, their names coming to mind.
"Who are you people?" Lara demanded. "What do you want with us?"
They were shoved forward roughly.
"Silence!" One of the men hissed.
"Lara! Kat!" David, a crewmember with his hands bound, stood at seeing the two young women.
One of the men rammed him back to the ground knocking the wind out of him.
"Stop it!" Kat found herself call out as her locket fell from underneath her shirt, glinting in the mix of torch and flashlights.
"If they give you any trouble, kill them!" The man who had brought Lara and Kat there ordered.
"Don't hurt them…please!" Lara begged, the terror and concern for the crew she'd gotten to know clear in her voice and the way her jaw trembled.
The man who had lead them there grabbed Lara and shoved her toward a tree, slapping her while doing it.
"I said, silence, girl!" He growled darkly, before chuckling and running a hand over her chin and speaking in Russian.
Kat moved to ram him away from Lara. "Don't touch her!" She yelled.
One of the other men quickly threw out his arm so Kat ran right into it with her throat. She fell to the ground in a coughing fit as she struggled to breathe.
"Kat!" Lara screamed.
"Let them go! Let go of them!" Yelled David making the other crew members run to make a distraction. "Lara, Kat! Run!"
Kat felt her knife on her belt still and wondered if the Solarii Brotherhood was stupid or just incompetent. She jumped at the gunshots seeing David shot down, and felt blood hit her face.
"NO!" Kat screamed as the body dropped.
"Oh, no! No!" Lara yelled as she watched the men turn on the running people.
"Round them up!" The lead man yelled waving a hand. "Round them up!" He spun and pistol-whipped Lara, knocking her to the ground. She turned her head and spit out the blood in her mouth. He then pointed the Beretta at her. "Don't you fucking move!" He hissed at her.
He then walked away as Lara sat up and moved to Kat.
"Kill them all!" He yelled as he walked away.
"Kat! Kat, we've got to move!" Lara told her panicked.
Kat moved to go with her but shook her head. "Go! I'll meet up with you!" She pushed Lara with her leg.
"No! I can't leave you here!" Lara told her in a franticly hushed voice.
"Lara, go, they'll come back!" Kat hissed back. "Don't make a sound."
Lara looked to the flashlights and then to Kat. She then ran at a crouch, hoping Kat had a plan. Once behind some cover she waited as Kat pulled her knife out from its sheath, gripping it as she sat up. She did feel herself shaking as she watched one of the men come back.
"Bring up the prisoners!" Shouted the lead man.
Kat held her head up as Lara waited.
"Yeah, I'm on it!" Shouted the one walking toward Kat and passed Lara's cover.
Lara moved to the next portion of cover the moment he passed the first.
"Anything?" A man asked.
"Where's the dark one?" The man asked Kat.
She finished cutting her bonds. "Gone. She teleported."
He glared at her and hit her with the butt of his rifle. It hit her chest knocking her back. He then turned and yelled to his men.
"I can't find the dark haired one! She's gone!" He glared at Kat who sat back up. "I'll deal with the light haired one!" He called back and walked over grabbing her hair and pulling her to her feet.
She yelped as he glared and tightened his grip on her.
"Where's the other girl?" He growled close to her face.
Kat through her peripheral saw Lara vanished around a corner. Kat decided if she was going to deal with these men, might as well channel someone who joked when in battle or shit. "You could use a breath mint." 'That was lame.'
He growled and slammed her into the ground, pinning her there, leaning over her and putting his gun, her revolver, to her side. "I asked you a question, bitch. I don't want to ruin such a lovely face, so I'll ask again…" He pushed her revolver deeper into her side, making a cold pinching pain. "Where did she go?"
Something inside Kat snapped. Be it the position, how he smelled, or the weapon to her side. She screamed and pushed his arm away, the gun went off, missing her side by inches. She then grabbed the side of his head and yelled as she sank her knife into the side of his throat, twisting the blade as she growled at him with panicked eyes. Her mind flashing back to her nightmares of Irons killing her. She felt his hot blood on her hand as she followed him down to the ground as he gurgled on his blood.
She yanked the knife free and then backed away eyes wide. She looked at her hand that was covered in a now dead man's blood. It was quickly cooling to her skin and was getting sticky. She started shaking remembering the blood of David on her face. She dropped to the ground feeling bile churn in her stomach. She coughed a few times as she panted then then she threw up the venison from that morning and a bit of water. She shook for a moment before she wiped her lips with the back of her other hand and walked to the man at a crouch.
'Grab your gun, any ammo he has, and get the fuck out of here.' She nodded slowly grabbing her gun back, holstering it before checking him for ammo. 'It was you or him. He would have killed you. Just like the zombies will try to kill you and Rose. That is all they are. Fast coherent zombies.' She told herself before gripping her knife tighter as she calmed her breathing.
Lara however had made it to a deeply damaged ruined house. She heard the scream from Kat and stiffened fearfully as she heard voices around her.
"Hey, the dark-haired girl's missing! Keep an eye out!"
"Alright!"
"Too bad we could've used new recruits!"
"What about the light-haired one?"
"Heard that scream right? Jake's dealing with her!"
"Oh god…." Lara breathed out scared as the men moved away from her cover as gunfire echoed all around her.
She moved out of cover and up some overgrown stairs. Hearing the man that had taken her and Kat calling out for her.
"OH GOD! THE BITCH KILLED JAKE!" Lara heard a shout as she ducked behind new cover, avoiding flashlight beams.
"What!?"
"He's dead and she's gone!"
"Both girls are missing!"
Lara sighed with relief at hearing that, not really thinking about the implication of Kat's captor being dead.
"What do you see?" Asked one of the men closer to Lara.
"Uh…nothing." His friend said nervously.
"Check the huts!" Called the lead man.
Lara swallowed as they talked and searched.
"Take this one to the pit!" Shouted someone as men passed her cover. "Kill the rest!"
She slipped into an out cover of a damaged hut. It had two openings, the one she slid into and the other was in front of her. She calmed her breathing the best she could as flashlights filled her hiding spot, but didn't linger, indicating that they hadn't found her.
"Give me some light over here!" Shouted a voice making the beams move away from her.
She heard a man speaking in Russian, his voice sounded close, but she couldn't pinpoint him.
"The women must be here somewhere…Keep looking!"
Lara turned her head away and held her breath as light passed her again and the lead man passed her hiding spot. 'Please don't find me please don't find me…' She mentally begged.
"Check around the ruins there!"
Kat on the other hand was ducking into cover and avoiding killing. She would, but why draw attention to herself when they had already found the first man she had killed. She was working her way to where Lara was. She hoped so anyway.
A flashlight beam passed over Lara making her tense up.
"No one escapes!" The Russian man said sounding too close for Lara's liking.
Lara looked to her left and felt her breath hitch. The Russian man was there, the one that took the Beretta, the one that lead these men, the one that tried to touch her. He had the Beretta pointed at her and was smirking darkly.
"Out." He said in English before muttering in Russian again.
Slowly Lara stepped out of her hiding spot. He grabbed her and shoved her to the wooden wall grinning at her.
"I always find them…" He purred as he moved his hand down her arm and started to grab her waist.
Lara kneed him in the groin, just missing his naughty bits. She still hit enough for him to wheeze and double over. She shoved passed him, aiming to run. He turned and grabbed her arm, pulling her back and slamming her into the wood and stone wall.
He then leaned in close to her neck and hair, inhaling deeply through his nose, making Lara whimper. He muttered in Russian something, but Lara leaned forward, she didn't want him this close to her anymore. She bit down roughly onto his ear, and then turned her head away sharply. She tasted blood, feeling it on her lips and cheek as she let go and he screamed.
He backed away from her as she tried to run again, yelping as she rammed him on accident. She watched as the Beretta was knocked form his hands. Seeing it, Lara jumped at it. The bounds, which were coming undone, snapped and she tossed them off her wrists. The man stood up gripping his torn ear as Lara reached the gun, grabbing it up.
He rushed at her as she rolled onto her back, turning the barrel of the gun on him. Both hands gripping it, she squeezed off a shot, hitting him in the stomach, he was close enough that blood sprayed on her. He seemed to ignore this injury and grabbed her hands. They struggled, ending up with the gun pointed at Lara's head. She wrenched her arms, and the gun was pointed at the man.
POP!
The man growled a yell as his head snapped back, blood spraying and his head cracked open, bone, flesh, and brain matter chunks flying. His limp corpse fell on top of Lara as she whimpered and panted out some sobs. She shoved him off her. She then rolled to the side and sat up pointing her gun at him eyes wide as she felt his blood on her chest, her arms, hands, and face.
There was some kind of sound from what remained of his blood-covered face. For a moment, he just shifted his head, and then fell still making no sounds. Lara lowered the gun as she stood a moment and let out a strangled sob taking a few steps before dropping to her knees, feeling sick at what she had done. She could feel the vomit rise; she coughed as she struggled to swallow it back down, rocking back and forth.
"Oh god." She gasped out as she threw her head back, trying to get a hold of herself.
Kat made it to Lara and saw her on her knees. She rushed over and grabbed her shoulders. "Lara, hey. Hey, look at me." Kat told her quickly as Lara stared at her in a mix of shame and relief. "We've got to go." She looked to the man and grabbed the bow from him and handing it to Lara. "It was you or him."
Lara sniffled and nodded as they both stood. Lara strapped her bow to her back and gripped the handgun. They checked the man's corpse; Lara took a makeshift gun holster. Once they did, they reloaded their guns and moved for new cover.
"They ran into the forest!"
"Get me some light over here!"
"Wait…over here!"
The two ignored the men as they moved from one cover to the next. They got to a bridge as buildings were set on fire to prevent a hiding place or burning people out of them.
"Run! Run!"
"Shut him up!"
"Find the others…come on, let's go!"
They then bolted up some stone stairs that were maintained better and up onto a hill. Ash from the burning buildings was floating on the air and sticking to the blood on both women. They could hear the screaming of men around them and the laughing of others. It was all so twisted and scary. They reached an arch that was away from the prying eyes of anyone in the burning ruined village.
"Stay back! I'll shoot!"
"Take him out!"
Kat switched to her revolver as Lara tightened her grip of the Beretta. The two moved up the stairs into a different part of the village. Kat saw the crates, the arrangement, the ammo boxes, the quivers of arrows, and most impotently the big open area.
"Shit…" She hissed making Lara look to her curiously. "I'm sensing a fight."
"What?" Lara asked as a fire arrow flew out of nowhere, grazing a cut into Lara's arm and sinking into the back of Kat's left hand.
Kat screamed and dropped behind the cover with Lara, who had gripped her arm. Kat lifted her left-hand shaking. The fire of the arrow had gone out between grazing Lara's arm and sinking into the back of her hand.
"Got another two!" Called out a man, more than likely the one who had shot them with the fire arrow. "They went down over there!"
Kat shook as she glared at the arrow in her hand. She got caught in the bear trap and had two gashes on either side of her ankle, now she had an arrow in the back of her hand. Lara spotted another full clip of 9mm bullets as Kat put her gun down.
"Is she dead?" Asked another man as Lara quickly snatched up the clip and ejected the empty and slammed the new one home.
"I don't know!"
Kat gripped the arrow whimpering in pain as she felt it. It did not feel like it had hit any of the bones of her hand, as if it just barely missed the middle bone. It was painful, so it hit nerves.
"Outsiders! We know you're here!" Shouted one of the men as Kat turned her hand hissing out a whimper of pain. "There's nowhere to run!" He sounded closer as Lara cocked her gun.
Lara looked at Kat as she saw that only part of the arrowhead was through the palm of her hand. Lara was panting in fear then set her jaw and stood. She needed to keep them back. She turned her Beretta on them.
"Shit! Gun!" The men yelled as she quickly took aim.
She got a head shot on the one holding a bow, sending him to the ground dead. She turned to the second one, as he was turning to run, she got off two shots.
"Stay away from us!" Lara yelled at them sounding fearful and fierce all at once.
The man dove behind cover. She ducked into her cover as he fired two shots. She then came out at a pause and saw him move to get to a different cover. She didn't hesitate and fired one shot at his back, sending him to his knees, then a second through the head. She then turned to Kat.
"Kat, what do you want me to do?" She asked concerned.
"Hang on…" Kat looked to Lara shakily. "Can you cover my mouth or get me something to bite on?"
Lara nodded uneasily, grabbed up a stick, and kneeled next to Kat. "What are you going to do?"
Kat took the stick, letting go of the arrow in her hand. "I'm going to push the arrow through my hand…then snap the head off…and pull it out. The head is flared… can't pull it back out…it is in too deep."
Lara swallowed as Kat put the stick between her teeth and then gripped the arrow. She shook as she started to push the arrow through her hand. She hissed and screeched as she pushed, the point of the arrow finally came out of her palm and she stopped for a moment, blood dripping and pooling on the arrow from her hand. Lara looked around them, hoping no one could hear Kat over the distant gunshots and the fires. Kat took a few breathes before she snapped the point off and then gripped the arrow shaft again on the back of her hand. She screeched and whimpered as she pulled the arrow shaft from her hand. With a 'Shluck' sound, the arrow was out of her hand, leaving a bleeding hole.
Lara opened the hip pouch on Kat's side as she through the shaft away. She pulled out the bandages, finding they were the last. She took Kat's hand and wrapped it with the bandage. She tied it off and looked around them.
"We need to get moving." Lara told her.
Kat nodded, grabbing up her gun with her right hand. "Just…have to get used to firing one handed."
They got to a door of a gate. Lara drew her pry axe, slammed it home on the lock, and worked it back and forth.
"Find anything?"
They heard a man shout.
"Not yet!"
With a popping crack, Lara got the doors open and pushed through them.
"There! I see them!" Came a shout.
"Kill them!"
Kat slipped through the doors and helped Lara close them as fire arrows whizzed past or embedded in wood.
"Burn them out!"
"You're gonna die in there!"
Kat and Lara quickly backed up from the doors as they took to the fire quickly. They begin coughing on the building smoke. They both looked around the building and saw some weak boards on a wall.
"Come out! Come out!" Someone taunted.
The two hurried over on hands and knees. Lara raised her leg and kicked the wood out of their way after a few good hits. They both crawled out though the hole and coughed as they breathed cleaner air. Looking around, they found that they were on a balcony but could not take in details. They ran to the right and jumped the gap of a collapsed bridge. Lara landed just fine, but Kat fumbled on her feet yelping form her still injured ankle.
"Shit!" Kat hissed out as Lara turned and helped her to her feet.
"Come on!" Lara hissed into her ear.
The two ran on the cobblestone ground, grabbing up supplies as they ran. They kept low, saying in a crouch as Lara switched the Beretta for her bow.
"I don't hear anyone…What do you think?"
"They're probably dead!"
"Keep looking…check the other huts!"
They came to some cover and saw more huts on fire and some men walking around.
"Hey! Hey, you find any more down there?!"
"No, nothing, but keep an eye out! The fires may send a few your way!"
Lara drew an arrow and nocked it to her bow. She turned her bow sideways and aimed at the man on a ledge. She drew back and then loosed. The arrow sank into his head, he swayed then fell off the side, his flashlight going off as he hit the ground. The two left cover and ran over to the ledge.
Lara turned her back to the wall, strapping her bow to her back and laced her fingers together. Kat anchored her boot onto Lara's hands then Lara boosted her up. Kat yelped as she gripped the edge with her hand. She pulled herself up and turned, offering her good hand to Lara after holstering her gun. Lara jumped up, took it, and helped Kat by also pulling herself up. Together they ran to a wooden ramp, finding that the only way was more climbing.
"On three." Lara said.
Kat nodded wincing at her hand's pain spasms.
"One…two…three!"
They bolted up the ramp and gripped the wooden beam. Not pausing to rest, they shimmied along the side and around the corner.
"Let's see what he's got.."
"Wallet, dead phone…"
Kat hissed out whimpers and winces as she and Lara moved to find a way to climb up. They climbed up the two more handholds before they were both on solid ground again and moved into some cover, hearing the men so close.
"It's always the same shit…"
"So, what came in? Another tanker?"
Lara nocked an arrow and peered over the cover to the men, drawing back from the side bow hold.
"No, looked like some kind of research ship."
Lara loosed a shot, killing one, nocking, loosening again to kill the other one. Both fell to their knees then the ground in quick section. Lara and Kat searched the bodies, a rope ladder dropped down from the wall.
"What's going on down there? Everyone okay?"
Lara drew her bow back and loosed it at the man coming down the ladder. The arrow hit and he fell, screaming to the ground. As he hit the ground, the scream cut off as he died instantly with a crack to his head. Lara looked at Kat. It was clear that they needed a break, somewhere to let it out, really tend to Lara's arm and Kat's hand, they couldn't here. It was just too dangerous.
"I'll go first." Lara whispered to Kat and walked to the ladder taking hold.
"Okay." Kat nodded as Lara started climbing.
"Lara, Kat, are you there?" Roth's voice came through their radios.
Kat started climbing as Lara pulled her radio to her mouth.
"Yes! We're both here!" Lara breathed out relieved.
"I can see smoke coming from the old ruins, are you two okay?" Roth asked them as they climbed, Lara one handed as she kept a hold of her radio.
"Oh, god…Roth, we're in trouble." Lara breathed as Kat started climbing one handed as well, pulling her own radio with her injured hand. "They're killing people."
"What?" Roth asked sounding horrified. "Who?"
"Men…We don't know why." Kat said into her radio, pain clear in her voice as she tried to push it down.
"We had to kill some of them." Lara said shaky as they climbed. "We had no choice."
"That can't have been easy." Roth said trying to comfort them.
"It's scary how easy it was." Kat said.
"We've got to warn the others, Roth." Lara said as she reached the top and pulled herself over the edge then put her radio to her belt turning to help Kat.
"Don't worry about them right now." Roth told them as Kat hissed when Lara grabbed her arm. "You two just do whatever it takes to get to me, girls."
"We'll try." Kat said as Lara and she stood next to an unburned hut.
They put their radios away and looked around.
