Mari-

With forgein blood flowing out of his mouth the half ghoul told me that Rize's death basically was a matter of random chance.

But death is often a being of freak chance even if it's murder.

Another giggle slipped between my gritted teeth when I released the boy's ebony hair.

" They call me Pita so what's your name?"

" Kaneki."

He whispered his name without daring to look me in the eye.

His standing now without a hint of weakness caused by his previous wounds.

" Well Kaneki , tell me who were you to my little sister," I say with a small smile and green eyes that now desired to bleed out nothing but sweetness.

" We were friends ...Rize and I were like a book nerd dynamic duo," Kaneki says with a shallow laugh that almost sounded sad or even...anxiety filled .

He touches his chin as he talks, almost like how Obi-Wan Kenobi does during intense moments of reflection or debate.

" You're free to go for now Kaneki and thanks for answering my questions," I call over my shoulder while in the midst of skipping out of the shop.

My heart feels hollow while I stalk the hooded form of the half ghoul until he is locking the door to his apartment.

I yawn then and begin making my way home during those last hours leading up to the rebirth of the sun.

:

When my hand went to hit the alarm until it fell silent in submission it accidentally knocked a now cold plate of omelettes and a credit card off the nightstand.

There was a sticky note stuck to my forehead I realized with a groan.

" That's just plum great," I hissed through gritted teeth as my hand yanked the sticky note off of my forehead.

The well meaning home made meal was scattered across the wood floor .

Sadly the five second rule is not honored, in fact it's completely forgotten as I glare down at the mess and crush the sticky note in my fists for a good few minutes.

My eyes close after those few minutes leaving me to take deep breaths and embrace the serenity that only exists when one gazes into the darkness of their eyelids.

When my eyes open again I bring the wrinkled slightly torn note towards my face.

I made you breakfast. Hope you like it and ...have a great day!

:) - Love , Yoriko

" Probably shouldn't tell her it ended up cold and on the floor," I mused out loud before tossing the paper onto the nightstand .

The alarm clock is still shrieking like an insufferable child but luckily it's not really one .

I hit its snooze button with all my might until finally after a few tries the shrieking abruptly stops.

Hopefully it didn't just break I really don't want to buy a fourth alarm clock this month.

I retreat back into my cocoon of blankets and pillows completely fine with the prospect of leaving the omelette to rot away on the ground .

It would be fine for it to rot there for an hour until my final cat nap came to an end.

:

The cat nap quickly ate away the remainder of the day.

Yori wandered into my bedroom after a trying day at school with a brave sort of smile.

That smile soon became a strained monster that resembled a broken frown more than a showcase of joy when her eyes surveyed the mistreatment of her gift.

" Did you not like it," Yori shyly asked half conscious me while she picked up dirty food and shattered plate bits.

" Shame it shattered , that plate would have been her favorite."

" Mari who are you talking about ?"

" Forget what I said, it's really foolish of me to care about the dead's preferences ."

Yoriko gazes becomes a misty hurricane upon hearing my words .

But I hardly care to notice or entertain the idea of trying to heal her delicate feeling.

My mind is elsewhere in a far away time and place that's filled with red dragon lilies .

Rize stand beside me on the sidewalk silently studying a field covered in those damn flowers with a mocking grin.

Her violent eyes are alight with the classic delight of the hunt while she gazes at them.

" Apparently they are flowers of death and tragic love or ...something like that ," I tell Rize after a while of silently letting her drown in the sadistic amusement that those flowers somehow inspired within her.

That's when the smile dies upon her lips and she apologizes for wasting time.

" Don't give me an apology that means nothing to you," I had said with an eye roll before leaving my little blood sister in peace so she could gaze at the flowers all she wanted.

What a simple being Rize could be at times when the hungry demon inside of her wanted to stop and smell the 'roses'.

What a simple being I must be for a mère painting of that damn flower on a stupid shattered plate to be the thing to finally make me cry.

:

Kaneki does not notice the silver masked intruder entering his apartment through the wide open door.

I slammed the front door shut before locking it with a pair of gritted teeth.

The floor of the small apartment is covered in spilled milk and half eaten hamburgers .

Kaneki leans over the kitchen sink trembling as his hand rifles through an opened drawer.

He pulls out a butcher's knife from that drawer with an anxiety cursed laugh.

" If that's true...if that's true.. then this," he hissed before trailing off when his mind decides it's time to bring the blade down upon himself.

There is a loud shrieking noise that reverberates throughout the tiny apartment when the blade touches his stomach.

Kaneki sinks to the messy wooden floor when the knife shatters without bothering to leave any hint of a blemish upon his skin.

" What a silly fool you are," I whispered before kneeling down next to his curled up form.

" I ...don't want..to be a..ghoul," Kaneki coughs out as uncontrollable sobs send his body into yet another shaking fit.

" But sweetie you don't get a choice in that matter and once you're a monster it's forever. Suck it up and enjoy the freedom of this hell, you little fool."
