A/N: I'm gonna post this chapter now before everything I've eaten for lunch makes me fall asleep and who knows when I'll wake up.
Happy Easter everyone!
Chapter Six: Jealousy
The morning after the half-demon woke up thinking about what happened in his office the day before and about the best way to let Kagome know that it was required for her to come to the party as his date.
"She's gonna throw a fit for sure," he thought while looking for something to eat in one of his kitchen cabinets. Not that his fridge or that his store cupboard contained anything else than prepackaged ramen. He switched the kettle on to boil some water and grabbed two packets of beef ramen. He slurped quietly and soundly while thinking about the problem at hand.
"It's not like she can tell me no, after all. Even if she gets angry at the end she will have to come and behave since there will a lot of our partners," he smirked, maybe it's been a really good idea to tell Koga that she was his date, he didn't want to go alone anyway and he didn't want to ask some stranger to come or even worse let his mother find him a date. He shivered at the thought.
Shortly after he grabbed the keys, closed his apartment and headed towards the office. The traffic was really a hassle some mornings, but luckily for him, he didn't live so far from the building and with time he had learned some shortcuts that made it possible for him to avoid the most trafficked roads. He arrived within a short time, parked his car in his lot and was about to enter the main sliding doors when the scene in front of him made him stop.
That morning Kagome was in a hurry because her alarm clock didn't go off. Luckily Sota woke her up when it was almost time to leave for school and still hadn't seen his sister. She had quickly showered and eaten a bite of the breakfast her brother had prepared - since she had started working three years ago breakfast duty was up to him - and was panicking about the scene Inuyasha would have likely made when he'd come to the office and she wasn't already there. She had given up all hopes when her cellphone suddenly rang.
"Hello?" she answered without even looking for the caller's name. She was leaving the shrine at that moment and waving goodbye at Grampa who was already up to greet the first shrine visitors.
"Kagome? Are you in a hurry?" the voice asked realizing she was out of breath. It was Bankotsu.
"Oh, Ban, yeah. My alarm didn't go off this morning and Inuyasha is gonna murder me since I'll be late for sure," she told him while she rushed down the stairs. She stopped agape at the bottom looking in front of her.
Bankotsu ended the call and grinned at her. He was leaning against his bike, arms crossed and two helmets on the seat next to him. "Guess it was a good idea to surprise you this morning, uh?" he told her.
"You came to pick me up?" Kagome asked still shocked while approaching him. He nodded and pulled her in an embrace before he pecked her on the lips.
"Come or we'll be both late for work," Bankotsu encouraged her while passing one of the two helmets. "I had to change my route slightly this morning and I was on my way here so I thought, why don't I pick up this damsel in distress?" he chuckled.
Kagome hit him lightly while seating behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist before they left. "I'm not a damsel, hmph. But I'm thankful you are here this morning. With the bike we can even avoid the traffic and I can't imagine how late I would have been if I had to wait for the train."
"You're thankful just for the bike? Geez, Kagome-chan, one would think you were grateful for the handsome man in front of you," he joked. "Brace yourself, I'm going to have to go a little faster if we want to make it in time."
The driving was a bit reckless and more than once Kagome held on to him for fear of losing her balance, not that he minded, but in the end, they arrived even before the start of the working hours. This left them time for a quick goodbye before Bankotsu had to leave. The bike was parked on the sidewalk and he was leaning against it while his hands rested on Kagome's hips.
"So, you're grateful for something other than the ride this morning?" he asked her.
She pretended to think about it, a hand on her chin and a thoughtful look on her face. "Now that you made me think of it, I'm always grateful for the breakfast my little brother prepared me," she giggled.
"Stupid," he muttered playfully against her lips before he cut the distance and caught them in a kiss more passionate than the first. Kagome complied without problems, her arms wrapping around his neck while Bankotsu hugged her tightly.
None of them noticed the half-demon who arrived at that precise moment. Inuyasha narrowed his eyes at two, immediately recognizing the woman as Kagome and clenched his fists in rage. He certainly wasn't going to stand by and watch while this guy stuck his tongue down her throat like it was nothing. He smirked thinking about how infuriated he was going to made her even before they started working.
"Higurashi!" Inuyasha bellowed making the two jump, Kagome hastily put some distance between them. She turned to her boss, cheeks tinted in red and removed Bankotsu's hands from her waist. Bankotsu glared at the guy who had just interrupted them. "Are you going to keep putting on a show in front of everyone or you want to start the working day? You know very well that I don't appreciate either delays or certain displays. I thought we had talked about this just yesterday afternoon, wasn't I clear enough?" he asked with a hard and cool tone. At that moment he was grateful for Sesshomaru's existence since it was thanks to him that he had learnt the cold bastard boss facade. Inwardly, he was laughing his head off at the glare both of them were sending him, even if Kagome was more ashamed at being caught in a compromise position than about the interrupted kiss. She didn't know if Inuyasha was really angry with her, but she knew he called her Higurashi just when he was enraged or wanted to make a point.
"No, sir. I was merely saying goodbye before going up and started the day," Kagome hastily answered, figuring it was better this way. She waved at Bankotsu not even pecking him again as he clearly would have liked to and entered the building avoiding Inuyasha's gaze. The half-demon in question followed her with his eyes, noticing she had worn for the first time a pair of business pants. Much to his relief they weren't bad on her and hugged her curves as much as the pencil skirts she had always worn.
His gaze stopped at her behind for a couple of seconds out of habit, but Bankotsu noticed and didn't like it. If Kagome had told him her boss usually did that every day, more than once, he would have been more enraged than ever, but she had avoided talking about the matter with him because she didn't want him to worry or even being jealous. After all, they weren't a couple yet and she didn't want him to act like a jealous boyfriend. Besides, she didn't need someone to defend herself from Inuyasha's hungry looks. The half-demon raised his gaze to him and grinned like the Chesire cat just before he followed Kagome inside the building. He was so satisfied with himself for his accomplished goal. He didn't know why he was feeling like that, but Inuyasha hadn't liked the way this guy was holding Kagome, nor he knew why he had suddenly felt the strong impulse to separate them and let this guy know that he had done than on purpose.
Bankotsu gritted his teeth and then left after another death glare sent his way. Maybe, he would have to talk with Kagome about this boss of her.
Kagome had already turned on the computer and was checking today's schedule when Inuyasha reached her on the fifth floor. He wasn't really angry with her, he was more annoyed at the fact that he had acted upon it and the fact the scene had irked him. He shouldn't care who Kagome is dating or who she kissed. That was the reason he didn't even greet her formally when he arrived and other employees hastily disappeared from his sight as soon as they recognized his bad mood.
"Kagome! In my office, NOW!" he told her just before slamming the office's door. It was a wonder the door didn't fall out of its hinges with how many times a day he slammed it.
Kagome gaped at him the whole time, what the hell was wrong with him this morning? He had already been an asshole out there and she wasn't even doing anything wrong. It was almost a repeat of what had happened yesterday afternoon with Koga and it pissed her off that probably everything she had told him had fallen on deaf ears. She quickly got up and followed him, she knocked and then opened the door without waiting for him to answer.
"Inuyasha? Is something wrong?" she asked cautiously.
"Take a seat, Kagome, we need to talk," was his answer.
She raised an eyebrow and did as he said. "About earlier, Inuyasha. You weren't serious, were you? I wasn't doing anything wrong and I don't understand why you pointed out what happened yesterday afternoon. I thought I had been clear, I wasn't the one flirting with Koga and surely I wasn't slacking off this morning."
Inuyasha fixed her with beady eyes while he adjusting the papers on his desk and turned on his computer. "I don't care what you do in your free time, Kagome..."
Liar his conscience told him, but he shook it off.
"...but I care when whatever you decide to do interferes with your work here or makes you being late. As for the rest, for me, you can show as much lack of demeanour as you want. I'm not the one who was having a tongue shoved down my throat in front of everyone who walked into the office this morning," he continued shrugging.
Kagome narrowed her eyes at him, "Why you... you're the one to talk, Inuyasha? Just yesterday I told you how disgusting I find your ogling me all the time and you practically begged me when I threatened to come to work with baggy clothes. And you have the guts to judge me because some guy I am seeing was kissing me goodbye?" she said enraged.
Inuyasha snorted, "If you call that a simple goodbye kiss," he replied nonchalantly, "besides, I was not begging you, I was reminding you that the company policy requires you to come decently dressed to work," he specified.
"And I am the Japan empress!" Kagome shot back.
"Are you done? Because I've called you to discuss something else, and since we both have a lot to do, I would appreciate not wasting any more time on unnecessary matters," Inuyasha cooly remarked.
"You call that unnecessary matters? I'd like to make sure my yesterday's point is clear enough to you," Kagome ignored him.
"Yeah, yeah, as you say," Inuyasha dismissed the question easily, "as long as my point is clear too. Try to make sure outside issues don't interfere with your work here if you want your contract renewed at the end of your three-month probationary period," he stated.
"Yes, sir," Kagome spat out through gritted teeth.
"Very well, since this matter is resolved, let's pass to the next. You remember the next week event we have organized for this month's launch?" he asked her.
"Yes. I've prepared the guest list and almost everyone had confirmed their presence, just a couple of person still need to," Kagome readily answered.
Inuyasha nodded, "What about you?"
"Me? I thought just the highest positions in the company were allowed to come," Kagome replied.
"Yeah, but that obviously doesn't count if my brother and I specifically invite someone. Didn't I invite Sango after all?"
Kagome tilted her head in acknowledgement, without really understand where he wanted to go. "Yes, she confirmed her presence at the party last week. She is coming with Miroku."
"Obviously," Inuyasha said, "you are coming as my date," added then unceremoniously.
"Excuse me?" her eyes almost out of their sockets.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "You," he repeated waving a hand toward her, "are coming as my date. I needed one and you're the easiest choice. I know you're not one of these squealing girls who would get me deaf by the end of the evening and you know our partners more than other employees because you're my assistant. So you'll come with me to the party and you'll dress appropriately," he informed her.
"Wait a moment here" Kagome interjected, "you can't order me to come as your guest. You don't even know if I am free that evening. In fact, that evening I absolutely cannot," she added remembering that next week Grampa was going visiting a Shrine with Yoshiro for a couple of days and she couldn't leave Sota all alone.
Inuyasha raised his brow, "And why not? You're already occupied with Mr. Rapunzel?"
"Bankotsu has nothing to do with it! I have other duties besides my job here and you cannot force me to come with you to the party," she declared irked by this bossy behaviour.
"What duty could you have other than your job here at twenty-two years old that prevent you from going out at night?" Inuyasha scoffed.
Before Kagome could throttle him, the phone rang and since they were both in his office Kagome couldn't answer from her post. Inuyasha picked up, eyes still fixed on her.
"Taisho Tech, Tashio Inuyasha speaking," he said, he listened to what the person on the other line was saying and then passed her the receiver. Kagome looked at him quizzically and reached him behind the desk to grab it.
"Hello?"
"Am I talking with Mrs. Higurashi?" a masculine voice asked.
"It's Miss actually," Kagome answered, "may I ask who is calling?"
"Good Morning Miss Higurashi, I am Mr Himura. We never met before because I am the new headmaster of the Musashi Institute, I am calling for a matter regarding Sota Higurashi and yours was the only name listed for emergencies," the man continued. Inuyasha, who had no problems hearing what the man was saying, saw Kagome's body stiffen and wonder who this Sota was.
"What happened?" Kagome hastily replied, "Has something happened to him?" panic was starting to bubble up in her stomach at the thought of something happening to her little brother.
"Well, Miss Higurashi the problem is simple. Sota has just been suspended and needs to be picked up," Mr. Himura replied nonchalantly while gazing at the boys that were still in his office. He had already called the parents of one of the two, Sota was the second.
Kagome demeanour swiftly changed from anxious to enraged. "He has been WHAT?"
"When you'll arrive here we'll discuss the problem better," Mr. Himura continued unfazed.
She clenched her fists tightly, she couldn't pick up Sota right now. Inuyasha would never allow her to leave if it was not an emergency unless she explained to him exactly why she needed to pick Sota up and she had no desire to spill her beans to him. "Uhm, Mr. Himura, would be a problem if a family friend came instead of me?" Miroku worked five minutes to the middle school and she could go speak with the headmaster tomorrow morning if she asked for an hour's leave in advance.
"I'm afraid it is not possible, Miss Higurashi. Only a parent or a guardian is allowed in the school for these matters."
"Ok then, I'll try to come as soon as possible. I'm still at work right now," Kagome complied resigned, inwardly cringing at the thought of the fight Inuyasha was going to put up. She peered at him and saw that he wasn't very pleased indeed.
"Very well, I'll wait for you in my office," Mr. Himura agreed before ending the call.
She put down the receiver and turned to look at Inuyasha who had his arms folded and was watching her expectantly. "May I inquire why you told this man that you were reaching him as soon as possible? In case you've forgotten, you're still at work."
"I don't have time to fight or to explain to you now, Inuyasha. I am the only one who can pick Sota up and I'm already very angry because he got himself suspended," she answered, a hand on her forehead trying to calm herself and not losing her patience.
"And why is that? This Himura said that a parent or a guardian can go, let them," he shrugged, there was no need for her to go to this kid's school while she was still working.
"You gave yourself the answer," she told him as she turned on her heels and left the office in a hurry not waiting for him to say more. Inuyasha gaped at her, was she really going to leave him like that? He got up and followed her, she was already grabbing her purse and jacket.
"You can't leave during office hours, Kagome," Inuyasha made her notice.
"I can if it's an emergency and right now this is for me," she replied curtly. The half-demon could easily detect the anger in her facade and decide to let the matter drop for now.
"Just for once, I'll let you go. But you have to come back here as soon as you picked him up and I expected our other discussion ended. You are coming with me to the event," he declared before coming back to his office and adding, "and the time you'll lose will count as your lunch break."
"It's not like I usually have time to take one, jerk," she shouted back.
Inuyasha took his seat behind the desk again and thought about the phone call and Kagome's words.
"A parent? Is this kid her son? Maybe this is the personal reason she was talking about when she said she had to leave college. And Sango was reticent about talking about that too" he thought while checking some data absently. "Did she get pregnant as a teenager? Did the father leave her alone? How old he is?"
There was still a lot he didn't know about her even if they had been working together for more than a month, maybe he should try to get Miroku to talk.
When Kagome finally reached the principal's office, she found in the room Sota, another boy with what she presumed was his mother and behind the desk a man with streaked hair that couldn't have more than 35 years old.
"Mr. Himura I assume?" she asked as soon as she entered the office. Everyone but Sota, who was staring at the ground, turned to her. "I am Kagome Higurashi."
"Miss Higurashi, come take a seat," the man encouraged her, he tried to hide his surprise at seeing Kagome but to no avail. "I was expecting someone mmm... older" he finally said.
The woman who was seated next to the other boy snorted, "Probably she had the kid when she was a child herself and then got even dumped," she said rudely. Mr. Himura glared hard at her, Kagome gasped, Sota clenched his fists in rage and finally, the other boy snickered at them.
"Excuse me?" Kagome asked, "Is this the way she raised her son? Because certainly, I would never teach my brother to talk this way," she then addressed the principal, "I am Sota's guardian, our parents are both dead," she explained.
"Very well, I'm sorry for the loss and the inconvenient," Mr. Himura told her, "now that you both are here we can talk about what happened. Their PE teacher told me they were caught fistfighting," he explained. Kagome hastily started checking Sota for any injuries, but apart from a cut near his brow he was clean, "I required their presence in my office as soon as the nurse finished with them. Luckily, they didn't hurt each other excessively, but I do not appreciate this kind of behaviour in my school. That's why they both already got three days of suspension. However..." he trailed off looking sternly at the two boys, "neither of them hadn't explained why they were fighting yet. Sota, Junichi, would you please say your sister and mother why you were fighting?"
Silence followed his question, then Junichi started snickering again and Sota clenched his hands tighter than before.
"If you don't answer your situation could get worse. Junichi, I do not find this situation funny and I'm sure your mother agrees," Mr. Himura scolded him.
Kagome put her hand on Sota's shoulder, "Sota?" she had never seen his brother so angry, his body was even shaking badly.
"I didn't anything wrong!" he suddenly shouted and then pointed at his classmate, "I got sick of all the insults he was hurling at my family, and then today..." he stopped himself unable to continue.
"Today?" Mr. Himura peered at Junichi who wasn't showing any sign of regret, his mother looked unfazed too. Inwardly he shook his head.
"Sota you can tell us," Kagome encouraged him. Sota shook his head in denial.
"He started spreading rumours that my sister was my mother, that I was a bastard son and she a good for nothing and everyone in the school was talking about this, and..."
Kagome gasped and Mr. Himura continued for him when he stopped, "He told something about your sister that got you riled up?" Sota nodded. "Junichi, do you have something to say?"
The boy shrugged in disinterest, "Why should I? She is a hot piece of ass and everyone knew he had no parents, I think that it's obvious she had him young and they are lying. I just told everything the truth."
The principal narrowed his eyes, "Mrs. Ishida, you let her son speaking in such a disrespectful manner in your presence?"
"While my son may have used the wrong words, I don't see what he did wrong. They are young, it's something that can happen," she excused her son.
"I don't think it's normal for a boy to spread such lies and use such a language," Kagome shot back, "as for you" she addressed the boy, "even if I wasn't his sister I don't see why you should care about and insult my family." If his mother remained so impassive in front of his son language, it wasn't hard to imagine that this was an everyday occurrence.
Mr. Himura interrupted the two women, "Very well, it seems to me that we have cleared the reason why you had a fight," he said while looking at both of the boys. He turned to Kagome, "Miss Higurashi, I appreciate your coming here even if you were clearly at work, you both can leave. Sota will still have to come back after three days, however, but you both can leave now." Kagome bowed lightly and then got up, Sota following behind her. "Mrs. Ishida and her son will stay to discuss further."
When Kagome and Sota left the school, she pulled him in an embrace, he put his arms around her waist.
"Are you mad with me, sis?" he asked in a meek voice.
"I understand why you were angry, Sota, I mean that woman made me want to punch them myself but I refrained myself. It's not good to use violence. If you want to fight do it with words, not with fists," she answered, "I worry about you, little brother."
Sota tightening his grip on her, "I don't wanna people talk bad about you when you worked so much for us.".
"You don't have to heed rumours, I'm sure Mr. Himura will care about it." her brother nodded. "Now, since I have to go back to work and can't bring you home, what do you say about spending the morning with Miroku? I'm sure he won't mind," she proposed smiling.
"What about Grampa?" he asked raising his eyes.
"You'll tell him the truth," Kagome told him sternly, Sota groaned.
Later that day Kagome was quietly trying to make up for the lost time, going through some files and answering email when Sango reached her.
"You ready, Kagome-chan? I'll bring you out to lunch."
Kagome sighed, "I can't, Sango. Not only is Inuyasha not in the office so I couldn't leave anyway, but he also took away my lunch break because I had to leave the office this morning. I had to pick Sota up at school" she explained.
Sango gasped while leaning towards her, "What happened? Is he ok?"
"Yes, I'll tell you tonight. He's at Miroku right now since I hadn't the time to bring him back at the shrine," she replied. "Rather I have some more juicy information to tell you," she said looking left and right before signalling for her to come behind the desk. Sango immediately grinned at complied, leaning over her desk. "Inuyasha should be out for the next half an hour if you are willing to spend your lunch break here," Kagome told her, "but we have to keep our voices low in case he comes back."
"Yeah, Yeah, his ears are not for show," Sango giggled, "now, I want the juicy gossip."
Kagome quickly told her everything that happened today, from Bankotsu to the request to come to the party as Inuyasha's date. When she finished Sango couldn't contain her laughter, she almost choked on her sandwich. Kagome had to pass her a cup of water and pat her back. "Don't choke for me, please," she rolled her eyes.
"Oh, I'm sorry, it's just..." more laughter, "I was so right." Kagome raised her brow in question, "Yesterday! You laughed at me, but I knew he likes you, believe me, I've known him for some years now. He hasn't acted like this with any of his ex female assistants, he doesn't get angered every time Koga flirts with a girl and especially he doesn't act like a jealous boyfriend every time he saw his assistant kiss a guy. Plus, if he invited you to the party it means he likes you."
"Sango, we talked about this," Kagome breathed out a deep sigh, "he is doing most of these things to rile me up, he made that clear since the first day. He's seen that I'm no wimpy and he's having his fun. But he doesn't understand that he is exaggerating. Heck, he said that I was the one who lacks decency because I was kissing Bankotsu, and him? He has no shame with me."
Sango put her arm around Kagome's shoulder, "Kagome-chan, let me tell you something. While Inuyasha likes to irk people because he thinks himself funny, he has never acted like this. I've never seen him in all these years be so fixated on one woman and this morning, believe me, he was jealous. He had no other reason to separate the both of you, you weren't even late!" she exclaimed rolling her eyes.
"Sango, the only reason he is so fixated with me is that he wants to get into my pants," Kagome retorted, "he had made that clear plenty of times. He's probably forcing me to go with him because he wants to see me in some 'sexy' dress. He had already remarked that I have to dress appropriately, which for him means boobs out and short dress," she finished crossing her arms.
"If you say so, Kagome. I never saw Inuyasha ogling so much a woman, even if he wanted to take her to bed. He may seem a bad guy right now, I mean I understand why you could think like that seeing his behaviour. But I assure you this cocky badass guy facade he's giving away is not really him," her best shot back. "You'll see I'm right soon enough. I'm sure he'll make his move soon enough, right now he hasn't probably realized that himself, but he'll come along," she winked.
"He will not," Kagome hissed, "he saw me with Bankotsu this morning, he knows I'm dating someone, and he better not grope me next week!" she added thinking about the last thing.
Sango waved her off, "Let the poor boy have a chance, he's not so bad when you get to know him and until now you're the only assistant he's has ever been nice to."
"If you call that nice," Kagome snorted, "whose side are you one, anyway? Weren't you the one who pushed me towards Bankotsu? Now you're insisting I'd give the lecher a chance? Well, I figured that since you're married to one, for you it must be the normality," Sango slapped her arm playfully, "Geez, make up your mind for once."
"I'm just saying that if things shouldn't go well with Bankotsu you'll have someone to comfort you," she grinned, "I want you to live your life a bit, Kagome-chan and for you to los-"
"Don't say that again!" Kagome shouted covering her mouth with a hand. And luckily she did it, because at that precise moment Inuyasha came through the door, looking at them as they had grown a second head.
"Are you distracting my secretary, Sango? She already has a lot to work to do, I wouldn't want her to stay overtime," Inuyasha smirked.
"Oh, shut up, Inuyasha! We all know that you assign her some much work so you have more time to spend with her and admire her wondrous body," Sango taunted him, using the exact words he had used once with Miroku.
He broke out in a sweat and made to reach her, but she dodged him and hastily left, the sound of her laughter echoing in the room. Kagome glared at the space that was occupied by her just a few seconds earlier.
Inuyasha came near her and hand her out some take-away, "Go back to work, Kagome," he smirked before heading towards his office and closing the door behind him.
"He brought me lunch, why he brought me lunch?"
That same week, Inuyasha was again at dinner by his parents with Sesshomaru and Rin. They were quietly discussing work and eating some cake when Rin asked Izayoi a question.
"Mom, didn't you tell us a couple of weeks ago that the girl who lives at the shrine was coming to dinner?"
"Oh, yeah, Ichiro told me they'll come next Friday," she clapped her hands excitedly. "You all must come, is that clear?" Izayoi asked looking sternly at her youngest son.
"Yeah, yeah, I won't miss it," Inuyasha complied.
"Why should you, little brother? After all, you'd use every good occasion to spend time with Miss Higurashi," Sesshomaru mocked.
"We didn't even know is the same person!" Inuyasha spat back, "besides..." he continued while composing himself, "I don't know what you're talking about."
"Oh, I think you do," Sesshomaru smirked and then addressed his father, "guess who is Inuyasha bringing to the party next Wednesday."
Inuyasha stopped eating his cake and suddenly focused on the interesting pattern of his napkin when everyone's eyes turned to him.
"Oh, I forgot you weren't coming with Kikyo, obviously, otherwise I'd have suggested to you some nice girl!" Izayoi cried.
Toga, Sesshomaru and Inuyasha all shuddered inwardly at the thought.
"Who is he bringing, son?" Toga asked his eldest since it was clear that Inuyasha wasn't answering.
"A little bird told me he invited Miss Higurashi," he replied.
"Damn Sango, I am sure she's the one who spilt the beans."
Rin and Izayoi both started giggling.
"Inuyasha, that's wonderful! We'll meet your assistant before the dinner this way, so we'll find out soon if she is the same girl, I'd totally approve of you two together," his mother squealed.
"Mom, please, I asked her just because I didn't have a date and she was the easiest choice," Inuyasha tried to reason, but none believed him. "Besides, Miroku told me she already has a boyfriend, and I even saw him," he added, internally he groaned at the memory of what they were doing when he met the braided bastard.
"Oh, now that you remind me, little brother," Sesshomaru casually started, "Father, Mother, I think you'd be interested in this rumour spreading around the employees about this boyfriend of hers."
Inuyasha paled, he hoped Sesshomaru wasn't going to tell that otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to shake off his mother. His brother's smirk made him lose all of his hopes.
"You should know that the other day..."
The same night Kagome had been spending some alone time with Bankotsu, they had ordered some take-out and now they were snuggled on the couch trying to decide the next movie to see.
"Say, Kagome, was that guy the other day your boss?" he inquired while he ran his hand across her bare arm.
"Yeah, that was Inuyasha Taisho," she replied distractedly while going through different movies on Netflix. Bankotsu nodded and they stayed in silence for another couple of minutes before he spoke again.
"He gave me some strange vibes, Kagome."
She stopped zapping and looked up at him, "Uh? What do you mean?"
"Don't get me wrong, but he wasn't looking at you like a man should look at her secretary, if you catch my drift," he replied.
Kagome sighed inwardly, Please don't say what I think you're going to say, "Look, Bankotsu, I don't think you should worry about that. I'm a grown-up woman, I can take care of myself."
"I know, I know," he complied, "I'm just worried about you. I don't want you to be sexually harassed or something like that. You should talk with someone if that is the case. Just because he owns the company, it doesn't give him the right to..."
Kagome interrupted him, "Woa, woa, stop there. Don't start treating me like some kind of victim. When I say that I can take care of myself, I mean it, ok?" she told him sternly sitting down and facing him. "He's an asshole, I know, he likes to irk me and that's probably the reason why the other day said those things in front of you. But he does that with everyone and I already talked with him about that. There's no reason for you to worry, really," she reassured him hoping he would drop the subject soon.
"If you say so," Bankotsu replied, not at all convinced. "I'd be more relaxed if you avoided any personal contact with him, anyway."
Kagome stiffened, "Come again? You're telling me what to do now? Should I remind you that I am his personal assistant? How should I avoid that contact according to you? Should I quit my job so that you can be more relaxed?"
"Ehi, now, don't get mad, Kagome-chan. I was just saying that since we're dating and stuff I wouldn't like some other guy to touch you."
Here we go, just what I feared, the jealous boyfriend act and he's not even my boyfriend technically.
"Well, it seems you'll need to make do with the way the things are now since next week I'll go to a company's party as his date," Kagome informed him defiantly.
"You what? Are you serious? You're going as his date? Do you see? He surely doesn't think of you as a simple assistant!"
"Oh, for God's sake! Don't even go there, don't start," she replied, "I'm not saying that I'm going to have sex with him. It's a company party, there will a lot of people, Sango and Miroku are coming too, do you really think he will try something?" she snorted.
"I know these kinds of guys, Kagome, I am a guy myself and I know how they think. You're a beautiful girl, he thinks he has the upperhand on you," he tried to say. "You should be wary of him, not going out with him. You should really reconsider going to the party with him, work or not work," he reached for her arm but she dodged his hand and got up.
"Again... Are you telling me what to do?" she asked in a dangerous tone.
"No, of course not. I was merely thinking about your possibilities and what it's better for you."
She laughed at that, "Possibilities? What's better for me? What do you know of that? We have been dating for two weeks and you suddenly know what's better for me? Do you think I can't know for myself? I've been taking care of my whole family alone in the last three years, what made you think that just because we are dating you have the right to contest my decisions?"
"Kagome... I think you're exaggerating, you know," Bankotsu tried to say.
"No, let me tell you what I think, Bankotsu. I think that jealousy is something that does not suit you. Now, if you'll excuse me," she said while grabbing jacket and purse, "I am going back home. You don't have to give me a ride, I can take care of that too."
A/N: So now Inuyasha is jealous but he doesn't understand why, Bankotsu is jealous of Inuyasha and Kagome is angry with both of them. Especially with the latter because she likes her independence and doesn't like others to tell her what she should do since she had been caring for herself alone since her mother got ill.
I didn't want Bankotsu to come out as an asshole, really, I just know that sometimes jealousy can have the better of you.
Next chapter we have the party. Brace yourself!
